WELCOME, WELCOME!

To Crossroads: the How-To Guide!

This is where I will post all my helpful information links about Middle-Earth and the guild. This is separate yet also connected to the F.A.Q Topic. That's for your questions, This is for the stuff that will actually help you on your way. Show you the path, if you will.

Okay so first thing's first.... Navigating the GUILD!

It's very simple after you get over the newbie jitters. Everything is labeled very clearly, though some may have a hard time with the font choice. I get that, but I like it better than plain boring text. Like so.

First thing you need to do is read the RULES. Then sign them. They're important cause I don't joke around with that anymore. If you mess up, you're gone. Yes, you get the 3 strikes and you're out part, but after that.. you're banned from the guild. After 3 strikes you've shown me just how you are and we don't need that kind of people around here. Seems stern but after several stressful guilds of fights and arguments it wears on your patience. So that's that, on the Rules and stuff.

Next you want to do is read up on your information! If you're a newbie to the Tolkien world and was brought in by the movie's, that's perfectly fine! No 'well you should have read the books' judgement here. Personally I found that the books read like stereo instructions in dutch. Of course I was young when I read them so it may have just been that it was above my reading level or something. Anywhoooo.....

When you are done looking over the Wikia or Wikipedia, or even the info here, you can move onto MAKING YOUR CHARACTER! Yes, whether you wish to have your own creative person or to take up the role of a canon character, it's fine with me. But you have to show your skills with that character. We can't just hand that out to anyone. To do this you merely head over to the very first subforum aptly named CHARACTER PROFILES. Basically, EVERYONE HAS TO AUDITION for CANON roles.

There you shall find the TEMPLATE to use for your bio, and a Canon Character List, Info on playable races here in the guild (yes, I allow characters that are not of the humanoid types like Great Eagles and even Ents, etc), and the face claims thread. All are important. Please read them through and follow the instructions, please. You make a thread in that subforum and fill out the template. When you are done I will look over it and stamp it approved and this will be shown by an image reply and the letter of your character's race in the title.

But -but, Femme! Where's the Guild's plot starting at? You have the whole timeline here! That's a marvelous question. You on your own can rp in any time listed on that timeline. There will be a main guild plot in place, but aside from that you can make AU threads, or just make threads along the timeline in canon. It's very much like having two modes of play in a video game. Story Mode, which follows the timeline's events, or Free Play mode, where you can pick and choose what you rp and when it is. Within reason, of course. Save the silly and absurd things for the AU, if you intend to have something happen that messes with the timeline or do some cross-overs.

Once you have your person made and accepted, FEEL FREE TO START ROLEPLAYING! And don't forget the Contests and polls, and whatever else is up at the time. You can also jump in on that or some general discussions in the OOC chatterbox.

Thank you for reading through this,

Here's some helpful links, just like I promised!

http://www.realelvish.net/

This site really helped me choose nearly all my Elven names (okay all of them), and that of their weapons and horses as well. This sight also has names for your Dwarves, and Men, even orcs and whatever else.

Sindarin Phrases 101

This is a part of the above site but I thought it would be best to link it so it would be easier to access. This really helps me to make my Elves sound like they actually speak Sindarin/Quenya/etc. Not just the assumed reading/speaking in their language.

Elf Sex

This is on no way vulgar and is SFW, though it would be odd for your boss to read this over your shoulder.... so maybe not. It's not graphic it just explains how Elf society works regarding this subject, it also clarifies relationships and such. I just wish for you to play your elves correctly, so please read this. <3 (not that you will be roleplaying anything sexual here. Obviously)

YAY MORE ELF LESSONS! Okay... so I may be obsessed with Elves... hey, it's all good. So here's some more (a lot more) phrases and words to address others and talk about when you are either with an elf or are playing one. You don;t have to do this in your rp, but it makes it feel more believable.

Hey need some help on those Family tree's? Here's a program that you can use for free, if you screen capture and edit in paint and upload somewhere, and get your family tree looking professional. It's how I made mine.
