An older man with green eyes, who Sueno had seen maybe once or twice before, had stopped by to deliver some potions and take away some herbs from her mothers garden in trade. This time was different though, this time he had another person with him, a boy probably a good 10 years older than Sueno.

Sueno, snuggling her Vlidean, watched them approach and smiled when she over heard the conversation. Apparently she was gaining another big brother for the day! Good, she thought, I'll have him help me with my garden! Maybe he can move those boulders out of the way that way I can expand my garden...

Putting Videe down, she bounced over to where the strangers were talking with her mother and grabbed the taller boy's pant leg. She decided to get h is help beffore her parents found work for him out in the fields.
"Can ye help me today? Since yer gonna be here anyways an Ah could use yer help." She looked up at him with big puppy dog eyes. Big eyes always work in getting people to help! She thought to herself, especially Madryn. Maybe after he helps me, he'll stay and play a game with me too!

Ainsley, after spending so many years on the road with his mentor, knew well and good that Quan usually saddled him with the jobs that involved actual manual labor. Making deliveries and doing business was Quan's deal, and any job that involved hunting or basically breaking a sweat was left to Ainsley. That said, it was no surprise to the teenage blonde when, without even knowing it, Quan delivered him to a rather well-known farming family's house with promises that he was "very capable despite being so young" to get in a good day's work for whatever reason.

"Stupid old geezer..." he muttered as he watched Quan's back as he walked off back toward the town. As he was thinking about how to get back at his mentor, he felt a gentle tug at his pants, so he looked down and saw a little Orderite girl, probably around his age when he first met Quan, and quirked a brow.

"Help? With what?" This particular girl's big eyes weren't really working, probably because he didn't even know her name. Ava's big eyes worked really well on him, though. She could even fake-cry, and he'd know she was fake-crying, and she could still get him to do just about anything. Still, he looked at this little girl curiously, her pretty blue eyes ever so big, innocent, and almost pleading, before pointing at himself.

"I'm Ainsley, by the way. What's your name? You should at least tell me your name before asking for my help, you know."

"Ah'm Sueno! And Ah need help with mah garden! Is too small so Ah wanna expand it. But dere's dese big rocks in mah way... Ah can-na move them mah-self and Pa's too busy and Dyn-Dyn's out huntin' 'gain." She waved her hands in disgust at her male relatives. You'd think they'd help her, but no. Too busy! She slightly put out that the older boy hadn't caved immediately to her big eyes like her brother did, but oh well.
"And Ah wanna build a coop next tah the garden too! Gonna house critters as I try tah tame them." She looked triumphantly up at him. "Ah gonna be a farmer an a tamer when Ah grow up and Ah need a place tah do it in! But Ah've no skill in building things. Ye look strong so ye can help, yes?" Flatter aught to butter him up, she thought. If not, I'll ask Ma to lend him to me for the day....

translations: I'm Sueno. And I need help with my garden. Is too small so I want to expand it. But there's these big rocks in my way. I can't move them myself and Pa's too busy and DynDyn's (her brother) is our hunting again.
And I want to build a coop next to the garden too! Going to house critters as I try to tame them. I'm going to be a farmer and a tamer when I grow up and I need a place to do it (taming) in. But I've no skill in building things. You look strong so you can help me, right?

Her accent made her a bit hard to understand, but luckily Ainsley was able to piece together enough of what Sueno was saying and quirked a brow at her request. Of course grown men who weren't left behind like stragglers would have other things to do besides help a little girl with her garden, but since he was left here anyway then he might as well put his time to use. Ainsley, even after however many years on the road and living as a vagabond, was still the sort to prefer productivity over laziness, after all. He didn't need flattery for this sort of thing, though it certainly didn't hurt.

"If you're okay with me," he said with a little smile and a little sigh, "I don't mind giving you a hand. I don't know my way around gardens or coops though, so you'll have to show me the ropes a bit."

It was nice to see someone so young full of that kind of spirit. At her age, the biggest dream Ainsley had was simply to survive until the following day. That was all behind him though, or most of it was anyway, so he let the thought quickly pass and pointed in a random direction. "So, which way?"

"Yay!" Sueno gave him a brief hug before scampering inside to grab her poorly drawn plans of her larger garden, "Wait right dere! Gonna go git something!"

She grabbed her gloves and put them on before running back outside with her map. "Lookee here!" She offered it to him. "Ah need it expanded like that! And mah garden is dis way!"

