The Great Salt Lake, or rather what's left of it after the tests run by Esthar. The once beautiful lake is left as a remnant of itself with dinosaur skeleton structures still visible. The Lake is gone, but has left a large amount of Salt on the surrounding area and the place is home to many undead monsters. Since Esthar has disappeared from the world, no one has a reason to try to traverse this wasteland of death for the most part unless they're looking for something in particular. Before getting into the Salt Lake there is a station that is outside of the salt affected area that has long since been abandoned since the tracks end there, and there's no reason to keep a station in the middle of no where functioning.

"O-okay! E-everyone take a.... a break!"

Lia very nearly collapsed to the ground as she gasped for breath. They'd been going for quite a while under the cover of darkness, making sure to put as much distance between themselves and Fisherman's Horizon as possible. They had gotten pretty far under the cover of darkness before the sun had come up, but that hadn't slowed their small little group from hurrying. They'd not wasted any time getting away from the Galbadia troops, and they were pleased to note that they weren't being followed meaning they had done good to escape, just as FH had started to get fired upon by battleships. They had reason to believe that the Galbadia forces weren't concerned with anyone who might have tried to escape along the bridge, given the number of ships that had set sail, so Lia and Eamonn had taken a bet that they could make it out safely if they took the bridge. They had been right, for the most part. And here they were, at the abandon station at the end of the tracks.

Lia finally let her legs give way, falling onto her knees as he looked up at Eamonn. "Lets not.... ever... do that... again." She said between gasping breaths. It was clear the run across the ridiculously long bridge had not been kind to her, and given the fact that the sun was high in the air, they'd been on the run for a long time. She was tired, after all she hadn't even gotten a full night of rest before all hell had broken lose and her and Ea were asked to attend to the ships leaving. Yute had disappeared ahead of them sometime ago, scouting for the group so they didn't run into trouble up ahead without knowing it, but at this point Lia could see him walking back in the distance, his little warm blaze standing out in the rather barren landscape.

Their group was not large. Lia and Eamonn made up the leaders of the group as they were the only two crazy enough to think coming this way was a good idea that wouldn't result in them, ultimately being killed by monsters. They had a few young recruits with them, probably only a year or two in training. The recruits were equipped with only light armor and simple semi-auto rifles. The Scout was also equipped with light armor, but was carrying a railgun, stock of the Resistance fighters. He barely seemed to be bothered with their long run. The sniper, Kyes, also seemed to be holding up better than the Recruits, who were panting on the ground similar to Lia. He had a long bolt action rifle, and clearly knew how to handle it by how he was taking the time to take care of his weapon as they rested. And then the Ex SeeD, Koyuki seemed to be taking care of the recruits, giving them attention to make sure their equipment was alright and everything was in order. They had a good little group with a variety of skills, but it still wasn't exactly looking good for them given what came next.

"Yute!" Lia called out in a pleased voice as the fire fox bounded into her arms, which Lia had held out. He'd taken off into a light run when he'd seen the group and Lia on the ground, concerned for her safety. She went to stroking his flame like fur as she turned her attention up at Ea with a bright smile, completely in contrast to her exhausted expression and panting earlier. "He say's there's nothing between us and the Salt Lake. But are you sure we're going to be able to make it? Yute says he can't see anything. And I don't remember where it is." Even though she seemed so pleased with Yute and herself, there was an uncertain edge to her voice. She was, of course, talking about Esthar. Her birthplace and the home she hadn't seen since she was nearly 8. Not that she could remember anything. It had been Eamonn who had told her that her home was here, because apparently she'd told him long ago in the past when they'd first met, before she'd lost those memories.

He could hear it in the distance as they ran. The muffled sounds of cannon fire and explosions. Even at a distance he could make out the occasional flash of light whenever he glanced over his shoulder, like lightning in a brewing storm. Fisherman's Horizon was gone. He was certain of that. Once it might have left a bad taste in his mouth to not have stayed and fought until the end. To help try and turn the tides of the battle, or go down fighting. But no longer. He had done his part. He had no obligations towards Unbroken or Fisherman's Horizon. He and Eliana had remained just long enough after discovering that Galbadia was preparing an assault to assist with the evacuation of the civilians and the non-combatants. Once they had all been loaded up in ships and had sailed off to Unbroken's fortress he and Eliana took their leave. The fight of Fisherman's Horizon was a lost cause, and was doomed from the beginning. Those who had stayed behind had sacrificed their lives by giving the ships the time they needed to escape. It was brave, and Eamonn commended them silently for that, but it was also suicidal. Maybe if he still hadn't had something left to do before dying he might have been willing to join them. Maybe he would have made a difference, or maybe he would have fallen just like any other. He would never know.

"We aren't out of the clearing just yet," Eamonn said, removing a canteen from his belt. "Not until we get to Esthar. Galbadia will continue to hunt for escapees until they've rounded up and executed every one of them, and they'll certainly search this bridge." If Eamonn had been winded by the run he didn't show it. In fact, standing there in his coat one might have thought that he would have felt the chill of the winter season, and yet his face wasn't so much as flushed. Nor his hands, which were ungloved and unprotected by the cold air, and looked far from cold and were most certainly not frozen stiff and clumsy as he casually unscrewed the cap to he canteen and drank from its contents. "Let's get into the station," He finally decided, replacing the canteen on his belt. "We'll rest there for a few minutes before carrying on. I want to be as far from here as possible before they send bikes after us."

