It was an ingenious plan, really.

The stalemate of the war had become infuriating for Sentria. Both sides staring at each other from behind their territories and nothing more was driving The Serpant Fang to madness- mostly because he knew they had to. Whoever moved in would get countered and become disadvantaged. At this stage of the war, every fighter counted. Drake knew that if he tried charging into Learania again, they would be ready and he would lose the war.

On Learania's side, they wanted the stalemate to last as long as possible, particularly when it was an essential ceasefire. There was no point in fighting before Rath's group was ready to strike from the rear. It meant less loss of life.

However, Sentria was not keen on the idea of their stalemate lasting any longer. So, a plan was devised by Viscen: a plan that had no possibility of failure, merely varying levels of success. First, the shadow guild would be put to use, since they had been stationed in Pentheus not too long ago. Shortly afterwards, all the Mordachean soldiers were taken out. There was no point in them being in on this, and it was some payback for the betrayal at the Eyris Siege. Next, Viscen would retreat with his men, knowing that Learania would see him and think he was giving up the city because he knew he was no match for them. Even though the ceasefire was beneficial to Learania, it made sense that they might take advantage of Viscen's retreat in order to get the edge on Sentria at last. Even if they didn't pursue and went straight into setting up a base in Pentheus, the plan didn't change. Inside, Tyce was ready and the shadow guild would send Learania's troops into disarray. If part of Learania's army had gone after Viscen, they would have no choice but to retreat and help their allies in Pentheus. And while all this was happening, Drake was leading a force of bandits to the battlefield.

In essence, Learania had no chance but to fall into their trap. That's not to say it didn't matter what they did. It definitely mattered. But, their actions would only strengthen or lessen how much of a disadvantage they were in. Worst case, they went for Viscen, but didn't retreat when their people in Pentheus were in trouble; Drake shows up and overcomes them while their forces are split. Best case, they didn't go for Viscen and focused totally on Pentheus; with more people inside Pentheus, they lessen the damage and cause the shadow guild to retreat quicker and aren't in as much chaos when Drake arrives. What actually happened is a mid-case scenario. They went for Viscen and retreated to help inside Pentheus. Their troops are disorganized and frantic, but they still have a chance to survive against Drake... who has arrived on the scene and is charging towards the disadvantaged Learania.

The Battle on the Border
User Image

There was small patch of grass, the first one seen when coming from Sentria to Learania. Drake stepped forward, crushing the blades of grass beneath his boot, and looked out upon the scene before him. All around him were some familiar faces. Melethia had insisted upon coming with him in the chance of getting her revenge and Legault naturally went where she did. It didn't take much for Jezebel to tag along as well, both for the action and because Melethia was going. Ali was always an asset on the field, so he came as well and that meant Jaren was there, too. Besides them, there were also some bandit leaders who brought the bulk of their groups. All together, it was the strongest force Drake had ever gathered.

From what he could tell, the ceasefire had clearly ended. Pentheus was burning and Sentrian troops were retreating. His first thoughts were not plesant ones. The Serpant Fang grinned as Viscen came up to him. "Viscen, good to see you okay, as always... looks like something's happened... Pentheus seems to be a bit.. out of our control..." He subltly dropped the grinned and lowered his tone. "Mind explaining what's been going on?"

After the explanation, Drake donned the grin once more. "Well, well... I have to say, I'm impressed, kid. Good job. Take a rest. You've earned it. As for the rest of you... looks like our enemy is a bit overwhelmed right now... Get them!"

Immediately, there was a roar from the bandit army as they began to charge forward, sand rapidly turning to grass with every step. It was time they gained some ground. It was time they brought their enemy to their knees.

To say that tensions were high among the Learanians would be an understatement, and Amelia was hardly able to keep still. Clerics were working overtime, tending to the injured and bloody as quickly as they could. A sort of minty chill seemed to hang in the air around where healing magic suffused into innumerable wounds, and the young General couldn't help but shiver as she spoke briefly to one of the Sages within the unit before leaving again.

