"Stay Awhile and Listen."
Some time ago, Selective Students awoke one day to find they were given a deck of odd cards, reflecting a certain part of them. Whether it be their favorite thing or their attitude, the cards came with power to fight against others in a display of patterns and bullets called 'Danmaku'. A strange type of bullet that only harms those who are in combat with one another. Card Holders take the form of a empowered version of themselves, changing their attire and even hair while adding whatever there was. With enhanced strength and speed, they gain the ability to fly as well as freely cast the Danmaku Bullets at will.
Not long after the cards came to be, four special cards were hidden in the decks. They were called the 'Gate Cards'. Legend has it that when all four are brought together, and the gate guardian is defeated, the person shall open the gates to Gensokyo and obtain power unheard of. Ushering in an era of Magic and Fantasy for eternity. A man named Nahumar sought out this power when corrupted by his inner self. He easily took the Winter Gate from Sorina, defeated Byakuren for the Autumn Gate, decimated Yuuka for the Summer Gate and stole the Spring Gate under their noses. With all four in his hand, he rallied up some individuals and gave them 'Boss Numbers' to which they would obtain a slice of this power...
But one individual boldly stepped forth to rally the group to fight back and stop Nahumar. Her name was... Reimu Hakurei.
The fight started from the Grand Highway as they curbed their Envy of Jera. Lifted the spirits of Dimi at the park, Made peace with the Violent Victani trashing the mall and calmed the Anger of Anera who blocked Nahumar. Once they reached Nahumar, the battle between him and Reimu began. Blow and blow as they dodged, grazed and used all they could to win the gate. When Nahumar used his most powerful spellcard, all seemed lost until Reimu tapped into her lineage and saw through the illusion, delivering a swift punch to Nahumar and knock him back.
Shorty after her victory, she was given the choice to leave her world and return to Gensokyo...to which she replied... "Sounds like even more work. Look, just close the gates forever or something. I got school tomorrow." closing the gates for good.
The incident has since been called 'The Seasonal Gate Incident'
Much time has passed since then. Only those involved with the incident remember, The whereabouts of Reimu is all but a mystery now and The once powerful cards are now nothing more but decoration...For now.
A strange new incident is stirring up again. New Heroes have been selected and old veterans return. And the rules have changed.
"Let the Bullets Fly!"
"Eh? EH?!" "Seriously Yukari. Don't you have anything better to do?"

((intro post to get an idea of the start)) The college grounds were filled with much chatter during the lunch hour. Among them sat a lonely woman eating her lunch. The woman had much pain in her past, especially with her mother and father. No one approved of her choice to study into the newest Danmaku Game craze. It was still fairly new with the rules being tuned and regulations to help keep the payers safe. Digital tools to project such designs and movement with an anti-gravity tool. She was far too poor to afford one herself but she didn't mind watching others. Even now, she watches from afar as she sees one popular student fighting someone for fun. With her current image like that of a Monk of the east and staff, her patterns were all joy filled and hard to predict. She easily won and reverted back to her short yellow hair and cheerful aura. "I wish I could be like her." the woman said... Then she heard an odd voice "You want to be popular, huh? Well I can help you with that." the woman looked around, noticing everyone's attention was on the girl who fought. "W-who is speaking?" the woman asked, frightened. The voice replied "Just someone who wants to help. What you lack is cards. It just so happens that I have some with me." as a deck of cards with an odd green and brown color border appeared beside her. She was hesitant to take them. "Take them. I have no need of the cards myself." the voice encouraged. As the woman took them, she tried to ask the voice once more "Who are you?" to which he replied with a laugh "Just call me Al...". From the deck, a strange snake like figure darted up her sleeve and without her knowing, marked her arm with a tattoo. "Then I am Mizery." The woman said. Whoever Al is, he is certainly up to something... The girl who was in a duel earlier sat down to enjoy her meal and talk to the one she dueled for fun. "This one lacks confidence and feels like an outcast. Oh she is perfect."

