Pharos had been so busy lately she'd barely had time to patrol at all. Her birthday had come and gone, she'd had second semester assessments and a research paper as well as work at 17 Waverly. When she got home she was mostly exhausted so she didn't often get to go out patrolling or really do anything in the city.

Since the carnival, her mother was insistent on her being home for the weekend which meant even less time for he night time duties, not that she felt much up to it after the house of mirrors and walking out of it to bodies, broken rides, crying children and chaos everywhere. It was far more scarring that the surrounding event, in her opinion.

Still Pharos was a bound and determined spirit, who wouldn't all that keep her down. With things slowing down just before Halloween and before thanksgiving before they got slammed with work before the winter break, she was finally out and about again.

She sported a new look, one gained at the carnival, her weapon now a staff which made her rather giddy, she felt so new. Now walked her staff in hand, looking very much the colorful Shepard and trying not to allow herself to be distracted from the task at hand.

Merlinite needed to reassess his approaches to battles and to life in general, here in the Negaverse. Nothing he was doing seemed to really be working, and he was not sure if it was because he was actually bad at this whole thing, or if he was just not approaching things correctly. Maybe he hadn't found his niche, like he thought he had.

Though he really did like his job at the moment. Getting information was challenging but it was interesting, and he liked taking the brute tactic with it. Breaking bones would be fantastic, if he got good enough at it. He wanted to be elite, he wanted to be efficient and trusted. What did he have to do to get more power?

He just had to keep working at it, he supposed. Something would prove him worthy, somehow.

He felt the aura of a knight nearby, something on the stronger side. He frowned and moved to follow it, his instincts telling him to be careful but his sheer will telling him that it would be a great chance to prove himself if he took out someone more powerful than he was.

"Looking for lost lambs, are you?" He said, when he saw the White Mooner in the distance. He approached confidently, as if he knew something she did not know, though that was not actually true. He had no advantage over her, and she had the rank on him.

Pharos felt the signature coming towards her and froze momentarily. It wasn't a strong signature, but she knew sometimes that meant nothing. She remembered Schorl and knew even as a squire the woman might seriously injure her. Still she didn't like the idea of turning tail and running. No this magic had been given to her for a reason and she intended to use it for good.

Lost in her own contemplation he walked right up on her startling her slightly, but also making her laugh because she definitely looked like a shepard of sort. "No, no lambs for me," she said with a grin, "but in another place and another time maybe."

She felt a little a ease because he didn't seem hostile at the moment and he'd made a little joke. She thought the encounter possibly wouldn't be a bad one. "What brings you my way," she said softly.

"Oh, you know. Just patrolling for some energy. Wondering if you might have some to spare, or a nice starseed."

He grinned at her, and made it hard to see if it was a joke or not. He had to pick his methods, and he opted to play this one casually. Who said everything needed to go to a battle directly? He was a member of the information team, after all.

"Doing my job, like you're doing yours, I imagine. The name's Merlinite, fairly new to the Negaverse, but I'm catching on to some of this stuff. What's your name?"

He was not too good at sounding like a legitimately nice guy, at least not without practice. He had only just decided to try this tactic, and he couldn't help but grin as he spoke, and look like a liar. Usually he was really good at getting what he wanted and playing the nice guy role, but sometimes his excitement got the better of him and gave him away. He would do better he next time, and the next time, until he had it down to a practiced art.

At the moment, though, he looked every bit like the Negaverse villain he was.

Pharos frowned at his words, even if he grinned, she didn't find it very funny at all. "That was a bad joke," she said softly, "as well as being something you shouldn't do. I don't think you would appreciate very much if you were on the other end of that. Someone draining you or plucking your starseed out of your body."

Her frown only deepened and she felt really sad for him that he would be okay to do such a job. "I'm Pharos. I'm not new to all this, been doing it for nearly 2 years now. What stuff are you catching onto exactly? It seems pretty straight forward to me. Your side needs to be saved from the darkness and my side is going to do that. Good truimphant over evil and all that."

She leaned on her staff slightly looking to him, "maybe its harder for your side because you can't see clearly with all the negativity around you."