Eamonn had changed. To Koyuki and the recruits they would not have been able to tell, but Eamonn had changed since the D-District Prison. Changed a great deal from the brash young man he once was. That boy would have stayed behind and fought in Fisherman's Horizon, until his body was beaten and broken and he was just another one of the many bodies piled to be burned or left for dead. Now, Eamonn was... solemn. Far more thoughtful, and no longer as impulsive and reckless as he had once been. The death of his team had definitely changed him, and, as unfortunate as it was to think, changed him for the better. But maybe it was not so much their death as it was the death of his sister, whom he had never gotten the chance to reveal his identity to. 'I should have told her from the beginning.' He had thought, regret and guilt swelling up. But it was too late for that now. She was gone, the rest of his team with her, and their killer continued to walk free.
Rage filled his mind at the thought of her. Ashe Harton, the Galbadian Soldier who had casually terminated his team, and might have killed him had Eliana not managed to somehow pull him away. She was his goal now. She was his reason for making it this far, and for not choosing to remain behind and fight to the death. So long as Ashe Harton lived and breathed, so would he. And until he got the satisfaction of seeing her eyes glaze over as death took her final breath, he had no intention of resting.

"We'll find it." He said simply, when Eliana mentioned her concern. He didn't blame her. No one had been able to find the entrance into Esthar. Many if not everyone took it for a fact that Esthar was gone. Yet Eliana, back when she still held her memories, had told him of where to find it. He had never done anything with the information. He kept it to himself, and never considered that one day he would find himself in need to find it. Yet here he was, Eliana in tow and leading a small group of people to go and find the lost nation. All the while escaping an armed military group and expecting to cross a country filled with monsters in the dead of winter. The chances didn't seem on their side, but he wasn't prepared to tell them that. "Ten minute break and then we're on the move." He said, turning away from the group and going a little ways. He was looking in the direction of the Great Salt Lake, and looking contemplative. Yute had said that there was nothing between here and the salt lake, but things would change once they got there. On the surface of the Great Salt Lake there was nothing left but canyons and wastes filled with the frozen skeletons of ancient creatures. But once they started their trek across, who knew what come creeping out.

The cold bitter sting of the air blew right on her face as she ran with the rest of the group. Darkness would cover them for only a short while, and it wouldn't be long till the sun would rise. Cuts and bruises filled her body. She had fought hard in FH but eventually she had to back out do to it being a loss cause. The amount of power Galbadia had over the resistance was more than substantial, and it was only a matter of time till what happened next took place. While running she would hear the explosions and gunfire in the background, which in turn caused her too look back and see what exactly was going on. As she suspected the entire Island was being bombarded and being reduced to rubble. In a way this reminded her of her beloved Trabia Garden. The flashback of seeing the destroyed garden filled her head, and it angered her greatly. They had yet again taken away a home she had come to love. The people there as well being erased in the blink of an eye. Koyuki gritted her teeth, and turned back towards the others not wanting to look anymore. Continuing the run time would soon fly by and the darkness no longer aided them for cover as the sun arose from the sky.

They had been running for quite awhile and got a good amount of distance away from FH. Koyuki herself definitely had a hard time breathing due to the cold icy air stinging her throat while she huffed. Everybody it seemed was taking a short break before they would head into the treacherous canyons that filled the once Great Salt Lake. The undead were known for inhabiting in that area, but surely somewhere out there was Esthar, it had to be. Eamonn had spoken about them needing to keep their guards up as he was positive Galbadia would soon be on their tales hunting them down. Sweat poured down Koyuki's face. Even though it was winter it did not keep her from getting hot. After her short small breather she began to check on the new recruits to see if their gear was all in order. They didn't have much, hell no one did. FH was attacked so fast that not much time was given to stock on magic, and equipment. Koyuki barely managed to stock up on her magic before she left, and then again she had to use some of it while in FH to aid anyone trying to escape from there. It really was a disappointment to see how many people actually did escape but it was better than none.

Eliana had sent her GF ahead to scout the area, and reported back saying that the path was clear from what she was able to hear. She seemed hesitant to enter further in, or something of the sort at least by the way she spoke. Eamonn seemed to be assured that the group would find it, and that alone made Koyuki believe they would find it. She needed to stay optimistic anyway, there was no telling what laid before them out there. With Galbadia chasing them, and this dangerous maze chances of living didn't seem high. This again would have to force her to stay optimistic for herself otherwise it would seem hopeless for them to even bother trying to go further, or even run. "We have to make it. There's no room to fail." She thought quietly to herself as she finished checking the gear on the recruits. Looking back towards Eliana and Eamonn she spoke. "Gear is in order. We don't have much, but it will last us for a bit. Everyone was in a hurry to get out that it didn't give us much time to stock up before we had to leave." She sighed. Not much was there honestly, but it would have to make due. Surviving was what was needed right now, and they would have to deal with what they had left.

Lia let out a sigh at Eamonn's response to them not being out of trouble yet. Of course, she'd just wanted to think positively about it but then Eamonn had to crush her little positive dream. She might have visibly pouted, if the situation permitted it. Instead, it was far too serious a situation for such nonsense. Eamonn decided that they would indeed take a break, which did show he at least acknowledged that Lia wasn't crazy for thinking a break was in order. Lia hugged Yute a bit tighter as she watched Eamonn though. It was an odd look, and not like her usual cheery demeanor. These were becoming more and more common, these strange passing glances of Eamonn. What they meant was uncertain though. It almost looked like she was sad, but at the same time expressed sympathy for him. She understood much of why he had changed, but it still got to her from time to time. She buried her face Yute's fur for a moment before getting up onto her feet and adjusting her bright red scarf. The thing stood out like a fire in the middle of the night in such a barren wasteland, but then again so did Yute, who literally stood out like a fire in the night.

