The patrol had begun simply enough. A quick tour around the park, a half-hearted peek at the school and then she’d started home, more than ready to jump into bed and leave the rest of the night to other senshi.
Aludra took a peek at the sky, where the eclipse still hung ominously. She wasn’t one to think too hard about it. It was making all the neighbourhood dogs crazy, but other than that, she saw no reason to worry. As for the strange dark bunny that had flown down and touched her, well, whatever it meant she was sure it wasn't bad.
It was with that thought still in mind that Aludra suddenly came face to face with herself.
Having just landed in the middle of the street, Aludra stared at the girl in front of her. They stood there only a second before the other her charged. Aludra was too busy trying to work out how exactly she had a copy to even think about evading.
The two went down in a tumble of arms and legs. Powers be damned; biting, scratching and hair-pulling was the order of the day.

The lunar eclipse overhead was both unnatural and unnerving. That, together with the news that had the entire of Destiny City abuzz as of late, had just about everyone on edge, the streets virtually devoid of any civilians Amethyst had any hope of draining energy from as he made his rounds about the city. He too hadn't any idea as to what the doubles were all about really. Perhaps an elaborate form of sorcery that the Order Senshis had been working on as of late?
Intelligence hadn't any leads thus far as far as he could tell from the database that the branch maintained. That in addition to the apparent lack of any standing order from his commanding officers meant that they were pretty much on their own as far as he was concerned which likely didn't bode well. Walking down the street, the Negaverse Lieutenant checked a couple of the side alleys to see if he would have any luck in chancing upon a drunkard or two. Those tend to be easy targets and he had discovered from his own previous experiences that he could easily hit his monthly quota over the course of just one weekend alone if he got up a little earlier to look at the right places in the wee hours of the morning.
Still nothing.
He sighed, about to call it a day and start heading back when he felt the little blip on his inner radar that could only belong to a Chibi Senshi like Aludra. It wasn't far by any means, just a couple of blocks down from his current location and he started jogging towards it, picking up his pace as soon as he saw the tussle between Aludra and... Aludra, his confusion over what he had just borne witness to apparent on his face as he tried to separate both girls as best as he could with his arms and even his own body as a last resort. "Aludra! What's... going on here?"
Ruriska This ought to count as a battle perhaps..? ^^

She was losing. Despite her desperate flailing, her intent was to get away and her attacker’s intent was far more sinister. More than once hands wrapped around her throat before she managed to pry them off, but she was getting weaker by the second. Aludra had never been in this sort of situation before. When someone finally intervened, she nearly burst into tears from gratitude. She scurried back out of reach of her other self but couldn't seem to get her legs to stop wobbling, so she simply sat on the pavement and held back sobs. Her other self didn't seem at all deterred and struggled violently against the Lieutenant holding her back, hissing and making odd sounds. It was only then that Aludra recognised her saviour and now she did start crying. "Amethyst, what is this thing? I-it just attacked me and… and… make it go away!" baby_gwing I wasn't sure. x3 Changed the title.

With his hands literally full with a struggling Aludra clone that he had managed to successfully separate from said Chibi Senshi, Amethyst was finally able to observe for himself the greyish appearance and the bizarre behaviour which distinguished it clearly from the green-haired Chibi Senshi. It flailed its arms and legs, still trying to get to her although he was clearly obstructing its intended path of travel. Almost as if it was ignoring his existence on purpose.
That was queer.
"I don't know for sure Aludra. But whatever it is, I'm not going to let it come anywhere near you." He attempted to reassure the distressed younger Senshi in spite of his own cluelessness at the entire situation as well, his lips pressed in a thin line at the sound of her crying that tugged at his heart strings as he pulled back his arm and punched the clone squarely in its chest with as much force as he could muster in the hope of deterring its advances.