Nearby, a girl had just returned from a short jog around the school. Always prepared and usually in clothes fit to accommodate for exercise, Maruno had plenty of time to make the most of her time. Circling the expansive school once, she rounded back into the more populated area of the grounds, especially during lunch period. Students could be scene engaging in many activities, ranging from chatting to gaming to participating in the latest sport to be developed in the last few months - Maruno didn't have much opinion on it herself, but it did seem very interesting... And some were even eating lunch!
Maruno slowed her jog a bit as she approached the more densely populated area, the smell of her fellow student's lunches awakening a more primal urge. Her stomach began to growl, and soon she found a place to sit herself, a spot in full view of the ensuring "battles" being held. In her backpack, a small, single-strapped model most typically associated with practitioners of Parkour, was a small container that held her own lunch, which she quickly opened and consumed.
As she ate, Maruno couldn't help but notice a nearby student, a girl who she was certain attended one of her classes - which, she couldn't recall at the moment. But the woman seemed to be talking to herself, and a quick glance revealed there to be no mobile device within view. Finished with her lunch and her container packed away, Maruno decided to intervene, if nothing else than out of friendliness.
"Hey there!" the sandy brunette called out to the girl as she approached her, slinging her backpack onto one shoulder. "You, ah, enjoying the fights? Or game? Or whatever they call it?" She turned her attention to the next set of duelist to enter the "ring". "Sure is a bit crazy, huh? Wouldn't mind trying it myself sometime..." She never was good at initiating small talk. Why couldn't have Yumi gone to the same school...?

Mizery's attention switched pretty fast to pretend that voice was not there. She instead looked to the girl to answer her question. "Spellcard Duels are really fun both for the player and viewer. I have been trying to study more about the game itself and records only state that it was a recent discovery. All reports of the cards appearing say that they just suddenly had cards one day." Mizery enjoyed talking about the game and devoted time to learning about it while also attempting to make it into an official sport. When she tried to pull a book out of her bag, she froze for a second as if seeing something on her left arm...but ignored it and pulled the book out. Inside were pictures to help with the Paragraphs that described them, as well as hand drawn reports.
"There is more to it than just a game. Some rumors came about ancient cards that had been around since as early as the dawn of life. Tombs in Egypt and Chinese scrolls both talked about how some mythical creatures would play a game of cards with them for not only fun but for anything like territory or conflicts...but that is always boring to everyone else." Mizery rambled on. She looked back up to Maruno with a healthy smile "You can try it. The college was lucky enough to get sponsorship from the official company that produces the gear needed for the game. Border Gap Industries I believe it was called. Ran by a woman named Miss Yakumo." as she put that book away, she opened up a little pamphlet with the company logo showing an odd magical circle as all the products were listed...and then it started.
"First you would need to get a card reader which holds all the cards you get- Oh and by the way, the cards seem to work as if like magic when you get an empty deck. The card reader is used to also grant you some kind of odd ability to fly and change your outfit to reflect the cards. From there, you can invest in applications to the visors that come with the reader. Like Health UI, Spell Tracker to track how many cards you have left to use, and so on. There is also this wonderful accessory called the palm draw which materializes one of the spell cards during a duel to your hand. Giving it even more flare." she was a chatterbox nut about this game! Even the voice named Al felt a bit annoyed as he spoke to her "Shut up already! That is not how the cards work! My god, I thought the real games were still on but No...they had to add all these safety restrictions." as she blurred out "Excuse me for liking something!" but she quickly dismissed the voice to the new person "Nothing, i thought you said something."
Hanalli on the other hand noticed the two as she walked towards them with a big smile. "What are you two doing here? Why not enjoy the game over with us?" she offered. Mizery replied "Thanks but this is the perfect distance. I can't see the patterns from that close and part of the fun is seeing such patterns." . Hanalli then felt something odd with the girl. From her previous incident, it felt similar to how Nahumar was corrupted...but she easily dismissed it for now. Not wanting to bring another incident to light.

