xxxxxNothing important ever seemed to happen in Rafael Reyes' life. He was quite the ordinary man, with quite the ordinary job in the city of Puebla, Mexico. That isn't to say that he liked it any, but a job was a job. The job of his dreams, just simply would not pay well enough for him to survive. Rafael wanted to be a sculptor, but he couldn't find anyone to buy his sculptures. That is, until he met a beautiful woman who took quite the interest in his art. She would pay him and take the sculptures off his hands. Eventually, Rafael fell in love with the woman. One thing led to another, and they ended up on a date, which led to the two getting a room at a local hotel. Rafael kept seeing the woman. She would buy his pieces, and they would continue on their relationship. Then came a November day where she didn't come back. Instead, there was a little baby girl. This little girl would come to be known as Altagracia Sara Reyes.
xxxxxDespite the fact that her mother seemed to have disappeared, Alta, as her father called her at times, doesn't remember not having a mother. When she was one, her father met a woman by the name of Ana Maria Vega who seemed to be in quite the similar situation. Ana Maria was a violin teacher and a performer who had met a young man and fallen in love with him, resulting in a daughter by the name of Delfina. Eventually, Ana Maria and Rafael got married, making Alta and Delfina step-sisters. However, the pair saw each other as full sisters, not caring that they had completely different parents.
xxxxxEventually, Alta and Delfina were joined by twin brothers, and two younger sisters. Life was crazy for them, and so to escape, the stepsisters would spend quite a bit of time at school, where they learned English. Alta would spend her time in the art room, drawing and painting while Delfina would play around on all the instruments she could get her hands on. Due to all of this practice, the girls got very good at what they loved.
xxxxxIt was due to their talents that the girls were invited to attend a camp for the arts all the way in New York City. Alta was twelve and Delfina was eleven when this happened. One day during the camp, there was a field trip to a forest that was a reasonable distance away. The campers were encouraged to wander about on their own, as long as they had a buddy. The stepsisters decided that it would be best if they stuck together, and so the pair set about wandering the woods. Eventually, they happened upon a sign that said Camp Half-Blood.
xxxxxCurious, the two girls walked past the sign. They had been told that there was nothing in these woods, and yet here was a camp. Then again, it might have been abandoned, which would have been great inspiration for one of Gracie, as Altagracia was called by her English speaking friends. As they continued walking, they were met by a young man who introduced himself as a camp counselor and a son of Hermes. Gracie and Delfina were confused, but as the demigod continued explaining, the pair realized that they were like him. After all, they found the camp on their own.
xxxxxSince then, Alta found out who her mother is, and Delfina found her father. At first, the sisters were summer only campers, but since Alta's recent appointment to the camp counsel, the stepsisters have been living at the camp all year. They always make sure to send letters home, and they receive quite a few care packages.
