The Insects call this island paradise their 'Journey to Heaven'. It is an island laden heavily with lushes of plains, fields, and murky forests to roam freely. Visible light is dim within the inner parts of the forests, or the bottoms of the plains, though a dim light reflects from the inner most part where the forests open to a small clearing. This holy place filled with ancient greek and roman ruins within the forest is where Sasagicha resides on the weekdays, as he plays in the fields on the weekends. It is here he rests constantly until he is needed. The other insects tend to bring him food, not out of fear due to his gigantic horn, but out of undying respect and gratitude.

-----This...was beautiful. All around was foliage, green foliage, lush trees and greenery as far as the eye could see. This...this was the insect summoning lands? It was surprising, to say the least, bt then again...where else would bug simply be? Forests were the breeding grounds for such creatures, after all. Taking a deep breath as he fully materialized, Jack placed his cane against the spongy surface of the ground and took a step forward. This...this was his first step. Somehow he knew, beyond a doubt, that this place was the first step towards him regaining his Truth. [Travel Up the Stairs of Heaven :: 1/10]
-----Jack made his way up the first step of the long steps above, leading to the tallest part of this particular summoning land. It was still beautiful, and smelled of growing things! It was...peaceful. It was extravagant, and helped focus his mind. [Travel Up the Stairs of Heaven :: 2/10]
-----Each step brought him closer to the top, and closer to his first goal. He had learned from the scroll that learning the powers of a Sage required a focus, a centering of self. To one such as he, who had lost his balance, this might well restore what he sought. His eyes wandered to the many different bugs around him, the beetles, and even the butterflies. [Travel Up the Stairs of Heaven :: 3/10]
-----Especially that butterfly, the giant one that flew by him. It was enormous, and her call was...magnificent. Something told him he shouldn't be aware of the beauty in her movements, nor the sounds she made as she flew, yet...it was clear to him. The sounds resonated within his heart and soul, and he knew that she, likely, would be his first true friend among the insects here. [Travel Up the Stairs of Heaven :: 4/10]
-----And then his eyes swiveled to the right, and caught sight of magnificently large creatures that looked like spiders. Or rather, a mix of spider and...crustacean? Either way, the creature was busily devouring a meal, which Jack found fascinating until he realized it might well be a human. [Travel Up the Stairs of Heaven :: 5/10]
-----Still, that did not stop him trying to get access to the boss here. The Sagehood was what he desired, and he would not leave till he got it. And so when he moved up another set of stairs he considered how to speak to the boss summoning here. [Travel Up the Stairs of Heaven :: 6/10]
-----As he came closer to the apex of this stairway, the "Heaven" he had heard so much about, Jack considered Shadow. What would the younger male be thinking now? The pain had been terrible after the assault on his person from Shadow's words, but he had to admit they were well deserved. [Travel Up the Stairs of Heaven :: 7/10]
-----But was it something that he could come back from? Considering this as he walked up from the next flight, Jack wondered if truly he could return to Kirigakure. It was terrible that he had been required to leave at all, but there really hadn't been much of a choice at the time. [Travel Up the Stairs of Heaven :: 8/10]
-----He was nearing the top, and he could finally see a break in the greenery. It was a clearing, the final step. Taking a deep breath, Jack hefted his cane in hand and moved forward, ready for war. [Travel Up the Stairs of Heaven :: 9/10]
-----Reaching the top was almost worth a grand feast in Jack's opinion. It simply was a long, arduous walk, and arriving here was huge. Looking about, that's when he realized that above him, further on, was an enormous beetle that was nearly as large as the Nibi. Normally this would have gave him a hint of caution, yet after everything...no. He didn't. "Greetings, Sasagicha." And with that he bowed low, and yet kept his eyes upon the beast, knowing the thing could crush him if it desired. [Travel Up the Stairs of Heaven :: 10/10 → Complete]

"I Must Drag Truth Kicking and Screaming into the Light"
A low rumble of what appeared to be wind blew by Jack Harren Snipe, the goth man dressed in a somewhat 1800's look. It was slow at first as Sasagicha breathed in and out to gain strength. Finally lifting himself up, the columns around him shook, their dust rolling off in droves. Giant eyes peered down at the little man before the horn lowered to take aim at him. "What does a shinobi want with us," the slow rumble felt like it came from inside Jack's body, though that was only due to the deep baritones riding along with the wind. As a response from nearby, the local field's insect population quieted instantly. "Make your answer short, or prepare to leave."