Nephil Ikari walked around the school grumbling. His birthday recently passed, and he was looking at the birthday present his lone mother sent him. "Of all the things she could have sent me.... It just had to be a deck of Spellcard Duel cards, it's frickin Yugioh all over again." He said. And if that wasn't enough... His mother also sent him a rather interesting card reader. It was just a slot that he could attach to his pants. He decided to humor his curiosity and attach the Reader to his waist line on his school pants. He put the cards back in his pocket. "Maybe I can find somebody on campus who wants to buy them."
He looked up and realized there were a bunch people playing the game and some of them that saw the unique card reader on his waist looked at him expectantly. "Son of a b***h....." He muttered out as he just went to sit down. He decided to look through his deck. One card caught his eye immediately. "Muramasa... The unholy sword of hell?"

Maruno simply smiled as she listened to the girl talk - and boy can she talk! She waited patiently until the girl finished, some time later, only partially noticing that another girl had approached their "little" conversation. Instead, Maruno listened and waited... and waited... for the girl to eventually run out of breath. Once finished, she let out a little breath she too felt she'd been holding in reservation.
"... Wow, you uh... really know your stuff, huh? You're a regular walkin' encyclopedia!" Maruno laughed awkwardly, fighting the urge to check the time. "That all sounds a bit complex... I only know what I've seen on the news, magazines, things like that. Though I can't help but feel I've heard something like this in a cartoon before..." Arms crossed under her bust, Maruno brought a hand to her chin in thought, but quickly dismissed the idea.
"--Ah, join...? Well, if what she said was true, maybe I can..." Maruno finally replied to the cheerful girl - Hanalli, that's right. They had attended high school together! "It looks really interesting... and like it would be a great workout! All those acrobatics and... 'flying'... it'd be like swimming in air, but you don't need to get wet!" Maruno hopped in front of Mizery, leaning down to the sitting girl, "You say the school provides equipment? What about those cards, are those provided as well?"

Mizery nodded to her question as Hanalli followed it up "The cards that are provided have some certain Archetypes. There is offense, defense, support which is hard to describe...." Hanalli looked to Mizery and chuckled nervously. "What was Support about again? Uh..." she didn't know the girl yet."Mizery. And support is a role that focuses on manipulation of the bullets rather than straight on attacks, like the infamous Sakuya's time alteration cards." Hanalli nodded "Thanks Mizery." which in turn she turned back to Maruno.
"And there are still more types being discovered as well. We can ask one of the people playing to let you borrow one." Hanalli happily offered as she guided her to the crowd of people, introducing Maruno to them.
Mizery would of loved to follow, but she had something to think about. She overlooked the cards that now showed some names. The voice rang in her head once more "My cards are the most powerful in the world. What you hold is a deck made for a king. Now, it's time to find a subtitle target to test it out." but Mizery declined "No. I need the reader-" then she was interrupted once more as the voice spoke "That reader does nothing but prevent anyone from losing the cards. The original rules were made years ago...but there are other 'Rules' that can be initiated." her left hand suddenly moved on it's own as it picked up a card with two kings holding their blades diagonally to meet one another in a cross like shape. Mizery didn't want to shout but she felt frightened.
"This is a rule card. Kings Rule. When you declare a Kings Rule, all opponents that you defeat from the first duel and onward add to your power and cards. The limit of five spellcards is lifted and losing players forfeit all their cards at once. With such power...who wouldn't use this?" the card indeed looked intimidating but Mizery looked around before heading off somewhere where no one was watching to talk more about this card. She was scared of what was brought onto her. "What are you talking about? I only wanted to play the game." she noticed the card slowly changed, showing one dead king and the living king holding two swords. The voice laughed "You will play a game. A game that will show everyone that you are the best. Now, the problem is to initiate this rule, we need to find someone who was apart of the 'Seasonal Gate Incident'." now he was talking nonsense. "There is no such thing as what you just said. Nothing like that happened. Now shut up." she said angrily at her own hand like a nutcase. "So this girl has some voice behind her...She will make an excellent ruler." Mizery took control of her arm and hid the cards once more. "I do not want to talk about this right now! As far as I am aware, you are not going to initiate this rule at all." she stated, walking around to avoid the group playing the game.
Only when Maruno was just getting into things, Hanalli looked back at the empty bench. Feeling a sense of dread approaching. "Maruno? Was there anything weird going on with that Mizery girl?" she couldn't say anything about Nahumar's possession over power, as no one would even remember such an event besides them. Hanalli held onto the small necklace around her neck, thinking about what Byakuren was doing now that they went their own ways.

