Ainsley was, he noticed, spending more and more time in the Malro in recent months. His normally pale yellow skin was tanned a bit darker, and his blonde hair was often dusty from his time in the desert. Quan opted not to comment on this, perhaps, but Ainsley had brought it up that morning before he ventured once more to Eowyn. It seemed his mentor had no qualms about this since it freed him from having to come up with excuses to go traveling on his own. And so today, or rather just that afternoon, Ainsley was once again trekking through the desert with his axe at the ready and his pack stuffed with medicine and food and a cloak for the nighttime. He had yet to actually spend a night in the Malro, though.
His thoughts were calm, oddly enough, as no Kiandri had showed itself as of yet. The teen was expecting one to show up at some point, but after some hours of walking and no sign of any dragon, Ainsley had started to relax just a bit. Which was probably a mistake.
As he caught sight of a familiar rock formation just ahead, he started to hurry over so he could have his lunch. It wasn't until he was close enough did he realize that there was something else there; taking up over half of the shaded area and snoring ever so loudly was a dragon, though it was a dragon he'd never come across before. Judging by its color Ainsley guessed that it must have been a Firani dragon, so he was thankful that it was asleep instead of looking for food or something. The Orderite made his way quietly to the top of the boulder just above the dragon's head and, after pulling out his axe, he jumped.
The dragon's eyes opened just soon enough that it was able to move out of the way of his downward swing, and after landing on his feet rather uncomfortably Ainsley quickly dodged an oncoming swipe from a giant, red claw and jumped up this time, swinging and making contact with the dragon's throat. The beast rolled onto its side then, quite obviously in pain, and Ainsley, with another big swing, ended things quickly.
He picked up the red orb that was now resting where the large dragon had been and slipped it into his pack, smiling.

Of course, had he looked more carefully, he would have noticed that he had more company.
But he didn't, so Ainsley had set up a little fire and started to cook the food that he'd packed. Perhaps it was the smell that had drawn its attention, but before he could even get a bite of his lunch another Firani showed up, snarling at him. The Orderite reacted as any battler would, and he reached for his axe, barely managing to dodge the burst of flames that had come from the dragon's mouth. His little fire and the food that was cooking over it were burnt to ashes, and even Ainsley could still feel the heat from that attack all over the left side of his body.
The dragon didn't hesitate to attack again, sending Ainsley running and rolling and dodging as he thought of a way to get closer. It wasn't long before his clothes were matted to his skin with sweat, the heat from the Firani's flames hotter than any day he'd ever spent in the Malro. He was glad that the first one he'd run into earlier had been asleep, else he'd probably already be burnt to a crisp. The Orderite weaved his way through the rocks, feeling the intense heat of the Firani's attacks right on his heels. He tried to lose the beast, but it seemed that wherever he wound up the dragon was ready and waiting. It was likely because the dragon could fly, but that didn't make it any less annoying. He managed to get away or dodge just in time, by sheer luck almost every single time mind you, but he could only keep running for so long.
Left with no other choice, Ainsley hurried out of the rock formation and started across the Malro once again, hoping the dragon wouldn't give chase.

It was a stupid sort of hope that was dashed to pieces though, as he heard the massive creature take flight just behind him and watched as its shadow overtook him. The Firani landed right in front of him with a fierce look in its eyes. It was probably something that all dragons had in common, Ainsley made a side thought as the creature let out another burst of flames which the blonde managed to barely dodge. He didn't get away completely unscathed his time, as his pack managed to catch a bit of the attack and caught fire as he kept on running.
"Seriously!?" the Orderite muttered as he dropped and rolled, and used some of his clothes to put out the fire. It was out soon enough, though the dragon didn't seem to care much for the teen's problems since it kept on coming. It was probably something of a sight, watching as an Orderite tried to outrun a giant dragon that could easily fly and catch up without any problems. Ainsley felt like he was going in circles in the desert, completely out of options as he continued to run for his life. The Firani was no worse for wear as it continued to give chase.
Ainsley felt his legs beginning to completely tire out, and his axe started to feel heavy on his back as he continued to run and dodge attack after attack. At this rate, he thought, it wouldn't be long before the Firani's attack would finally hit its mark. It was like his life was starting to flash before his eyes, so he wasn't really paying any attention to where he was going anymore.
Which is probably why, perhaps due to a misstep, Ainsley felt himself fall into a ditch of some sort and out of the dragon's line of sight. Not that he'd remember much of what happened after he fell though, considering he blacked out as soon as he landed.