The shade of Aludra continued to struggle, straining against Amethyst until his first found its chest. The force of the blow toppled the creature back and it hit the pavement with a solid ‘thump’. Clearly winded, it clutched at its chest and snarled, without ever making a sound. Aludra watched, one hand already wiping away her tears. It was strange to see a version of herself being treated like that, even if it had just been attacking her. With everything that had happened lately, she wondered if Amethyst would ever do that to her. "That’s enough... don’t hurt it anymore." She really just wanted it to go away.

Being an adult and knowing what these clones were capable of should they be allowed to have their way with things, Amethyst had no qualms at all with exterminating the clone and permanently ending its existence had Aludra not explicitly forbade him from doing so. He frowned, his back to the Chibi Senshi still though he allowed his head to briefly turn to offer her a wry smile as he informed her of his opinion in the hope of changing her mind on the matter.
"... not a course of action that I'll highly recommend given that people have been seriously hurt because of these clones but... alright." He had a really bad feeling that his present decision to go with Aludra's wish to spare the clone's life would return to bite him hard on his a** some day if not immediately, a part of him still hopeful that she would trust his judgement and reconsider her decision so as to ensure her own safety.
Returning his attention to the clone, he glared at it, his heart still racing in his chest as he readied himself to intercept it should it try to make a move towards Aludra again. "Aludra's life is not yours to take. Not tonight. Not ever. You'd better tell whoever put you up to this to desist your efforts or there'll be consequences."

Despite Aludra’s wishes, the clone clearly wasn't going to deterred by a single blow the stomach. It had rolled over to its knees and was making an angry hissing noise. It did not take any notice of Amethyst or his little speech, and the Lieutenant may as well have been talking to a statue for all the attention it gave him. Aludra was also doubting her decision but she didn't say a word, just watched and repeated the same phrase in her mind over and over, ‘please stay down’. The young girl didn't know how to cope when faced with a violent copy of herself. If it didn't just give up, somebody would have to really hurt it and Aludra had never wanted anything in her life to come to that. She was only now really beginning to realize that was all part of being a senshi. You couldn't escape the violence. The clone got its feet, swaying back and forth before steadying. It lifted a hand in a beckoning gesture, smiling wickedly at her true self. “The One-“ “That’s my attack!” Aludra shrieked, trying to cover her ears. “… Path.” Then it turned to leap away, with Aludra unable to do anything but scramble to her feet and follow. A path unfolding just for her.

So it seemed that the likeness of the clone compared to the original individual was not limited to just physical appearances alone. Amethyst realized when he witnessed firsthand Aludra's clone using her own magic against her so as to compel her to follow it. This didn't bode well at all. He debated the various options he had, quickly opting for a more direct yet at the same time less confrontational approach that he went about putting into action.
Jogging after the pair, he stretched out his hand and closed his fingers around Aludra's wrist as soon as she was within reach, his other arm curling around her waist before he tried to pull her towards him and into an embrace to keep her from going after her alone. "This's the only thing I could think of other than tailing you both to wherever she wants you to follow her to. Sorry..." He mumbled an apology, the last thing he wanted being the Chibi Senshi mistaking his intentions from his choice of actions that were carried out with the intent of thwarting her clone's plan.

The shade kept moving even with Aludra tucked safely away in Amethyst’s embrace. Aludra stared after the beckoning pathway for only a moment more before she blinked free of its hold. The distraction had been enough. She shut her eyes firmly, finding nothing strange about the hug and in fact, leaning into it for support. The clone soon realized her prey was not following how she was supposed to and stopped a good distance off, stomping a foot down in obvious annoyance. "She's going to come back..." Aludra said wearily, eyes still closed as if that might make the dark chibi simply go away.

