▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄ Calypso Fray ♡ Calypso trekked through the streets, looking from left to right as she moved. The sights of the world around her never stopped sending chills down her spine. What was once a beautiful city with towns on the outskirts was now plain and simple ruins. There was a risk for people like her, the people who didn't want to live in the confines of the quarantine zones. Those zones were supposed to be 'safe' with their various military guards and checkpoints. Callie wasn't stupid, she knew what the guards really did to people. They walked around with scanners, checking if anyone had contracted the airborne virus that had started this all. If anyone proved to be infected, they'd be taken down where they stood. It didn't even matter who was watching. And, to think, that all of this started because some mushrooms had mutated. Calypso held onto one of her bookbag straps with one hand and held a lead pipe in the other. She had guns, that was something that was required in life now, but bullets were becoming scarce and she needed to find more. That was what she was doing now, scavenging for bullets and food. She lived on her own in a boarded up house not to far from the quarantine zone. She knew how to get in and out of the zone on her own without being detected so that she could try to survive on her own rather than under the brutality of the same people who claimed to be wanting to 'help'. Callie went over her checklist in her head over and over again. Bullets, weapons of any kind, and food. Callie had always had this dream of finding a usable car so that she could try to find her way to someplace else in the country but it was hard to do something like that without being detected by some bandits. Those assholes were cannibals, man. Callie observed the small houses in the neighborhood, wondering which one would be easiest to break into without being detected. You could never know who was hiding in them or who was trying to scavenge them. Sometimes people were friendly, other times they were far from it♡

Cameron had a black backpack slung across his back, he had long-ish hair, which was rare on males these days. There were a few reasons that Cam was still alive, first was four years of middle school taking MMA, second was the Revolver S&W 357 Magnum he had strapped in a holster on his belt. He had found the gun in a stroke of luck while searching someones home. It was hidden in a draw in the kitchen. Cameron was pretty sick of having to live this way, but it was the only way. He was a loner, he didn't have a 'gang' like most people who lived outside of quarantine did. Cam didn't live in one set place, he moved all over, one night his stayed in a shoe store and another night in a gym closet. He had to wait for the people who were there to leave, he was to outnumbered to run or fight. He Looked up at the sky as it turned a pinkish-orange color and he walked down the sidewalk. Cameron knew he needed to find somewhere to spend the night, the nights were unsafe. The male usually stayed on the edge of city lines, where there were still tall apartment and hotel buildings but not where the masses of infected were, though they did come in groups sometimes.

♡ The brunette had finally found a house that seemed empty. Even if bandits weren't in the house, there was time to time when an infected may end up popping out of no where on Calypso. Sometimes people would see the signs of the infection in them before locking themselves up in their houses. It was stupid and dangerous for anyone who may come along afterwards but, eh, what could you do, right? Callie slid herself in through an upstairs window that wasn't boarded. It's been a while since this all started, Callie was born into this world, the school curriculum had gone from basic arithmetic to survival 101. The girl slowly stalking through the house, not wanting to make much noise. These infected didn't know that you were there unless they heard you or saw you. Calypso. The girl had stopped calling herself that. It was such an odd name, children weren't born with exotic names anymore. Everything as generic, no one had time to be special in this world. Calypso seemed to have hit the jackpot in this house since the people seemed to have abandoned it to go to the quarantine zone. Before the quarantine zones were created, everyone was told to stack up on the rations that were being handed out and to stay in their homes until the situation was handled. But it was never handled and they had to make area that could hold a large population in a small space the quarantine zones. No one got in, no one got out without proper registry. There was no need for you to ever leave your quarantine zone for another. Calypso slid as much non-expired food into her bag as possible. It was mostly canned goods but food was food, right? Beggars can no longer be choosers♡

Cameron kicked open the front door to a home, he cringed though, it made a louder noise than he had anticipated and as he thought be happen, out stumbled an infected and Cam grimaced at it as it staggered towards him. The male flipped out his butterfly knife and waited for the infected to get close enough to him and he stuck the dagger through its forehead and pulled it back out. Cameron kept the knife in his hand, he had found it in an old toolbox when raiding a mechanics shop. He pulled the door closed carefully in an attempt to keep quiet, but it was a little let for that now. The front door opened up into a living room. He looked around the room carefully searching for any movement. Seeing no sign of movement Cam gave the old couch a slight shove and it squeaked on the wood floor. He sighed, his plan was to move furniture to block doorways, at least enough that it would make a lot of noise if someone was to get in. Cameron looked out the window, light purple, that meant he didn't have much time before it was dark and this would have to be where he stayed, no matter what.