Merlinite shrugged his shoulders leisurely. Clearly, she was not buying his act, and really, he didn't blame her. He'd get better at it when he was not so pleased with himself for the good idea, of course! He laughed at her lightly and hoped up on a nearby bench, strolling across the top of it with his improved balance.

Being super powered had some cool perks. It made him look awesome, after all.

"You're one of those that feel like you're good and we're bad, and you have to fix us because we're broken, eh? Have you ever considered that you're not your full, real self, because you're missing a part of your starseed? You can't have order without chaos, can you? If you block out the chaos, you're just one half of who I am. Maybe it's up to us to make you all whole again, so you can see that we're not bad guys after all."

He grinned at her, making it up as he went along. He could not care less, even if he tried, what they thought or how they treated him. He knew who he was, and what he served.

"Or maybe I am evil. Whatever, right? As long as we're doing what he like to do." He called his baton to his hand, watching the other with keen interest. So battles were still more his speed than anything else. What could he say? Maybe this time he would win.

She frowned at him and his logic, it sounded jumbled to her. She never said anything about him being broken or needing fixing, but she guess everyone interperted things differently. If that's what he thought being saved from the darkness than so be it.

"No one ever said there's no chaos in me, every has good in them and bad, which is why we have to be taught right from wrong. If you parents teach you, the world teaches you hurting people is wrong, but you suddenly start thinking maybe it is okay, you have a problem. All this stuff its got to be balanced, yeah you might want to do something you shouldn't, but the good in you makes sure you don't."

She couldn't help, but to sigh at his next conclusion, shaking her head and missing him summon his weapon. She didn't even realize she had a battle on her hand. "See Merlinite, listen to yourself. What you just said, do you really feel that way?"

"You just assume we all hurt people, or that we're okay with what everyone else on our team is doing. That's prejudice, and that's not very nice of you. For a White Mooner, anyway. Seems like a bit of a double standard, to be honest."

Not a great argument for someone holding a weapon in his hand, but then, he never said he was one of those that didn't like to hurt people. He enjoyed it quite a lot, in fact.

"I dunno how I feel, really. But I'm figuring it out as I go along. I'm not hating myself for thinking about smacking you across the face with my baton right now, for example, which is nice to know."

He gave her a wicked grin before he charged her, closing the distance between them as fast as he could. He swung his baton at her as hard as he could, hoping that if he could start the fight with one good hit he could keep the advantage.

Pharos wasn't trying to sound prejudice or to be unkind. She honestly wasn't assumin those things, or at least she didn't think she was. It was more like her stating how things were, but he didn't seem to think that way. She sighed with an apology on her lips, but instead her jaw dropped when he said he was thinking about smacking her in the face for apparently no real reason. Or at least she didn't think she gave him a reason.

Either way she grabbed her staff with both hands and thrust it forward to block the incoming blow, before trying to dogde around him. She really wished they didn't have to fight, it just seemed so unnecessary, but they were fighting a war.

"You shouldn't be talking about double standards or me assuming things when you intend to prove me right. I don't want to fight," she said firmly. She knew she would have to, but she was the heroine in this and she felt she should try to make him see reason. Not only that, she actually didn't want to fight, she didn't want to hurt him.

"That's the thing! I don't mind my double standards. I'm not worried about things like that." He didn't care one way or the other what the 'good guys' thought of him, so long as his superiors were impressed and wanted to keep him around, keep him moving up. What did he need to care about anything else, anyway?

He needed to keep his focus. He had a new goal and tactic in mind and he would pursue it, after this last fight. Probably. He was an addict when it came to battles like this, but still.

It was all in his will. He just needed to keep himself from getting caught up in brawls. Easy, when he put his mind to it! He was just not putting his mind to it right now. Next time for sure.

"Aww, don't want to fight? That's a shame. Because I'm going to fight you either way!" She had dodged away from him, and he was upset that his first attack had missed, but he had plenty of other attacks in him. He charged at her again, gripping his baton and swinging for her face again, though this time he was bracing himself and readying to follow the attack up if she wanted to dodge him.

Pharos frowned feeling even more confused by the guy. If he didn't care about double standards, why did he even mention it. He must have been trying to confuse her and he had succeeded. She shook her head and pushed the thoughts away. What was more important was he was trying to hurt her. She tried, she had tried to make him see reason, right.