Nephil continued looking through his cards when two more caught his eye. "Alastor... The Celestial lightning sword. Bonds between Vampires and Nephilims...." He said. He focused more on the other card. "This card will only work if you are fighting alongside a Dueler with a Scarlet Mansion type deck. Scarlet Mansion?" He asked. He blinked realizing he was beginning to have second thoughts about selling his deck. "Maybe this won't be so bad after all...." He said.

"You mean, borrow a deck-- ah!" Joining Hanalli, Maruno swiftly followed after the bright girl after waving goodbye to Mizery
Once "initiated" into the group of Duelists, Maruno had acquired her own card reader, one that simply attached to her wrist. One of the members then passed off a deck to her. An extra, or so they had claimed. Looking through the cards, it was obviously based around the concept of the mythological Vampire, with abilities to command darkness, fire, and the like. There were also a number of cards the seemed associated with stars and the night sky, and Maruno began to recognize a few constellations, being somewhat of an astrology buff herself. Despite that, it all seemed very nerdy to her, and Maruno couldn't help but stifle a laugh at them, though she reached one card that stood out from the rest and piqued her interest. The card depicted a black sword, surrounded by shadow and seemingly "melting" into the equally black background of the card. Emblazoned, the title read "Umbra"--
"Ah?" Maruno looked up from her cards, to the shorter blonde girl beside her. "Oh, Mizery? Well, she's always been a bit weird since I've known her, usually by herself or just being antisocial..." Her attention dvidied, she resumed looking through the deck with only half interest. "Though... well, I thought I saw her talking to herself a little bit ago. But she might have had a hands-free device or something!"
"So, anyway, I have everything I need now, right?" Overly-enthusiastic, Maruno looked around and over Hanalli, quickly spotting a boy sitting nearby who was examining a deck of his own. She took a few paces and stamped her foot on the bench Nephil sat on, crossing her arms under her bust. "Hey, you're a duelist too, right? I'm a newbie but let's go!" She exclaimed very proudly, likely a bit too sure of herself.

Nephil blinked when some girl stomped on the bench he was sitting on and asked him if he was Duelist and that she wanted to Duel. Nephil simply gave her a deadpan stare. "No... Just no...." He said as he put the cards in his pocket and pulled his shirt down to hide the Card reader. "I'm not a duelist... I... collect them... Yeah that's it, I collect them." He lied through his teeth.