-----Earth trembling beneath his feet, Jack stared at the giant as it rumbled out of its slumber. This...was the boss summon? Well, it would seem he had its attention at the very least. Yet before he spoke his perception of time slowed almost to a halt, and his eyes widened ever so slightly. For beside the giant beetle stood his other self, and in its hand was Shadow's head. His eyes promised death should Jack continue. This...this was not good. This was not real! Taking a deep breath, Jack forced his other self to return to his mind, and his eyes, golden and obscene, looked to the giant beetles' whose name sounded like phlegm in the throat. "Sasagicha, King of Insects, I come before you to request a pact. I am Jack Harren Snipe, broken soul of Kirigakure, and I believe here I will find the peace of mind and soul I seek. I ask you, will you forge a pact with me, that I might seek the Truth of existence with your help?" Just in case, however, Jack kept his hands to his sides, yet ready should the king attack.

An even number for a Jounin was not a good sign. This luck manifested itself as a snap to Sasagicha's mood. Thrusting his lowered horn forward, the leader took aim at Jack's torso, just under his purple bow. Whether he connected or not, the giant boss summon replied in his windy way, "Why should I sign a contract with a broken man who has nothing to offer me?" Perhaps it was Jack's lengthy vocal answer that had rolled the even dice, angering him. Behind Sasagicha, and between the various stone columns, Buzachi, Mortior, Befreety, and Liminit fluttered about, having arrived due to their master's awakening and the sudden silence. No one had ever dared to form a pact with the Insects, a fact that well withstood the ages of time. Would Jack try once more with his own luck, or be reduced to an attempt at subduing the mighty Insect summonings?

-----This was what he had expected. As the first of the humans to dare try and form a pact, the King was obviously not okay with his existence. And so Jack reacted. His eyes turned blood red and he launched himself into the air, his body turning completely black for a moment as two large insect-like wings burst from his back. He buzzed into the air, dodging the much larger creature, and once again he tried his tact. "For I am the most akin to you, and one more likely to earn his place! I desire balance, order, to be one with the creatures I am most like!" His words echoed, an unwelcome effect of the dark chakra of his other half trying to gain control. Zipping to the side, his words continued. "I will prove myself to you, and use your power to bring justice and Truth to this world! I will do whatever it takes!" His words were filled with passion, the first time in his memory he ever had been. But he wanted this, he needed this, and if Sasagicha would not accept reason, and feel his need, then he would force submission instead of partnership.

"I Must Drag Truth Kicking and Screaming into the Light"
What God had Jack pissed off enough to ruin his luck so much? Now it did not matter, as Jack took flight, Befreety took to concentration, her green illumination fluttering just behind a stone wall. "Genjutsu user, Sakkakugan, 970 chakra, 575 Stamina, Boss." Beside her, Mortior leapt up to in front of her, on top of the wall, to protect the delicate butterfly. Queen Buzachi flew low to Sasagicha's legs, slapping a Choukeijuugan no Jutsu on to her boss before flying off to his left.
In front of the wall, Liminit squeeked in his small voice as he flew off to the right side, still behind Sasagicha but in full view of Jack. Flapping his wings as hard as he could, a brilliant light flickered across the area, blinding all within view. The forest around them suddenly became chaotic as insects of all kinds chirped and whizzed about uncontrollably, unable to see anything as they had been looking on when Liminit drew attention to himself.
In the center of the field, Sasagicha felt his weight lessen, and heard his subordinate relay her information. Focusing his chakra, gathering his mind, and hardening his skin, Sasagicha tempered his body into a force greater than any mere metal. A torrent of chakra and energy fluctuated around him, disturbing the atmosphere. This constantly flowing power allows Sasagicha to wield his horn with utter mastery and improved strength. Even enemy blades and projectiles can be caught or deflected with the brunt of the palm. In addition to this, his mind cannot be fooled by incoming genjutsu or other such mediums that temper with the brain ( existing genjutsu are still effective, though ). Quickly raising his now lightened horn high, chakra flared out along its entire length, producing a massive wall hanging in the air, stretching out along a great length of the clearing. Swinging it down like a huge fan, he would attempt to squash a potentially blinded Jack in one go. Out further into the forest, leaves would be blown clear off from the large trees that held them, and insects would be sent flying away from the battle due to the fan.