She'd give it one more chance, "why even fight me? Do you even have a real reason, a real purpose and don't give me that aliens from outer space deal because we're all from earth no matter the past!"

He was swinging the metal stick at her again and she really didn't understand what he thought that was going to do, though she had to admit it was better than her cloth flower had been.

She spun swinging her staff for his knee aiming to knock him down without damaging him to much. Making him see reason would be a little hard if things got any nastier to quickly.

"Do I need a reason, really? I mean, s**t! We were called to this fight for a reason, isn't that enough to just do what you can with what you're given? I have this power to fight and that's what I'm going to do. I mean, I want to fight as hard as I can and get better. Don't you have that sense of urgency on your team? This motivation to do good for your people, or whatever?"

He laughed at that, shaking his head. This gal seemed to be a bit of a push over, but he saw that a lot on the white moon side. Their consciences were screaming all the time! He couldn't imagine that, even before he was on the Negaverse side of things.

Still!

He felt her staff hit his knee, though, and he yelped in pain. He was so busy thinking she was a push over he wasn't anticipating her to attack. He thought she would dodge again and that was where all his focus was. He did stumble but he managed to catch himself and lash out with his hand, trying to catch on to her and bring her down with him.

Pharos had some motivation, but it had waned over time, after all she had been technically magicked into space for something of a month and been attacked by space whales, bats and youma, but that had been two years ago.

She of course knew the negaverse was bad the carnival had proved that. She'd gone back to it to see it in shambles some time ago, but hadn't been able to sneak in though she had promised herself she would.

Was there a sense of urgency, no, she didnt really think so. A need to protect civilians and one's self and friends, but anything else, she wasn't sure. She belonged to a team there were several of them, but she barely saw them and couldn't gain much guidance from her. Despite Merlinite trying to fight her, he was raising some good questions. She decided she should probably find someone to talk to, there were ways of contact, maybe it was time to utilize them. Maybe it was time for her to get a little more serious. She'd try.

Thinking she was caught of guard when his hand wrapped around her wrist and she found herself falling. She tossed staffed hand downward to catch herself, not wanting to face plant.

She gave a small yep as her knees hit the ground and quickly tried to jerk away from Merlinite.

Merlinite watched her and laughed, though he was in a position of power now, and he was quickly getting wrapped up in it. He was not only going to win, he was going to win with style!

He tried to roll on top of her, pulling his fist back and moving to strike her a few times in the face if he could swing it.

"You stupid s**t! You think the White Moon matters? You think anything you do matters? You're all going to die either way, why do I care what you do or don't believe in? Why should anyone? You're all just pieces of s**t waiting to be cleaned up, and your lives don't matter. The civilians in this stupid city don't matter, either. So long as the Negaverse is in power, that's all that matters! I'm here to watch the world burn, baby, and you're just going to be one of the charred corpses in the wreckage."

Merlinite was surprised by his own words, and realized his bond to chaos was deeper than he knew. And that was a good thing, for sure! He was digging this power he was feeling. He loved it, in fact, and wanted nothing else but to attain more of it.

As tiny and light as Pharos was even as a squire it was hard to for him to get the upper hand. She found him looming over her with an angry expression and herself trying to desperately squirm away. She took a blow to the cheek on his first strike but was quicker on the next few. Her eyes were wide at his words.

"Of course it matters. We have to protect everyone," she shouted kicking her legs and pedaling in an attempt to take out a knee cap and get away.

Her struggles were paused momentarily at the viciousness of his words, he truly sounded like a real life villain, the kind one could only dream of in stories. One most normal people would never imagine coming across. She found herself fearing for her life then and her struggle, he fight double.

She kicked harder, clawed at the ground and tried to scratch his eyes out with dirt covered hands. "We matter, the city matters, everything matters. What you do! What I do! It all matters. I don't want to see my home in ruins like my wonder once was. Even if there's no real sense of urgency, even if we're not bound together we will rise up and we will defeat the darkness."

She was shouting, frantic, her weapon was useless to her at the moment, not really knowing how to wield it, outside of what she saw on television and she hardly thought to use it anyway.