They had suffered losses, but she could only be grateful that it was less than they could have been dealt, had they been less aggressive in their search for the bombs, or slower to investigate the city overall. Still, their retreat felt like failure, the tinge of metal on her tongue, especially with Sunil's words ringing in her ears. What of them she could understand, at least. There was at least one thing she could do right now, with most everyone gathered to lick their wounds. They had enough scouts stationed that the Sentrians would hopefully not even be able to sneeze without being noticed.

She still wore her armor, with a bandage across her cheek and around her left upper arm. With her sword at her hip and her bow strapped to her back, she was still ready for battle, and given Tibarn's words before, she knew he was, too. "...Hey."

She paused next to him before placing her right hand hand gently on his upper arm, looking out at the company visible around them. "I'm... sorry. About Gerlach. And the others." She squeezed gently, hand slipping along his arm before falling back to her side. She bit her lower lip, closing her eyes briefly. "I don't need to tell you all about how they're not going to get away with this. Just remember that-- I'm here to help you if you need me. All right?"

Her eyes narrowed as she glanced towards the horizon, then back to the rest of the Learanian forces, busily patching up their wounds while they had the chance. "...War is ******** hell." She straightened up, narrowing her eyes in the direction of the horizon again as she noticed one of the scouts hurry along the perimeter with an urgency rarely displayed. "Is... is that..." Her eyes widened. "Oh, <********>

Melethia looked over the horizon to the now burning Pentheus. She was starting to feel excited, though she wouldn't let it show on her face. Revenge was something that had been a thought of the half-dragon for a while now. At first she thought about just plain roasting Rath, but she realized that wouldn't make things better. If she could capture him, revenge would be a lot sweeter. She could torture him before she killed him.

Melethia had warned Legault about what she was going to end up doing. As soon as she was far enough away where most of the battle she was going to make it rain fiery death. The half-dragon knew most of the Sentrians forces were too stupid to realize that they gave her some high grade fire magic, one of the was Meteor. Melethia saw that tome had all it's uses, but using it once was more than enough to cause some mass chaos.

Battles, wars, and chaos were all something she lived with back home. She tried her best to adjust to peace, but it didn't always work. That's probably why she got blamed for whatever put her in the asylum, but Melethia couldn't remember what landed her there in the first place.

Something she loved was the desert. It felt most like home than the fights and chaos. Besides if she ran back to the desert, who would follow her? No one, unless they wanted to die from the heat. Being a half-fire dragon did help in these situations.

Once she saw the forces that moving, Melethia got up and started to head off on her own to set her plan in motion. It did not matter to her which side wins. It only mattered if things went off perfectly for her.

'Licking one's wounds' seemed more like something that a Beast Laguz would do than any other race. Even so, Sunil at least knew that tending his own wounds by licking would probably make the others uncomfortable, so he opted for magical healing and bandages.

Because he had taken damage all over his body while fighting, he had bandages all over his torso and arms, and it could be assumed that there were some under his pants as well. As wearing his top over the bandages would have been too restricting and uncomfortable, he decided to go back to Hatarian customs and remain shirtless. Of course, the top remained on, although he was exposing a lot of his bandaged upper body. The cat had some semblance of decency, after all.

He was staring at his bandaged hands as he sat a little ways away from the others. Some people probably did not take too kindly to his outburst earlier, so it was probably best if he kept his distance so that they could forget about it later. Sunil was already ostracized by his kind once. He didn't think he could endure it a second time as he closed his eyes and clenched his fists, feeling a dull ache in his head and hands.

His upper arm felt itchy, so he slipped a finger under the bandages to scratch it. The cat had pushed himself a lot more than usual during the previous battle. However, he still hadn't been pushed to or beyond his limits, although going that far would not benefit anyone. He was tired after the battle, but after a short rest he managed to recover a fair amount of his stamina.

However, it didn't seem like the battle was quite over. Though they were still quite a ways away, he could definitely smell the desert and a wave of killing intent approaching. Learanian allies wouldn't be coming that way, nor would they have that sort of scent if they were allies. That meant...