♡ Callie packed up her bag, being completely satisfied with the food she had grabbed since she actually found a couple bottles of water. Water, that was hard to find outside of the quarantine zones. The girl made her way back up the stairs and out of the window, sliding down the ledge before hanging herself off of it until she felt comfortable enough to let go. It was almost night time so it was either she runs back to her own neighborhood or she continues her search and camp out in one of the houses. If she did that, she could get an early start on the rest of the houses in the neighborhood. With a plan in her mind, Callie dash across the street and behind a car. Inside the car, much to Callie's surprise, contained two infected that slammed themselves against the windows, scaring the s**t out of Callie. Callie wasn't easily scared but, god damn, she was not expecting that. The infected weren't even worth killing because there was no way of them getting out of the car so Callie made her way to another house. The brunette always broke into houses from the second floor windows. She wouldn't break down doors since that always made a lot of noise. As she plopped down into the room, she looked around. No infected so far. Sometimes, the girl thought that she was just really lucky because she rarely ran into infected on these trips. And, if she did, the execution was nearly seamless. Callie slowly made her way down the steps and stopped abruptly at the sight of a boy in the living room, blocking the doorway with the couch. The smart thing would have been for Callie to hightail it out of the but the brunette remained where she stood, the gun from her thigh holster in her tight grip, just waiting for the boy to turn around and do something that she found threatening. Callie had already shot people without even giving them a chance but this person seemed to be alone so Callie could take the risk. "Is this your house?" she asked. Well, she wouldn't raid it if someone actually lived here. But, considering the dead infected and the amount of dust over the place, she was sure that the person didn't. Then again, the guy could have just moved in. ♡

Cameron had spun around and was now holding his Revolver aimed at the females head "Who are you and who are you with?" He snapped, clicking off the safety on the gun. Cam took a step closer to the female, he had sunglasses on, as he usually did, and his expression was unreadable. He held the gun up as he looked her over, she seemed fine, but people were hard to trust. Cameron's finger hugged the trigger on the gun and a loud bang sounded in the house, followed by a loud thud. Cam lowered the gun and looked at the body of the bloody mess of an infected at the bottom of the stairs. It was right behind the Callie and it tumbled down the stairs after Cameron shot it. He hooked his gun back into its holster and looked at the female "Who are you, and who are you with?" he asked again, this time pulling off his sunglasses.

♡ Calypso held the gun up, willing her hand not to shake. Why should she answer any of his questions? Well, he was already here when she entered. When the bang went off, Callie shut her eyes, wondering if she was dead. She had once read about not really feeling pain when first being shot because the body's first major instinct was to run instead. Callie examined her body as she realized he hadn't shot her, he had shot an infected. It could have killed her if he hadn't shot it. Well it may seem like a really silly thing but once you consider how a set of stairs wasn't an ideal fighting place, that could have ended up very badly for her. She didn't like being with people because that meant that you were obligated to save them and the same to her. That meant she owed this boy now. Callie had lowered her gun as she looked at the infected but raised it back as soon as the boy spoke again. She didn't care if he had put his gun away, he could still be dangerous. " I'm alone" she said. That was all she said as she went down the stairs a little bit more, keeping the gun aimed at him. After a moment of thinking of the situation, the girl sighed. " My name's Callie" The girl quickly moved down the stairs and past the boy to the window, even if her back was turned to him for a split second, she still had the gun aimed at him. The girl was just checking out the window to see if the bang had attracted any infected. It had but it was only a few, all they needed was for a stray cat to run past the house or something and then the infected would go away. Callie spun back around, looking at the guy. " You attracted infected" she stated, as if she was blaming him rather than thanking him for keeping her alive for a few more hours.♡

Cameron raised an eyebrow at her, examining her dark hair and thin body. He shook his head at her as if she was an immature bothersome child. He ignored the fact that she had a gun aimed at him, he knew she wouldn't shoot, girls were predictable and her body language showed she was scared of him, and not threatening. "I had no idea." The male stated sarcastically, knowing that the sound would attract them, He spoke while hanging blankets up over the windows to keep the infected from seeing the movement within the house. "You can't leave now, i'd be suicide, Helping is your best option" Cam didn't even look at her as he hinted that she do something and not just stand around, He collected blankets from the closet in the bedroom and hung them as well until all the windows were covered. Each window already had one plank nailed across it but the blankets were an effective and easy tactic that Cameron had learned worked from experience. He stepped back after hanging the last blanket and made sure the furniture was sturdy against the door.

