Getting sick was pretty bad, but having to be in the hospital was even worse. When Peter heard about how Ainsley was in the hospital, his first thoughts was that she’d gotten hurt somehow. Maybe a youma or negaverse officer had attacked her — as some were prone to do with small children. But hearing that it was pneumonia, well… that wasn’t any better.
It wasn’t too difficult to find out where she lived, nor was it that difficult to convince his mom to let him go see her now that she was better. Peter had been disappointed when he hadn’t been the one picked to bring her the get-well letters their fellow students wrote for her when she was in the hospital, but now that she was home and still recovering, she had to be just as lonely.
He knew he’d be lonely…
So instead of letters, with him he brought a bag of other things. Flowers were most obvious — daisies, since his mother said that would be the best to brighten up a little girl’s room — and crayons and activity books to hopefully keep her entertained when she didn’t want to lay around in bed. It wasn’t much, but hopefully she wouldn’t mind.
Peter rang the doorbell when he got there, but immediately wondered if he should have knocked… What if Ainsley was sleeping?? Oops! Hopefully she wouldn’t be too upset with him…

Letters from her classmates wasn't really something Ainsley had looked forward to reading with all of the recent bullying she'd been the victim of. However, thanks to the letters being written and sent from the class there hadn't been anything inappropriate in them. It didn't make the thought of going back any easier though because she worried that things might simply slide back into habit and her nervousness on the subject probably made it all that much easier for it to happen.
Worse than the letters, being in the hospital was terrible. At least half of her time in the hospital had been unfathomable to the child. She could remember she was on Hypnos but the next thing she could remember after that was waking up in the hospital. Much to Ainsley's dismay, there was a gap in her memory from the span of the week. Needless to say, Ainsley was extremely happy to be back home, even if she was still recovering from it all.
She wished she could power up into Hypnos though. She felt trapped in the house like a bird in a cage, unable to spread her wings and fly away. She was still not up to par and when the doorbell rang Ainsley found herself digging herself off of the couch in the living room and dragging her feet to the door. No one else was home so she had no choice to answer it because it could be important. Slow and steady, Ainsley stumbled into the hallway and made it to the door.
Ainsley was a mess when she opened the door. Her hair was not done up, hanging messily around her face with an awkward case of bedhead making it even worse. Instead of her usually calculated attire, she was in her pajamas with a big, warm housecoat over it with slippers on her feet. It was unusual for her to be so dressed down even when home so when she recognized the face as Peter Gallo she found herself embarrassed by her manner of dress.
"Peter?" She asked, her voice cracking. "W..." she begun to say before she coughed. "What are you doing here?"

Peter was glad when it was Ainsley who had opened the door, because he had no idea what he would tell her parents, other than he wanted to make sure their daughter was okay. Not one to be really picky about how he looked himself (and as someone who still often dressed up in capes and funny hats around the house, or even in public, depending on his mood), her state of dress didn’t even occur to him as something odd. She was obviously still sick, so why not walk around in something comfortable?
“Hey!” he greeted her with a large smile and holding the bouquet of white daisies out for her. “Uh, you like flowers, right? Mom said they might make you feel better, so… yeah,” he said, holding them out to her to take.
“I’m seeing how you are, duh,” he let out a small huff, wondering if she maybe didn’t want company, which was fine and he would be okay with leaving once he gave her the things he got for her. “How are you?” he asked, before wrinkling his nose at the thought of how she might feel. “Probably gross, right? I hate hospitals… I bet you’re glad to be home.”
Even if she didn’t want him to stay around, it was still good to see that she was up and out of bed. That was always a positive, right??

Whether Ainsley had opened the door or not, Peter never would have had to explain why he was here to her parents. Her father lived in New York City and her mother was in Japan, or at least that's where Ainsley thought she was currently. In her hazy state before she collapsed with a fever, she had sworn she had seen her mother but when she woke up in the hospital her mother had been no where to be found.
"I..." she said as if she was going to say something but nothing came out. Did she like flowers? She definitely liked flowers! She found herself unable to speak those words though and instead took the flowers into her arms with a soft smile. "Thank you," she said as a small blush formed over the tops of her cheeks. She was nearing her thirteenth year of life but this was the first time she had received flowers from a boy!
Watching Peter stand there though, Ainsley shifted uneasily as she became more and more aware that she was standing in the doorway in her pajamas. Anyone who walked down the sidewalk could see her and it was embarrassing! Icy blue eyes looked to Peter and she stepped close to the door, trying to usher him in.
"I'm... better," she replied as she pressed her back against the wall.
"Please come in," she said, covering her mouth with the flowers as she held back a cough.