Looks like break time's over, he grimaced. Seems like the warning from before was true.

He slowly got back up to his feet before dusting his pants. Sunil then headed towards where he could smell Tibarn and Amelia to inform them of the approaching threat.

...It seemed like he had come a little too soon, as the mood around the two seemed a little too... odd. He wasn't sure what made it seem odd, but whatever had caused it didn't matter. He would wait before their little moment didn't seem so awkward to interrupt as he looked away towards the horizon.

Sunil then heard Amelia's comment before he turned to face them. "There's a lot of them. It'll be tough to get everyone combat ready, especially against fresh enemies. Orders?" he asked.

Ladies how about a lovely dinner?

Sain was glad he was one of the few people who ended up not needing to be looked at for injuries. Ok he was bruised from when Rajin ran into him, but all the healers were already over worked. He figured he could get by with not getting bruises healed if that's all he had.

Sain sighed as he looked back to the city. He would mark that as an ok job for what happened. The time for mourning would be later on the losses that happened.

He then looked over to where more and more heads were turning to. There was now a more serious look on the paladin's face.

"Looks like they're tired of waiting," Sain said as got on Homeros, waiting for what to do next.

This... was an utter disaster. Pentheus was in flame from the bombing and their troops were in disarray. How did this happen? When did Sentrian force become better at military strategy? That land had no governing ruler but fulled of barbarians and bandits. When did they ever become well-organized to battle a military experienced army?

The paladin was having trouble focusing from what happened as she was busied tending some of the wounds. She thought that helping the injures would ease her mind, but it didn't. Not while that message their mysterious messenger sent them. With their troops barely had time to rest as well as being injured from the bombing, she was unsure if they could survive against the Sentrian force coming after them. She prayed to St. Elimine for a miracle as well as hoping the reinforcement coming now instead of later.

Isadora looked toward the horizon of Learania. So far, there was no sign of the reinforcement. Did someone from their troop send the messenger to Vaida or the others? If so, what if something happened to the messenger? So much stressing and so little time. However, she needed to concentrate one at a time and the priority was the Sentrian force.

After finishing bandaging the wounded soldier, Isadora got up and walked toward Amelia, Tibarn, and Sunil. She looked at the horizon where they were looking at. Although nothing had happened, she couldn't help feel the tension rising and heated up. After being quiet so long, she spoke.

"I hope the reinforcement are coming sooner than we expect," The Dame Knight grimly spoke as she continued watching the horizon. "We've lost two-third of our supplies in Pentheus due to the bombing and we're running low on them, especially the healing supplies since we need to tend our soldiers. I don't know if we can drive back the Sentrian, much less survive this battle. We need a miracle if we have a chance to turn this battle around."

Just then, she noticed something odd going on in the horizon. Little specks from the horizon were starting to move, along with battle cries. The paladin frowned. It looked like the enemy had started their move.

Not waiting any moment, the paladin turned around and marched toward her horse. As she stroll passed the soldiers, both wounded and tired, she grabbed a steel lance along the way. With her silver sword tucked in her scabbard and the lance in her hand, she pulled herself over the saddle of her horse. Snapping the reins, she strolled over to Amelia and Tibarn.

"You've better call out an order now or else this will be the end of us."

While everyone was busied licking their wounds, Rajin was busied checking on himself to see if he received any burn from escaping the hellhole. Even if he wasn't near the fire, he could still feel the burning heat as well as the sting of the fire. He shuddered at the thought about being burned.

Seeing that there were no burn marks on him, he took out his pouch and looked inside. So far, he had plenty of vulnerary to heal in case, but should he give his to one of the injures? They looked like they needed more than him.

Before he could do anything, his ears perked up when he heard battle cries. Looking at the direction where the cries came from, he saw the Sentrian force running. What? Already? But they had barely little time to rest.

"God damnit." Rajin cursed as he put his vulnerary away and strolled over to where Sunil and the others were. Judging by their expressions, it looked like they noticed the enemy was approaching too.

