It wasn't often that Scott Erlea went to any of the high end retailers, especially when it came to buying movies, but he had finally decided to use his birthday money. Granted, it was a few months late, but he had spent too much time mulling over the possibilities of what to use it for, going back and forth between using the money to buy some of the movies he's always wanted, or saving it for college later, or maybe using it for his siblings, or a friend. Well, if he had a friend. All he had really was Isha, and he couldn't imagine what to get for him that he didn't already have.
What finally made the B-Movie and Bug enthusiast venture to Best Buy to reward himself was his recent promotion, and figuring that the only way he'd get a reward would be if he gave it to himself, he made his way into the store with little guilt on spending this cash for himself. He'd just walk in, grab a movie, and walk out, no big deal.
He stepped into the store for the first time in what felt like years, and his green eyes went wide with awe and wonder. He was used to a smaller store, a little rinky-dink dollar rental that barely stayed open with this kind of economy, but this? This was a little overwhelming, and he could almost feel himself wanting to hyperventilate at the thought of becoming lost or, worse, gluttonous, over a store like this. He could buy so many things!
He likely looked like a dope, just standing there, eyes wide and mouth gaped open like a child that just walked in on Willy Wonka's candy garden, though if the sales associate started to sing to him, he might have booked it out the door. He had seen enough Willy Wonka and bad B movies to know where that would go...andbeblue Scott's all like 'halp, what do?'

Scott's reaction was, essentially, the opposite of what Veer saw when he'd first stepped into the store. Where Scott saw 'high end', where he saw a world of electronics, where he saw value, Veer had needed to grit his teeth and get past the overpriced crap to submit his resume. And now he was working there. Whoop-di-doo. He happened to be at the end of a video game lane, leaning [they weren't supposed to lean, and he'd already been scolded three times for doing it] against a rack and turning a sour look around the store as he did. Amber eyes settled on Scott, taking in his wonderment for a brief moment, before deciding to profit on his excitement -- "You lost?" It was joking, a little mocking, but cheerfully so. A 'just joshing' edge to his tone.

Scott was used to being mocked. It was just something that came with the territory of being thrown into the awkward crowd by others and Scott had long since accepted that, for whatever reason or another, he would be the butt of someone's joke. Somedays he took it to heart, but other days he could take it with a matter of stride and play along, it all depended on what kind of day he was having.
And given the overwhelming amazement he felt within him, it was hard for him to feel an ounce of distress from the employee's gesture, whether he was truly joking with him or just being an a*****e. No, he was far too excited by the high end electronics around him to care either way, and a lot of that must have shown in his dumbfounded smile.
"Yeah, I'm not used to being around so much... I usually go to the smaller places and there's no where NEAR as many things there as their are here. How do you not get lost in here?"
So many things to see and touch... a lot which, even with his birthday money, he couldn't dream of affording, but that did nothing to quell his excitement in the least.

Veer turned in place as Scott spoke, and tried to see it the way the kid did: cavernous, expensive, packed with gems that he couldn't find anywhere else. For a moment, he struggled -- really, genuinely struggled -- to get the picture in his mind. To find something amazing. Instead, all he could think was yeah there's a lot here, but it's all s**t. He didn't say it out loud. "Uh. Well, I work here." It was said with a grin, teeth white in his face. Someday, Veer would snap and say exactly what he was thinking. And he'd be fired. But until that day, he tried to play nice. "Also, there's signs on top of the aisles..." But that thought trailed off as he blinked down at Scott. "What are you looking for?"

Even in his overwhelming excitement, Scott could tell that the sales associate wasn't as thrilled to be there as he was, and that was certainly a good way of putting a dampener on his own excitement. He wasn't sure if it had something to do with having to be at work, the environment, or maybe it was just his enthusiasm that Veer didn't like, but when it came to Scott, it was best to assume that he had done something to deserve it.
His smile faded to a more polite gesture and his voice softened a bit, and he could not fight the impulsive tick that caused him to tug at his coat sleeves, hiding his hands behind his back in a pathetic attempt to hide it. "Looking for movies, that's all. Like... old school horror movies, or those really goofy ones that appear on the SyFy channel. Is there a category just for those, or would they be spread out throughout the movie section?"
Which was... he glanced around, looking for said signs and finally spotting them. No wonder this sales associate probably hated him- he looked, and felt, like a complete idiot. He wanted to slink away with his tail between his legs and hope that he would not kill over from embarrassment now... could one die from embarrassment nowadays?
"But I can help myself, if... that's okay with you. Thanks..."

Veer raised an eyebrow, slowly, looking around the store -- and caught the look of a disapproving manager, who already thought there was a bit too much slacking off, too many cigarette breaks where no cigarettes were smoked, early disappearances during close. He suppressed a sigh and focused on Scott, digging for his biggest smile. "I can show you." And now, at least, he really did hate the kid. Nothing personal, but -- "We have a sales bin for sh...for movies of that caliber, you can dig through it, take a handful home." He'd lead the way, slowly, hands sliding into his pockets.

