!-Food Luck-!

Full Name: Hikaru Itou

Nicknames: The Green Little Chemist, or simply Green; this comes from the terrible poem: “There once was a green little chemist/A chemist he’ll be no more/For what he thought was H2O/Was H2SO4.”

He attempted to get through school to become a chemical engineer, but ended up flunking out of Quantitative Analysis twice before—he claims—he ‘came to his senses’ and realized his ‘true calling’ as a chef. His friends still tease him mercilessly for this, hence the nickname.

People who don’t know this backstory assume the nickname comes from the fact that he has dyed his light brown hair a shocking shade of green in the front, or because of the tattoos of vines and briars that cover both arms from shoulder to wrist.

Age: 26

Birth date: October 28th

Gender: Male

Relationship Status: Single

Job: Chef

Family: One estranged sister; no other living relatives.

Faction: IGO

Nobility: None whatsoever

Home: Gourmet Town

Likes: Spending time with his friends, sarcastic humor, cheap melon flavored hard candy or suckers, attempting new things in the kitchen despite the high rate of failure, entomology

Dislike: People who gossip or spread rumors, senseless destruction or cruelty, bullies, and being forced to kill an insect instead of trapping it and taking it back outside

Character Data

Power: Cunning/Creativity

Strength: Can talk his way into and back out of trouble with ease, able to diffuse tension and avoid most fights. He does a great deal of hiking and jogging, and as such has excellent endurance when it comes to most physical activity.

Weakness: When it comes to actual fighting, Hikaru is not a strong man; a single well-aimed punch is likely to take him out of a fight, and when doing anything other than cooking, he tends to be a bit clumsy. He also doesn’t always know when to keep his mouth shut, and tends to make enemies of people he finds cruel or overbearing.

Weapon of Choice: If absolutely forced to fight, he’ll use whatever happens to be on hand; he once beat a rowdy patron of his restaurant to the ground using a push broom to stop the drunkard from assaulting a female customer.

Special Ability: (OOC: Unsure if this is applicable to chefs; if it is, his special ability would probably be his uncanny knack for talking himself out of trouble.)

Character Description

Looks: Hikaru is of an average height, around 1.7 meters tall and fairly lean. He doesn’t have very much muscle, and what he does have comes from bodyweight exercises; with his usual clothing on, he looks rather scrawny. His hair is long enough that he wears it pulled back in a ponytail, and is brown except for the brilliant green patch in the very front. He has a vast number of tattoos and piercings, though most of them are hidden by his chef’s jacket and long pants.

The biggest of these tattoos starts at the nape of his neck and travels along the length of his spine is a twisting tangle of vines; this branches off to spiral down both arms, the vines on the left seeming more ‘ominous’ (in his opinion) with several varieties of poisonous insects hidden amongst their thorns. The vines on the right have no thorns at all, and the insects there are mostly harmless beetles, moths, and butterflies. On his chest, just over his heart, there is representation of a human heart; it was done with strike branding instead of tattooing, and is currently unfinished. Once it is complete, it will appear to have tree roots sprouting from the bottom of it as if holding it up.

He has one tattoo on the back of each calf. The one on the left is of a spatula crossed over a whisk (old and somewhat poorly done; he says it comes from when he was ‘young, dumb, and enthusiastic.’) The one on the right is much better quality, and shows a green-handled chef’s knife propped against a half-filled beaker of green liquid, with the words “Green Little Chemist” in a semi-circle beneath it; he insists that the only reason he has it is because he let his friends from school take him out drinking and plant the idea in his head, and loudly blames his closest friend for it—but only when said friend is in earshot.

His piercings are, for the most part, more readily visible than his tattoos; he has multiple piercings in each ear, as well as two rings in his right eyebrow and on through his lower lip. He has others, but all are covered by his clothing; unless he is seen while bathing or by a romantic partner, no one really knows about them.

Personality: Hikaru is outgoing, friendly, and somewhat boisterous; he is exceptionally physically demonstrative; he is always hugging his friends, slinging a companionable arm around their shoulders, or otherwise invading their personal space. Everyone who is actually friends with him just rolls their eyes and accepts it, but he does try to reign it in a bit when he first meets new people.

Height: 1.7 meters

Weight: 65 kilograms
Eye Color: hazel, mostly brown with a faint green tinge; technically has “partial heterochromia” an exceedingly common condition in which there is a harmless spot of different color in one eye. In his case, it is a tiny, irregular splotch of jade green in the iris of his right eye.