Eamonn assured her they would find Esthar, but she still had her doubts as she watched Eamonn move away from the group and stare at into the wasteland ahead of them. 'I wish I understood him better.' she thought, staring at his back. Upon first glance, one would assume Lia and Eamonn got along well enough. After all, they'd been traveling together for almost 2 years. Except, that wasn't quite right. They had not been traveling 'together'. As nice as it sounded, that was not what it had been like. No, Lia followed Eamonn. She wasn't sure if it would even bother him if she stopped following him. He tolerated her presence and didn't send her away. She didn't know if it was because he knew she'd be lost without the last person alive who remembered part of her past, or if it was because he appreciated the assistance she could provide. He listened to her advice and all but she truly wondered just how much it would bother him if she did have to go separate ways from him.

She put on a frown for a moment, displeased with her train of thought as she put her hands on her hips and looked down at Yute. He, in return, looked up at her with a questioning glance, clearly having no idea what the young woman was getting on about. "You're supposed to stop me from thinking so grim!" She pouted to Yute, who, as best as possible, seemed to shake his head and walk off. He clearly was not amused with Lia blaming him for her own train of thought. She smiled as she watched him go though, seeing him take glances back at her to make sure she wasn't really upset. Lia, finally, turned completely around, her back to Eamonn as she gave a thumbs up to Koyuki. "It's alright! If all goes well, this shouldn't be a terribly long trip." There was an uneasy edge on 'shouldn't be'. Eamonn knew where they were going, and Lia knew it was Esthar, but she had literally no idea where it was. He'd tried, once, to re-explain where she'd described Esthar to be. And she'd just stared at him like she had no idea what he was talking about. Case and point on how her amnesia was bad.

Slipping a few steps closer to Eamonn, warming her hands in her pockets of her light jacket, she forward, so she was just in front of him enough to see her and glanced up at him, with a curious look, her hetero-chromatic eyes focusing on him intently. "How long do you think we have, before they find us and it's too late to make it to Esthar." She asked. It was entirely possibly he'd feed her a lie to keep her relaxed, but the look in her eyes suggested she wanted the truth, not what would make her happy. Her rapid swings in mood were odd, but not when you'd been around her for two years. Eamonn no doubt knew the happy, ridiculously upbeat show she was putting on was for those tailing with them. Had it just been the two of them, she probably wouldn't have bothered. Acting so upbeat made it look like she was devoid of concern, when it actually she was scared. They all had a pretty good chance of dying out here, between the monsters ahead of them and Galbadia behind them. And that thought scared her. She'd already almost died once, 2 years ago at D-District Prison, and that's how she knew the feeling in her stomach was that fear of it actually happening this time.

Even from here Eamonn could tell that the trip across the flats would not be an easy trip to make. Koyuki's report on their meager supplies made him even more sure of that, and a part of him began to doubt whether or not this was the right thing to do, or even if this would end well. Although the transformation of the lake was moderately recent, it was before his time when the supposed experiments conducted by Esthar transformed the vast body of water into what it was today. A wasteland filled with fossils of behemoth creatures even he felt fortunate to have never had the chance to meet. The sight seemed to go on for miles. There was nothing but barren whiteness as far as his eyes could see. 'We only have a few days worth of food, and barely a day's worth of water.' He thought, wondering how much they could extend that by rationing. By now most of their water would have been dehydrated, the group having to frequently drink from their flasks or canteens during the course of their run to keep from dehydrating.

'Perhaps we can make do with the snow.' But it would be slow, and Eamonn did not doubt that the barren field was now the home of various families of monsters. To travel all that distance, on pitiful supplies, possibly being pursued by Galbadia on top of having to fight monsters every step of the way? Eamonn could have laughed. 'At the very least we can expect that Galbadia won't pursue us into the canyon, or the flats.' There was nothing but death out here. They might do well to post guards at the bridge, to make sure no one attempted to cross over, but looking at this all Eamonn could see awaiting any group who was foolish enough to enter, was death. A good thing his group happened to be foolish enough to do it.

"Once we pass through the canyon we should be out of the clear, as far as the Galbadians go. They won't bother pursuing us into the flats. As well equipped as they are a small guerrilla force could easily pick them off. Besides, there's nothing out here." He replied, finally addressing Eliana's question after his long silence during his regard of what lay before them. Chances were Galbadia and the Bureau had searched this place plenty for the resistance base, so they'd know enough that there was nothing out here but waste and bones. "Alright, break over!" He called out to the group, turning back to face them. "We're going to pass through the canyons to get into the flats. I want everyone's eyes peeled and on alert. I don't want us to be taken by surprise. Arel, I want you to keep ahead and scout out for the group. If you see anything signal us appropriately and fall back. Kyes, I want you at the top of the canyon following us from above. Just be careful up there and don't slip on any ice." Or wind up in some monster's belly. "Evans, Reice, Jorde, Koyuki, you'll move us as we cross the canyon." He said, clearly including Eliana in that. "Koyuki I want you in the back bringing up the rear, Eliana and I will take point. Once we're through we'll regroup work out a course of action from there. The entrance to Esthar is out there somewhere, so let's find it before Galbadia finds us. Now move out."

The orders were simple, and the plan was mostly clear. Perhaps it was on everyone's mind as they moved to enter the Great Salt Lakes that there was no sight of Esthar anywhere. Only the skeletal remains of a once beautiful landscape turned into a graveyard. But here was to hoping, and Eamonn was nothing if not an optimist.