Grabbing his hand, she dragged him towards her garden without waiting for him to look at the paper. "Gonna put up a new fence there, put in a small apple tree dere, plant some flowers along there, and gonna need to till that area and prep it for next springs planting....." She pointed at a rock the size of here where she wanted the tree, and pointed at a small line of sticks sticking up in the ground. "Ah already marked off where Ah want tah new fence! Just needed tah get rid of those pesky boul'ers!" There was several large ones inside her marked off area.
She turned and pointed at an old tree stump near the house. "An tah coop's gonna go there! Gotta pull that stump out! Pa said he'd help. But he got pulled intah helpin' tah neighbors with their fields today." She put her hands on her hips and smiled proudly at her small garden. It was her joy right now. She loved to fill it with odd plats, pretty plants, tasty plants, anything that caught her eye! She had a small box in her room filled with soil and seeds, where she was planning on growing the beginnings of some bushes and herbs over the winter so that they'd be ready for planting come spring. She was young, but gardening was in her blood and she had been raised watching her mother garden and her father talk about what to plan i the fields, why to plant is and so on to her older brother. Sueno had paid more attention to those lectures than her brother had.

Ainsley watched quietly as the young Orderite hurried inside, feeling a little strange after being given even just that small bit of affection. He wasn't used to that kind of physical contact so he wasn't really sure how to react. Thankfully it had come from a little girl, so there was no way to really misinterpret it. Had it come from Ava, that might have been a whole other story. He was still thinking this as he caught sight of Sueno hurrying back.

The little girl launched right into her explanation after handing Ainsley a map, which he never even really got the chance to look at as Sueno had dragged him along and started showing him around. She pointed at various things in the little space she had that was apparently her garden. Really, the only things that caught his eye were the Sueno-sized boulder and a few other large ones that she was asking him to either move or get rid of by some means unbeknownst to him, as well as a stump he figured he'd probably had to help get rid of as well.

With all the work ahead of him, Ainsley couldn't help but...smile, oddly enough. "Looks like there's a lot to do," the teen said. Luckily he hadn't really brought a lot of stuff with him, just his axe and a small pack, so he set his stuff down and took his coat off, then began to roll up his sleeves. "I think the boulders would be easier to get rid of first, so let's start there. I'm only moving them right? So where should I put them?"

It was a little weird asking for instructions from someone so much younger than himself, but all the same Ainsley looked at Sueno with a determined expression that said he was ready to work.

Sueno smiled up at Ainsley. So nice to have help! She'd have to try and guilt her brother and father into doing more work by telliing them how much nicer adn more reliable Ainsley was!

If ye could roll dem over there," she pointed directly across the garden, "That'd be best. Tah soil dere isn't good so Ah won't be wanting to plant dere for a while. I'll get mah Pa's tool kit and start on tah fence while you move stuff." She scampered off to go grab the stuff calling over her shoulder, "Try to avoid tah stcks with ribbon on dem! Ah just planted seedlings there so they can grow roots over winter!"
She then spent the next hour trying her(pitiful) best at nailing together a fence. This was much tougher than she'd thought it'd be! But she needed that fence to keep livestock out..... What she got was rather crocked and she started laughing at it. "Dat's not a fence at all!"

Moving boulders was, even for someone who had as much upper strength as Ainsley did from swinging around a giant axe for hours every day, very hard work. After getting directions from Sueno, who quickly went about her own business with the fence or something, Ainsley tried his best to move the offending boulders as quickly as possible. After an hour though, he'd only managed to get three out of the fenced in area before he collapsed next to the boulder he was currently rolling away to catch his breath.

Meanwhile, Sue was off laughing at her terrible fence-making skills. The teen groaned as he got up and walked over, laughing alongside the younger Orderite at the sight of her work. "No, definitely not a fence," he said after he managed to re-gather himself. "I think you could count it as a good effort, though." Shoot, it was probably better than anything he could muster together...but he wasn't going to say that much.

Then he jabbed his thumb back towards all the boulders that he had left to move. "I got some of the bigger ones out of the way, but it's a lot harder than it looks so there's still a few left. Sorry 'bout that."

Sueno looked at his handy worked and smiled. "Is more'n Ah kin do! We can go raid tah kitchen after ye move one more and Ah put up a bit more of tah fence! Is not much, but if mah Pa see's tah bad work, maybe he'll come and fix it fer me!"
She giggled at that, it was once sure fire way to get her father to help; do a bad job crafting something and he'd fix it!
"Pa can-na stand shoddy work! Ah dinna like it either, but is da best Ah can do right now!" She cheerfully said to Ainsly He was such a nice person! Maybe after a snack, they could play a game? Since he was doing hard work, they should take a break adn play some after wards!
"We kin leave akin' tah coop till later. Maybe when Pa gets to fixing dis bad fence, Ah can get him to make mah shelter as well!" Foist off as much work on her father while she could that was the ticket! Since he and Madryn were being so mean about not helping she had to do sneaky things to get her way, life was so tough!

Ainsley wasn't used to really being complimented for his work, though Quan did on some occasions, and did his co-workers in the past, so he had to admit that it was nice to genuinely be appreciated by a near-complete stranger. It was generally hard to be distrusting of children, especially not ones that liked anything involved with gardening, so Ainsley's normally guarded nature wasn't in full effect. Sueno seemed pretty crafty for her age, the teen decided, when she mentioned getting her dad to finish up her work.

