Teenage boys ate truck loads of food. When you didn't have a truck, getting food from the local grocer to home was something of a challenge, particularly when you were a teenage girl who was not only not athletic, but not terribly large either. Which was why Orah was struggling on her way home, a bag loaded in each arm and a bag hanging from each elbow.

Geez... she really needed to talk to her Da about a car. She was seventeen... she had a license and she did nearly all of the household shopping. Not needing to rely on her Da to drive her places for simple errands would be so incredibly helpful... But cest le vie. It wasn't going to do her any good right now to dwell on that.

Thankful there weren't many people out on the sidewalk today to have to dodge, Orah heard her phone chip and she sighed. This should be fun to accomplish. Juggling her bag from one arm to the other was a struggle and test of balance as she dug her phone out of her messenger bag and flipped it open to see a text from her Da. He asking if she'd remembered to get him a bag of chocolate raisins. It was one of his weaknesses and one of the few luxuries he allowed himself. Dark eyes rolled as she thumbed in an affirmative reply and hit send to a happy little ding. Of course she had remembered... he'd only reminded her five times before she'd left the house.

Juggling her bags again, she started off without looking, brown paper obscuring her view.

Björn was tired, but he wasn't going to let that interrupt his routine. Letting the weirdness of life deter anything would be admitting to failure and inability to handle both his hopes and his duties, and he wasn't about to do that. The answer was clear - work harder!

And keep an even closer habit of marking everything in his planner- scheduling his time, forcing himself outside and not just sit with his head cradled in hands. People counted on him. His lord had expectations of him. Nothing was ever finished that was never started, nor that was abandoned partway.

That wasn't to say that today's jog wasn't a bit scatter-brained. His attention was persistently drawn to the windows he was passing, the reflections of people across the street or whatever was on display within, the glitter of the occasional dime or penny on the ground, the unpleasant black blots of old gum on the sidewalk, or changing the music on his iPod because jarring death metal had suddenly exploded in his ears and he just wasn't in the mood. He had the little device in hand out of his arm strap, flipping through the shuffle, when suddenly there was a crinkle of paper bag and the distinct feel of someone smaller than himself colliding bodily with his torso-

I wasn't paying attention!!

He let the iPod immediately go, trying to catch the poor thing in his big arms before they spilled themselves and too many bags on the ground.

For a moment, Orah could have sworn she was being hit by a truck as she collided with something large and hard, traveling in the opposite direction she was. She let out an awkward yelp as her bags were shoved back into her face and escaped the only direction available... to the sides and out of her arms as she flailed a little. There was so much going on at once between attempting to catch the bags and herself that she managed to fail at all of it, only assisting the dumping of produce and packaged food onto the sidewalk as paper crumpled and ripped.

Arms halted the teen's fall before she hit the ground and she latched onto them, struggling to get her booted feet back under her.

"Oh my god, I'm so sorry!" The dark haired girl gushed as she let go of surprisingly beefy arms, dropping into a crouch to stop the produce from further spilling out of the dropped bags in their bid for veggie freedom. "I wasn't paying attention, its completely my fault. Are you okay?"

Equally dark eyes traveled up to check on the person she had run into... and kept going up. Geez, he was tall... and huge.

"Uh..." Orah's mind blanked as she stared up at him inelegantly, for once needing a moment to process all of the person in front of her.

His eyes were large disks of storm-coloured apology as she got her feet under her and then suddenly dropped right to work. How startling. Every bit as sudden as having collided with her. "Oh, it was my fault as well. I was not watching. I should have moved for you if I saw you. "

She was too short for her bags, so of course she hadn't seen him. She had paused and was just...looking at him. "I...am very much not hurt, miss."

"It was like being hit by a feather, you weigh nothing. Are you okay? I'm not so soft during work out or run. Let me help collect your things. Can I help you take them somewhere? I owe you that for spilling you."

Realizing she was staring, Orah broke off with a blinked and started pushing food back into the bags, shifting stuff into the bags still hanging on her arms that she could fit.

"I'm okay, don't worry about that!" She said with a laugh. "It was silly for me to hold my bags like that. Um... you really don't have to help, but thank you."

A smile curved over her face as the teen glanced up at the giant again. He was surprisingly nice, for such a big guy. It wasn't what she expected, but it was nice. Anyone his size could, for lack of a better term, really throw his weight around if he wanted to. She was nothing to him, he could have gotten away with a lot just by virtue of her inability to do anything to stop him. Had she been transformed, of course, that wouldn't be the case, but she was just a puny mortal at the moment.

