User ImageHe'd told himself to be prepared for disappointment.

The nova trader had told him to follow the setting sun west to an outflow of water in the desert where he'd seen a grey-skinned solara Seeker in the desert some days earlier. Assuming the stallion, whoever he was, was still in the area, he'd be sure to return--Dreadwing's reconnaissance of the area to find the aquifer had shown that other than the Anuyidan'Danayi's oasis, there wasn't another source of water here for quite some ways. There seemed to be another oasis within riding distance, but that one was settled by other stars as well, and Cybertronians, as a rule, tended not to associate with people from outside the culture. Or at least, Decepticons did not. Why should they? They were all inferior. Every Decepticon knew that their people were bound for glory and greatness, and that all other stars were obstacles or tools.

Well, that was the theory, anyway. Dreadwing couldn't possibly think of his new friend Sooraya like that. He wanted to get to know her better. To be friends with her. But he was on a quest. He didn't have time to make friends. He had to find his brother--or rather, find out what had happened to his brother. Badr Basim said he'd seen a stallion who looked like him a few days ago; he kept telling himself it couldn't possibly be Skyquake, but a part of him was fervently praying it was. Please, Primus, reunite me with my brother!

He stood by the aquifer and waited as the sun set, his eyes scanning the sky.

User ImageOne last circle around the desert in the fading light. Starscream flew as fast as he could to get his survey over with.

"What a waste of time" He grumbled in his signature screechy voice.

There was nothing in this accursed desert, no sign of energon, no sign of other decepticons, Starscream had spent the last few days surveying it for signs of decepticon activity, or activity being with technology all he'd found was an oasis of primitive creatures who used puny swords. They'd never be able to catch him even if some of them did have wings He is the best flyer in the entire decepicon armada if he did say so himself.

Ugh He hated this planet. Everything about it, it was teeming with organic life what he wouldn't give to feel hard cybertronian metal beneath his hooves again.

Starscream made his way back to the Aquifer he had used as his point of reference. In the fading light of the shadow dreadwing was in Starscream was unaware of the other cybertronian presence landing lightly for such a heavy solara in the open area at the edge of the aquifer. He did fly the best didn't he? a grin crossed his face as he began recalling multitudes of battles fought and won(He tended not to remember the ones lost or blew up in his face). He wanted to return home, Curse this planet, a wave of anger spread through him.

"Ugh Why can't I get off this accursed Rock," He screeched in anger "I hate this planet!"

Even in the fading light of the day, Dreadwing had found it too warm to stand in direct sunlight. Cybertronians were, in general, larger than the average star, and Seekers were larger still. All that extra mass, combined with armor? Yes, Dreadwing was feeling far too warm in this desert, thank you very much. His wings had been spread out to dissipate heat all day, and he was beginning to feel the price--his wing webs were feeling pained, as if they'd been burned. Curse this weather! So yes, he was standing in the shade, hoping to cool off and spare his poor, sore wings the pain of more sunlight. Thus it was that he was out of sight for any new arrivals. New arrivals like the Air Commander of the Decepticon forces.

Yes, this sinking, gut-wrenching feeling was exactly why he'd been telling himself to prepare for disappointment. Well, he might not be Skyquake, but Starscream was Dreadwing's commander (technically speaking) and if he was on the planet, he could also be a lead. His wings still fanned out--since they hurt even more when he tried to fold them--he stepped out of the shadows. "Commander Starscream," he rumbled, "I am surprised to meet you here, so far away from anything of significance."

Starscream's wings perked upright suddenly wary and tense, am old seeker habit. hearing movement behind him, How dare someone sneak up on him! His first instinct to leap into the air and blast whatever was behind him(Or Run away if it was too strong his need for self preservation was second to none), however the voice that spoke was not unfamiliar to him. And Luckily it wasn't the voice of an enemy... yet.

That voice was the last thing he wanted to hear, Dreadwing, who incidentally was probably looking for his brother Skyquake. The Tone of the voice indicated Dreadwing didn't know Starscream's own involvement in Skyquake's death. Skyquake was rather defiant, honor bound and stubborn. Had Skyquake listened to him as he ordered him to in place of the mighty Megatron he may have survived to reunite with his brother. instead of becoming a undead terrorcon scrapheap. Skyquake roaming forever in some nether realm on earth somewhere. he had no need for Soldiers who wouldn't listen to him. Even undead ones.

