This wasn't how the evening was supposed to turn out.

It had actually started out pretty normal, with Liryn spending the night doing what he spent most nights doing - looking for his senshi.

It had been pretty quiet, the auras he sensed for the most part all pretty scattered from each other. Three had been relatively close though, two eternal strength auras and one base senshi strength aura.

He’d decided on trying to follow the base senshi aura and that’s when his evening had somehow started going wrong - actually make that going totally downhill.

And all in the form of a familiar-looking small tabby bobtail - a tabby bobtail that looked like well him. Well okay not exactly like him but close enough that it had been like looking at a reflection in a mirror - a reflection with a grey filter.

He'd tried to greet the other, because hey how often did you get to meet a twin reflection, he'd even twitched his small tail in welcome as the other mauvian trotted closer and then his world had come crashing down as his twin reflection swiped out at him.

"Hey!" he called out as he dodged to the side, his reflection following after him and then barely managed to dodge out of the way as it tried to bite his tail.

He spun round, swiping out an un-clawed paw of his own "I only want to talk."

His reflection easily dodged, before coming after him again with claws out. It was relentless and it didn't seem that interested in talking. Liryn conceded that maybe just maybe he was in a little bit of trouble; although he was pretty sure he could come up with something given time.

Not that his reflection seemed inclined to give him any as it once again lunged at him again with vicious intent.

Another night, another moonless patrol, another chance to run into their doubles. Eternal Sailor Tsui was growing tired of this endeavor, but not necessarily for the same reason as her comrades' might have been. Ever since the Eclipse, everyone's been attached by their own shade, except for her own. Tsui had seen hide nor hair of her dark doppelganger, and while that should have been a relief in its own right, considering others were killed, she felt as though that perhaps she was unworthy of one. Or perhaps her doppleganger had mistakeningly attacked another and was killed before she had the chance to face it? Or maybe... she was thinking too much into it and should have been focusing on the bigger picture and not her own selfish desire to fight herself.

She kept this discouragement hidden from Ida, not wanting to dampen the mood or take away from the other senshi's accomplishments. Ida had fought her own at some point, and succeeded in surviving, and Tsui couldn't be anymore proud of her friend. "You think this eclipse is ever going to let up? I mean, the moon can't possibly hide forever, right?"

Tsui looked into the dark sky, narrowing her golden eyes as if to try and see what was going on up there beyond her line of sight. "That wouldn't be fair, considering I've only been up there once! I think once this whole shadow tag thing ends, I need to make a visit up there. Want to come with?"

Her senses tingled with a Order aura not too far away, and the shout she heard was a telltale sign that someone was in trouble. She looked to her friend, arching an eyebrow but otherwise appearing eager for action. "Wanna take bets on what kind of doppelganger we're about to go beat up? Loser pays for a milkshake!"

While Ida might have had multiple run ins with her shade, each time the dratted thing had taken off the moment things got too much for it to handle or it took on too much damage. Maybe it was a reflection of Ida's own tendency to avoid conflict when there wasn't someone to protect, but coming into conflict with it's apparent need to kill her. What did they have to gain by killing their double, anyway? It made her wonder sometimes and she suspected there was something going on there. Was it as simple as youma, who just wanted to feed on the energy of a human being?

Her attention caught by a comment by her friend, Ida smiled back with a shrug. "I hope not. I don't like seeing it like that. I've... never been there before, but I would really love to go sometime. I'll definitely take you up on the visit once this mess is all cleaned up." The orchid senshi heard the shout at the same time and her smile faded into a more determined expression. She stretched her senses wide, trying to feel what they were up against. It was a strange signal that she felt and she frowned worriedly.

"Is... is that a cat?" She said as she broke into a run, feeling a flash of worry. It felt the way Horatio felt to her senses, the way ********* did. While having any cat being attacked was horrible, she was especially worried for the pair that she had become friends with.

At some point Liryn had decided that batting defensively at his greyed-out double wasn't going to work, in part helped by the not-him doing swiping out at his nose.

Hey that was kind of unforgivable you know.

He'd let his claws slide out with an annoyed hiss, his fur puffing out as he swiped back at the not-him.

The only problem was that they were evenly matched, with the thing seeming to know what he was planning to do almost before he did it.

One of the not-him's swipes connected with his side, pain blossoming as it raked with a cheerful "Die" and Liryn yowled, the sound echoing down the street.

"Well... the moment we figure out what's going on and we get out moon back, I say we can take a field trip... a PSSG-styled field trip, straight to the moon." Tsui said in a half-joking manner. Deep down inside, she was growing worried about the phenomenon and wondered just how much longer the moon would linger behind a shroud of darkness... who would be the first of them to try and investigate it? When they've defeated their shadow clones, would the moon reappear, or was something else required? It was a troubling matter, but one that was pushed to the wayside as they closed in on their target. They could worry about the moon later- right now, someone needed their help!