Keeping his gaze on the shade the entire time, Amethyst nodded at Aludra's words, knowing what she said to be true. "It doesn't matter. I'm not handing you over to her no matter what." He tried to reassure her. A somewhat empty promise given how little he knew about the clones and how they worked. Even if he managed to stop it from carrying out its plan tonight, there still remained the problem of ensuring Aludra's safety if it kept coming after her and he dreaded what might happen if she had to face it on her own the next time.
Of course he could act on his own accord and kill it. Put a permanent end to the problem once and for all. A voice in his mind supplied him with the answer and then followed it up with its reasoning. After all, wasn't it the duty of an adult to carry out the necessary so as to protect children like her who weren't supposed to be part of the war that they had probably been unknowingly initiated into? Sweet little Aludra wouldn't be able to bring herself to exterminate the shade even if it came down to that in order to ensure her own survival.
As much as he wasn't keen on the idea of killing another, much lest have her witness it when it happened, Amethyst would step up to the task and see it through in the end so long as it was for a greater good that he believed in. "... I'll kill her if I have to."

"... I'll kill her if I have to."Of course, her brain supplied, what other option was there? Aludra was horrified and she wrapped her arms around Amethyst’s where they held her, to stop him from moving away. Since their first meeting she had seen a lot of things, met more people and witnessed destruction. The Negaverse had shown her the opposite side of Amethyst and his kindness. She’d been lucky and hadn't come to great harm but others had fought to protect her and had not fared so well. She wanted to shout at Amethyst about it, wanted to stamp her foot and demand he explain how he could be apart of something with such horrible people. But this wasn't the time. Right now he was the only thing stopping her double from taking her down and she knew that if the shade got her in her grips one more time, she wouldn't be able to save herself. "I'm tired," she murmured softly. "But I’ll just keep running... it’s okay..." Until it disappeared or she couldn't run anymore. The shade was approaching again, gaze locked on Aludra. Or maybe, maybe it was just a demon. Another creature of evil sent to hurt people. It wouldn't matter if it died. Even if it looked just like her. Surely it would be better if she could just get rid of it. Aludra had said she would run, but she didn’t budge, just stood and waited. "Okay."

Amethyst frowned at Aludra's words and the logic behind them. Running was definitely not a solution at all to the problem that was her clone that was coming relentlessly at her with a murderous intent. He wanted to reason with her, help her see just what was exactly at stake if she somehow slipped up and found herself at its mercy. That there would be no second chances for her if it had its way ultimately.
The protest died on his lips as soon as he heard her relent and agree to go with what he had in mind however. "Alright. Let's do this then." He had no idea as to what gave rise to the sudden change in mindset in the Chibi Senshi's part, a solemn expression on his face as he slowly guided her to turn with his hands so that she now faced him and had her back to her clone. "I'll take care of things from here. Close your eyes and your ears, stay where you are until I come back for you. Okie?"
He allowed his eyes to briefly make contact with hers, a small smile curling his lips as he lifted a hand to pat her head to reassure her that everything would be alright in the end. And with that he went around her, taking a few steps towards the still approaching figure as he promised himself that he would not let her down nor stop until her double was eliminated by his hands. Permanently.

"Okay," she said again. Aludra did as she was asked, eyes falling closed. The young girl pressed her hands against her ears and began to hum the tune of 'Mary had a Little Lamb'. If she didn't have to see, didn't’t have hear; everything would be fine. The clone apparently decided Aludra’s new position looked extremely enticing and darted forward, putting all its speed into reaching the chibi senshi. It didn't even look at Amethyst and went to rush past him as he if he wasn't even there.

And still Aludra's clone chose to ignore Amethyst entirely, even when he placed himself directly between Aludra and it. Amethyst couldn't help but notice, determined to not let the Chibi Senshi who had placed her trust and faith in him down as he moved to intercept her aggressor.
He swung his arm out at it the moment he was within reach, making a grab for its fuku before he tried to force it back with his strength and momentum. "You're not going anywhere near her. Not while I'm here."

The clone wasn't even looking at Amethyst when he reached out. The creature was grabbed and tugged, stumbling backwards. Only then did it finally truly look at the Negaverse agent, giving a strange inhuman hiss. Not that it stopped the shade's focus for long. It simply lashed out with one arm and kept trying to go forward. Aludra had moved onto 'Ring Around Around the Rosy'.