♡ Callie scoffed. She actually could have left if she wanted to. She would have had to try jumping from rooftop to rooftop which could have ended up as a lot more dangerous than being on the ground but she could have left regardless! Callie let out a heavy sigh, no human would be worth her bullets even if he seemed to be proving his rudeness. Callie put her gun back in her thigh holster, not even turning the safety on. If she needed to use the gun, it needed to be ready. Callie had busied herself with shutting the blinds upstairs. Well, the downstairs area wasn't exactly a safe place to stay if the infected attracted more infected. There's a chance that their combined weight could burst through the doors and windows. Once she was done with the upstairs since this stranger had seemed to have the downstairs under control, Callie silently crept down the stairs and into the kitchen, opening the cabinets and taking whatever could be of use to her. Well, she didn't take a lot since this other guy was here and he may want food also. Listen, Callie was all about watching her own back but she was not going to get into an all out war within this house when the only way of escape was inaccessible due to infected. Callie had already ransacked the bathrooms for any medicine that she could find. That's important too when you're on your own, you'd never know when something bad could happen. The girl was a lot tougher than she looked since she knew that she came across as soft to some people. The guards in the quarantine zones would tell her that whenever they saw her. They'd tell her that she seemed rebellious but was too soft to last outside the zones. She wished that she could prove them wrong in a way that wouldn't end up with them killing her or locking her up somewhere. Callie walked into the living room after checking if all the other doors were boarded up securely. It would be enough to last for the night, hopefully. " There's about two other doors but they're boarded up pretty heavily" she stated, looking at some obscured family pictures on the wall. "There's some unexpired food in the kitchen if you want it. Either take it or I'm sure as hell going to" Callie usually found herself in situations like this, having to camp out in a house. But she never slept. She only slept in her own place and, even then, she was on the top floor with vanities blocking the windows. Even right now, she prayed that no bandits got into her place. Of course they wouldn't, all her stuff was hidden under the floorboard so it'll look like the place was empty and they could move on. Callie wanted to try to stir up a conversation with this guy but, considering that she didn't even know his name, it was kind of hard to do so. The world had become a lot more hostile during recent years. " What's your name?" she asked, wanting to start off simple.♡

Cameron was a logical thinker, he avoided conflict and only used what he needed and moved on, he had no set place he lived, he'd lived pretty much everywhere. He'd only once got stuck outside at night, and after that night, he'd never let it happen again. He'd been observing Callie, she seemed like a very anxious girl, which made her, in Cam's eyes, a little hard to be around. Entering the kitchen and with a can opener he had in his bag Cameron popped open a can of peas from the cabinet. The male fished threw draws for a fork and finally found one. Cameron quickly shoved mouthful after mouthful of peas into his mouth he heard Callie ask him his name but he was too preoccupied with food at the moment to answer her. Cam was a very calm and cool type of person, he didn't mind company and being on his own wasn't a problem either. He'd been through a lot, even run into gangs, but he could usually talk his way out of it. Cameron scooped the last of the peas from the can into his mouth, chewed, and swallowed. Finally he answered the females question "Cameron, or Cam" he answered and drank whatever gross juice stuff was at the bottom of the can of peas, he drank anything he knew was safe, even if it tasted pretty vile.

