Name: Margaret Anne Wrenne
Preferred Name: Maggie
Age: 22
Gender: female
Occupation: She works and lives in Oldcastle as a healer, helping any who come to her door whether they can pay or not.
Appearance
Appeared Age: Early twenties
Height: On the short side of average
Weight: On the heavy side of medium
Build: Sturdy
Skin Color: Pale with freckles. LOTS of freckles; she spends too much time outdoors for it to be otherwise.
Eye Color: Bright, clear green
Hair Style: Long braid
Hair Color: Dark-ish red
Fashion: None whatsoever. That is, she prefers sturdy, practical dresses of the sort that will survive an excursion into the Wardwood. Her clothes are neatly and oft-mended; the life of a rural healer doesn't make for much in the way of wealth. She favors tough, thick leather boots that are decidedly unladylike, but nevertheless provide ample protection for her herb-gathering trips.
Personality
Base Alignment: Neutral Good
Personality description: Headstrong, but smart enough not to let it get her into trouble. Usually. She's been described by others as stubborn, opinionated, unladylike, and gruff. While she isn't unkind to those who don't deserve it, her bedside manner often leaves something to be desired. She considers herself to be practical and strong.
Abilities and Powers
She is a hedge-witch and gifted in the healing arts. Nine tenths of this is common sense and a nigh encyclopedic knowledge of herbs and their uses, but there's a little bit of straight-up magic too, accomplished with exacting attention to the phases of the sun, moon, and stars and the season, together with blessings from the Wardwood which she believes empowers her work.
Equipment
Nothing special. She usually has a small knife for herb-gathering tucked somewhere on her person, and other than her rugged clothing is oft seen with a basket or satchel for her herbs tucked under one arm.
Brief Biography: Maggie grew up in the town of Oldcastle where she learned herblore and magic at her mother's and grandmother's knee. Her father is rumored to have been a sailor that her mother met on her one excursion to Palisade. Those both uncharitable and superstitious souls claim he was actually one of the Wardwood's Spirits as part of a dark bargain to obtain forbidden powers, but those with any sense put no stock in such things- including Maggie herself.
Always a bit of an odd duck, Maggie nevertheless kept a few friends growing up. Some have moved away, joined the army, etc, and some remain, the ones who can stand her mannish behavior and unfortunate tendency to run off at the mouth when her temper gets the better of her. She now lives in a little stone cottage on the outskirts of town with a milk goat, her aging mother, and her herb garden.
Given the Queen's recent edict about the legitimacy of Guardians and hedge witches, she is tempted to reveal her talents- but so far Maggie has remained cautious. For a very long time it hasn't been quite safe, and she's not sure that one proclamation by a young- and according to rumor unwell- Queen could make such a sweeping change. The minds and hearts of the populace, she believes, will be slower to accept, and she has decided to see how things play out before letting others in on her secret.
Friends: Allison Driscoll (Nyx)
Family: Maggie lives with her mother, whose arthritis makes her a very cranky old witch indeed. Maggie learned all of her magic and herblore from the woman, and now tends to her in her dotage. She never knew her father, and her mother's relatives mostly live out of town or have passed away.