After she had finished her gear check up and secured what she had on her she let out a deep breath and looked out at the Great Salt Lake. "It sure is a long shot, but we have no other choice but to make it. Hope is what we have left." As she thought to herself she listened to Eliana speak asking Eamonn how long it would be till the enemy caught up, and preventing them from getting to Esthar. At first he didn't seem to respond, he seemed to be pondering about something. After waiting a few more seconds he finally responded. The answer didn't remove the worry and potential danger that awaited out there. Even if Galbadia didn't pursue they still had to deal with the monster that awaited them in the canyon. Things did really look bleak, and the chances of them living through this didn't favor at all. Honestly was it best to head out here and search for a loss city? Koyuki took that chance even if the odds were against them. She needed to trust that Eamonn would lead everyone out of this alive. Koyuki was so use to being a leader that she had forgotten what it was like to follow the lead of someone else. You had to have faith in your leader, and for Koyuki that at first was hard, but from the time she met Eamonn and had worked with him she knew that he was a capable leader.

"Break over!" Was all she heard next. So it was time to head out into the canyon. Eamonn began giving orders and formations to the team. Everyone seem to understand their order and Koyuki simply nodded to Eamonn when he told her what she was to do when they entered the canyon. Covering the rear of the group was essential, and Koyuki would have to do her best considering the potential threats that awaited in the canyon. She never once had been to the Great Salt Lake. Whatever monster that awaited her and the rest of the group would be a mystery, and that made her uneasy. Not knowing the monsters in a area is a great disadvantage considering that the weakness of the monster wouldn't be known to her. She would have to trust that she was capable of preventing any danger to the group even if she had no idea what to expect in this canyon. Soon the group began moving out into the canyon, and as soon as they left the station Koyuki felt the cold winter breeze once more. The break allowed her to cool down, and get a breather but now that she had rested the cold was more noticeable against her face. Equipped with winter gear one would think that it would help somewhat, but unfortunately it did not help her. "Once we get moving more I'm sure I will get warmed up a bit."

They made it inside the canyon, and just like she was told she followed behind the rest of the group keeping herself on high alert for any danger that might come up from the back of the group. She gripped tightly to her double bladed sword as if it was a way for her to feel secured. The canyon was quiet, and she didn't know what to expect to find here. She looked around, and nothing seemed to be there, but she had this feeling of being watched. It was burrowing inside of her skin. There must of been something out there watching them. There had to be, but then again it could of been paranoia seeping in. The only thing she felt safe too was her weapon. It was her lifeline. Nothing would keep her away from it, and if something did try it would either be dead, or she would be before she had let go of her weapon. "I can't see anything out there, but I know something is. I feel eyes being stared down at the back of my head. I wish I could tell if there was something watching us. I feel so uneasy right now." She thought as she continued cautiously behind the group.

She waited with that expectant expression on her face, leaning the entire time that Eamonn was silent. Yute, since, had wandered off to looked over the younger trainees who seemed a bit nervous around him, almost as if they expected him to burn them. A smile finally broke on her face as Eamonn answered, the girl nodding her head as if she understood. "Alright." She replied softly. It was fairly clear that Lia very much believe what Eamonn said, which was how she was with most of what he said. After all, she trusted him more than she trusted herself, and for good reason. She couldn't even remember when she'd met Eamonn, so of course she'd trust the guy who could actually say when they met. This extended into just about anything when she asked Eamonn something seriously. Yute returned to her as she stood up straight, turning her eyes to the barren wasteland. It almost looked like the two were sharing some kind of discussion, but the truth was that Yute didn't really speak. He was a rather silent companion for the girl.

Lia pulled her hands behind her back as Eamonn called the group together, telling them break was over. She listened as he gave out orders, her eyes watching the various reactions of the group. The trainees seemed really nervous. Kyes seemed very calm even though his position was one of the more dangerous ones. Having to traverse the cavern side and keep himself safe while also watching out for them, he only nodded in response, confirming that he would follow Eamonn's request. The scout, Arel, also seemed to take his job seriously, offering a brief "understood" to Eamonn before moving a bit ahead of the group. It was when Eamonn finished his briefing that Arel moved farther ahead, putting some good ground between himself and the group, but still remaining partially in sight. The sniper fell into step with the rest of them, traveling with them until it was his time to seperate. Yute silently padded along his charge, Lia, who fell into step next to Eamonn. Her sword, Liquidum, remained hanging loosely at her waist for the time being.

It was dreadfully quiet. The only sound that passed them was the sound of the wind. Beyond that, it was absolutely silent when they reached the edge of the Salt Lake, where Kyes broke off from the group and disappeared among the remains of the lake. While Kyes had disappeared, it was clear that Arel had pulled back closer to the group, though he was still leading by a good measure. This was to ensure that, as they descended into the canyon and more and more obstacles to hide monsters that might attack them on the fly, that he would both be closer for them to clearly read his signal, and also so that they wouldn't lose him as he moved from place to place ahead of them checking for targets. The trainees seemed incredibly uneasy as they descended further into the canyon and the skeletons of monsters that none of them had ever seen or faced became more prevalent. With the canyon, there wasn't much for them to worry about in ways of ledges given two sheer walls surrounded them on both sides. It was fairly clear that if they were going to get ambushed, they'd be trapped in moments. Luckily, this place seemed completely devoid of anything remotely living.

