The now fallen angel of the lord, Castiel, finds himself lost in the woods located he knows not where. He struggles to find his way back to Dean only to reach every limit a human has. Cold, hungry and exhausted he recalls that humans need to sleep and settles down to try to do just that only to be interrupted by the arrival of a curious kitsune.
After a brief but no less hostile first encounter, Castiel succumbs to exhaustion and the kitsune watched over him. In the morning the angel, though still cautious, begins to bond with his new companion, Diana. Eventually they strike a bargain: He explains what the 'light show' to Diana and the kitsune escorts him to his friends.
Eventually they find their way out of the woods and discover a road. As they follow it they hear the weak cries of a kitten. Castiel, being more sensitive just after stripping Heaven of its wings, couldn't ignore an innocent creature in distress. He and Diana follow the wounded mewls to an abandoned cabin and find the poor thing trapped under collapsed furniture, wounded.
After rescuing the kitten they return to the road and continue following it. Diana heals their new companion and Castiel refuses to let him go. They come across a kind truck driver who gives them a ride to the nearest gas station where Castiel contacts Dean and arranges a meet.