"Feels like a cat... man, shade guardian cat. This is going to go against everything I stand for with animals," Tsui said, her complaint nothing more than a petty sigh as they reached their destination. Sure enough, Ida's senses were dead on, and despite her earlier complaint, Tsui was quick to jump in. Liryn's howl sounded painful, and Tsui sought to drive a foot into the shadow cat's side and send it flying. She never fought a cat before, not would she have ever thought of herself ever committing such an act, but then again, she'd never see herself being a Sailor Senshi before that fateful day two years ago. "Back off, shadow cat!"

"I'll hold you to that." Ida said with a smile as she followed Tsui, coming up behind her to assess the situation.

"Its not an animal, its a shade!" The flower senshi called, trying to be encouraging when Tsui kicked the grey cat. As was typical with a lot of their fights, she let the tiger take point while she went for those who needed protecting, the ones who were injured... Dashing over to the guardian cat, she scooped him up into her arms and moved them back out of reach before she turned to watch the fight.

"Don't worry, I've got you." She said softly to the cat in her arms, finding herself curious about him. She'd never met this particular cat before. Poor little thing, clawed up like that. "We'll protect you, don't worry."

One moment the not-him was moving in again with teeth and claws and the next the thing was flying?

He tilted his head up, no not flying he decided as the not-him soared back and away from him with a yowling screech, but rather knocked away. The cause seemingly the nearby grey and white clad eternal senshi.

He was barely able to process that there was another senshi, another eternal senshi like the first, when he was being scooped up, the other senshi's hands gentle.

With the not-him about - a not-him that had it seemed proved that old adaged about landing on their feet by managing to do exactly that as it landed a little way back from them - it did not seem like the right time for making introductions, instead Liryn settled for gently butting at the white and purple-clad senshi holding him, before turning his purple eyes on the not-him that had hurt him.

A not-him that was staring back at him with hatred in its eyes as the star on its forehead started to glow.

There was time for Liryn to get out a yelled "Watch out!" And then with an angry the not-him shot a beam out of said star - the beam's target him and therefore by proximity the purple and white-clad senshi still holding him in her arms.

Never did she think she'd find herself striking an animal, and yet, there was very little guilt in her heart for doing so, not when Ida noticed the same thing she had. It seemed that these shade creatures were everywhere now, even infecting poor guardian cats. Or could it be any cat? There was little time for Tsui to consider it now, though, and to see it go flying almost made her cackle, but she barely refrained. She couldn't stop herself from throwing her arms in the air, though, as though she had just made a touchdown.

Unfortunately, any chance to really celebrate was ruined when the shade cat merely landed on its feet, and Tsui spat, slapping herself harmless on the forehead as she berated herself. "Right, always land on all four feet. Dummy..."

The star on its forehead began to glow, and while the Tiger senshi had no idea what that had meant, she knew exactly where the creature was aiming at and wasn't going to allow it. As fast as her feet could take her, she rushed at Ida and the injured cat, hoping to grab them by the shoulders and use the momentum to push them out of the way, slamming her eyes shut and hoping for the best. Even if she got hit protecting them, she wouldn't regret it! Once they survived this, if they survived, she'd have to ask the guardian cat a few questions in regards to this beam cannon they seemed to possess...

It was a relief to feel the guardian in her arms head butt her in the way cats have, letting her know the poor thing was okay. The feeling was short lived, though, replaced with concern as the star on his double began to glow. She'd never seen a guardian do that before... and she was pretty sure it didn't bode well for them, being the target of it.

Seeing the shade fix its eyes on her and her burden, the eternal senshi spun to put her back to it and hunched over the cat in her arms. Hopefully he was small enough that she would be able to shield him from whatever was coming... but when it hit her, it was not as bad as she had thought. One of her arms went numb and she hissed, dropping that arm to shake out the pins-and-needles sensation...

"Tsui?" Ida gasped as she realized her friend had thrown herself in front of the beam. "Tsui, are you okay?" She gasped out, her voice and face filled with concern. It didn't feel like that attack did more than stun, but the tiger senshi had taken far more of it than she had.

The Tiger senshi's actions was enough to prevent the beam from hitting him and the purple and white clad eternal dead on, although it would have left her pretty much in the path of the stinging beam.

A hiss from the purple and white clad eternal suggested that the beam, or at least part of it had still managed to leave its mark, although her actions had managed to save him from being hit.

And it left Liryn feeling angry at the not-him's actions, because although the Shade cat's earlier attempt to nose swipe him had been unforgivable, what the fake had just done was beyond unforgivable.