Lia pulled on her scarf faintly as she stayed close to Eamonn's side. Upon their entry to the canyon, she'd pulled her sword's sheath into her left hand, the tie that had held it to her waist released. Yute did not stray far from Lia at all, constantly at her side with his ears perked up. He seemed as uneasy as the trainees that they were leading. Up ahead, Arel moved around a bend in the canyon. Lia tugged on her scarf again before Yute suddenly let out a growl, Lia's posture getting tense quickly as she focused ahead. She barely heard it, but it sounded faintly like a bird call ahead of them around the corner. Lia glanced over at Eamonn before turning her attention forward. There weren't any birds here, so there was no way that was actually a bird. It didn't take her long to figure out it was probably Arel.

As it were, up ahead Arel was crouched behind a crack in the canyon wall. Ahead of him, there was distinct movement which seemed to have caused him to take the cover. A large hand like structure was sticking out of the ground, in the middle of the canyon. It was as unmoving as the rock structures around it after it's initial movement as Arel had gotten around the curve, but that didn't stop Arel from taking notice of it. It also seemed to shift slightly at his bird call, getting a deeper frown from Arel as he watched it. What concerned him most about it was how similar it's color was to the surrounding area. He wouldn't have even noticed it if not for the movement.

Eamonn glanced back only once at the trainees, taking note of how nervous they were. "Greenhorns." Eamonn thought, and yet he was not dismissive of them, not entirely. They had done well in helping evacuate the civilians, and all three of them were prepared to stay behind and fight to help buy time for the ships. But it was for that reason Eamonn couldn't leave them. They would have died in that battle, as surely as Fisherman's Horizon was destined to burn beneath Galbadia's might. He couldn't leave them, anymore than he could have left without seeing to the safety of the citizens. They were still young, and they still had the room and potential to grow. 'Much like them...' He thought, memories of his old team flashed through his mind. For a moment Eamonn grimaced, the red-haired man quickly suppressing the thoughts. No, these three were nothing like his old team.

Tall and mute Maia, who alternated between wielding a hefty axe no one else even bothered trying to lift and picking people up and throwing them, if not outright using them as bludgeoning weapons. She had been stalwart, and would not have been nervous in this situation. Yet she had been the first to fall before Maris, having had her attack blocked and then been subsequently kicked off of the ledge and thrown to the floors below, and not been seen again by Eamonn or Eliana. There was the cynical Clay, who spent more time gripping and complaining and making snide remarks than anything else, and yet still seemed to contribute to the work. He was intelligent, and had he lived long enough he might have made for quiet he strategist. Yet he had been the second to fall, his sword snapping like a twig in Harton's fingers before the tip of it found itself plunged into his neck. And then Avienda. Eamonn's fists were balled, his knuckles as white as the snow beneath their feet and his nails digging deep into the flesh of his palms, drawing blood. He had hated Avienda. Scorned and despised her existence, and that of her father. If not for her, and if not for him, maybe Eamonn might have lived a normal life. And yet by the end, none of that had seemed to matter. She had been the last link and connection to her, and that had made her his responsibility to protect and watch over. 'But she was the third to fall, and I should have been next.' Eamonn swallowed, chest feeling hollow for a moment.

The growl was the first indicator for Eamonn that something was up, and as soon as he came to a sudden stop and raised his hand to issue the others to come to a halt the sound of a bird's cry reached the group. It didn't take much thought to recognize the call for what it was, and putting his hands together and raising them to his mouth Eamonn imitated the call to signal that he'd heard. To the three he silently directed them with motions to stay there and keep quiet, and to Eliana and Koyuki he gestured for them to follow after him. He move quietly as he could, the soft crunch of snow beneath his boots as he rounded the bend of the canyon and saw what it was that Arel had alerted them to.

It was a lone, solitary hand. Erected in the center of the canyon path, Eamonn might have thought it a statue, or the remains of some creature it the thing didn't twitch ever so slightly. 'A monster, then?' Eamonn wondered, eyes narrowing as he stared at it. If it was he was skeptical that it would let them walk past it, which most likely meant a fight. 'I wonder if there is a way we can quietly finish this.' Fighting it meant alerting Galbadia where they were, as well as made their presence aware to every monster in the vicinity. On the other hand, going back would mean losing time, and risking running into Galbadia who might have caught up by now. And he had got a glimpse at the path surrounding the canyon pass and knew that they would move slowly trying to traverse over that terrain. No, cutting through the canyon was the only way, which meant confronting the Hand.

"Lia, Koyuki," He said softly, gesturing for them to closer and huddle so he could speak softly. "We're going to try and take this thing out quickly and quietly. I don't want to make any unnecessary noise. Lia, see if you can get behind it. I'll grab its attention and approach from the front, and we'll catch it in a pincer strike and take it out at once. Koyuki, hang back just in case, and keep a spell handy if it looks like we need support." Eamonn's hand was on the hilt of his bladed sword, slowly drawing it from its sheath and bearing its crimson red blade. It seemed like a sound strategy. He didn't know which side was its front, or how it could sense them, but he was hoping that between his frontal approach and Eliana using Flash to get behind it that they would be able to catch and end it here before they drew too much attention. 'Let's just hope things go that smoothly.' He thought, looking Eliana in the eye and silently giving her the 'Go' before moving out from behind the cover and rushing the hand.

She had only offered a brief sideways glance at Eamonn, seeing his tense posture before she'd looked ahead and continued. She might have asked him what was wrong if not for there being the others around. He wouldn't want to be bothered with them around. She decided this, weither it be true or not. She had continued along silently. It wasn't until the whistle and Yute's growl that both Lia and Eamonn turned back to focusing on the task at hand. Lia held her weapon tightly as Eamonn returned the whistle, motioning for the trainees to stay behind. Lia glanced back at them before looking down at Yute. The fire fox looked at her seriously before offering a faint incline of his head. Lia fell into step directly behind Eamonn, Yute trailing a few behind her as they moved around the bend. It didn't take much observation to see what the scout had located, a hand like structure jutting out of the ground. Lia didn't see it move, but judging by the low growl behind her, Yute had.