"Man, talk about jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire." Rajin stretched as he stood next to Sunil. Although he looked like he was ready to fight, he couldn't shake an odd feeling he's having. For some strange reason, he had an awful feeling that something terrible was about to happen. And when his instinct told him it was going to be bad, it was bad. However, with the army in terrible position and an army coming at them, what choice did they have?

Tibarn wasn't wearing any more bandages than usual; his healing was taken care of in the city, and he mostly tried to get some rest in the intervening time. When Amelia found him, he was sitting on a rock, staring at the horizon, rubbing his eyes with his palms.

"Mnuh?" He turned as he felt her touch his arm, and then sighed as she brought up Gerlach. "I'm gonna miss him," he sighed softly. "He was a great soldier. And a... friend. But this is..." He sighed, leaning against her lightly. "War is hell," he agreed, laying his head on her shoulder lightly. "But... thanks." He was just starting to let his hand snake around her hip, intent on pulling her over for a hug, when he heard the voices beyond the horizon. His acute hawk ears twitched, wings snapping open as he stood up just moments before the bandits became visible running over the dunes ahead of them.

He swore violently, wings flapping hard as he lifted several feet into the air and turned back to face Isadora. "I don't care for miracles. We're not beaten yet. Mages! Create a firewall! Fliers, hang back until we've seen their volley capability! All infantry, take up defensive formations behind the firewall and wait for it to go down! Archers, fire through it into their ranks, go!" He pointed, then turned to face the oncoming enemy.

"Drake is mine," he rumbled under his breath, sweeping smoothly into the sky before the firewall began forming to block the advancing bandit troops.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.It was hard to admit that Viscen's plan had actually worked. It was too easy to simply blame him when things went wrong, given his general inability most of the time to not act like a petulant child. But this had been... surprisingly effective. Murphy stayed silent as he moved back towards the rest of the army; the other Shadow Guild members had probably already reached their companions, leaving Murphy as the final man to return. Hopefully he wouldn't find reason to be upset about it. They had set off the bombs as expected, the Learanians had fled the city, and there was still a city standing after everything was said and done.

The small Assassin was silent as he finally returned to the Serpent Fang's forces, drawing his hood once more. He slipped through the mass and located Drake, eyes rising to meet his. His hand tightened imperceptibly against the hilt of his knife as he stared up at the blond man, letting out a short, silent breath. "...Here for further orders, sir."

There was nothing more he should say.

Kieran still had no idea what was going on. Some people had explained he was in a different world and all, at first Kieran was just confused and more than a little shocked, once he realized that he was pretty certain being transferred between worlds made his comission with the Royal Knights void that had turned into panic. What would he do now? His beloved Crimea was lost to him, no longer could he bare the proud title of a Royal Knight. Worse, if he was in a different world than Oscar, how would his arch enemy hear of his glorious exploits!

Not certain where he was going to go from here, Kieran suddenly came to a descion had turned custody of his prisoner to a Learanian soldier who promised to see the man to Eyris. Allowing the ex-Knight to wheel his horse around and beg the Learanian commanders to allow him to join their forces. With Callil as a referance to his former elite position they'd been happy to take him aboard. Lacking a commander since one had died, and never having an offical calvary captain in the first place, they'd even given Kieran an extremely small group of volounteer cavalry to lead.

He sat astride his horse now, in front of his tiny group of volounteers at the far west side of the front of the army. His group was clearly poorly outfitted, the men he'd been given command of were about ten in number, on whatever horses could be spared, few of them had ever even seen a battle before and had brought their own armour which looked held together by prayers and kitchen utensils.

Kieran wasnt stupid nor was he offended by the position. He was new to this country, there was no way their leaders would put him at the head of a large or experianced group where he could possible fail or betray them and have a large impact. It made sense that they'd stick him leading the small group of volounteers, that way they wouldnt have to send one of the more important soldiers with officer experiance.