♡ After hearing his name Calypso nodded slowly. It was a bit uncomfortable for Callie to be in this situation. She could hear the infected outside. Someone of them did the normal groaning noise while others practically screamed. Then there was the ones that only clicked; they were the infected that had been like that long enough for the fungus to over grow their faces. Callie had gone into the kitchen, only to be greeted by Cameron drinking the pea liquid. She cringed, walking away before returning back to him with a bottle of water. " Here, you don't have your own water? How do you survive?" Whenever Callie ran out of water, she'd usually go back to her zone and get her water ration so that she could fill the bottles us and head out again. Callie rubbed her neck, hearing the infected known as 'clickers' outside. She hated those things the most. You needed to pack a really heavy blast on them or else they'd just keep coming towards you." Are you from the zones?" Callie asked, looking at him skeptically. You could see that she was ready to pull out her gun if necessary. " Or are you a bandit?" Even if he didn't necessarily live in a zone, he had to be from one, right? Bandits....they weren't human at all. They didn't have a moral compass. Callie could be considered a bandit in certain situations but she had way too much heart to actually cut people up and eat them. ♡

Cameron blinked at the female and swallowed the last mouthful of bad tasting green liquid, making a twisted face to go with it. He took to bottle of water from Callie "Thanks. Theres water everywhere, you just have to know where to find it, and be willing to have some really gross tastes in your mouth" Cam took a swig of the water from the bottle to wash away the nasty taste of peas then put the top back on. "Gutters, drains, anything that will hold rain, there's a few old fountains around, but those are pretty vile" Cameron yawned into the back of his hand, soon he'd barricade himself in one of the upstairs rooms and go to sleep for the night "Zones?" He asked with obvious cluelessness. The male had no problem ignoring the sound of the infected that were outside, he was so used to it by now that it didn't even phase him. "Those are real?" he wiped his mouth with his sleeve, he'd never been within one of the zones and assumed that it was just a false hope for whatever survivors were left, he never thought about it being a real thing. He was raised out here, scavenging for anything he needed. He was with his dad and no one else for a long time, but when he was 15 his dad died, and now, four years later, Cameron had nothing but his backpack.

♡ Callie seemed appalled by the idea of drinking water from strange places. She knew that they no longer lived in a world that allowed you to be selective about where you get your survival supplies from but still...." How do you know if it's toxic or not?" she asked. Callie's parents once told her that they always imagined the world going to s**t over nuclear war, not mutated mushrooms. Maybe toxic wasn't the best word to use. " Well, not toxic. More like contaminated, you know? Like....People shoot infected, what if the blood reaches a drain or something and gets mixed in there? How do you do that?" Callie had a camper's book bag on her back. The type that went above her by a couple inches but was obviously capable of holding with Callie needed to be held. The girl would never tell how much bottles of water she held with her. The brunette needed to ration her own water, part of her hope that she wouldn't regret giving a bottle to Cameron. What surprised her was that he didn't know about the zones. "Obviously" said Callie, finding it quite unbelievable that this guy didn't seem to know that the zones were real. " They're not much better than how it is out here but they're real" Where the zones lacked food and water, they made up for it with safety from the infected. Where the outside world lacked in safety from infected, it sure as hell made up for it in a food, water, and freedom. Callie was majority outside of the zones but she'd always go back in to see if she could pick up an odd job or something so she could build her ammo up. " They're military safety zones. They ration out food and water but at least you've got some shitty form of shelter and protection from the infected. I think that place is mostly for kids and elderly. You're not allowed to leave the zones without authorization but why, though? They teach kids in the schools how to defend themselves out here, yet we're not allowed to leave" Callie rolled her eyes, finding the system to be completely stupid. " I don't even know how people call that place home" Callie sighed. " So...you're not from the zones. So you're either a scavenger or a bandit, then. Have you ever seen winter outside the zones?" Winter was literally the only time Callie would go back into the zones for more than a couple hours. It was dangerous for anyone during the winter if they weren't properly prepared to take care of themselves. Callie wasn't ready for that just yet. ♡

Cameron nodded at the female in understanding "Huh, So it's not just a bunch of sh*t" He adjusted the strap of his backpack on his shoulder, it was a simple black backpack, nothing special. Water never seemed to be an issue for him and he couldn't understand why Callie was so astonished by it. "I mean, if the waters not clean you can see it, even smell it" Cam shrugged the idea of drinking whatever he found was something he grew up with, his dad and experience taught him everything he knew. He went a little while without speaking "it sounds like a fools paradise, The zones" Cameron watched as Callie spoke about the zones, he wouldn't know, he'd never been inside, he'd never even looked for one. "I've never been inside the Zones, where else would I go aside from everywhere else? Winters are hard, but its definitely not impossible" The male made a face as Callie tried to place him into a select group, he didn't think of himself as anything but 'Alive' and that was all he felt that he really needed to be.