"See? You got the hang of things." Hanalli encouraged the two as she quietly slipped away from the group without being noticed. She looked on the other side of the school to see if Mizery was there and sure enough she saw her. She could approach her and ask about what was wrong but that was not her style. She waved "Hey there Mizery. Why not join us on the other side?" asking with a big smile. Mizery looked around then at Hanalli. "No thanks. I do not want to play right now. I don't have the equipment." even though she knew they would provide, the girl acted strange. Hanalli soon grabbed her left wrist lightly and attempted to drag her along.
Mizery tried to pull away. "I rather fight in private." Mizery started to remember that the possibility of having more power could unlock her interest in the history of these cards. Al was talking about being the best. With her parents already neglecting her decisions, she felt this could be a chance to prove them wrong. "Well we can fight right here. You don't need the devise that much. It's more of a placebo than anything." Hanalli took out one of her cards and looked at Mizery. Her left hand took a mind of it's own and drew one card as well, imitating the fight. Five cards each to use and they were off. Unlike with the devise, the image Hanalli had looked more real than before. No see through or projection. Mizery however changed dramatically... A green glove on her left hand and brown on her right. Her outfit was made up of a White and Black colored priestess outfit. A small design of stars on the skirt as a crescent moon formed over the top part. What was odd about it, was the energy from her hand could easily be seen by Hanalli.
"I knew it. Something has latched onto you. It happened with Nahumar before-" "OH! So you must be Hanalli! It's hard to tell it was you...I mean last time I saw you, your body took a beating from his 'Incubo Spark' into the ground." who just talked?! Mizey looked at her hand with shock. "Al?" the hand then mimicked like a person's hand gestures "Yes it's me. Now then, I think it's time to initiate Kings Rule." Like that, the two were locked into a battle. The Kings Rule was in effect and the previous restriction of spell cards were removed. Instead of taking a card, the winner can now take all their cards at once. Effectively 'beheading' their chance to fight once more. It only applied for Mizery right now. "There can only be one, Joy Master...and I will be the king to take that throne!"

Maruno, too, blinked for a moment, her proud stance deflating slightly. Embarrassed, she went on, "W-Well, if you're a collector, then you probably have some interesting cards to show off, am I right? I bet you have some you've always wanted to try out!" She lifted a closed fist, pointing to the wrist-mounted card reader with a grin. "And since I'm a newbie, I'd be easy pickings in a fight! I bet even a collector has moves and strategies from watching duels... Unless you're afraid of being beaten by a girl~"
Her confidence somewhat restored, Maruno removed her foot from the bench and took a few steps past Nephil, waving him onwards. "So c'mon, show me what'cha got! Everyone else already has a dueling partner anyway!" A quick glance around would tell that all the other participants were otherwise engaged, and Hanalli had mysteriously disappeared...

Nephil was about to tell the girl to buzz off when she said it. "I AM NOT AFRAID!" He roared catching everyone's attention. He looked around and sighed. "Let's just get this over with..." He said in a depressed tone as he walked past Maruno. (Writers block)