"I shouldn't have taken on so much, I guess. I was trying to do too much."

"If taking too much, then more hands makes less, ja?"
He crouched himself down to be less looming and more at eye level, as much as that was possible anyway when he was still just that tall. He picked up what was on her other side, brushing things off and setting them into the bags with her, "I am in no hurry. It would be no trouble."

"Nothing is broken?" If there was, he could offer to buy her a new one. he was the wall the tide had broken against, after all. "Do you have a car waiting? "

"You're right, of course. And I think your hands can probably handle a lot more work than mine can." Orah laughed as she watched him collecting the rest of her groceries. A lot of it was vegetables, of course. Canned and boxed food. Luckily, most of the delicate stuff was in the bags she had on her arms, so the collision hadn't broken anything open.

"I think everything is fine. The eggs are in this bag and the milk in this one, so they're not broken. Actually, um... I don't have a car. I mean, my dad does, but he had to use it." The teen lifted the refilled bag into her arms as she chatted, watching him gather up the other. "I actually live a couple of blocks that way, I was planning just to walk it. This stuff is heavy, but I've done it before. Do you, um, live around here too?"

He was rather distinctive... Orah was pretty sure she would have noticed him before.

He gave a very plain sigh of relief that nothing was ruined. From the looks of all of it she certainly shopped healthy. A little light on the protein though! But maybe he was just used to his own shopping needs, which involved too much soy, tofu (wait, wasn't that soy too?), chicken, black beans, and rice. A couple blocks wasn't too bad, and wasn't really out of his way. He was out to get air, so that was everywhere out of doors.

Björn gave a casual motion to the UnderArmor gear he was wearing, "Oh, no, not living here. The gym I go to is maybe several miles away from here. I like to run home from it, and take different roads a few times each. So I can learn the city. "

"So I don't have a car either. But my arms carry more anyway, " He winked at her. "Cars are more for lifting. Groceries are a small thing. I can walk these there with you. My name is Björn Guildson. I....guess you could say I'm an amateur athlete. Soon to be semi-professional, hope. "

I hope there is someone at home to meet her. Imagine sending your daughter out alone in Destiny City will the war going on! Though maybe she thinks she is lucky to have a parent that isn't so frightened they suffocate her. At least I can protect her to her door. There's no telling if a neighborhood is safe judging from my experience. People don't bother me. She's pretty...I wonder where her family is from. She sounds normal, so maybe they are American for some time.

The young girl glanced up as she heard a sigh, a little surprised that he showed so much concern for her. It was nice... she hardly deserved it, since this whole thing was her fault, but it was still nice.

"Several miles? Wow... I've never been a runner, so that is an impressive distance to run each day. You don't, um, look like a track athlete." Orah said, suddenly feeling a little shy when she admitted she had been looking at him. That was silly, but frankly, he was really attractive, especially when he winked at her, showing a little bit of humor. Heat rushed to her cheeks and the teen smiled back at him.

"Lifting cars?" She laughed. "Are you a weight lifter then? I don't know that much about the sport. Its nice to meet you though!" Orah shifted her bag to free her right hand and she offered it to him.

"I'm Orah Gowan. I'm not an athlete. I'm just a student, and my Da runs a flower shop."

"I'm a strongman competitor. It is like weightlifting and powerlifting, but it emphasizes endurance more than either as well as moving with weight rather than just burst dead-lifting, " Talking about strongman competition in general just made him happy. It was really a tragedy that more people weren't aware of it- how could it not be exciting? He got to lift cars. "The World's Strongest Man Competition gets televised, but I don't think any other events do outside of alternative ESPN channels. Many have not heard of it. Honestly, I don't watch much TV myself to know."

"You seem enough of an athlete to me- an extended walk with that many bags of groceries is something. " Björn gave an accentuating nod, "But being a student is not so bad either. I graduated before summer, myself. I am glad to meet you, Orah. Do you plan to work at flowers? There's a word for that, isn't there...."

He trailed off, considering. 'Florist', however, just wasn't coming to mind.

Orah smiled as she listened. While it might not be something she had ever considered, it made her happy that it made him happy. It sounded interesting the way he laid it out for her, enlightening her to the differences.

"I don't want much TV either. I tend to have too much to do between the house and the shop." Reaching up, the teen tucked her hair behind her ear, turning to gesture the right direction so they could start for her house. "Carrying groceries is really not that big of a deal... everyone does that, and I don't normally carry that much. Actually, I'm sort of the opposite of an athlete, I sing in the school choir. Kind of nerdy, I know."