Scott hadn't once noticed the manager, and Veer's shift in demeanor, as slight or as forced it may have been, didn't go unnoticed to the mustasched youth. He didn't openly question him, however, and he was grateful that Veer was willing to show him. Whether he judged him harshly for his personal tastes or not (though Scott highly suspected that he was going to say something incredibly inappropriate but had managed to catch himself before letting it slip), Scott could feel some of his initial excitement returning.
"You can just point me in that direction if you'd like so that I'm out of your hair," Scott said, seeing Veer's stance and still figuring himself to be the cause of it. No need to pester the guy any further when he obviously wasn't wanted, right?
Except his curiosity got the better of him, and Scott couldn't stop himself from asking, "Do you have any recommendations? Like, if you really liked a movie or something enough to sell it, what would that movie be?"

"Most of the sh...stuff I watch isn't licensed in the United States, so it's pretty much impossible to buy it legally even if you wanted to." It was a non-answer, but hidden within was the truth of the matter: Veer wouldn't waste a dime buying a movie that could be downloaded off of the piratebay, or from his IRC channel. It was about as diplomatic as he could manage. He crooked a finger to lead Scott to the sales bin, though: a tub about four feet across and more than waist high filled with movies, each with a big %% off sticker stuck on its front. Veer raised his eyebrows, pointing into it. "I imagine you can find some gems in here. Climb in if you want, have a field day of it." Almost immediately, his hand went over his nametag. "Name's Mike, glad to help." Slowly he started to back away, to leave Scott to it. But watching. He wanted to see if, unsupervised, the kid would get into trouble. And if poor, sucker Mike would get into trouble as well.

Scott was no fool and he knew exactly what the employee was talking about, and he couldn't help but scowl at the thought of it. He wasn't lucky to be part of a privileged family and thus had little money to spare, but he wasn't keen on the idea of pirating, even if he really, really wanted to see something. If he could not afford it, then he had no business owning it. To know that he was talking to someone who took freely from other's hard work definitely didn't help matters. But Scott tried to keep this to himself, even if his face betrayed him.
Nevertheless, he followed the sales associate to the bin and couldn't help but think of one of those ball pits at McDonalds that he threw his younger siblings in. He almost wanted to jump in himself as though it were a swimming pool, but he refrained from the urge, not wanting to imagine just how much trouble he'd get into for even trying. Though even the sales associate suggested it, and it was almost enough for him to ignore the fact that he was simply trying to get rid of him. Almost.
"Yeah, thanks for you help, Mike," Scott said, looking at his nameplate and noticing that his hand was covering it. Something about this behavior was suspicious, but he hadn't once thought to look at the tag earlier and there was no way for him to force his hand down without getting himself booted out of the store. Still, there were other ways of getting him in trouble, if the desire lingered within him still after he found what he wanted. He turned his attention to the sea of movies and got around to shifting through them, not once noticing how 'Mike' backed away and left him to his own devices. He grumbled allowed, grabbing movie after movie and setting them aside in a more organized manner so that he wouldn't find himself grabbing the same damn movie again. "This Mike fellow better hope I find something really awesome in here to forget this… oh, Giant Squid vs Mega Shark…"and be blue We can actually start wrapping this up if you'd like. He's likely going to be too into the movies to remember to report Mike. XD

That left Veer on his own, shaking his head and looking up around them -- no on watching, and it would be oh so easy to plant a hand in the middle of Scott's back and shove him into the pile. But. Being that he was one of two non white guys working in the shop, and he did have that distinctive red hair, he resisted the urge. Instead he just continued to back away, slowly, until he was out of sight and earshot of the fascinated kid, and safe from any further questions or requests. With his luck, Scott would get up front and thank Mike profusely for his help, and the credit would get passed a long. Whatever. He didn't care anyway.

For all of his suspicions about the employee Mike not wanting to help him or thinking ill of him, Scott was completely clueless to the possibility of being pushed into the pool of movies, and how could he not be when he kept finding one weird movie after another? Yes, nothing quelled his anger quite like being surrounded by movies, as overpriced and as stupid as the plots maybe be. Whatever beef this Mike fellow had, it was simply gone from his mind for now, and perhaps it was for the best.
All Scott wanted was to watch a few movies and use the money he was given for his birthday, though with the selection he was finding, the growing hassle would eventually be having to chose which ones to bring home. Part of him considered asking for Mike's advice, but a quick glance over his shoulder confirmed that the employee had left, regardless if he felt his task was done.
"Hm... maybe I should just invest in Amazon.com or something... these big department stores aren't what they claim to be. At all."
