The Miss Taken Tower

General Information
As the general, jack-of-all trades division, the Mist Hunter training course is a combination of the other divisions' training challenges and also one of the more complicated. The goal of this course is to rescue the princess in the tower. Below her, you'll find yourself confronted with a number of shadowling attackers, and beyond them, a room of only slightly deadly traps. But even should you reach her location, you still need to pick the lock on the manacles holding her in place. Unskilled fiddling with the locks will prove unhealthy for both the princess and yourself. And once that's done, you need to make your way back down through the traps and shadowlings, defending the princess the whole way.

The Miss Taken Tower is one of the most challenging and frustrating courses available.

If you fail: your princess dies, and you are quite possibly KO'd. Senior hunters are observing and will make with a timely rescue as needed.

If you win: the princess will adore you for the rest of her exceedingly brief existence. Peen points for 100% health for you and the Princess, shadowlings fought, going for consecutive rescues.

  • Part 1
    Mechanics
    - roll your regular attack
    - roll your regular attack again
    - if you miss an attack, you lose 50% of your full HP

    Bonus Mechanics
    - This bonus is consumable.
    - for the Mist Course, it is recommended you review the mechanics of the other division courses, as the division bonuses carry over.

    - Trainees: 0 recoveries
    - Mist/Sun Trainees: 1 recovery
    - Hunters: 1 recovery
    - Mist/Sun Hunters: 2 recoveries

    - adjust your HP and bonus count accordingly
    - roll 1 d10 to determine what your character is about to step into

Cass sat outside of the tower, tapping away at her phone with a small smile on her face to the ever so eager-to-please Kouhai she had adopted.

Text to Abbi:
Hey! Come to the Mist Taken Tower could you? I want to give you a general overview on training courses with it.

I promise you won't die horribly.

That's a hefty promise. Death will try to kill everybody with their training. Nicodemus said but Cass shrugged and waited anyways.

Even if Cass had said that Abbi would have died horribly, she probably would have come anyways. Since death had been promised to not happen, the teen hurried all the more, flat out hustling to get there in a timely manner. A return text had been sent, but it had been mostly hearts and smiley faces, so at least Cass knew to expect the girl and by the time she arrived, after taking a wrong turn and having to double back, she was panting but still smiling. It took a few moments to catch her breath, but when she finally did, Abbi hopped into the air once with a happy noise.
"Hi Miss Cass! Thanks for inviting me to do this um... Training-Mission-Thing! I'm really excited it looks like a lot of fun!" Actually it looked kind of scary. What was with the big tower? Well, granted that was kind of the point since it was called The Miss Taken Tower... But then again it was more about what was inside the tower. By now Abbi had learned to expect Terrible Things behind closed doors, especially when it involved training. Sure, the Jenga course had been pretty easy but man... That at least had the piranhas right out in the open for her to see!

Still, she took a deep breath and moved closer to the Tower door. For a second she reached out to just open it up and pull it open to then launch herself into its unknown depths, but instead she turned back to face Cass.
"So! What should I expect in there? Any pointers?" Miss Cass had invited her along, after all...

Cass waited patiently on her little companion to meet up with her, idly texting her husband in the meantime (which may have been why she had such a big doofy look on her face by the time Abbi arrived).

When the young moon arrived Cass was right up on her feet, beaming. "Glad you could make it!" she grinned before looking to the tower. "Mist Taken Tower is a training run for Mists who are supposed to at least have a proficiency in several of the other divisions, so it works to keep us on our toes and always changing." she explained, "Going in it'll be a Sun-Run in a mostly dark room with shadowlings in it - Shadowlings are partially formed FEAR, not enough to have a real shape but enough to pack a punch. After that it'll be a floor of Deathsweeper style traps, then it's a matter of picking some locks on a Princess Golem - I had them randomly generated so who knows who we'll get. Then we have to escort the princesses back downstairs safely." she explained, tilting her head from side to side before looking back to Abbi, "Does that sound like a completely jumbled mess? Because I sound like a completely jumbled mess."

Still, she smiled.

The goofy grin on Cass's face did not go unnoticed, the cause of such quickly put together when Abbi spied her putting away her phone. D'awww, that was so precious! One day the teen wanted to be that happy, but for now she would be content that Miss Cass was the one who was deliriously content.
Grinning since she was glad to have been called upon, the girl dutifully listened to her Sempai and nodded at turns where it felt appropriate.
"Oooohhhh. So its like a jumble of all the other training courses? That's cool! I've only done one so far, it was Jenga but it wasn't too hard so hopefully I can handle this!" The idea of Shadowlings made her fret a little, the worry obvious in the way her smile froze and her eyebrows began to dart up. After a moment of consideration, the teen stopped.
"Wait... We? Are you coming with me?!" Wow that was so exciting!

