This was mind meltingly boring... they were supposed to be heading home, back to the Astral City, but instead of getting there quickly like Karayan hoped for they were still waiting. It would seem as though a storm had slowed the ship down. He was told that he needed to be patient but patience was the very last thing that he felt himself capable of at the moment. He wanted to get home, wanted to go through whatever ritual was awaiting him, wanted to become a part of the Gaili clan! Before that happened though they need this accursed ship to show up.
"Oh come on..." He muttered to himself, letting his head drop back, starring up at the sky for a moment, watching the clouds as they floated by, his purple eyes reflecting the utter boredom he was feeling. After a while of cloud watching he set to searching the docks themselves, hoping to find something, anything, to do... when he spotted something that looked kinda fun. There was a mass of crates stacked up, waiting to be loaded on the same ship he wanted to be on. He followed them up, up, up from the where they sat to where the very top one was located... and he gave a bit of a grin, "Ohhh... man, you know what would be fun?" He asked of himself, then said, "Well, I probably shouldn't. Looks fun though. Eh, who would care? Nobody that matters." Once he was done chatting with himself about the situation he hopped up off the bench was sitting on and approached the boxes.
The Dovaa boy glanced from side to side, the decorations on his horns clinking lightly before he started the climb. At least with the boxes, unlike with trees, he shouldn't be able to fall to his doom. If anything he would just be able to see the ship first when it arrived! The moment he saw it he could run over to where his Grannie was waiting for him and they could get on the ship together. Until then he'd enjoy the high perch!

Rowan staggered underneath the weight of the boxes and bags she was carrying. It had been an eventful day of shopping, but she was anxious to return home and get back to her work. She had only just begun her apprenticeship and so far her tasks were menial - but she understood the importance of learning the fundamentals. The boat, however, appeared to be late and the young Oblivionite had no interest in simply standing around holding onto the day's purchases while she waited.
"Aunt" Rowan said, peering up at the tall and imposing woman who stood beside her. The woman looked down and raised an eyebrow. Rowan could tell that her aunt Corwen was also irritated at the lateness of the ship, though likely for different reasons. "May I explore a little?" She asked deferentially. Corwen nodded, seemingly uninterested in her niece's doings. Rowan dropped the packages at her aunt's feet and wove her way through the crowd.
There were so many people, of all different sorts. Rowan was aware of the war in a vague sort of way - it wasn't as if the fighting or losses were real to her in any way. At least, not yet. And she understood that many of the different races hated one another. And yet, there was something absolutely fascinating about the sheer diversity at the docks. Her eager eyes sought to catch every detail, and as she drank in her surroundings she noticed a boy - he had horns so he must be a Dovaa - climbing a pile of crates.
It seemed like a clever idea to Rowan, who made the decision that a higher vantage point would be more beneficial. She made her way over to the pile of crates and, as daintily as was possible, climbed upwards until she reached the Dovaa. Glancing over at him, Rowan gave an easy, self-assured smile. "I bet you're not supposed to be up here." She said, aiming for a tone of nonchalance.

"I bet I'm not either but I can't say that will... stop... huh." He seemed to trail off his at the end of his statement when he turned to the one that had joined him up on the top of the crates, realizing that it wasn't just anyone, it was someone that he'd never seen before, as well as being from a clan he'd never really had a lot of contact with. Sure, there was half Oblivionite woman, but this was far different if you asked him. He starred for a long, drawn out moment at the girl that was there next to him before he looked out over the ocean once more, "I guess if I get in trouble I won't be alone." She had climbed up to join him despite her betting he wasn't supposed to be up here after all. If they got yelled at she could share the brunt of the yelling and it would make it easier on them both.
Leaning forward he rested his hands on his knees, fingers tapping against them, "Waiting on the ships too? Ugh... they are sooo slow today... I am supposed to be doing something important." He said, givng the distance clouds, ones that remained dark and imposing even now, a bit of a look, "Let's just hope those clouds don't come here or nobody will be going anywhere." If his journey home was delayed anymore he might just keel over and die from all of the waiting and then where would he be?
Turning to look at the girl again he said, "You look pretty neat, never seen a full blood Oblivionite before... probably since where I come from there are only Dovaa and I only left recently." Of course there would be plenty that he hadn't seen yet being raised where he was raised but still, he felt that this was an important sort of meeting since he felt that one didn't see the darker, more intimidating race as often as they might see the other ones. This was a lucky turn of events and the only thing that helped to make up for the fact that he was trapped on this dock for Abronaxus knew how much longer. Hopefully not all that much longer but until the ship came at least he could amuse himself by chatting with someone who came from a race that was very new to him.