Hair Color: Fairly light brown, mid-back length, and dyed a stunningly bright green in the front

Your Song: The Mice, The Demons, and the Piggies by Wolfgang Parker (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFPd3nkk-Ck )

Background Information:
Hikaru Itou was raised by a single father, along with his sister. If he has any other living relatives, he knows nothing of them; they moved around a fair amount as a child, for reasons he was never quite sure of, and he now suspects that his father may not have truly been his legal guardian. Despite this, he spent most of his childhood desperate to obtain his father’s approval, which was given very sparingly—if ever. He finally gave up on this idea when he went off to school; that is where he first began getting tattoos and piercings, things his father strongly disapproved of.

He initially intended to become a chemical engineer to follow in his father’s footsteps, but found himself unable to do so; he suffers from dyscalculia, which made it nearly impossible and extremely unpleasant for him to slog through mathematics and chemistry homework. He fell in love with cooking fairly late in life, because he could ‘feel’ when something was right; he rarely sticks to a recipe, instead going with gut instinct. This usually ends well, but he occasionally has some spectacular failures; it is a running joke in his place of employment that if you see Green running, you should drop everything and try to keep up.

Unfortunately, despite the fact that being a chef is a respected position, his father simply accused him of being ‘too lazy to finish what he started, as usual’ and refused to talk to him until he ‘came to his senses.’ Hikaru, heart-broken by this but not terribly surprised, simply accepted his father’s decision. He had been working as a chef for three years before he got a call from his sister, in which she angrily informed him that he was heartless for allowing their father to die without ever coming home to speak to him.

Hikaru was blind-sided by this, having never been told that his father was ill, and he still doesn’t know what kind of miscommunication occurred to convince his sister that he willingly ignored his dying father. He attempted to reach out to her many times after that, but she refuses to take his calls. He still calls once a year, on her birthday, hoping to reconnect; so far, he has had no luck.

Hikaru is currently the head chef of a small, 4-star restaurant that isn’t terribly well known; the regular customers there know him very well, though, and some will hang around until he gets off work to go out drinking with him. He is always excited and enthusiastic, verging on bubbly, and he can make almost anyone laugh; as such, his staff are—for the most part—good friends with him as well, and he goes out of his way to help people who are new to the business get their ‘sea legs’ and figure out where they want to go and what their specialty might be.

His own specialty is in creating new and interesting vegetarian dishes, though most people are surprised to hear this. He keeps his own garden, and is very passionate about botany and entomology, as his tattoos would suggest; he has always wanted to travel the world—at least, the Human World—in search of new and interesting plants, but has never had the time or the ability to do so.

His only pet is a tarantula named Lucy, and he truly dotes on it; he finds it very soothing to sit and watch the spider after work, and does so almost as a form of meditation. He occasionally expresses a desire to get a dog or a cat, but thus far has never shown any inclination to actually do so.

Additional Information

Companions: Has a tight-knit circle of friends from school, as well as a vast network of people that he is on good terms with. He has no partner yet, however, though he is looking for a bishokuya that he gets along with who seems as interested in plants as he is in the hopes of forming both a friendship and a combo.

In terms of animal companions, all he has is Lucy the tarantula, and she isn’t particularly companionable.

Food Ideology: A soft answer—and an excellent meal—turneth away wrath.

Thank you for the clarification! This is what I've come up with; I hope it's acceptable. I figured that both of these things would be reasonable for a chef of his (fairly low) level. I am really not sure how either thing would use up calories, though, as neither are exactly 'special attacks.'

Movelist:

Food Luck – certain ingredients, especially vegetation, seem to want him to find and/or prepare them. He calls this his ‘gut instinct’ and he tries to follow it wherever it might lead him. This has found him scrambling over his neighbor’s fence in the dead of night with a basket in hand, trying frantically to pick the leaves off their dandelions before they set their particularly vicious and portly dog on him. It usually leads him to good ingredients, but not always into good situations.

Gift of Gab – Being physically on the smaller, weaker side, he had to learn new ways to defend himself; he can talk himself out of most uncomfortable situations, and is very persuasive when he wants to be. Unfortunately, he doesn’t always know when to keep his mouth shut; if he sees someone picking on a person who is smaller or weaker than them, he will invariably get their attention—usually with a string of clever and amusing insults that bystanders might appreciate, but that are likely to get him knifed. Indeed, he actually has a faded scar that runs along the curve of his hip from where a drunk tried to stab him after he cheerfully suggested that the man’s mother must have slept with a crab pig to produce him.
