Hahalua, for the first time so far away from the ocean in such a long time, couldn't resist the temptation to continue to look behind her. It had been such a constant comfort to her loneliness that it was like losing a best friend. Of course, by leaving it she was gaining so much more than the waves in her ears or the salt on her fetlocks. She was getting part of her life back. It took everything in her not to gallop the whole way there. She could do it for a few hours, she was sure, if she tried. But that would be to risk tiring herself out by the time she got to the village. The mare wasn't one for vanity, however after so many years she didn't want to show up drenched in sweat, with her mane so windblown it was almost a giant mat. No, that wouldn't do. Besides, if they happened to get into trouble along the way she wouldn't be able to fight it off as easily if she gave into her filly fancies of running. No, she would just have to wait and restrain herself.

After a few moments, she couldn't resist one question popping out of her mouth as she shifted her gaze to the hawk.

"How much farther?"

Thought I'd take it upon myself to start the next one. If you don't mind. I wanted to go to the village, but I wasn't sure what else you might have wanted to do so left it open. Sorry about that, summer and autumn took away my motivation to write.