The practitioner's body becomes surrounded by a torrent of chakra, causing muscles to strain and energy to fluctuate. This constantly flowing power allows the practitioner to wield their weapon with utter mastery and improved strength. Even enemy blades and projectiles can be caught or deflected with the brunt of the palm. In addition to this, the mind cannot be fooled by incoming genjutsu or other such mediums that temper with the brain ( existing genjutsu are still effective, though ). This technique does not last incredibly long, and is ridiculously strenuous, proving that it is meant to end a fight rather than start one. Duration: 5 posts. • Drains [60] chakra at the start of each active post.

-----Jack looked at the King, his expression neutral, guarded, and somewhat...pittying. "Violence is the primary answer, I see." That's when the light flashed into his eyes, and though he closed them quickly he was blinded, and he knew it. Still, this did not leave him defenseless. Jack was never truly that, no matter the situation. No, he brought his flute to his mouth, and spoke one final bit before he would play his technique. "I had hoped you would speak instead of attack. I suppose I overestimated your faculties." And with that, he played his notes. The technique was a simple one, but he dissolved, and his voice carried over on the wind. "In two days, then."

-----It seemed that this would be his final attempt at a peaceful negotiation. If he failed, he would strike hard, and fast, and yet be prepared to flee. As Jack's cane struck the bottom of the steps leading upwards, his expression flickered, seeming to gain a full other face for just a moment in the shape and consistancy of a shadow. At the same time, he poured his chakra into a jutsu, his most powerful, that allowed him to transform. This he cast now, with enough chakra in it, so that later when he shifted again it wouldn't be another activation, but the original one. The only modification he put to his current self was three eyelids, the first two designed to filter out bright lights and protecting his inner eyes. Other than that, he was normal...for now. [Travel Up the Stairs of Heaven :: 1/2]
-----Raising his flute to his lips, he created another illusion, this one displacing him five feet to his right. Why? Because it would be more difficult to aim for him in truth. But after this, he teleported to the top, his ashes falling from the sky to land before Sasagicha. The instant he formed, Jack's golden eyes moved to the giant's, his mind calculating all he knew and learned of Hercules beetles. Should this become necessary, he would overwhelm everyone, and would force a compromise. His expression was neutral, but his words were not. "Sasagicha. I return, King of Insects, for the pact. I desire your help, to bring Truth to the world, to show the worth of Insects in a world without respect to your kind. Will you allow me to do so, without the need for confrontation?" [Travel Up the Stairs of Heaven :: 2/2 → Complete]
-----Jack's eyes traveled to Sasagicha, and to the others. These would be his family, his newest friends, if this worked. And oddly enough, he found this to be beautiful, found this to be perfect, and worth it. In the end, he felt that this was the greatest moment of his life, his best choice.

It looked like Jack's training in rolling dice elsewhere paid off, enlightening Sasagicha and the others. They had been waiting for his eventual return, in a near stasis with their own jutsu, but whatever Jack had managed to do seemed to calm them. "Welcome to the Island of the Insects," a booming voice blew through the field. "You've passed the test, it seems."

