The Kalona was not leaving. He seemed content to stand around surveying the area. This was not what she had hoped would happen. When she had seem him wandering into the clearing from her spot under the willow, she had assumed he was just passing through. But no, the blood-stained, leathery-winged stallion was still standing in the middle of the clearing, where he had stopped what seemed like hours ago.
Lullaby shivered against the trunk of the willow in fear. This was how her life was going to end. Caught and tortured by a bloody and sadistic Kalona, she'd never see her sister again. She'd die without friends and without love. How utterly tragic.
"I've got to get out of here," she whispered.

Jin-Soo cautiously navigated the dark terrain, his body slipping easily within the shadows despite his large size. The Kalona herd's appearance and subsequent damage had been sudden, and he'd yet to fully take in the results of their destruction. Everything they did stood against the values he'd grown to uphold. He was a pacifist at heart, and the senseless violence vexed him him ways greater than words could express. However, he knew now that not all fighting was despicable, and that sometimes it was even needed. That time was now.
A Kalona stood in the clearing before him, as still and unmoving as a statue. He'd have thought it were a morbid gargoyle, formed as a warning, had he not followed the demonic stallion from the forest where he and his partner made short work of a scouting party. Jin had gotten lucky and was able to dispatch the first when the two had first split up, and now the second remained, unaware. Wordlessly, he shot out from his hiding spot, his path taking him straight to the Kalona.
Their fight was short and quick; both dealt blows but, in the end, with no trees to hinder him, the Kalona managed to lift off and escape, leaving Jin breathing hard in the center of the clearing.

Just as she was about to move from her spot, the fight started. It seemed that the large stallion appeared out of no where. He and the Kalona traded blows until the beast gave up and flew away.
Lullaby shook. She was saved! Or... or was she? Sure, the stallion dispatched the Kalona... but was he also a danger to her? Would it be easier to just sneak away, rather than risk her life trusting another? She knew where easily trusting someone could get you. Hurt. Alone. Dead.
No. She was getting out of here. She'd find some secluded place, far away to hide until all this nonsense was over. She'd find her sister, if she was still alive, and they'd be together. Yeah, that's what she was going to do.
Carefully rising on shaky legs, Lullaby maneuvered herself around the trunk of the willow. Flicking her eyes to the stallion in the middle of the clearing, she slowly ducked under one of the large draping branches and emerged from the cover of the tree.
Ever so slowly, she backed away, until suddenly -
SNAP! Her hoof cracked apart a brittle, poorly-placed branch.
She froze.

If Jin was upset to find his opponent escape, he showed no sign of it. He neither growled nor stamped his hoof, but merely kept watch to ensure the Kalona did not circle back before focusing on the shallow wounds that peppered his frame. A Kalona was endowed with natural weapons, but luckily for him, his opponent had been too startled to make efficient use of them.
Snap.
Jin turned round, adrenaline making him quick despite his size. Golden eyes flashed, searching for the source of the sound. He soon found it set close to a willow tree, its form largely hidden save for the striking blaze marking its nose and the flowers upon its hair.
“Who goes there?” he asked. Caution tinged his question with demand, but otherwise he offered no threat, for he stayed in place rather than approach the other.

She couldn't run. The stallion would no doubt catch her.
"Please," she pleaded to the stranger, moving slowly out into the open. "Please just... let me... let me go,"
Her legs trembled and knocked together. "M-My name is Lullaby. I'm just... trying to find my sister. I was hiding from that... beast. I... I just want to find my sister,"
She hoped that this stranger was forgiving. He was against the Kalona, from what she glimpsed of the fight at least. Perhaps he was on her side.

It did not take long for his vision to adjust, and Jin's eyes widened when he realized it was a mare, with seemingly no kalona-like traits about her. He knew looks were not everything and that a kalona could be on the Kawani's side as much as a native could work with the intruding herd. In the end, however, worry won over prudence – the decision helped in no small part by her frightened demeanor.
"I-I'm not part of the kalona herd; I won't hurt you," he said, an abashed tone replacing his warning one when he realized what he'd done. He used to be against violence, and now here he was, purposely seeking it out. Years ago, he would not have even thought to give chase a kalona. What had happened to him?
"Your sister? Are you lost?"