Tilting her head after a bit of thought, she smiled again. "That makes you, like, a year older than me. This is my senior year at Meadowview. After school, I do plan on becoming a Florist like my dad. I've been helping him since I was little, so I already know what I'm doing. Are you going to college, or jumping straight into working too?"

"If you have much to do at the shop, it sounds like you are not waiting for your diploma to start, " he chuckled companionably. "I could never go to college. Not real college. Though, maybe that is plain since I'm out running and not working someplace. I wanted to get one more season in before starting hard at something. Either ...I'm not sure. I help my mother right now on weekends- she is a chef and owns a fancy pastry and baked things place. I carry tables and boxes for her, 'gofer' they call it. But I think...it will either be something like that when I choose, since that is a schedule I can work around training, maybe work for the post office or shipping company on a loading dock, or I was thinking of trying to be an EMT. There are many people who are not small, and they need someone who can keep them stable getting them to and from hospitals. But that will take a while of studying for me I think. "

"Slow and steady wins?"

"Will you keep singing, even as a florist? Do plants really like music?"

"I'll always sing, I think. Not professionally, of course, but its something you can do anywhere. Its nice to have something to do after school, but I don't think I'm good enough for anything beyond that." A smile crossed Orah's lips as she tilted her head in thought. "I've heard that some people did a study about music and plants... like plants grew better listening to classical music than to death metal, or something."

She laughed as she shrugged, shifting her bags on her arms. "I've been helping my dad out at the shop since... Hmm. I can't remember exactly when I started. Probably whenever I was old enough to listen to instructions."

What an odd thing to think about. She hadn't really looked back at her childhood in a long time... days tended to flow together and there was always something that needed to be done, which left little time to think about what she had already done. It was probably because they were doing all this talk about jobs. She had wanted to be a florist like her Da for years now, but once in a while she wondered what she would have liked to do if she hadn't been raised the way she was. Would she have been an artist, or something more mundane, like a secretary, or maybe dental hygienist. Bjorn seemed to have so many options open to him, it just made her wonder about her own.

"Working at a small business is nice. I bet working at a bakery isn't all that different from working as a florist. An EMT sounds like it could be an exciting job, but also one that really does good things for people. I think... I think if I wasn't a florist, I'd like having a job where I helped people. Maybe a caregiver for the elderly, or something. I would like taking care of people."

Taking care of people, protecting people, was probably the most important thing in the world to her... which just reminded her of her second life. Talk about jobs, about the future, seemed ironic when placed beside that. She could die tomorrow for her sense of duty, and never get to have a future.

"I like helping where I can, " an agreement to her sentiments. "Even just at the bakery. "

"Are you going to take any business and tax courses? Maybe you already know all the filing stuff. I haven't touched any of that. " He considered his mother's various chore in dealing with owning her own business and didn't envy it. Anyone who could do the same was impressive in their drive and dedication. "Speaking of bakeries and florists, do you grow your own plants, or use nurseries? Anna sometimes uses flowers in her baking- apparently you can eat a lot of different flowers. They all taste like perfume to me, but people seem to like how colourful they are. "

"Like Chicory, mums, day lilies, fuchsia and hibiscus. Though the hibiscus she usually boils for tea. I get to carry the samovar out to the lobby when it is refilled. Maybe we've worked some of the same parties or weddings and not realized it. There are always flowers on tables."

The frown that had been threatening cleared as Orah laughed, turning her head to look up at the good foot of height that seperated her from Bjorn.

"I think maybe if we had been at the same party, I would have recognized you." She said as she grinned. He was rather distinctive and unique in her world. She only knew one other person as big as he was and THAT was not someone who would be carrying her groceries home, talking about flowers.

"I might take some business courses. I've been thinking about it, but... well, I could learn how to keep the books from my dad and college is expensive. Being a florist brings in enough money to live on, but not so much for college too." Orah shrugged as she said it. She had long since accepted the fact that while her family wasn't poor, they weren't well off either. She just made do with what they had and was thankful for that.

"Not many people know about flowers like that!" She said as her face brightened, her steps taking on a little bit of a bounce. If there was one thing she was always happy to chat about... "You can also eat the flowers from plants like leeks, chives and garlic, and Carnations taste sweet. Lavender flowers are spicy and of course, lots of people eat candied Rose petals. Jeez... get me started and I can talk forever about flowers. Probably more than you wanted to know!"
