Achik did not often find himself in Sauti, but it was certainly interesting when he did! It was the only thing that could rival Jahuar's trees as spires to the sky. One of these days, Achik knew he'd have to see just how high up those mountains he could go with his little wings. Today, though, he wanted to poke around the earthling settlements here for interesting trinkets for his kinfa friend. And food. Of course.
He chimed as he entered the Sauti settlement. It was all well and good that the haze obscured his tawny body, but it also obscured his vision. He paused to get his bearings, hovering over a hut. Some water, too, would be good, noted the sprite, his wooden cup empty.
So he needed a lot of things. Fine then. He'd find them.

Despite the trials of the days before Nuawahn was feeling pretty good. The mountain air of Sauti and the feeling of moving helped him a lot. He supposed that he was so used to travelling wherever he pleased that the nomadic plodding of his family hadn't given him the same feelings in his feet. They had ached, as had his heart. But now both feet and heart were as light as air, and only made better by the settlement looming in the haze. He broke into a skip, crossing into the settlement with some clinking of trinkets.

La'amu followed placidly behind. She was not opposed to her notcalf leaving his family- she didn't care either way- but her bones ached and she hoped he would stop here at this settlement. If he didn't she would, and would force him to do so with her. She huffed, her ear flicking subconciously at the sprite nearby.

Jelta curled into a tight ball in Nuawahns bag, where she was nice and warm and safe. The skipping woke her, but she managed to close her eyes again. She was safe, really safe, here. Among the many strange things the boy had collected...

Luckily for him, Rham had done nothing but meander and wander since the sun rose. Why? Sitting still didn't sit right with him. It made him groan and squirm in the most uncomfortable of ways. A hand pushed blond hair out of his way, sweat off his forehead as he stopped for a moment, peering up at the sun to figure out what time of day it was. Squinting, he realized he didn't know and it didn't really matter because his legs and feet wanted to rest for a moment. Long enough to get something to eat, certainly. His stomach grumbled loudly at the thought of food and Rham laughed to himself.

Yep, time to wander into that settlement and look for a place that would feed him. With his hands behind his back, the seemingly innocent earthling boy did just that way. He wandered in without much trouble and hummed as he looked this way and that. What he was humming, he didn't know. Rham hardly knew the music that played in his head, but it had a nice beat to it and his pace moved to match the beat of his own humming.

Amusing himself? Why yes he was.

Nuawahn heard the sound of humming in the quiet Sauti day and started whistling a tune of his own. He hadn't had breakfast before he had slipped away from the camp, and his stomach was reminding him that not only that, he had no supplies.
Oops!
"Come on, Amma, lets see if we can get something to eat..." he said, looking for a market or something of the sort, somewhere he could find some lunch for a few shiny Jahuar beads.
Meat, vegetables, tubers, and a dusty flour tortilla being roasted on a fire called his name with a scent in the air and he made a beeline towards it.

La'amu, if she understood his issues, would have happily told Nuawahn that he was an idiot. He should have packed, not just slipped out like some theif in the night. She would have told him that that was ill advised anyway.
But La'amu was a capramel, and though she was fine hunger wise, she wanted a nice warm fire to curl up near and not walk for a while. And... it looked like she would.

Achik heard singing-like sounds. Sometimes, he liked sounds like that.
But not always, and right now he wanted them to shut up. He chimed scoldingly at the people who he couldn't see before turning his attention to finding the things he needed. A rainwater collection barrel gave him water to drink and refill his thimble thing, and he could smell food. Well... he wasn't a fan of burnt food, but there was likely some raw stuff there.
He headed towards it on swiftly beating wings.

The sound of whistling caught his attention and Rham looked around, eyes wide with excitement. Maybe someone he could adventure with? Before it stopped, he managed to find the owner of said whistling and he wandered close, the humming only increasing until he was basically beside the other. "It smells like the best thing in the world right here," he commented lightly, stomach growling loudly. Well, there was that. He didn't realize how hungry he was.

The blond boy had a cheeky little grin on his face even as his cheeks flushed a little. "Do you know what most of this is?" He couldn't out right ask which was the best to steal now, could he? This pink haired boy might tell on him and that's not what Rham wanted going for him right now.