"It didn't sound like a jumbled mess at all! Fight the shadowlings, play Deathsweeper, then save the Princess! Go it!" Without waiting for further instruction, Abbi raced over to the door and threw it open before she tossed herself into the room, summoning Viveca once she had cleared the doorway. The rush of shadowlings was initially startling enough that even though Abbi shouted her surprise to see them, she quite forcefully swung Viveca to clear them. And clear they did, a path created a few feet before her.
Alright! Good start!

Cass couldn't help the slight crinkle of her nose at the mention of Jenga and the small groan. "Jenga was awful both times I sat to finish that course. The runic weapon is worth it, but..." Awful.

Abbi's seeming surprise at Cass coming along made her raise her brows a bit. "Did you think I was just going to stand out here and watch you? Even a full rank needs to brush up on the basics every now and then. I mean, what would I do if I couldn't even do this tower anymore?" she asked, patting the wall next to her. While Abbi threw herself into the course, Cass followed at a more leisurely pace, clearly not in a rush, but also not shuffling her feet as she walked after her.

The chain of runes that connected Nicodemus' two halves glowed ominously in the dark as she summoned the weapon, bringing the blade swinging through the darkness and even firing off a few shots as she did so. Hey. She was senpai.

She got to show off a little bit.

"Wooooow really? I did it with my friend Jack, big tall guy kind of a butt, and we both got it on our first round! We did get a little woozy toward the end, but we managed it!" So that wouldn't help Cass feel any better about her own experiences with the Jenga set, but Abbi just wanted to show off to her Senpai just a little!
But the teen turned all sorts of impressed and awed and sparkly when Cass told her she was coming along. That was... This was... Best senpai ever.
"THANK YOU FOR COMING WITH ME I'LL DO MY BEST OK OK YES OK YES LET'S GO YAYAYAYAYAYYAYAY!!!" No Abbi wasn't a bit excited, why do you ask?

The inside of the tower wasn't so bad, nor were the mass of shadows that pushed in from all sides. Initially scared by them, the knowledge that Cass was here made Abbi feel a little better so she only gripped her hands around Viveca and continued on. The gunshot did make her squeak and she turned around to watch Cass for a little bit, impressed with the blade and the gun.
You think you could get a gun attachment?
{ Don't ye count on it, little bit. }
Abbi smiled to herself over that and just barely remembered she was supposed to be saving a princess, realizing just as a shadow swiped at her that she needed to attack. This time she used the staff part to stab down into the shadowling that tried to bite her leg, watching it poof into nothing with a grin.
"Alright! That wasn't too bad!" Nothing could go wrong with such an attentive and wonderful senpai!

An attentive murderous senpai. Just not towards beautiful little kouhais, but rather to shadowlings as Cass had cleared herself a very distinct path through them all. "Excellent!" she praised, though she did make a point to not comment on Jenga. Nobody liked Jenga. That was how Cass felt about it, anyways, and clearly her opinion was more.....colored.

With markers, to be exact.

Heading up the stairs after Abbi, the next floor prompted Cass to unsummon her weapon and fold her arms, looking at all of the tiles with the same mild suspicion. "They do cycle this floor more often then you'd think they have the attention for...." she said quietly. With all the things that happened on the island, they still had time to make for instant death.

Now that she was through the darkened first floor of the tower, Abbi took a moment to turn back and watch Cass-sempai, especially for any helpful hints on combat. Mostly the teenager was able to glean that wow her sempai was best sempai and mowed down creatures like nobodies business and wow she could only hope to be that cool in her wildest dreams. At least she was content to settle for being even a fraction as cool as Cass. Wow such sempai.
Noticing that the older girl unsummoned her weapon when she reached the next floor, Abbi followed suit and turned around to see...
A literal deathsweeper floor.
Oh. Well then.

"Whaddya mean they cycle it?" The teen asked as she looked at her options and then took a daring step forward. Nothing happened.
No fire, no pit opening up, no piranhas, no nothin'.
"I was never very good at Minesweeper but it looks like this square is safe!" Were you impressed Cass-Sempai? Oh please say you were.