The red knight reached up and scratched his uncovered head, he'd given his helm to another man in his squad who didnt even have a pot to wear. He'd spent as much time as he could training these men, explaining what a wedge formation was, teaching them how to properly hold their lances and axes, he'd even called over that Green Knight that was part of the watch and asked him to show them how to use a sword on horseback. They were as ready as they'd get.

"Alright Men! Remember everything I told you!" He shouted loud enough for those on the far east side of the Learanian army to hear. "Follow me, dont get bogged down by fighting and always keep moving! We're too small to win a fight against any other unit so we're just gonna keep blitzing their flanks until whatever unit we're trampling breaks ranks and runs! They dont have any pikemen so we should be fine as long as we dont get caught! Above all else though remember the story about the time I defeated the bloodletting sparrows of east---" The Sentrian army cut him off with a roar as they charged.

"Fast pace! Wheel left!" Kieran shouted turning his horse. "We'll charge diagonally towards them, pass the charging troops and wheel around to take them from behind! If they chase us instead we'll stay ahead of them and buy the archers more time to thin them out! Stay near me!" The Knight spurred forwards, his small group of volounteers riding behind him.

Ewan

"It's one thing after another today...I almost forgot why I hated these long-term campaigns..."

It was a bitter comment, directed mostly to himself, as the wear and tear of the battlefield began to dig at him. His hands burned from the explosions and the fire of the last hours. Already he could feel his legs buckling somewhat underneath him if only to be somewhat alleviated by the swig of water passed to him by one of the clerics assisting him. Supplies were being passed around between those on the medical staff faster than a legitimate peasant railgun, with staves being discarded into the desert sand and vulneraries being one of the most necessary commodities they could get their hands on, it was becoming more and more obvious that the damages that they took within the city were possibly more than they could afford.

"...Even then, it wasn't just materials we lost..."

A concerned glance was tossed Amelia's way, then Sunil, before finally resting on Tibarn. Though his time within this world may not have been as long as most, he had learned enough to respect the Hawk King, and what was possible under his command. He had a way with words that the Sage had not since since Ephraim, though his was coated with the years of experience and diversity of command that the prince could only covet. But even someone like him...Wasn't immune to lost. There would be time to say good-bye, to lay them to rest, once this was all over. For now, all he could do was make his way to his feet, give a word of confidence to the soldier he was treating, and push the legs that threatened to give out underneath him to take his position among the mages.

"Let's take back the day! I've still got some fight in me left, so I'm not letting anyone fall beside me!"

~Calill~

This was not Calill’s war to fight... This was NOT Calill’s war to fight.

The severity of many of the Sartorial Sage’s new allies’ conditions combined with the gravity of their overall situation both stacked upon this still being her first day in the world of Learania was understandably weighing very heavily upon Calill. This same day in which she had only just recently diffused a deadly bomb, Calill had been spending time with her daughter Amy. She’d gone from the vicinity of her home and businessplace to an active warzone wrapped in grief and frustration.

The mother and wife was rightfully experiencing her own share of both.

But even as this was all descending upon her, Calill was able to use staves, and that meant she was actively working to Heal and Mend their wounded. “I need another staff to use. Please fetch me one if you can, dear” she told some soldier or other. As her request was being carried out, just when Calill finally had the unfortunate luxury of being able to contemplate the horror of her situation, it too, was destroyed as the clamor of enemies could be heard in the distance.

This was all just too much. Calill is fabulously competent and great under sudden unexpected pressures and such, but all of this on her first day in Learania? What had she gotten herself into? What had the Universe itself dragged her into? As the roar of adversaries to the Learanians slowly grew louder Calill’s heart started racing thinking about Largo – thinking about Amy! She couldn’t allow herself to be defeated despite the situation seemingly defeating her; even if she was in another dimension in the middle of a war right before a battle torn away from those she loved! NO; she would fight on for the belief of reclaiming her family, even if that meant fighting dimensions of distance and a war she shouldn’t even be a part of. And she’d look ******** fierce and fabulous all the while.