-----Jack's eyes widened slightly at the words of Sasagicha, and overwhelming relief flowed through him, more than perhaps he was used to, for he fell to his knees and sighed. Inside, the darkness of his other half growled in frustration, knowing that this training, more than any other, might well fix the seals Jack had placed on it years ago. While this was a possibility, it was something Jack hadn't for the moment thought about, for his major concern was to earn the trust and love of the creatures he had just bound his life to. He watched as the littlest of bugs, what looked like hundreds of praying mantises but on a smaller scale, brought forth a massive scroll (by his standards), carrying it upon their collective arms. At first the jounin wasn't sure what to do, yet his memory finally kicked in from the scroll he had read on the way here. It spoke of a seal, written in blood, that bound the summoner and the summonings forever. Reverant at this opportunity, the emaciated boy took the scroll from them, finding it surprisingly light, and waited for them to move before unrolling it. And unrolling it took several minutes, as Jack was forced to realize that he was the first summoner to ever form a pact with these creatures. It seemed he had chosen wisely. Upon reaching the base of the scroll, where the first signer's name would be, Jack reached into an inner pocket where he held a single Kunai, one he had, to date, never used. This seemed an opportune, and somehow perfect, time to use it. Nicking his fingertip on his left hand, using only his index finger, Jack replaced the blade in its hidden location and deftly wrote his name there. Yet as he signed it, he felt slightly...wrong. For the first time he did not clearly recognize his name as his own, and felt that something, internally, was not at right. Yet this was his name, the only name Jack knew! Dismissing it, he finished with a flourish, and waited for it to dry before rerolling the scroll. Eyes raised and searching, the shinobi looked from one to the other of the summon animals about him, knowing that these were now a part of his family. Standing slowly, utilizing his cane for extra support, Jack took a deep, thoughtful breath before speaking. "My name is Jack Harren Snipe. Until recently, I have served faithfully my home village of Kirigakure no Sato. I serve faithfully to my Truth, the Truth of the universe and all things. My Truth is to drag the Truth of others, kicking and screaming, into the light, to show others who they truly are, either the savior, or the beast." Hand to his chest, above his head, Jack turned slowly to meet the eyes of every insectoid, looking into their eyes and feeling them out. "Yet recently I made a mistake. To defeat an enemy, to take them alive, I reached into the souls of two opponents and rewrote their Truth, changed it forever. This is a wrong not only to my own person beliefs but to Creation itself. I thought I could fight it, ignore it, justify it with hollow reasonings. I believed that with every breath taken in defense of my home, of my family, it would wash the sin from my hands! Yet I learned..." Eyes turned down, a shuddering breath taken, Jack continued in a voice that was low, and filled with sorrow. "I learned that such sins can never be forgiven. I was forced to slay one of those who had changed, and knew that the other had attempted murder on fellow shinobi. My Truth broke, fractured, and my soul was split in twain. My Sin had splintered my core, my soul, and my mind. Even now my darker self wishes to inflict pain and horrors upon others, to tear their minds asunder, to ravish their Truths and break their existence forever! For this reason I have come to you, forsaken my friends, my...family..." Here his mind returned to Shadow, armless and likely afraid for his future, and his throat caught. Pain, agony...horror at what he had done, fear that he had lost the only family he had ever known...for a moment it threatened to overwhelm him, and yet he swallowed with a dry throat, pushed back the tears that were flowing and ignored those already running down his cheeks. His golden eyes turned to Sasagicha, and his stance became more certain. "I come here, to learn your arts not just for myself, or for your glory. I come to reforge the seals I placed upon my soul years ago, to make right the wrongs I would have committed. I come here, to make myself whole, so that with your help I might bring Truth to this world in a right, and just, way."
-----When the giant creature's eyes continued to stare, when all insects in all of the summoning lands fell still, he knew it was time to make his request. "And for that, I need your help, to learn the arts of a Sage."
-----At first he believed there would be no response, for though he was not a contractor of these insects it did not immediately bestow upon him the right to demand such training, such a gift. And yet he almost wept for joy, for relief, when the creature that looked like a great butterfly slowly moved closer, her eye stalks focused upon him. "We will teach you. Please, come with me, as Sasagicha needs to slumber. My name is Befreety. Here, come to my back, little one, and I shall take you to our elders."