"How dare you" he hissed, as he puffed his fur up managing to look more than a puffed up fluff ball than a spitting mad cat, although it didn't stop him from trying to wriggle down from the purple and white clad eternal so that he could face the not-him properly. "How dare you hurt these senshi."

A guardian was not supposed to hurt senshi - their duty was supposed to be to protect and Liryn was fully intent to let the senshi hurting not-him have a taste of its own medicine once he was on the ground - in the form of his own kitty beam.

Tsui wasn't sure what to expect from the beam that shot out of the shade cat's forehead and she had hoped that her tenure as Eternal senshi would have somehow prepared her for attacks of any kind, but of course, she was wrong. The beam managed to hit the both of them and when Tsui went tumbling to the ground, she was surprised with just how painless the fall was in comparison to the blast, and the blast itself didn't necessarily hurt but the fact that she felt nothing for a few seconds and couldn't move told her guardian cats were certainly not to be messed with.

She could hear Ida's concern and she immediately addressed it, trying to sound strong and tough even when she couldn't move her arms to pick herself off the ground. "I'm okay… I think… can't feel… uh, a lot of parts… can't get up, but I'm okay…"

Whether this was only a temporary effect or permanent was a mystery to Tsui, but she couldn't ignore the anger she heard coming from the guardian cat in Ida's arms, and what better way to express that anger than to let it out in a beam of his own? As Tsui could feel the growing sensation of pins and needles spreading to her body, she strained her neck to see if the attack hit, hoping it would so that she could laugh at the fake Liryn's punishment. Guardian cats were certainly NOT to be messed with!

This was the first time she had seem the forehead beam in action, though she had heard about it before. It certainly looked impressive, but thankfully the damage to her friend was minor. Their good luck, she supposed.

She didn't have long to dwell on it though because the guardian in her arms was squirming to be free, wriggling from her arms before she could stop him. This wasn't good... she had been trying to save him, not the other way around!

Falling to her knees, the eternal was forced to let her burden go and Ida swept an arm out as soon as the cat was clear.

"Heavenly Orchid Arrows!" She shouted as she grabbed up her bow and pulled back the invisible string. An arrow appeared, shining between her hands, and she let it go aimed straight for the shade. Let it deal with that, rather than her or her friends.

As soon as the purple and white clad eternal's grip had loosened, Liryn had sprung for the ground jade star glowing as he landed near the other eternal and both fluffed up and seething with anger at the not-him's actions he had shot his own kitty beam in the direction of the senshi-hurting Shade cat.

The not-him had seen the beam heading his way and tried to spring out of the way, but his fake had only been partially successful and the thing yowled as his beam scored it across the right hind leg sending it tumbling inelegantly to the ground.

Using the kitty beam was a two-edged sword though and Liryn could already feel tiredness starting to settle in, his puffed up fur starting to deflate as he heard the purple and white clad eternal calling out an attack, a shining arrow forming between her hands.

And then that arrow was being sent in the direction of the not-him, the fake letting out a fur-raising screech as the arrow connected and then there was sudden silence as the Shade cat faded away and Liryn felt his little legs plop from under him as he suddenly went from tired to flat out exhausted.

Not only did the Guardian cat's beam go whizzing over her head but so did Ida's eternal attack, and Tsui struggled to throw herself over to where she was facing the shade cat, not wanting to miss a single moment of this kind of retaliation. Part of her pride was bruised from the fact that she couldn't throw an attack towards the greyed-out cat, but on the other hand, it was nice to know that others had her back when she needed it.

Through Liryn's and Ida's combined efforts, the shade cat was undeniably dead, watching as it dissipated into dust with a yowl, and Tsui gave a triumphant shout, raising her arms even though they were still tingling to cheer on her team. "Awesome work, both of you! That'll teach it a lesson…"

By the time Tsui had enough feeling in her body, the Guardian cat had tumbled to the ground from his attack and Tsui tried to grab the cat, despite the pins and needles in her form. She missed horribly, but that didn't stop her from dragging herself towards him and scooping him up. "Hey, take it easy there… you won!"

Then she flashed Ida a smile, as she added, "We won. I'm sure he won't be hurting anyone else ever again!"

The eternal level attack was draining, but not so much that Ida wasn't ready to go again, if need be. Thankfully, there was no need and she was half proud of her new attack. The shade stood no chance against it, which just meant the guardian cat got saved all that much faster, before anyone else could be hurt.

Seeing Tsui scoop up the collapsed kitty, she scooted over to kneel beside them and ran a reassuring hand down the cat's body.

"Are you okay?" She said softly to him as she offered Tsui a steadying arm to get herself upright. "Um... I'm Ida, and this is Tsui." It was probably a good time for introductions, now that the threat was over.