Much of the infantry that had been injured from the previous skirmish but had been healed was capable of fighting again. But there were still many more in need of healing yet, and the more able fighters they had, the better their odds of victory. Calill intended to bolster those odds with staves, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t get in on the action in a more direct manner. Strutting hurriedly from the main infirmary tent outside, the Sage approached Amelia just as Tibarn had flown off for the battle. “Lady Amelia, I intend to continue healing our wounded so they might all be able to participate in this fight as soon as possible, but I still wish to utilize my array of talents as fully as possible if they would be of use. Might there be any siege tomes in our supplies, particularly those rooted in Fire such as Meteor?” she asked the General. “I have experience using siege magic while trying to defend a location and know I could do so now.”

Flashbacks of assisting the fair Queen Elincia defend herself against the vile Duke Ludveck’s forces came to Calill - homegurl knew what she was doing, requesting Meteor tomes; she was a world-class sage, after all. Even if she was an emotional mess on the inside merely forcing herself to maintain composure, she still exuded glamorous confidence on the outside – and that made her seem tougher than any armor.

Amelia tried not to linger on the moment lost between them as he rose to his feet and swore alongside her at the appearance of a veritable wall of approaching bandits. She looked up at Tibarn in silence as his voice boomed across the company, giving orders. He flew off without another word in her direction, and her gaze followed him before his form became too hard to see in the sky.

She bit back a sigh, turning to face the others after that. "I'm glad to hear that, Ewan." Amelia wrapped an arm around her redheaded friend -- his height still stunned her, geez! -- and hugged him tightly before releasing him a few seconds later. "Go make sure the healers are all prepared and that everyone at least has a staff they can use in the event of further injury. I want guards stationed so that soldiers still too injured to fight won't risk being assassinated by an attack from the rear while we're busy fighting off bandits from the front. Then come find me again, got it?"

She turned to face Calill as the woman's voice hit her ears, and Amelia couldn't help but smile. She hadn't known the Sage for long, but her class and poise amid even the worst of battle situations was admittedly relaxing enough on its own. "Good to see you're still in one great piece," she laughed, smiling wide. "I'd appreciate that, Calill. We should have a Meteor or two available, and if it's not in the convoy, it'll be with mage unit Alpha. They should be too busy with the firewall to use siege weaponry, anyway. If they try to argue, tell them I gave you the permission to acquire it for more useful purposes." She patted her gently on the shoulder, admiring her gown for a moment. "Thanks, Calill. We'll try to help sort out everything else once this is all over, okay?"

She had other things to handle, though. Iris was inspecting her gear as Amelia approached her quietly, hand on her hip. "Hey, Iris? I need to ask you something right quick."

"Oh?" Iris glanced at Amelia for a moment before putting her tome away. "Certainly! Anything for my wonderful captain. How may I be of assistance?"

"I just needed to ask-- earlier, while fighting in Pentheus..." Amelia lowered her voice a little, expression puzzled. "How did you do that to those bandits?"

"Do what, specifically?" Iris looked a bit confused herself. "Magic is a diverse art, I'm afraid you will have to be a bit more specific."

"I've-- I've never seen anyone behead a man with magic." Amelia's head tilted to the side slightly as she watched Iris, who gave a casual wave, as if to dismiss her incredulity, and a slight laugh.

"Oh, really? I assure it is quite possible." Iris glanced a bit to seemingly empty space to Amelia's right side, frowning briefly before returning her gaze and continuining. "You must not be familiar with how magicians operate."

Amelia paused, eyes moving to where Iris' did. There was nothing there. She frowned momentarily, brow furrowing. "I... must not be. No magical talent, personally."

Iris glanced harder in the empty direction, clearly looking annoyed. She slowly returned her gaze back to Amelia, taking a deep breath and continuing on. "Yes, yes... it's a pity not all of us can cast... summoners, specifically, are a talented branch."

Amelia stared at the space above Iris' shoulder. "...Are you staring at one of your summons, then?"