Screamer relaxing some, straightened out turning to face the much larger solara. At least Dreadwing remembered where he sat in the ranks. Screamer grinned standing tall, even so still not as tall as the great oaf Dreadwing. the cybertronian cleared his throat "Yes, those accursed autobots marooned me here on this pathetic planet." Screamer grumbled that was believable certainly. raising his brow a thought came to him, if dreadwing was here, he must have a way off this rock, he hadn't been trapped here the same way. He could use that to get off this planet! And rejoin the war! Or at least have some cybertronian equipment at his disposal to conquer this world as pathetic as it was.

"I don't suppose you have a wrecker head with you." he added, Dreadwing had been on a mission hunting the wreckers last he'd heard far from Skyquake who was on a sleeper mission. Dreadwing no doubt abandoned his mission in search of news about his brother. He'd have to be careful.

It was a running joke in the Autobot army that Starscream was a fool and that Megatron was an idiot for keeping him. Dreadwing knew better--as all Seekers did. Before the War, Starscream had been their leader, their advocate, the brightest and most powerful symbol of the grace, intelligence, independence, and ambition of the Vosian people. No one who ever met him could forget him. And there was a reason he had a position of leadership (besides just the aforementioned hoards of flying warriors at his command): he always seemed to know how to keep a handle on the situation. As in this case, where he instantly put the larger Seeker on the defensive.

The Wreckers. Er. Right.

Dreadwing had had Springer himself in his sights when he felt Skyquake's spark go out. To embark on this lengthy mission in the first place he'd had to abandon his post, his assignment, his troops, and his opportunity. The triple-changer was still out there, but Dreadwing had had to leave him be to chase down Skyquake's fate. It crossed his mind, not for the first time, that Megatron would be very, very angry if when he found out.

But it also crossed his mind, again, not for the first time, that he didn't care all that much. Skyquake was more important than Springer to Dreadwing. "No, I am afraid that mission is not yet complete," he said. He straightened his throat and twitched his sunburnt wings. "I abandoned my mission when I felt my brother's spark snuffed out. I need to know how he died and what the ultimate fate of his body was."

Faliure! Dreadwing had abandoned his mission? Well wasn't that a surprise Scream raised his brow. Wouldn't that be something to tell megatron once he got back, the mighty dreadwing abandoned his mission. Not that it was a complete surprise, dreadwing and skyquake swore they had the same spark.

Ah Speaking of! Skyquake's fate... That was not his fault! if Skyquake had belived him in the first place, Who survives an explosion like that?! Ok Megatron by a thread, but at the time he had been telling the truth. No one ever believed Megatron to die? Megatron was like the rest of them for Primus's sake he could die!

Screamer Faced Dreadwing with a stern intimidating look, not that to the big guy he was intimidating "Megatron will hear about this!" The seeker screeched a threat granted megatron wasn't around but screamer would now log that bit of information for future blackmailing use. He was deadwing's Superior officer after all. But yet he was left him in this predicament. How to explain Skyquake's demise.

Starscream thought, he could always stretch the truth a little... especially now that megatron had returned and scream began his little act "Megatron Ordered Skyquake woken from his sleep, unfortunately the Optimus Prime and the autobots were there waiting... Skyquake fought Valiantly but Alas they eventually won, and the Decepticons all felt great loss When the mighty Skyquake fell... I was following a transmission Soundwave had wished me to check, I did not hear about Skyquake until after." It was a shame really, it would have been much better if he had survived and served Starscream instead of Megatron. But He had to keep this up, to make dreadwing believe.

"As soon as I heard I rushed back, We were unable to Retrieve Skyquake's body," Starscream pretended like he cared, lowering his head and wings in sympathy before raising them again in anger "Curse Optimus!" He shouted to the sky before turning back to dreadwing "he wouldn't allow it he cut down many of our forces during our attempt to retrieve it!"