-----Jack, taking but a moment to wipe his eyes upon his sleeve, nodded with a small smile and moved to do as instructed. Stepping onto her back...it felt weird. He knew that insects were furry, yet this...it was just the oddest sensation. Moving further up onto her back, Jack gently, yet firmly, placed his hands upon her back and gripped several of those furry fibers for purchase. It was only then that she took off. The trip was a short one, for it involved going even further up the mountain, which, until they passed the cloud layer, Jack had assumed ended there. Yet when his eyes beheld the top he knew he had found the Sages of this land, the twin Mantises described in the lost scroll he had read. When Befreety circled closer, and lower, Jack knew that his course was to jump, yet he would not leave without a proper goodbye. Bringing his face closer to her back, he gently pressed his lips to her smooth carapace with a smile. "Thank you, Befreety, for the ride." She gave no response, but then, what did one say to a human who showed more reverence than was normally associated with a summoner and his or her summonings? Without another thought Jack let go, and he felt his world turn upside down as his mount turned and let him fall upside down. Why? It was easier. Landed with a rather loud thud, Jack tumbled and came up dusty, but relatively unharmed, not ten feet from a large pool of what looked like oil, with two small mantises to either side. Both looked annoyed at him for being there, but he was not about to annoy them further. When flying, he had heard voices below, and had assumed they were bickering, and apparently some human dropping into their spat was not what either had desired. Jack's eyes turned to either of them, and slowly he sunk to a knee, bowing with one hand across his chest to his shoulder while the other held his cane erect, a posture of respect. "Greetings, great Sages of the Insect World. I am-"
-----"Yes, yes, we know who you are! We could hear your bitching from up here, little corpse! You have come here to learn our ways. What makes you think we want to teach you?" This one appeared on the left, and sounded masculine. Hercules?
-----Jack did not raise his head from its bowed position. "You may not, and you may ask or demand me to leave as you desire. It is your choice, after all." Here he reached into a side pocket of his vest and withdrew a pouch, tossing it to the ground. "I know that a donation must be given for the right to use your oil, and your stick. If you accept me, I would ask that these donations be accepted and their use given unto me."
-----The other mantis clicked her jaws before responding to the side to her husband. "He's a posh one, isn't he? And polite. Why not give in?" With a distinctly feminine voice, Jack was forced to accept that this one was Tethys, the wife of the pairing. He suspected it would be she who would give him the rather polite advice, while her husband would be the brutal one. Likely she would be beating him from time to time with that stick with enthusiasm.
-----Once more Hercules spoke, but only after much thought. "Fine. We shall teach you. Come, bathe in our oils, and we shall see how this goes." And with that he flicked one of his mandibles, ordering several small roaches to skitter out and take away the bag of tribute.
-----Jack's eyes turned to the oil. It would seem that it was now, or never. Taking a deep breath, Jack considered what would happen if he failed, even as he rose. Petrification, death...were such things preferable to life, to a harder method of training? That answer was not within his grasp, eluding his thoughts, which told him that it was likely his other half's meanderings. Taking a step to the edge of the pool, Jack let his cane rest upon the ground, and slowly he began to undress. His hat, his clothes,,,everything would come off, revealing just how thin, how unhealthy Jack really did appear, without an ounce of fat or muscle to spare. His skin was tight across his body, so pale as to almost be a corpse himself, yet with several scars lightly drawn across his body from old fights. They were nothing, simply mistakes due to far too much trust placed in what should have been allies during missions. Each marked another rung on the ladder that formed his short, yet sordid past. At last he was nearly naked, with only a pair of tight undershorts remaining, hilariously colored a purple almost dark enough to be black. One more breath taken, and Jack stepped into the pool, moving until his hips were enveloped before cupping the oil in his palms. It felt...odd, with an energy in every drop, almost like small bits of electricity sparking all over him. It filled him with a sense of wonder, of rightness, and without another thought he brought it to his face.

-----Feelings of power, of oneness, flowed through Jack the instant the oil touched his face, his lips. Eyes closed, he felt the energy flowing through him, yet another moment passed before he realized the energy was...bad. It was flowing through him too fast, too strongly, turning his essence into a oneness with nature that was too deadly. Unable to speak, to move, he stood frozen in place, life flashing before his eyes, when suddenly a resounding crack filled the clearing, and Jack felt himself fall to the ground, outside of the pool of oil. There he remained, thinking, feeling every part of him and wondering what he had suffered as permanent damage, if anything. Every finger was moved, every toe, his arms and legs, and finally his chest and head. Everything remained normal, which told him immediately what had happened: he had been struck by the beating stick of the insects. Eyelids opening slightly, his eyes turned to one of the mantises, Hercules he presumed, and he nodded his thanks. Without that hasty movement, Jack would have been lost.