Rowan gazed across the sea as the Dovaa boy spoke, looking for any sort of telltale smudge on the horizon and nodding when he asked if she was also waiting for a ship. She got the impression that he was feeling quite impatient, moreso than she was herself. Though when he started talking about Oblivionites and Dovaa, she turned her full attention back to him.
"You're the first Dovaa I've really met." She said, smiling. "I've seen some before, but they were all grown-up and weren't exactly interested in conversing with someone like me." That comment was paired with a rather self-deprecating grin. Although Rowan thought rather highly of herself and her intelligence, her exposure to the larger world revealed that as far as others were concerned, she was not of much import. "I live in Soudul, and there are only Oblivionites there. But my aunt takes me out sometimes, and then I get to see other places with different kinds of people." Her eyes scanned the crowd below them. "What kind of important thing are you supposed to be doing?" While it couldn't possibly be as important as Rowan's work (well, the work she would start once she made it through her apprenticeship), she was still curious to find out what kind of priorities a race like the Dovaa had.

"Not interested, huh? Seems kinda dumb to me, you seem cool enought to me." He didn't get it, then again he wasn't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed either. He knew to a degree that there was a war going on, that two sides didn't like each other, that the Dovaa were more neutral until some more recent incidents that seemed to be trying to draw them in too. He understood it but he didn't get it. He'd met an Orderite before and now he was meeting an Oblivionite and they both seemed nice enough, even if Madryn Col was a bit of a stuffy sort. Giving a shrug he said, "I like you so that is all that matters right now." As though him liking her was such a grandiose thing... though in his mind maybe it was. Of course given he tended to give everyone the benefit of the doubt that might not be saying all that much.
Glancing over at the girl he asked in a curious manner, "What is Soudul like? I've never been there. Only home, Serenia for a bit, and then Eowyn way too much for my liking..." He stuck his tongue out at the thought before adding, "Sand invades everything and you're stuck wearing shoes here, it's pretty awful if you ask me. More the shoes things then anything... going barefoot is far more fun." An opinion he felt was important enough to share with everyone who might listen.
When asked about what important thing he was supposed to be doing his lips turned up into a huge grin, "I am going to become a big, powerful, and awesome Gaili!" He said, throwing his hands up over head to add to the dramatic effect of the declaration. He just couldn't wait to finally become a part of the clan that he'd picked! He was going to be the most amazing and heroic Gaili the world ever known!

"Soudul is... dark." Rowan replied thoughtfully. "We have forests and beaches and cities, and everything is very dark. Nothing like here." She surveyed the people and the port below them. "I'm fairly certain that if I could see colors, there would be a lot more of them here than at home. I live in Obsidian city, it's very beautiful. The buildings are very elaborate, and the people dress wonderfully." She smiled faintly. Below her, Rowan could spot her aunt engaging in conversation with another Oblivionite woman who was waiting for the ship back to Soudul. Her aunt would never deign to converse with an Orderite, and she wasn't certain whether or not the woman would be interested in speaking with a Dovaa. Rowan considered herself more open minded, however. At least, she tried to be. "A Gaili?" She asked, trying to recall what she knew about the Dovaa. "Do you get to pick your own clan, or are you born into one?"

"Dark." He repeated, wondering if that was all that there was. Just dark? Huh... it still made him curious though, to know that everything, the forests, beaches, and cities all of them, they were all dark. He starred for a moment before he gave a slow nod of his head, "I see... huh." She continued on, talking about how the city she lived in was beautiful with elaborate buildings and that the people were dressed nice. He gave a smile and said, "Sounds like where I am from, it's a really pretty place too, with lots of colorful people. Can you not see colors because of how your eye... holes... are?" He stumbled on his words since it wasn't exactly like she had eyes, just strange holes. It was odd to him but he couldn't help but to be interested by it regardless.
When asked about his clan he couldn't help but to perk up visibly, looking quite excited, "I think maybe it depends on the family, I know some are more strict about everyone being the same clan, but with ours everyone is different. Grannie things that we should go out into the world, experience things, learn from those experiences, and that it will help us to figure out which clan we should be a part of. I am going to be Gaili, I met a man from that clan once and he was a giant! I read that the dragons are pretty huge too. I hope by becoming a part of that clan I get to be huge too! I want be a big and strong! Then Madryn Col, he's a stuffy friend of mine, he will have to be impressed!" He had a feeling if he could just impress that guy then surely he would have to be doing something right. Nothing seemed to impress him after all.
Giving a smile he rested his hands on his lap once more, having been flailing them about while he spoke, "What about you? What do Oblivionites do for coming of age?" He asked in a curious manner, wondering if she would share such information. He was just curious what she might be planning to become when she was older. A warrior perhaps? A mage? An Oblivionite Hero just as he wanted to be a Dovaa one?