Though the little commotion of their duel would stir some wandering eyes, they seem to do well to conceal their fight. Hanalli used her patterns as best as she could, still unable to understand if it was Mizery or the one controlling her that is in the position right now. Mizery's arms created a longsword, swinging it to create the shock wave pattern at Hanalli. Sle easily dodged it but the bullet turned around and struck her from behind. Hanalli raised her first spellcard "Joy Sign: Waves of the Nile!" the bullets spread in a straight line around Hanalli, then started to bend as if waves of a river. Bullets emanated from her and floated slowly around the area like bubbles. Though they would also pop halfway during travel to spill out tiny faster bullets inside. Mizery dodged them easily one by one. The last bullet being deflected by the sword.
"Far too easy" the voice said. It held up a card of it's own as he cried out "Endgame: No King Rules Forever!" as the sudden area was enveloped in a bright light, a ring of knights surround Hanalli. Their swords pointed upward to the light above before slowly folding it down infront of them, forming a small hole in the center above Hanalli. She attempted to leave, but there were chains on her ankles. And soon, that voice called out... "Let it be known and seen! The Kings Rule is now in effect! With the defeat of this character...I, Poialen, the bringer and consumer of pride itself shall become the King of the new world!" the light shined brighter and brighter as Hanalli attempted to remove the chains on her legs. The match ended early with Hanalli's defeat at a large column of light enveloped her body within that ring of swords. As Mizery's body floated down, the same left arm raised itself up to Hanalli's body as it spoke once more. "As the kings rule state, the winner of the first match will become to King. All who fall before me shall lose their cards and powers-" but Mizery's right hand grabbed her left wrist in retaliation. "Stop it this instant! I don't want to take anything from anyone!" but the voice laughed back as the hand turned around to look at her. What followed was a short little argument. "But Mizery, you want people to accept you...right? Well I am here to give you the confidence to prove you are worth being around...and what better worth than being a queen of the realm we will seek out?" "Not if it means to harm people. This is not what I wanted." "You say you do not want it but the very emotion you carry is doubt and uncertainty about your own abilities. I can help you. I can give you the pride you seek and the pride you want." "I only wanted to play a fun sport!" The voice laughed at her as the hand he controlled started to mimic it. "There is NOTHING fun when it comes to Danmaku! For Many years, mortal men and beasts of many kinds sought a way to settle disputes over one thing or another. That method was Danmaku. The game back then required an affinity to magic for a mortal to fight beasts on equal levels. Yet in one fell moment, all traces seemed lost. Now, the game is being used by mortals who have no basic understanding of just what they are playing!" The hand started to morph and with it, cause Mizery to shriek in pain as if the bones in her arm were moving and re-arranging. the voice continued to speak as her arm disfigured into a monstrosity of itself. "Those who inherited their cards from unknown sources are possible descendants from long ago. All the others are ridiculous copies that are only abominations. In turn, the cards reflect them...and in your case, you had no cards!" Mizery collapsed on her knees. Hanalli had no time to stick around as she immediately ran and hide to keep her cards. Though the rule was still in effect. She pulled up a phone and attempted to dial someone to talk to...
"I don't want this at all!" Mizery cried. She examined the hand that had bone like blades sticking out with the green snake design exposed to her. "You could of ignored my cards to begin with...and you blindly picked them up. If you want to still talk and move, I suggest you work with me instead of against. I can control your body at any point mind you..." the voice said as the now sobbing Mizery submitted. "Fine...I'll do it. Just please give me my arm back." she pleaded. "Sorry, I can't. Otherwise you die with me." he replied. Shutting Mizery up for good as an image appeared in her head. For some unknown reason, Mizery followed what was given to her and away from the school.
"This is bad. That thing is on the lose again and possibly finding another way to get into that place. Oh why didn't i get Reimu's Number?" ---------------
The crowd around the courtyard was a sight to behold for everyone. A teacher with beautiful blonde hair and a figure to drive any man mad- ( "Yukari just...please. Don't give any mental images in the reader's heads..." "Oh fine! Sucking out all the fun of my intro already..." ) A woman with blonde hair and a small umbrella passed the group. Sneaking by to take a peak at everyone player. Her smile was both lighthearted but curious as to how they all enjoyed this game. Her gaze were upon Maruno and Nephil. Waiting for the winner and loser but also curious as to what made them obtain 'Player' Cards.

"Yeah, that's the spirit!" Maruno pumped her fist in the air before stripping off her backpack, setting it against a random bench and taking the "stage" where their fight would be held. Standing to one side of the field, she put her hands on her hips, assuming that the young boy had done the same. The athelete looked around for Hanalli, unsure of what to do next, but quickly discovered that she had disappeared... Maruno shrugged, and simply drew a card, unknowingly initiating the duel.
Maruno's body and hair flashed with a bright light, before inverting into a void of black. The shape of her hair and clothes began to morph, the former becoming much longer and the latter enveloping her in a cloak of darkness, hiding further changes underneath; A formal waistcoat and skintight leggings, decorated with golden heels. As the darkness left her hair, it had taken a pale blonde hue, her skin turning stark white, and eyes lit with fire.
"Hey.... this is pretty cool! In fact, this feels great!" Maruno spoke, flexing an arm now outside of the cloak. The card she held materialized into a sword, which she pulled from a void, the black and empty blade like a tear in reality. "You ready, boy~?"