-----From what he had read in the scriptures and treatises it seemed he had failed with utilizing the sage oil to try and shorten his training. Only the beating staff of the sages here had stopped him from becoming stone, and only barely. Taking a deep breath, Jack looked towards the pool of oil, watching the rhythmic lapping of the liquid against the sandy shores of it's basin. No, he could try again, but he knew doing so would simply waste his time should he fail again. Instead, sitting up and adjusting to a more comfortable posture, Jack did something that the other half of him would never have anticipated: he entered the vaults of his mind, to try and find the peace within. [Sage Training 01 // 10]
-----The faint crowing of carrion eaters echoed in the cold, empty air of the derelict buildings and establishments of the carnival, the clear night sky giving an unobstructed view of the coasters and booths that filled the mindspace. Jack stood still midst the silence, his clothes back upon his form, but his eyes once more the inverted selves they had always been. Or had been, until his other self had broken free. It had been many years since he had come here, too many in fact. Already the shops and stations were showing a bit of misuse, or rather, uselessness that should never have appeared there. Though nothing visible existed within those stalls, should he have stepped up he would have been forced to play a game, a game of his own mind and soul, and winning would have allowed a glimpse into a memory of his past. Loss meant an expulsion from his mind and dark whispers, maniacal laughter in the night and in his dreams. Long were those nights, and often he woke to bruises and scratches on his flesh with no memory of how they had gotten there. Looking past one such stall, he looked towards the distance, where a massive pavilion tent lay, and with a tap of his cane he moved towards it, no trace of haste in his step. [Sage Training 02 // 10]
-----The air here was normally quite moderate, neither cold or hot, with everything in the environment a clear medium in all things. It reflected his soul, his neutrality, the balance of the light and dark within him. Yet now, looking at every detail, he could see it was no longer the case. Shadows loomed darker in corners where light once shown, and in other places life, greenery, grew where once sparse vegetation fought for claim. His balance was broken, this Jack already knew, yet it was the grand changes, whole buildings no longer in alignment, attractions he had spent a decade riding suddenly misshapen or broken entirely. Such views rended Jack's heart, knowing it was yet another sign of just how disjointed he had become. Could the power of the Sage truly mend this broken soul? For a moment a voice came from the distance, a chuckle, the light skritch of pen meeting paper. Shadow. He knew it without turning, without needing to look at the tea cups that made up this attraction. Shadow's scent, his essence, was as much a part of him as his own, and at all times Jack could feel him here. Short though their time had been, he had felt normal around Shadow, and to know that now they were so far apart...Breath catching in his throat caught Jack out of his haze, and he moved on, ignoring the single tear that stubbornly wove its way down his face. -----FThe Mindspace had been made shortly after his consciousnesses had developed into full-scale sentience. In that time it had grown from a small, four person tent that sported but a single ring leader's mount in the center into a monstrous pavilion tent within which the entirety of Kirigakure no Sato could have been housed. Or rather, it always looked that way from the outside. Knowing full well its contents, Jack felt no fear looking into the darkness that lay within its depths. Yet his feet stubbornly remained still every time he considered entering. While his head was set on entering, to do one final battle with the great evil within his soul, his heart was sundered apart with doubts. The road here had not been an easy one, with the single tear shed by the meeting with his memories of Shadow being but the first of many agonizing encounters along his path. At one point he had come face to face with a memory, too vague for definition, save for a pair of pale blue eyes that looked at him with emptiness and loss. Without speaking, without breathing, he had known that to interact with them would have cast him into the endless abyss of his twisted soul, and thus he had moved on without a single look back. The memory of it was fresh, for it awoke anew the separation he had felt. Turning his inverted eyes to the side, Jack's body followed suit, and he slowly made his way around the massive tent. [Sage Training 04 // 10]