That quirking eyebrow, that damned quirking eyebrow! Starscream was a scoundrel, and no mistake. Dreadwing hated that about him, hated how well the smaller Seeker could get under his skin, hated how he was still beholden to Starscream...oh, he respected the Air Commander, that wasn't the issue. It was the fact that Starscream was, well...Starscream was a traitor. He gave other Seekers a bad name. He himself was loyal. Starscream was the sort of star you wanted as your politician, but not as your commander. He was liable to blame you when he gave a bad order. Better than groundpounding commanders who don't know how to properly use a Seeker in combat. They never understand where we're best needed! And Starscream understood their culture--alright, alright, there was a lot about Starscream to recommend him, but the bottom point was that Dreadwing didn't trust or even like him, and that raised eyebrow was the ultimate symbol of his distrust. Especially since the subject at hand was his dead brother.

Disrespectful, dishonorable... "You may tell Lord Megatron that when I have found my brother's grave and paid my respects to him I will return to my previous objective. I have not abandoned my mission, merely...taken a leave of absence while my emotions make concentration and completion of my duties difficult."

He listened to Starscream's tale with heavy heart. So, Skyquake had been awoken by Megatron's orders and the Autobots had been waiting for him. Optimus Prime. Dreadwing hated Optimus Prime. He'd never met the Autobot leader, but he didn't need to--that one final syllable was all you needed to know about him. Optimus Prime was a Prime, the latest in a long lineage of leaders who'd done nothing but screw over the Cybertronian people. Under their rule, the diverse cultural heritage of the children of Primus had been homogenized, all sense of identity had been lost. Apartheids had been established, racism endorse, distrust fostered amongst all cities, all neighborhoods, and their neighbors. Worst of all, he had the gall to come off as decent. He claimed to be making a better Cybertron. He claimed to act with honor and forgiveness.

Wait--Dreadwing frowned. Say what he would about Optimus--he just had--but Optimus's reputation for honor...well, to be honest, Prime did come across as honorable. No Prime could be, but Dreadwing hadn't yet heard about any situation in which Optimus had acted in a way he would personally found against the codes of ethics. Well, besides constantly asking him and his brother to switch sides. He'd done that countless times throughout the war--called out across the battlefield to the twins, begging them to betray their commander and join his ranks. It had made many a star under Dreadwing's command suspicious of him, and had brought his loyalty into question multiple times. Other than that, Optimus was a fair fellow. Would Optimus Prime have kept the Decepticons from retrieving the body of their fallen?

Pit, would any Decepticon have bothered to retrieve Skyquake's body? Dreadwing was a Decepticon because...well, because Skyquake was, and because the two of them hated the Primes and everything they represented. Yes, it was time Cybertron was united. Yes, Cybertron should have as large an empire as they once had. No, Cybertron should not be under a Prime's rule. Megatron was the right leader! Sure, he had made a few decisions that made the twins uncomfortable, especially Dreadwing, but...well, he gave a slag about the people! Even if his care only extended to their lives. Dreadwing and Skyquake had made it a habit, early in the war, to retrieve the bodies of their comrades when they'd fallen, to prevent looting. At first, they'd been allowed to; but later on, they'd been explicitly ordered to leave the bodies behind.

It bothered him, also, that Megatron had not defended his brother. Sure, Megatron expected his troops to defend themselves, but why awaken a Sleeper if you weren't around to do it? Why would he have done it remotely? If he hadn't awoken Skyquake remotely, why hadn't Skyquake been defended? Why had he faced the enemy alone? Perhaps they'd sent the troops out to fetch his brother, but surely their leader respected Skyquake enough to send out at least one officer? Whom had they sent? And why hadn't Starscream mentioned it? Even if it was someone he hated, like Shockwave or Soundwave, he would have mentioned it, even if just to gloat...

There was something wrong here. But the grief and the rage overflowed and clouded his reasoning. All of those doubts arose later. For now... "Thank you," he rumbled, "for attempting to recover my brother's body. I will return when I have found it." With that, and without waiting for a response, he launched himself into the air on aching wings.

((Well, that's that, I guess.))