Lia glanced up at Eamonn as he said her name, shifting closer to hear what he had to say. His instructions were simple, and a plan she was familiar with. It was one they'd used before given her ability to use Flash. It wasn't exactly subtle, but it wasn't what they were looking for right at this moment. She slowly crept a step out, taking a crouched position. Eamonn no doubt knew flash required her to start moving first, so this was likely to be a very disorientating experience for the monster. She turned her eyes to Eamonn, waiting for the signal. Yute, behind her, was crouched down too. They were ready.

Realm of Avatar

She bolted. She got up to speed in only a few steps, and then she was gone, but the hand had jerked as soon as she had moved in the direction she had been coming from. Eamonn had given the signal and her movement had literally occurred nearly at the same time. There was a blur as she seemed to disappear, reappearing behind the hand, sliding on the ground as she dug her feet in, clearly changing direction. Yute appeared next to doing the same thing. The two completely reversed their momentum in a second and moved to strike, Lia's hand reaching down to draw her sword and strike it as Eamonn approached. And that was when the entire plan broke down. A second hand flew in from the side and grabbed Lia's leg. She let out a surprised yelp before she was thrown away, impacting the wall with a cry, hitting the ground on her side before forcing herself up onto her feet as she shifted back. Yute had dove to attack the hand that had hit her, but he was batted away with it as the ground ruptured, exploding upwards.

"Yute, Back!" She called out, pulling her sword free from her sheath as she watched as the owner of the two hands revealed itself. The Monster, though she knew not what it was, was massive, and they could only see it's upper body. She wasn't even sure how to describe it, aside from a humanoid looking monster. "Plan?" Lia called to Eamonn as she darted to the side as it swung a fist for her. It was easily large enough to hit them if they remained standing in the canyon. Yute was darting around it's back side while Lia was moving to avoid it's massive reach. It's other hand, the right, swung out at the approaching Eamonn, if he was stilling planning on approaching it. "Water, charge." Her sheath flashed blue.

Koyuki followed the group still keeping a look out for any potential danger. So far nothing seemed to appear and all was well. That was until a bird call was heard. Koyuki looked up confused. "A bird call? Out here?" She soon spot a figure. It must of been Arel. Then came the growl from Eliana's Guardian Force. That immediately lit up signals inside of Koyuki's head. Her hand tightly gripped onto her weapon more so then before. Knowing there was something up she had to be ready to fight, and that weapon was something she relied on. Eamonn halted everyone, and glanced around the corner. So it seemed there was a monster over there, and Eamonn began issuing orders to Eliana and to her. After he finished speaking Koyuki simply responded with one word."Understood." She didn't prefer to just sit back but Eamonn knew what he was doing, and probably thought it best to try and quickly take the creature out with the least amount of noise, and little casualty. She stood ready to cast a spell if needed.

She watched as Eliana began to move, and as soon as she did the monster moved its hand, only to have Elina dodge it. However as soon as she did another hand came from the ground and smacked Eliana. Koyuki nearly began to run towards the monster to aid Eliana, but she remembered what Eamonn had ordered her to stay back as support, and cast spells. As soon as she saw Eliana get up and get ready to attack as it seemed Koyuki shouted out and raised her hand outwards towards Eliana. "Protect!" Suddenly a light shield would appear in front of Eliana. "Hopefully that will protect her from any major damage that thing could dish out. I don't want to be here any longer than we have too." She thought to herself. She wasn't sure on how to approach this monster in battle, but then again all she was to do was cast spells. This monster had to have a weakness to something, or somewhere on him. She looked at it more closely, but nothing came to mind, she had never seen a monster like this before, and it seemed really pissed that they had entered its region.

She looked over to Eamonn. She couldn't tell if he was about to do something or not, but Eliana however seemed to have a plan on something. She had casted a spell earlier, but Koyuki didn't see the spell hit anything, in fact she just saw the spell go inside the sword. "A clever invention, but what exactly does it do? I honestly want to see how it is used. I have never seen the likes of this weapon before." She was somewhat intrigued to Eliana's weapon, still however paying attention to the monster waiting for it to strike. She wasn't sure what this thing could do, but hopefully she would be ready for it. Eamonn didn't looked worried though it seemed, keeping his composure against this large creature. Not many could be like that.

"Eliana!" Eamonn shouted, watching in what may have been shock, horror, or surprise as the ground suddenly erupted beneath Eliana and Yute and a second hand appeared to fling Eliana against a wall of the canyon and the other dismissively batted Yute away. Regretfully, Eamonn cursed to himself silently. Of course it was too much to ask or expect that things would go smoothly. It had been a trap, a rather clever one, and they had fell for it sorely. If they had been fish, and this hand the lure, the thing which revealed itself now from up out of the earth would have been the anglerfish that they were meant to wind up in the belly of. The monster was massive enough that it practically blocked off their path through the canyon, effectively cutting off their only way forward. But now they had no way back, as if there had been pursuit than no doubt they would have heard and now knew where his team was. 'Damn it, this wasn't supposed to happen.' He thought, cursing. Now they were caught between a rock and a hard place, almost literally. Thankfully Eliana and Yute seemed to be alright, the two quickly recovering, Eliana looking to him for instruction.