-----The silent echoes of the carnival resonated within his ears, despite the lack of sources. Here Jack's mind was not unlike a bee's hive, filled with an innumerable amount of off-shooting branches that led to other parts of his mind, his memories, and his soul. Without truly paying attention, Jack knew he was passing already the same entrance he had left behind but moments ago, yet what was time in a mindspace? Time was all a matter of perspective, though many assumed it linear in nature, and to Jack's mind he had only entered several hours before while the true Jack had only taken a handful of breaths. It was then that he stopped walking, looking instead to the dark tent flap that stood before him. He had to enter, no matter the case, so why wait? Why hold off the confrontation any longer than necessary? Thinking back to those eyes, those pale, pain-filled eyes, Jack knew he had to do this, had to move in. Not only for himself, for the sake of his sanity and soul, but for the sake of the only family he had. [Sage Training 05 // 10]
-----The tapping of a cane filled the shadowed hollow within the pavilion. Each step was methodical, counted and measured to perfection, each step causing a single second of this world's time to pass. Like a miniature clockwork Jack made his way in, and as he did so he spoke, eyes straight ahead. "I remember the day we first met, Doushi. It was on the day of my first Testing, when I took that little child into the hall of mirrors beneath the falls." Words did not echo here, did not go further at all in the utter darkness, and yet somewhere in this place he knew his other half waited. Even as he thought this, his eyes began to pick out the rough shape of his destination. "He was terrified, with distorted reflections at every turn mocking his sanity. I knew not then how much damage a Test could do, merely that I had to fulfill my purpose. Yet I felt his pain, his terror, and wanted to help him." Another step, another dull echo. "Free him." It was then that a single light pierced the gloom, a small silver candle atop which sat a ghostly blue flame. The His'threth ko Durama, the Nightshade's Hand, was a candle designed to force truth and reflection to those within its light, as well as build walls between dark and light thoughts. Having made it himself, Jack knew well the border of its influence, and the limit to its power. For the moment, a single split down the center was all that marred its surface, the inside twisting and turning as the chains that bound his other self within it fought for their prey. Eyes glued to it, Jack moved closer, and finished speaking. "You would not let me." [Sage Training 06 // 10]
-----The answering voice came from beside the candle, from the mirror that spread far into the sky above and out thirty handspans in either direction, a relic of forgotten eras. A clitter, and a hiss, and suddenly words that were nothing short of nightmare itself answered his unspoken challenge. "Had you listened, you would not be here." It had begun.

-----FThe thing in the darkness moved with a grace that not even Jack could match, for every movement was placed particularly where it was meant to be, found by instinct. This other self, his Doushi, was a hunter, a predator of the mind, seeking to bring an end to another's life through the manipulation of their thoughts, feelings, and emotions. It was not the ending of life in the way others' know of it, however. It was not the shucking of the mortal coil, a bloody severing of one's fate string, no. He wished to decimate the soul, to cause the light to leave one's eyes, their purpose gone and their reason for living stripped from them. It was a travesty, one that he had allowed only once, and it had broken him. Remembering Koko reminded him of that first child of which they'd just spoken, the child who had only escaped when Jack had carried his broken body from the maze to the Mizukage, not knowing what else to do. That memory would normally have sent rage coursing through him, yet there was only calm now. Why was that? [Sage Training 07 // 10]
-----The Doushi remained in hiding, yet his outline was apparent. It stood as Jack did, with the same features, the same clothes and accessories. Yet the colors were all wrong. This last he knew without needing to see, for this creature was his opposite in all things, including exterior appearances. It stalked him, moving side to side, pacing in exact opposite of what Jack himself would have done, had he been moving, awaiting an answer it knew he could not ignore. Finally Jack's lips parted, and his voice issued forth in a near whisper. "Had I listened, that child's Truth would have ended there. Had I listened, I would likely be dead by now." The words rang hollow to his ears, however. Oh, yes, he regretted what had happened, but that was not what the problem was. The words from the opponent were not to bring up what might have been in the past, but what should have been in the present. Once more the eyes of his family passed before him, in the shadows, watching from their namesake to stare him down, challenging his resolve. He could not lie to himself, to those eyes, or to his other half. His Doushi knew him in all things. "Had I listened, I would be alone..." [Sage Training 08 // 10]