Unfortunately for Achik, over the murmur of people in the streets, the chiming couldn't be heard by Rham's ears. His sense of hearing wasn't as sharp as others were.

If Nuawahn's ears could move independently, they would have perked right up. However, only the rest of him could, and did.
"Hello!" he said, stopping his whistling to greet the fellow wind tribesman, "I know! Doesn't it?" he said, smiling cheerfully right back.
They were near the firepit now, where some meat and fish was being smoked to last the small community through the long Sauti winter.
Sure, he knew he shouldn't reduce their stores too much, but he could trade for a bit! Easily! After all, some of the things being cooked would be eaten that night anyway, and they would probably have surplus from the size of that critter on the fire!
"Food, silly!" said Nuawahn, laughing. Oh people, glorious people, "Yummy food. I see meat, and fish, and..." he squinted, "Oooo, theres some tubers too!"
He grabbed Rham's sleeve at the stomach gurgle, answered by his own. "You're hungry too!" he said, delightedly. Partners in hunger meant a shared meal, and he was so for that.
"Come on!" he said, dragging Rham towards the tribesmen at the fire, "Lets get some food!"

Achik had found the firepit too, and was delighted to find that yes, there were all sorts of goodies. But so much smoke! How would he get through that eye-stingy smoke?
The tubers were in the fire, and they were what he was REALLY after, but now that he saw it, the meat that was being smoked looked awfully tempting. Like... meat candy. Not Achik's usual fare- but he could eat it in a pinch if he had to. He could eat just about anything if he had to.
Either way, he needed a distraction so that he could swoop in and get it without getting caught, and he needed a way to not be hurt by the fire and smoke while he was getting it. But how could he do that?
Thankfully the whistling and humming had died down, and he could think as best his little sprite brain could.
Well he could keep the smoke out by closing his eyes and flailing randomly until he found something he could take, and he could fly where the fire couldn't lick him.
But the distraction... what would he do? The sprite looked everywhere, but couldn't figure out how to manage something that would work to distract the twolegs working there. He hid as two more came over- things had just gotten complicated.

"Well it's obvious it's food but.." He let his voice trail off as his stomach rumbled louder and he gave an embarrassed grin. One hand folded over his stomach lightly before he cleared his throat lightly. Then he was tugged on and Rham wasn't one to say no to such an offer! Food was food and it made the world go round! At least in Rham's head. Food meant you could live. Living was good because... well.. you lived. He is a very simple boy, honestly.

"I feel like I haven't eaten in so many days.." He hadn't eaten since yesterday night, but still! His stomach hurt and he just wanted something in his mouth right now to eat. Something delicious and warm and just filling, even if it was bread!

Despite being near a fire pit, his eyes didn't water. He'd been around plenty of fire pits, all set up by him, due to the fact he traveled and winters were cold and bitter. Even if it wasn't winter yet, it got really cold during the nights.

"Days?!" said Nuawahn, shocked, "Lets put an end to that!"
He charged enthusiastically, Rham in tow, to the firepit and right up to the person tending it.
"Hey! Hi! can we have some food please?" he said, grinning his widest smile.

The Wind tribesman tending the fire looked at the strangely dressed boy dragging another boy by the arm.
He chewed a piece of energy root and then looked away, hiding his annoyance. Strangers walking into their settlement and expecting food. They would have a hard winter without strangers draining their resources.
"What would you trade for it?" he said noncommitally.

"Ooo, lots of things! I have beads, carvings, spices, a few small furs..." Nuawahn listed his inventory counting off items on his hand, "... and coin too!"

The man gave him an incredulous look, then turned his gaze to the capramel. "What about that old girl? I'd trade something for her." her meat would be gamy, but the fur would be decent enough.

"Nope!" Nuawahn's face began to fade into a pout, "What about the other things?"

"Kid, We don't need money. We need to survive the winter." said the man, turning back to managing the fire, "And we don't need strangers taking our hard-earned food."

"Oh." Nuawahn said, pouting. La'amu had sat herself down nearby and he went to join her, petting her head.
"Meanie..." he grumbled, low enough for that man to not hear, but for his new friend to possibly catch and, of course, Amma.
"He's got plenty of food! Didn't his mama ever tell him not to be stingy?!"

