Quote: Moon Hunter PRINCESS ISLAND General Information Maintaining a superior defense is the pride of the Moon Division, defending even at the expense of attacking. However, this can be hard, especially for trainees who just got new magic weapons full of glowing and powers. Thus the Princess Island. At the center of the island sits a princess who will do absolutely nothing to protect herself, and it's up to you to build defenses that will withstand shadowling attacks so she she doesn't die in a horribly realistic manner.
There's four main paths for shadowling's to travel through, and you have 3 types of building materials to create your defenses from: straw bales, wood, and bricks. The sturdier the material, the sturdier the barrier, but the fewer you can build in the allotted time. After a set amount of time, the princess will crush a pumpkin pill, attracting varying amounts of lurking shadowlings. You get to watch helplessly from the observation station, without getting to attack yourself.
These creature are extremely weak and ill formed, coming up against a solid defense they will disperse, but in turn they also weaken said defense. When a defense goes down, they go right to the princess and attack her. Should she survive the wave, you get to go back down, rebuild, and do it again.
If you fail: the princess has died, horribly, and you've wasted a lot of time on this only to look fairly incapable. All things considered? Most pleasant course to fail.
If you win: peen points and bragging rights go to those with the healthiest princess and lasted through the most attack waves. If you choose to go beyond 5 rounds, switch the enemy dice roll to 4 d20s.
Mechanics Your princess has 20 hp First, roll the strength of you defense, using the dice for whichever building type you choose.
Brick: 4 d12 Wood: 8 d6 Hay bales: 12 d4
The order of the die determine the HP for each barrier location. For example, with bricks, rolling 5/6/8/1, would mean that path 1 has 5 HP, path 2 has 6 HP and so on. With a wood roll of 3/3/3/1/2/5/5/2, the first 2 dice would equal the amount of the first path. Brick would be the least math-y of the building materials (you lazy asses.) Roll 4 d12 for the attacking forces. Once again the order of the dice correspond with the path being affected. Then do the math to determine the status of your defenses and princess. Example: My defenses are 5/6/8/10 The attackers are 3/7/3/8
The result defenses are 2/-1/5/2 Negative numbers are taken off the princesses HP, leaving her at 19 HP. Go back and rebuild your defenses in the same manner as before, you'll be building on top of old defenses so you add the new defense HP to the remaining defense HP. Negative numbers = 0 HP for the defense, not negative HP. Minimum rounds to complete the course is 3
Bonus Mechanics Their defense expertise allows them to build slightly sturdier barriers. This applies to all paths that start at 0 hp. They do not stack. So if you are re-building on a barrier that lasted from an existing round, this bonus does not apply, as it is already still in effect.
Trainees: 0 hp bonus Moon Trainees: +1 hp bonus to each path Hunters: +1 hp to each path Moon Hunters: + 2 hp to each path

Chel stared at the machine, long and hard.
Maybe if she just ... Where did you put the quarter in??

Chel wasn't the only one confused as Finn came to stand beside her. "Hey, Jumpsuit." He greeted her, while squinting at the machine and tilting his head slowly to the side. "Sooooooooo......defense training. Fun stuff. You ever do this before?" He was kind of hoping she had, because he had no clue what he was supposed to be doing, and thought possibly he could just...copy her. Maybe he should have been paying more attention when it was explained before he got here. Really, all he remembered was something about a Princess and he had gone all Adventure Time in his head, wondering if he should wear his awesome hat just for the occasion. Spoiler: He hadn't.

Chel was startled to hear someone behind her. She'd thought she'd entered the room when it was empty but-
"Nope. Not a clue. I can't even figure out how to turn it on." It was the truth, at least. Chel hadn't paid attention to the annoying lab aide either. All she'd heard was "simulator" and that sounded close to a video game, so she took it.
Turning back to the machine, she tried flipping a few knobs. "Any ideas?"

Damnit, she was as useless in this situation as he was! Finn pursed his lips together slightly and had a quick look over the machine she was currently messing around with, before reaching forward and firmly pressing a few random buttons himself like that would help matters in the slightest. "No. Weren't you listening to the instructor?" He asked, with a hint of irritation in his voice, as though this was now somehow all her fault that he didn't have any idea how to proceed, despite the fact that he was the one in moon division and probably should have known. He jabbed at a few more buttons and turned a couple of dials and, yes, even gave the machine a slight kick to see if that would get it going.

Chelsea frowned. "Well ... weren't you!?" He was a moon jeez, this was practically his walk of life!
She finally flipped a switch and the whole thing whirred to life. On screen was a tiny island, with a little princess sitting in the center. Hm. Was that supposed to mean something? Had she started it? "See? Ha. Knew it all along. You can begin your gratitude offerings now."
Wait a second ... wasn't that ...
Chel squinted at the screen. Then over to Finn. Then back to the screen. Then she burst out laughing.