"Same plan as before!" Eamonn barked, somersaulting over the hand of the gargantuan monster as it swung out to catch him, midleap lashing out with his sword. He tried to be precise with his cut, aiming for what would have normally been a tendon in a hand with the hopes of disabling it, but there wasn't much room to be dexteritous as he leapt through the air over the hand. Besides, when had monsters, even semi-human ones, ever followed the rules of what was normal?
He hit the ground rolling, instantly leaping to his feet and returning his focus to the monster, prepared for another evasive maneuver in case it tried to do a follow up attack. On the off-chance that it didn't, Eamonn would have raised his own hand, aiming specifically for the chest of the monster that was broad as the side of a barn and as easy a target that a half-blind child with a stick could have hit it even at this distance. "We take this thing out and get as far away from here as possibe. Fira!" The explosion of black and crimson flames would have enveloped its chest, hopefully spreading to its head and blinding it momentarily. Enough to buy them some time to prepare a proper attack.

He needed to get instructions out to the others. He needed Kyes to keep an eye on their backs, to look out for any approaching Galbadians, or monsters to flank them. Arel he hoped would have the sense to stay out of the fight and keep and eye out from any other monsters in the area who might try to join in on the festivities. And the trio of recruits... he just hoped that they didn't do anything rash, and would be smart enough to at least stay out of harms way if they tried to get involved. He wasn't sure how much gunfire would do against this thing, but the noise of the shots would surely have this place swarming. Then again, maybe it was too late for subtleties. With any luck Koyuki would keep up with support. The flash of light that enveloped Eliana gave Eamonn one less thing to worry about, knowing that she would at least remain safe. But so long as this thing was here and in the way they still had a fight on their hands.

It was probably in Koyuki's best interest to have no struck at the thing as so far it didn't seem interested in her. The protect spell was well recieved, but Lia couldn't take the time to wave or say anything considering the seriousness of their situation. Lia only nodded her head as she heard Eamonn's comment on the plan. It was easy enough to go along with even if this thing had them at range and power. She continued to move as Eamonn approached. The monsters wide swing had failed to connect, and in fact Eamonn took the moment to tear through it's flesh, not that it seemed really hindered by this as it stopped it's outwards swing. Eamonn had time to fire off his spell, but the hand lashed back in, clearly seeking to grab him and smash him into the ground. It let out a bestial roar as the flames hit it, only seeming to ignite it's anger further.

It hadn't forgot about the girl trying to get around to it's side though, swinging it's other hand in with surprising speed and grabbing a hold of her scarf that fluttered behind her as she ran. It had thought this would be an easy target, and had made a terrible mistake. Eamonn had probably seen what had happened the last time someone had tried to touch that scarf with intent to harm her, so it wouldn't be a surprise to him as flame seemed to burst alive on the scarf, the monster pulling it's hand back with alarm as Lia snapped back with her sword, the blade clearing through it's tough skin before it swung it's hand down to smash her. The girl nimbly skipped away, the scarf still burning on it's edges like fire. The scarf was a gift from Yute, and like most GF items was more than useful. It kept her warm in the cold, reduced flame damage from fire spells, and also caught fire when someone tried to grab it thinking the piece of clothing would be a liability. It had the consistency of flame when on fire, so it wasn't any surprise that grabbing a hold of the scarf was impossible. It was rather similar to the fox itself.

"Water, Charge." The sheath flashed again as Lia ran in, trying to get inside the range of it's arms. The smoke from the fire attack seemed to have not done a whole lot, making Lia wonder if it even used those eyes it seemed to have in it's head. She immediately regretted looking up at them. It was staring right at her, and in that moment, it felt like her entire body had been hit with a truck. She seemed to falter for a moment, a haze like effect spreading around her. "Yute!" The fox barely made it in time, tackling her from the side as the hand she had just attacked tried to grab her. She hit the ground rolling, her movements seeming sluggish and slow compared to normal. "Eamonn! Don't look at it's eyes!" She warned. She had no idea what had just happened, but she felt like death, and she hurt inside. She could only speculate, meeting it's gaze was what had caused it.

Yute was standing over her, his flame like body alight. The monster, seemingly satisfied that Lia was down for the moment, turned it's full focus on Eamonn, however, between it's swing to grab him and the time it had taken to attack Lia, it had focused most of it's attention on her, leaving it open for Eamonn to strike.

Behind Koyuki, with the sound of fighting, the recruits had approached, looking to the ex SeeD for instructions. Kyes appeared to make no effort to join in the fight. Arel also offered a glance from his cover to Koyuki. None of them seemed comfortable watching Lia and Eamonn fighting on their own against the thing with support from Koyuki, but training still persisted and they were waiting for commands from the one person who still was able to give them while Eamonn and Lia were busy fighting.

Eamonn was prepared when the hand came around for a second swing, purposely putting his back to the canyon wall to draw it closer to him. When it nearly was upon him, he leapt again, making use of the canyon wall to clear the hand. He was even more careful to dodge this time, betting that it would try and trip him up and make an unexpected move. But when he got around it, he didn't waste a moment's time to give it the chance to draw it hand back. Gripping his sword in both hands, he shouted as he lunged forward and rammed the blade through the back of the hand. He continued to press on with his charge, shouting as he did, until his weapon pieced through the back of its hand and pushed all the way through its palm. Once the blade had pierced the initial thickness of its skin it was only a matter of pushing the rest of the blade all the way through. He did not stop with just skewering the hand though, and his action had a purpose. Imbedded in the wall of the canyon was the large, skeletal remains of some other gigantic monster that he roamed these waters long ago. It was there he aimed his blade and the hand, forcing his blade into the bones in an attempt to pin the creatures hand to the skeleton. If it worked, it would buy him some time. If it didn't, then he just lost Acris for a stupid attempt. He jumped back from the hand, looking forwards Eliana to see how she was doing. She was handling herself well, as he would expect from her if these last two years were anythin to attest to her abilities. Which means he would have a moment to do what it was that he wanted to do. So standing in the center of the canyon, he folded his arms and closed his eyes and began to concentrate.