"I-- well, yes, I suppose I am. It's a particularly noisy one--" She winced as though someone were yelling at her, glaring hard in the direction, and paused a moment before going on. "She's loud and she smells quite bad, too!" She continued to glare hard at the empty space.

"...Are you supposed to be the only one who can see it?" Amelia asked, frowning, as she peered harder at the space beyond Iris' shoulder. "I mean, I remember speaking to Knoll before back on Magvel, and he was a summoner, but he mostly created shambling skeleton creatures that could fend off enemies and create blockades so we could kill them without worrying about counterattack." She paused, glancing at Iris. "Is this an incomplete summon or something?"

Rarity: Iris looked clearly annoyed at this point. "Considering her ridiculousness, I wonder sometimes!"

Amelia just nodded slowly, one hand holding her naginata, butt against the earth, while the other remained at her hip. "Right... I just wanted to make sure you knew that you need to report to the mage units not maintaining the firewall ASAP. Got it?"

"Oh, yes, yes, of course..." Iris's eyes wandered very slowly back to that empty space.

Amelia sighed, nodding. "Right. Just... get to it." She walked away, rubbing a hand against her forehead to push her hair away from her eyes. She could hear Iris shouting at something that wasn't there, complete with angry gestures. "What a weird kid," she muttered under her breath.

"I think I can manage that, and I won't even charge you for this one!" The sage's smile had been renewed by the comforting hug, a little reminder that there he still had friends himself in this conflict to fight for. "And Amelia?" He called out to his friend, one who his opinion of had been steadily changing throughout the whole conflict. "I just want you to know...You're doing your best here, and it's.." Despite the lack of time they each had, Ewan had to take a moment to fuss with hair just a tad bit too long slipping from his hood, trying to find the right words to say. "...You both have nothing at all to be ashamed of, and I'm proud to be out here fighting as your friend. And..." The scrunched up, queasy, nasty feeling in his stomach eased away as the knot dispersed at his words, something he had been needing to express. "I'm happy for you and so, so proud."

"I mean it."

The sage then perked up his head in the direction of "Miss World Class Sage" that he had spoken to earlier, before everything had gone to hell. "You know something? You're really earning up to that title. At this point, you're almost as cool as my teacher!" The best grin he could muster was addressed her way, along with a thumbs-up for good measure. "Thank you for everything you've done, especially for a couple of strangers." And with that, he was off and bound for the rest of the medical corps, once again giving a passing thought to how he had gotten into this situation. Still, it wasn't that bad of a gig! A firewall, huh? It had been quite some time since he had seen someone getting clever with military tactics, and it was getting some blood rushing in that battered body of his.

"Alright everyone! We still have some ways to go, so that means our jobs aren't done! I want a full check of current supplies, five minutes ago! A compiled list of lost or missing items can be filled out after we all make it out in one piece, got that? All Physic and other long-rage staves are to be considered as valuable as always, don't be loose with your magic people! I want any Catharsis or Fortify staves in the hands of all experienced healers! Everyone else, keep to the back and wait for mounted units to retreat for first-aid! We're fighting defensively here, so the last thing we need is to lose any of you today! You are the backbone to our line of defense, so let's see you fighting with some purpose out there! Let's give them hell to pay!"

He lifted the Catharsis in his own hand, trying to urge the rest of the healing unit into action as they returned his gesture in favor. (Though some did resort to a simple bow, something he would never understand, but he certainly wasn't arguing against it. "Alright people, we need some guards on the double! I don't want to see any backhanded thuggery like Pentheus. I want recommendations from each of the unit leaders, for their experienced and their trustworthiness. This fight is in each and everyone one of our hands, down to the last man!"

Orders were barked out, something he certainly wasn't used to wearing the hat for, but wasn't going to complain much about, and people were directed this way and that. To be honest, for a volunteer like himself, it was certainly something otherworldy to experience. After all, he had been just a child really the last time war had been so kind to visit him. Even then, he wasn't some commander, just someone out to prove himself. Someone...Someone just trying to have a little fun. How in the world did he find himself here?

"Well...That's because I have a job to do."
