Jeanne did not appreciate threats to her mother's business. She especially didn't appreciate threats that came from weird creatures she couldn't identify. Not that she'd had much opportunity to deal with that until a strangely leopard-like creature (though its colors were all wrong, oranges and reds and pinks instead of what they should be) came striding onto the patio and sending people running as it snapped and growled.
"Oh, hell naw," Jennie growled, very annoyed that she had listened to her mother and not brought some kind of weapon with her today. It was always the days you didn't pack something that you needed it.
"Jennie, be careful!" Her mother pleaded, and she appreciated she didn't ask her to stop.
"I always am, mama, I promise," she said. Then, she strode out onto the porch. "Here, kitty, kitty! Come on, you ugly sonuvabitch!"

Jennie lied to her mother -- because approaching the creature was not, in any way, safe. The youma had terrorized its way down her block, setting neighboring dogs to barking and harassing a half-dozen patrons who'd run screaming down alleyways. It had knocked over a post box, left angry grooves down the side of someone's Camry, spittle flying off its fangs as it snarled -- And it was headed right toward Jennie, now that she'd confronted it, orange eyes settled challengingly on her face. "Daring, but unwise." The voice came panting, halting, from the corner of her porch's railing, where a rather large golden cat perched. Lee's hackles were up, fur exploded outward to make her about twice her usual size, tail turned into a giant pipecleaner. "I'm telling you to run, now. Run. Around back. Your obedience will be rewarded." It was too public here. Lee didn't wait for argument. She just took off at a bounding, easy, effortless run.

Jennie had already shifted into a fighting stance when the unfamiliar voice had her turning, and her heart, for a brief moment stopped.
A talking cat. Exactly what Avior had spoken of, the very thing that might awaken her into a Senshi. Ordinarily she would have argued, or questioned, but given the knowledge she already had - well, there was only one thing to do.
"I'm comin', I'm comin'," she replied, following the cat around the back of the restaurant. For once, it was empty - no one running deliveries or dumping leftovers - because people were holed up inside, behind locked doors and closed windows, praying the bizarre leopardthing wouldn't get them.

Laoise might have been a guardian cat, but she was still most certainly a cat. In the time it took Jennie to round the corner and catch up with her, she'd managed to get ahead, to set herself up tidily on a door stoop, tail wound around her feet. Bright eyes flashed past the girl to the alley's entranceway and -- Well. They didn't have long, now. "I'm giving you a gift. I want to make sure you know that, because if you whine or throw any hissy fits at me because of it, I simply won't tolerate it." Old annoyance crept through in her voice as she unwound her tail to reveal a henshin pen on the ground in front of her. "If you accept that, take this. If you don't, go die."

"No whinin' or hissy fits here, ma'am, I promise," Jennie said, and she was trying very very hard not to grin in her excitement. How convenient, that so soon after she'd been told of Senshi, she was going to become one. She reached for the pen and picked it up, and felt a warmth settle inside her.
"Not plannin' on dyin' today, no thank you," she said. "Is there anythin' special I have to do to make this work?" Everything about her stance, her tone, was eager and excited. There would be no whining or crying or running away from this Senshi.

It was strange, perhaps, to watch a cat work her mouth -- to watch her chew on words, consider the pronunciation, rehearse something in her mind before she spoke. Most cats had a spark of intelligence in their eyes, perhaps, but not like this. Cats plotted. They didn't think. But Laoise did. She straightened, at last, getting the words out just as the beast started to poke its nose around the corner to sniff them out. "Penthesilea Power Make Up." She said it in a very matter of fact way, not stumbling on the name in the slightest. The girl could choose to add drama, if she wanted.

Jennie nodded, holding the pen tight in her grip and staring the monster down as it prowled towards her.
"Penthesilea Power Make Up," she said, pronouncing it as carefully as the cat had - the first time she worked around her accent, because she didn't want a wrong pronunciation to mean it didn't work.
It worked.

It had been a long time since she'd worn her hair down, and she couldn't help but think that was a little impractical, but she didn't have much time to worry because as soon as she transformed, the thing launched itself at her, raking claws across her side. "Damn!" She hissed, slamming her foot under the thing's belly. She reached over, pressing her hand to her bleeding side. "That hurt!"

Could a cat shrug? Laoise tried anyway, a rippling roll of one shoulder that lifted her out of her sitting position to stand, tail swiping up as she did. If the thing kept coming at her, she wanted to be able to run. After all, she was a one-hit wonder; her only defense was, essentially, that self-destruct button. Unconscious, she couldn't help herself, let alone anyone else. "So fight back, don't just whine about it." Her tone was annoyed, but that was hardly new. Laoise just sounded like that. "You promised me no whining. Kick it again."

The newly-Awakened Senshi frowned. She had promised of course, and there was no denying that this was exactly what she wanted. "Kick it again, huh?" She said, and she did, shifting her weight and kicking the cat-thing in the side.
"So what?" She dodged out of the way of another swipe of claws. "I keep kickin' it until it's dead?" That sounded perfectly reasonable. And kind of fun.

"It's that or lie down at its feet to die." It seemed Laoise couldn't help but bite -- even when her expression took on an approving edge, even when she approved of a Senshi. For once. For once she had one with spirit, who actually put a little effort into things. And knew how to do it. "I suggest fighting, though." Her tail twitched. Maybe the girl wouldn't even need to use her powers. "Try pulling on its tail."

"Definitely not layin' down," Penthesilea replied, and then her hand snapped out to grab and yank the leopard-thing's tail. It snarled at her and spun, claws outstretched, but a quick, solid kick to its underbelly sent it flying on its back, and then she rained kicks down until it dissolved into dust.
"Huh, that was fun - oh, s**t." Apparently there wasn't only one, because a second cat-thing, more like a shadow-lion with overlong fangs was prowling into the back. "How many of these ********' things are there?"

"There seems to be an inexhaustible supply." It still held a note of that sarcasm, Laoise settled off to the side -- not helping in the slightest. But then, what could a house cat do against a tiger, a lion, a beast twice her size? She shook her head a little. "Try this: hands in front of you, say " Penthesilea Call to Arms"." It came with a slow sigh, a twitch of her tail. Maybe she should have waited longer. They'd find out soon.

Penthesilea blinked slowly, but she nodded. So far, everything Laoise had told her to do had worked out, so...
"Penthesilea Call to Arms!" Once again she was careful about pronunciation, just in case it mattered. Her eyes widened for a moment when a glowing red sword appeared in her hands, but she slashed it at the approaching beast, and a flash of red light flew from it, striking the youma and turning it, too, into dust.
"Damn!" She said, grinning widely. "That was great!"

"Hrrm." It was as close as Laoise came to agreeing, watching the pile of dust for a long moment like she expected it to get up again, and come at them with renewed vigor. Then her attention slipped away, out toward the street, ears flicking as she listened for more creatures. "I think that is it, for tonight." She tipped her head, paws settling close together, and then turned yellow-green eyes back on Penthesilea. "You get the idea, I think..."

Penthesilea nodded, and took a breath, her eyes a little wide. "How do I go back t'bein' myself?" Her regular self, rather, because being Penthesilea felt a lot better than being Jennie, but she didn't think she was going to be able to get these nasty bleeding slices in her side taken care of without medical attention and she wasn't showing up at the hospital like this.
Hey, maybe they'd scar - that'd be something pretty neat. She pressed a hand to them, wishing a little that her midesction was more covered, or that she at least had extra fabric somewhere to rip off and make into a temporary bandage.
Oh well.