Crimson Flames

Immediately there was some effect, the air that surrounded Eamonn seeming to warp and darken, occasional sparks of flame licking the air. Suddenly, black fire erupted around him, traveling in a circle of flames that looked almost like a protective barrier. The flames continued to move, marking out what appeared to be a magic circle, complete with sigils and runes. And when it was completely, the flames shot upwards, engulfing Eamonn in black fire until it seemed to reach upwards for the sky. If the hand had managed to unpin itself from the bones, and reach for him again, it would have been sorely sorry. The black flames receded. Not dying down like normal flames, but lowering themselves slowly almost like attendents bowing before their master. And where Eamonn had stood alone a second figure had appeared, standing in a similar position to Eamonn, eyes closed and expression even more grim than Eamonn's. It stood a good two heads taller than Eamonn, and as it unfolded its wings, the color of dried blood and rust, the tips of each wing nearly brushed with the sides of he canyon walls.

"Aed," Eamonn said, almost tiredly as he opened his eyes and lifted his hand. "Burn." Eamonn snapped his finger, and the Guardian Force broke into a grin. There was an explosion of crimson-black flames once more, even greater than the fira spell Eamonn had cast earlier that struck the creature and engulfed its torso, head, and shoulders to hopefully blind and cause it pain and damage. It was a firaga spell that now burned at its flesh, although no sooner had it been cast Eamonn used one of his own precious firagas to follow it up with a second blast of fire to further beat back at the monster. With the creatures attention now focused on itself, Aed beat its wings and took to flight, moving over the monster --hopefully beyond its reach-- to settle in the canyon pass behind it which the monster had all but blocked off. It could turn around to face Aed, exposing itself to Eamonn and his team, or remain focused on them and be slowly roasted alive from behind.

Meanwhile at the front, Eamonn focused his attention on Eliana again. "Lia, get back!" He shouted, waving his arm. She was too close to it, and he didn't like the prospect of her getting caught between Aed and his barrage of fire attacks. But something was wrong. 'Don't look at its eyes?' Something had happened that he wasn't seeing. "Arel, Kyes, on the look out! I don't want monsters or Galbadia sneaking up behind us while we're dealing with this thing! Recruits," What did he have them do? "Focus fire on the monster but don't look at its eyes! When you hear the warning cry for Galbadia from Kyes I want you to focus your attention behind us and shoot at anything that moves and is flying Galbadian colors!" He shouted the orders as loudly and quickly as he could, before taking a chance to rush forward and get to Eliana.

It seemed that this monster wasn't going to be taken down lightly. The fira spell seemed to not effect it much, and in fact it seemed to just piss it off even more. As soon as Eliana tried running at the monster with an attack but then immediately was effected by something from the monster. It was only after a split second that her GF saved her from being grabbed by the creature. She immediately warned Eamonn to not look at its eyes. "It's eyes? This thing can hurt us with it's eyes? I'm afraid of what else this thing was capable of. This thing isn't going to make it easy for us." This was just getting worse by the second. Koyuki had to keep up on the spells so she once again aimed at Eliana and shouted. "Cure!" The spell would take effect as the light appeared around Eliana. Hopefully she would recover somewhat from some of the damage brought to her. Eamonn on the other hand was now doing his best fighting the monster alone.

Looking back Koyuki noticed the recruits now ready to fight. as they too gathered and aimed their weapons at the monster. As soon as she looked back at Eamonn he had already begun an attack on the creature. Though he was very agile avoiding any damage from it. He then impaled his sword into the creature's hand and pinned it against the canyon wall which had a large dead creature in it. He was really strong to just slam the blade right through the creature's hand and then forced its hand into the wall. She then watched as a sudden amount of black flames sprouted beneath him. Then symbols began to form beneath him. He was summoning his GF, and not too long after it made its appearance when the black flames had receded. Its wings were massive, and this thing was really tall as well. Eamonn ordered it to attack, and it did so with a black flame engulfing the upper portion of the beast's body, and Eamonn then followed up with his own firaga spell. It was quite a site to see. That had to have damaged the creature greatly, and if not, everyone would be in great trouble.

Koyuki then readied herself. If this creature recovered from the attack, she would have to start focusing an attack on it. Eamonn then began to order the recruits to begin firing on the monster. As soon as he gave that order the recruits immediately began to fire. Unsure of whether or not it would do damage, but it was better than nothing hopefully. Koyuki wasn't enjoying staying back in the fight, but for the better she continued to listen to Eamonn's orders. She wasn't the leader of the group. It wasn't the issue of authority, she had no issue following an order from someone. It was the fact that she was so use to being a leader to a squad group that it was instinctive to plan out and give formations to others. How she missed her squad. They were friends, and good ones at that. Taken away by Galbadia, along with her home. Anger was building up inside of her again. "Galbadia will pay. Every last soldier, or anyone affiliated with them will have their blood be drawn from my blade." Once she looked back to the fight with the creature her anger shifted to it. She was more than ready to strike the creature, but still didn't budge, and instead she was ready to begin casting a spell right at the creature.