Finn just gave her his usual dead eyed smile. "Obviously not." Before moving over to a machine next to hers, deciding that if he couldn't get hers to work, then there was probably something defective about it and he should try another one. The second he stepped away from her he heard the machine coming alive and he glanced over his shoulder to see what she had done, mimicking to motion after first jabbing at yet more buttons on his own. "Wow you flicked a ******** power switch I'm so happy for you." He muttered under his breath, watching his own screen as it blinked to life, before getting distracted by her laughter. "What?" he asked with a frown, leaning back towards her machines screen. Wait....what the hell??? Meanwhile Finn's princess looked like a fireman in the prime of his life, perfectly fitted in a stunning pink gown that showed off all kinds of muscles Finn could never hope to achieve.

Chel stuck her tongue out at Finn. "You and Jack seriously are peas in a pod." She looked back at the screen and burst out laughing once more. She glanced over at Finn's screen and frowned. "Aww you got a super mega hot guy."
She snickered to herself and began building her defenses. Brick was the strongest material right? So ...Status Wave: .5 Path 1 HP: 10 Path 2 HP: 10 Path 3 HP: 8 Path 4 HP: 6 Princess HP: 20/20

Chel was quite proud of her first two walls. They were shiny and spiffy and awesome. The last two she didn't quite have time to finish, but the way she saw it, the first two walls would tide her over.
When the baddies came, she was terrified to see how quickly they dismantled all her hard work. She'd slaved away at those walls ... All her hard work ...
She sighed and looked over at Finn's screen. "This thing's ********' hard."Status Wave: 1 Path 1 HP: 0 Path 2 HP: 0 Path 3 HP: 5 Path 4 HP: 4 Princess HP: 20/20

Finn realized a bit belatedly that maybe he was being a bit more testy then necessary, and turned to offer Chel a large smile, though no matter how big or warm that smile ever got, it never did anything to change the cold hard look of his eyes. "I'll take that as a compliment. And you know, being able to turn things on isn't such a bad skill to have." He gave her a wink with that little statement, before turning back to his machine. "Yes a real dreamboat, if you're into that overly chiseled and strong jaw kind of look I suppose. Really, I think yours is much more handsome." He flashed her another smile, though it was still definitely lacking. Okay, to work now. He began laying out his wooden barrier, deciding that with it he might be able to move a little more quickly as it didn't take as much strength to carry around, and thus might be able to build a more sturdy fortification. He, like Chel, managed to do better with his first couple of blockades then with the last two, but time was running short so he hurriedly threw those last two up before.... ....Oh look here came the shadowlings. Crap. Finn could only watch in disgust as everything he built up was not only completely destroyed, but as the little monsters ravaged at his princess. "Shiiiiiiit." He slammed the palm of his hand down on the machine, letting out a long hiss of breath. Status Wave: 1 Path 1 HP: 0 Path 2 HP: 0 Path 3 HP: 0 Path 4 HP: 1 Princess HP: 16/20

Chel snorted out a laugh at Finn's joke. "You know, I think you're right. The one on my screen is a fine a** ********>," she responded with a wink.
She realized she'd been staring at his screen so long that she'd forgotten to throw up her own defenses. "Oh s**t s**t uhhh-"
Not having much time left, she just threw bricks here and there. Her second path got a decent sized amount. Everywhere else was really lacking. Well hopefully this wouldn't end badly ...

The shadowlings came and this time they came hard. They bashed down two of her walls in a matter of seconds, running in to scratch and slash at her princess.
She tried picking up some of the bricks to throw at the shadowlings, but the game just gave her an error message and a red outline. Okay so attacking shadowlings was out of the question. Dang.
"Eugh ouch. That looks harsh. Sorry dude. Promise it won't happen in a real battle." Chel actually couldn't promise that at all because she was a sun, but she would do her best at least. "Damn rights he is." He offered her a wide grin in return before getting on with things, his moon beginning to sour as things went rapidly downhill. Of course, it didn't help at all that Chel was a little distracting, her words having him turn his head just enough to glance at her screen. "Hey now don't go letting me die, darling" He said, before getting back to it with his. With a little more speed then last time he worked on each barricade, trying to spread out his time for each a little more evenly. He still fell behind when it came to his very last, however, and he basically just threw together something that looked....super pathetic. Oh well. The shadowlings rampaged forward once more, and Finn was gratified to see that his defenses seemed to be holding up quite a bit better. Enough so that he glanced back to Chel with a smirk. "Well, at least we know in a real battle it'll more likely be me watching your a** and not the other way around." And good thing too, because look at him go now! ...Until, of course, the shadowlings got to his last, incredibly shotty defense structure. They dismantled it within seconds and were attacking the princess relentlessly. "No! s**t. Fuuuck!" He began jamming on buttons like that might do something to slow them down, but of course, did nothing at all. Status Wave: 1.5 Path 1 HP: 1 Path 2 HP: 4 Path 3 HP: 6 Path 4 HP: 0 Princess HP: 9/20