He laughed at the enthusiastic boy leading him and Rham just grinned wide. He licked at his lips and just followed suit bobbing his head this way and that before looking at the back of the other's head. "I said it feels that way! I ate... I don't remember when, but I ate more than two days ago!"

Well, it didn't matter since Nuawahn was already asking for food. Biting down on his lip, he watched the Wind tribesmen turn around and seem to look them over before talking. All Rham could do was listen to them and then let his face drop when they were, ultimately, denied. With a little sigh, Ram shrugged and looked to his two new friends. "Well, honestly? He's right. Winter is coming and a lot of people get stingy because they want to make sure what they've harvested lasts them the winter.."

It didn't mean he wasn't pouting. "Still.. I wonder if we can buy some things and make bread ourselves!" Not that.. he knew how to make bread, but hey! It seemed like everyone was making it, so why not try?

"Well, he could be nicer about it!" said Nuawahn, sticking his tongue out at the man, still very much a child inside. Then he smiled.
"ooo! Baking bread!" Nuawahn knew as much as Rham did about baking bread, but surely it couldn't be that hard and fresh bread was the best thing ever! Especially if you stuck spices and fruit in!
"I bet he'll be stingy with that too!" he said, his face falling, "Maybe we could just..." Nuawahn hesitated, "Take a little...?" Nuawahn stopped himself. No. Stealing was bad, very bad.
"Or we could offer to help them bake bread, then take a few loafs for ourself!" that was a better option and a lot nicer. Nuawahn was proud of himself for thinking it up.
"Or we could gather it ourselves. That'd be fun!" he wasn't so sure about that, really, but hey! Why not try!

Rham just made a noise at the nicer bit and then laughed. Bread sounded so good, which is why he suggested it. Then the other said something about taking a little and Rham's heart thumped in his chest pretty hard at that and he quickly shook his head.

"S-stealing isn't right," he said in hushed tones. What if someone over heard them and thought they were, indeed, going to steal something? They'd be kicked out! Have their hands chopped off! Or worse... Though what could be worse than having your hands chopped off, Rham didn't know, nor did he want to find out. He swallowed hard and then instantly relaxed when the subject was changed and dropped. Good.

Baking it and then taking a few themselves? "Like, payment for our efforts, right? It'd taste better! Work up an appetite and then eat. I think that's a good idea." He gave the other a sly grin and nudged him in the elbow. "You're a smart one."

Stealing was perfectly okay for Achik, unbound as he was by silly things like earthling morals. He fluttered up behind the man, who he had just heard was stingy, and- sneakily- opened up the man's bag and started fiddling through it with his little hands.
There were shiny things, which Achick could appreciate, and little shells, which made for great trinkets, and- there were some roots! Big ones! Achik wasn't quite sure what to steal first, then he realized- the bag wasn't too heavy!
Achik worked nimbly, using a sharp shell from the bag to cut it from the man's belt and, closing it up, grabbed it with all four hands and tried to tug it away.
He chimed with effort but finally, to the man's startled and astonished eyes, began to carry off the bag. It was a big heavier than Achik had thought, but Achik could manage.

"STOP! THIEF!" the man cried, half incredulous and half angry.

"Yeah... Stealing is bad..." he agreed. Why had he even mentioned it? "Mean too, meaner than Mr. Stingy." Chopping off hands hadn't even registered in Nuawahn's mind, nor did he ever want to think about that horrible situation. Ever. Subject dropped, Nuawahn brightened.
"Yep! Payment! Exactly!" he said, giggling at the nudge, "Thanks! So are you! Oh! Right!" He held out a hand to shake, "I'm Nuawahn! Whats your name" he smiled conspirationally, "Partner?"

The chiming of the sprite and the cries of the man distracted the ever distractable Nuawahn, and he looked up to see- wonder of wonders- a Sprite!
"Look! Look!" he said, standing up abruptly and pointing excitedly, "Its a sprite!" Nuawahn loved sprites- he hadn't seen many, save for that magical time with Tahira long ago back in Jahuar.
It was carrying somethinng... A bag too big for it, and it was trying to fly away!
The young prentice saw the Stingy Man shouting and trying to chase after it, and put two and two together.
"Ahahaha!" Nuawan laughed with delight, "It stole his bag!" Served him right for being so stingy!
