Background: Being born into a Forest Herla family that though that they would never be able to conceive it filled them with much joy in their lives. That joy was Vardina. Vardina was very well cared for and loved by her parents through the years. One year as a mere Yearling the family was on an outing on the border of the forest and mountains. A happy event that they had planned for when Vardina came of age, for her to experience more than just the tall oaks and lush bushes of the forest. Fate did not approve of such happy arrangements as as a landslide had occured, happening before her very eyes watching a few yards ahead of her, her parents becoming enveloped with rock and dirt crushing them almost instantly. Whatever physical injuries she might have obtained that day would have healed. However the pain of her loss. Witnessing the event scarred her forever.
Personality: Vardina herself is timid and weary around other creatures, especially other Herla or any other creature that may threaten her very life. Due to the catastrophic event that took place with her parents, the only way to cope and survive as a yearling into adulthood, she developed a split personality. Countering her normal submissive demeanor another surfaces whenever excessive fear or anger arises. This other personality is the exact opposite of her normal personality, being much more aggressive and brash.

Powers: In light of her split personality arising a slumbering ability awoken in her. Able to command vines or even thorns to burst from the ground and permiate above, entangling and rendering a target immobile for a time. Due to this coming from her front legs, she herself is immobilized for a time having to deploy the vines herself. After the process is finished she rends the vines from her being and can then flee. Doing this also cuts into her energy substantially and forces her to "recharge" through photosynthesis. However. If she does not rend the vines from herself and retracts them back. The energy loss is meager at the very least.

Her back story and personality are fine, but her power needs to be tempered. For her powers to ever grow to such an extent would mean that she would have to do a lot of In-Character practice. Another herla who has a similar ability is Poison Ivy. Even she had to practice her powers in-character and her powers will likely never reach the potency of the comic-book character.
If the vines are extensions of the root-like appendages on her feet, I would imagine that it would also cause a considerable amount of pain for her to rip them off, perhaps even bleeding. And when you think of them in the context of being a part of her like that, it should also take a considerable amount of energy to make them grow. With them being a part of her as they are, I would think they might behave as tentacles might, if you will forgive the comparison. I could easily see her starting with the ability to use them as such, to grab or move small things, perhaps also digging into the ground to draw nutrition and water. With time and practice, she may be able to increase these abilities, but the larger they are the more I would feel that it would cause substantial pain and wounds to rip free of them. It also stands to reason that the larger they are the more energy it would take to move or even lift them--and I would suppose that much speed would be sacrificed by this as well. Reasonably, there would have to be muscle and at very least some sort of tendon structure for her to be able to move them at will, likely some merging of plant and animal structures, but even a plant can go into shock when a substantial piece of them is ripped off, and the wound leaves the plant open to infection.