-----This is what effected him, this is where his weakness, and strength, lie. Shadowseeker, the family he bore, the one factor in which he became enraged and threw himself into the arms of his Doushi. It was this weakness that tore his soul asunder, for he not only could not live with himself over his actions, but he could not see Shadow's reactions, could not bare to see the shame, the hatred there, imagined or not. Yet this fear led him into worse, led Shadow to hate him despite his attempts to protect the younger boy. He had been cast out, cast from his home, by his own choice, for he could not bare to remain where others would see him for what he really was: a coward. And somehow, some way, running away made this better. Where was the logic, the thoughtfullness Jack had always shown before gone in those moments? Had they fled as he did, avoiding seeing the results of his actions? The pain was intense within his heart at his own words, and it was only then that Jack realized his greatest danger was not from the beast of his mind, but from himself. His own crushing pain drew his Doushi to himself, to his most vulnerable places, and now...now he was hopeless. Victory required overcoming all of this, and how could he, knowing that he had no home to return to, despite Sypher's words? What home was there, with Shadow no longer a part of it? In the darkness, the Doushi snickered, and took a step forward, towards the candle, the crack widening with the movement. "Surrender, Jack. Surrender unto me, and let me free you forever." The world spun, and outside the sounds of twisting metal could be heard as his Mindspace began to fall apart, mirrored by the widening further of the crack in the His'threth ko Durama. [Sage Training 09 // 10]
-----As Jack fell to his knees, as the darkness closed in, a faint ringing came from the outside. It was faint, yet tranquil, and filled with a tinge of promise. At first there was no reaction, and it took him a moment to realize the implications of that reaction: the Doushi had not moved either. Eyes lifting to the hideous figure, it was then that Jack saw something new, something he had not created here, where he was master: a mirror, and within that mirror a set of bells, pure and silver, that rang a pure note. The mirror shimmered, and before him stood Shadow, in all his glory, with an arm made of burning blue light. For a moment the light illuminated the image of his Doushi, yet the next it was once more in shadow, hiding and hissing. Eyes watering, streams of relief flowing through him, Jack fought to stand on wobbly legs as he faced the focus of his damnation, and salvation. The light bled over him, and he felt a calm as he realized that Shadow, wherever he was, stood by him always. Turning, the light burned brighter even as Jack faced his Doushi for the last time, his eyes an intense green that bordered one supernatural. They glimmered like jewels, gaining a million infinite little facets, but this was not the only change. His skin somehow attained a sheen that took in the light, bathed in it, and reflected it into a sort of aura about his frame, varying shades of blue, green and silver. Fingers lengthening another inch, gaining another knuckle, Jack held out his arms to his sides, palms splayed as if in welcome, as thin, near-invisible strands grew from his clothes, his back, and his shoulders, near-invisible antennae that only a Sharingan would see effectively. Calm came over him, certainty, and oddly...a purpose. He knew what had to be done. His Doushi, now a mere shadow in the vague shape of Jack, screamed in rage before turning to flee. Yet instead of an exit he would find only a tall, wide silver gate that barred his path. He turned, and spoke, but the words did not reach Jack, not anymore. With a calm voice, Jack spoke the words he needed. "We were once twain, Doushi, yet apart we will falter. Sealing you does nothing but bide your time, allows our self to fracture. No more can this be done, little twin. No more. I welcome you home, as another has welcomed me, so that we may be as one again." There was a burst of light, a white light with the tinge of blue from the mirror, and all faded away. [Sage Training 10 // 10 ►►► Complete]
-----Jack's eyes opened, his expression neutral, yet with a small, peaceful smile. Turning to look about him, he realized that all of his newfound friends, the summonings of this land, were arranged around him, as if awaiting his return. They were silently watching him, perhaps having felt the struggle he had gone through through their ultra sensitive perceptions. Looking them over, his smirk became a full blown smile, and he nodded. "Your faith in me was not misplaced. I have returned, whole for the first time in my life." Though, he could not admit one fact, not even to himself, for now. He would wait. Looking to the butterfly known as Befreety, Jack stood and began retrieving his clothes. "I have a feeling that I am needed back at my home. Will you take me?" His eyes, now that bright emerald green, filled with odd facets if looked at too closely, showed to her that he was safely the man they had chosen to follow. It was time.
-----First things first, however: he had to learn some techniques, and fast, but that could be accomplished on the way back to his village if he was right. Without further ado, he stepped onto Befreety's back, assumed a comfortable position laying down, and closed his eyes as they took off towards his new destination, a firm power and future within his grasp at last.