Rowan shook her head at his question about her sight. "We don't see color. We see..." She sort of waved her hands about, as if trying to express the odd nature of Oblivionite vision. "It's sort of like reflections, I guess." She said. "But there is not any color. I can tell light from dark, though." She spoke almost wistfully, though she tried to keep her tone matter-of-fact. Rowan had always secretly wished that she could see in color. She had read about it in books and it sounded positively wonderful. She perked back up when he began to speak of the Gaili dragons, and she looked him up and down appreciatively. He certainly could grow to be quite big if he wanted to. Rowan approved of his ambition, it was something they had in common. She appreciated people who knew what they wanted and intended to go out and get it. She couldn't stand meek or submissive individuals. "Oblivionites do different things." She shrugged a little. "The ones who want to be warriors choose a weapon, which bonds itself to them. I'm not going to be a warrior, though." She said, pride in her voice. "The women of my family have spent generations working on discovering a grand secret, and I'm going to continue that work. I just know I'll be the one to finally crack the recipe." She lowered her voice a little, as if imparting information she shouldn't be. "We don't have souls, you know. We don't go anywhere after we die. So I'm going to find a way to be immortal."

No colors. The mere thought of it was one that ruffled Karayan's proverbial feathers, likely because he was so used to how the Dovaa were. Looking over them was like looking over a sea of rainbows, all one bright color or another due to the clan they picked. Not that he would exactly be bright and bold himself since the Gaili were made up of a lot of browns and golds but still, even being without that, it must be hard. He was pretty sure he would go nuts without being able to see colors... but then again he supposed that she also grew up like that so she must be used to seeing only in dark and light.
"It must be odd then, hearing others talk about colors and things being colorful when you can't see them, huh? Should I be more careful about that or does it not bother you?" He wouldn't want to keep chatting on about something that she couldn't even see if it bugged her after all. Last thing he wanted to do was insult the first Oblivionite he ever met and cause them to want to go to war with him in particular. That wouldn't be any fun at all and would most likely just make his life a whole hell of a lot more difficult.
As she started to explain to him what her people did, picking weapons that would bond to them which sounded rather cool, she then dropped the bombshell that she wasn't going to be a warrior. He blinked a couple times then repeated, "Not going to be a warrior?" That was odd, the idea of someone not wanting to be a warrior, what was she going to be then? At first glance she didn't exactly strike him as the sort that would sit home and be a baker or something... but it seemed that she had rather grandious plans, ones that involved her becoming immortal. He couldn't help but to stare, his eyes going quite wide, before he gave a bright smile and clapped her on the back, "I bet you will do it! You seem pretty determined and confident, so why not you?" He didn't really know her but upon first impression he bet she could do it.
"If you ever need help let me know. I don't know anything about what the women in your family know, of course, but I do mind helping where I can! Which... is... well, mostly, you know, the physical stuff..." He wasn't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed, a few too many incidents of falling out of trees, but he'd still help where he could, "If you need me to slay any dragons or beasts for your research let me know, that much I can do." Even if a lot of his winning at that had been luck thus far...

Rowan shook her head, smiling at his concern. "No, it's okay. You can talk about colors. It's sort of odd, since I have no point of reference. But some Oblivionites become powerful enough that they grow an extra eye, and then they can see in color." She grinned. "I'll definitely be one of them. I'm determined about a lot of things." She gazed out over the horizon, the grin still on her face. "Hey, look! I think I see the ships! It shouldn't be much longer now." She said, turning back to look at her companion. "I think it would be grand to watch you hunt a dragon." She said. "And sometimes the things I have to find are very difficult to get to. It would be good to have a strong warrior around. Maybe we could go treasure hunting together! My aunt has told me there is a lot to be discovered in the world, if you'll only look for it."

Karayan was starring again, mouth slightly agape, before he asked, "An extra eye?! Really? Oh man... if you get one of those you really have to show me, alright? that is so cool!" He knew that he shouldn't be so excited over something that he wouldn't ever get himself but he just couldn't help it. How could anyone not find the idea of growing an extra eye as being the coolest thing in the history of ever? Yeah, that was definitely something that he had to see he thought to himself in a now rather determined manner. Leaning in a bit closer to her he said, "Here, let me get a good look at you so I will recall exactly how you look now, then when you get the extra eye I can compare." He said said, trying to commit her face to memory before asking, "Where do you go the extra eye at?" He was assuming it was her face but what if he was wrong? Oops.
Drawing back he turned to look over toward the water, pleased to see that the sails of the ships were in sight, "Oh! Hey, look at that, you're right! Seems that we will both be off pretty soon, huh?" It was a shame that they would have to part ways so soon but he couldn't wait to get home, he wanted so badly to become a Gaili after all. They would really need to meet up again soon though. He rather enjoyed hanging out with her after all though he was sure Madryn Col would have a fit if he knew that Karayan was chatting up an Oblivionite girl. Ah well, he would just refrain from telling the guy, that way he wouldn't set to yelling about Karayan's poor choices again.
"I think it would be fun to go adventuring with you. We will have to do that some time soon for sure." He was all for going to explore with her, fight dragons with her, and various other fun stuff if it meant helping her with her goal. No reason not to, not like she seemed like a bad guy or anything. He'd heard some darker rumors about these people but she seemed nice enough. Maybe the rumors were false he thought to himself, glad he'd met someone like this since it helped him to figure that out. While he was sure there must be some scary ones amongst the race, just as there were amongst the Dovaa, he didn't feel that his new friend was one of those scary ones.