There was a part of him that disliked that though, so he dropped his hand atop the young Orderite's head and sighed. "It's your garden," he started, ever the advocate of doing one's own work. "So you should do most of the heavy-lifting. Get your dad to help, not to do everything for you." Ainsley sighed then, and look towards Sue's garden.

"Though that stump and the boulders, even I can understand. Still, you'll be more satisfied if you do most of it yourself." It was a lesson that he had to learn through experience, but it was one worth learning. He offered Sue a little smile then. "Besides, you can't really show it off if someone else does all the work."

Sueno pouted up at Ainsley, "But Ah dinna like tah lift tah heavy stuff, nor am Ah any good at it! Pa never teaches me anything but how ah work tah fields. He only ever tries tah show ma big brother how to make things." She waved her hands disgustedly. "So Ah dinna know how tah do most of dis type of thing!" She knew that she should try, but it was hard work! And her work never looked as good as her brother or father's work...
"Gardenin's more fun anyways... why can't Ah git ther's tah help me? Ah can always show of ma garden. Fence's only keep things out, not make things grow. Ah be proud of mah plants instead." She nodded as she worked out some twisted logic to support her point as she grinned up at Ainsley triumphantly.

Bouncing to her feet, she pulled off her gloves and put them in her belt.
"Let's it some snacks! Ah'm parched."
PostPosted: Wed Nov 27, 2013 5:41 am

It didn't seem like Sue would let up on her opinion anytime soon, and Ainsley wasn't all that good at convincing kids about anything anyway, so he shrugged and let out a sigh. There was a chance she'd listen to him later on, so at least he said something about having a good work ethic rather than just let her have her way without question. "Well," he started, just to get a little more word in about the matter. "If it were me, I'd want to show off everything in my garden, including the fences and things. I won't get in the way of how you want to make yours, though." And that was that.

Sue seemed to be on the same wavelength, as she asked to go get snacks already. Looking at his work, the blonde couldn't help but feel just a little bit unproductive, but his stamina versus that of a little girl's, at least in terms of manual labor, were probably very different. "That sounds like a plan," the older Orderite conceded. "I could use a snack, too. That old man you might have seen earlier, he made me skip breakfast. If you have any animals you could sick on him, I'd really appreciate it."

The teen smiled rather innocently, having said that last bit only half-jokingly. He truly did have a small inkling of hope that she had something up her sleeve that would help him get back at Quan for just abandoning him here, even if he did meet a spunky little Orderite in the process.

Sueno looked over her shoulder as they entered the house and gave a long suffering sigh and shook her head. "Boys! Ye always have to show off! Mah garden is tah important part! Fence just has tah be strong enough to keep tah larger animals out." She nodded her head sagely as she entered farm house through the kitchen door.
"Right Ma?" She asked her mother who looked at her quizzically.
"Right what?"
"Dinna matter if Ah make tah fence or not. What matters is tah garden!" Sueno said with a big grin as she went to their ice chest and pulled out a pitcher of lemonade.

Her mother took the pitcher from her and prepared a few drinks and snacks while Sueno turned back to Ainsley.
"Ah have Videe, who's a vlidean... Not sure how ye's sick him on someone though..."
PostPosted: Sat Nov 30, 2013 8:06 pm

She sure was insistent, this young Orderite. Ainsley didn't want to argue though, seeing as he'd probably come off as the immature one for arguing with someone so much younger than him, so he let it all slide. At mention of a vlidean, Ainsley made a face. He recalled his encounter with these creatures back when he was a bit younger than now, and it was not pleasant. At all.

"I got attacked by a pack of vlideans before," he said, wiping the look off of his face so Sue wouldn't get the wrong idea. He didn't necessarily dislike them, but...okay, he didn't like them that much. But he didn't dislike this Videe of hers, since he'd never met it before. Maybe it had a better temperament? "I'm sure you could probably get him to peck at Quan somehow."

The teen smirked at the idea of watching Quan run off into the distance with a bird -- or better, a pack of birds -- pecking at his greying hair. It probably wasn't a good idea to be giving Sue permission to do that kind of thing, but he needed to get back at the guy after all. "You only have the one vlidean right now?"

She giggled at his expression, so he'd been attacked by them! "Ah got lucky. Videe was all alone in his nest and Ah had help from a friend to tame him, otherwise Ah probably been pecked too!" She ate the snacks her mother gave them and nodded. "Yeah, just one right now. Though Ah want more! Gonna try to get another one soon! Maybe end up with a female so Ah can breed dem!" She giggled at the thought as her mother sighed and shook her head before heading out. "Ah'm gonna have a small ranch next to tah farm when Ah'm older. Rancher next to us said he'd help me get it set up! Which is why Ah'm currently helin' out over dere half tah time. Gotta learn so Ah can raise and tame beast!" Sueno waved her hands around excitably. She was so looking forward to being older and getting that ranch. She wanted to raise strange and wierd creatures as well as the normal farm animals!
