Personality: Carroll is, for lack of a better term, enigmatic. It isn't because he talks so little, or perhaps too much even, but more in the way he speaks. He has a somewhat cheerful attitude, even when seeming glum, as if he emphasizes his own emotions to the point of making each and every individual feeling he has easily recognizable. Still, the questionably sane persona that lies on the surface masks a well of potential. He has proven himself intelligent and observant enough to actually make a living as an adviser to the Gotei Thirteen Captains. And while his position as an adviser may leave some things to be desired by others, Carroll refers to it as "a pretty good retirement plan." This is because he's had his fill of a Captaincy before retiring to a position that took him mostly away from the violence of the Gotei Thirteen's military might.
There is one thing though, that could be said about Carroll. His primary motives almost always seem to be in the benefit of the Gotei Thirteen, even if it may not be immediate. However, his slightly unnerving smile could be a sign of a snake in the grass, or perhaps just poor luck. With a defining "definitely not unpleasant" attitude, Carroll finds himself on good, if not shaky, terms with others. Between his semi-sane comments and advice and the way he speaks, it is hard to say whether one could fully trust him or not, even though his results tend to be impressive enough to wipe away such doubts.
However, a look into its past may cause one to doubt exactly how sane the man is. He refers to the Seireitei and everything around it as "Wonderland" and hasn't ever really referred to it any other way. Additionally, a look through his library (and the ability to read the books in it) reveal he has a noticeable obsession, if not compulsion, to associate everything to the Lewis Carroll stories involving Alice's Adventures Underground and Through the Looking Glass. It even suggests to others that Lewis Carroll is in fact not his real name. Even more disturbingly, it also shows the possibility that he doesn't have a solid grasp on reality, regardless of his own strengths, and its always a good thing to include the state of his mind into anyone's plans involving him.
Sexual Preference: Straight
Family: None
Background:
Lewis Carroll is not the Lewis Carroll of international fame. He was born with a different name, and died in the same city as the famous author, but never once met the man in person. They were born in different eras, such a thing would be impossible. As a matter of fact, Carroll remembers next to nothing about his life before death, which is why he can't remember his own name. What he does remember was his home town and a small bit of his personal details. He had a fascination with books that lasted his whole life. In Carroll's child hood, the joy was simple. It became more complex, deeper as he grew. As a young teen, he found himself spending more time in a library rather than on a sports field or gymnasium. He enjoyed his books so thoroughly, especially a first edition copy of Alice's Adventures Underground and Through the Looking Glass.
When Carroll passed away peacefully in his sleep, the first thing he saw as a soul was the book. His mind was so hazy. He couldn't even remember what day it was, let alone the year or the month. He hadn't a clue how long he had been out. And although he didn't know it, the fact that his body wasn't in his room meant some time had passed. However, it apparently hadn't been too long. His favorite book still laid upon his desk. Confused still, when he made out the words on the book's cover, he thought Lewis Carroll was his own name, and took it as such. He proceeded to carry on and make his way east. The teenage soul remembered from his fractured thoughts that he had family in that direction. It didn't take long for Carroll to realize he found himself unaffected by the world he was obviously apart of. There were some rules though. He found them through experience mostly. The last rule he learned, is that he was not alone. Aside from the other souls he passed, many of whom cowered away, he was found by a man in black, a being that was referred to as a Shinigami. Although Carroll did not know all the rules of this new world he was a part of, he allowed the man to do his job and send him to a place with a name he could not pronounce. Instead, upon arriving and seeing the glorious white walls of the Seireitei, Carroll declared himself to have been dragged into a book, and he was staring at the realm he called "Wonderland."
Shortly after arriving, the Shinigami had planned to leave Carroll, but the soul would have none of it. He followed the Shinigami, even after being threatened, and only stopped when the Gate Keeper stopped him from entering the Gotei's land. He wasn't deterred. Watching others, Carroll learned he could gain access by basically showing off. Not surprisingly, that's exactly what the boy did. He recreated a trick he saw someone else do, make a beach ball sized sphere of glowing light. He found the trick easy, and even showed that he could change, maintain, and wholly dissipate the ball. Sure enough, he was drafted.
In his brief time in Shino Academy, Carroll learned the language, lost his accent, which had been unusual to everyone else, and learned some new tricks. While his sword play was fair, his control over his own reiryoku astounded many of his teachers, given his age as a soul. He always told them it was extremely easy, and that in "Wonderland" simply thinking an impossible act more or less made it happen. He had a long journey through the ranks too. Carroll climbed the ladder extremely slowly, despite being something akin to a reiryoku prodigy. It turned out that his issue was the amount of reiryoku he had, and consequently, without further refinement, he would sit as a lowly, but seated, individual. Taking the challenge, Carroll practiced his control and refinement of his own reiryoku to an extent that was rare for even the most expert practitioners. With his newly found control over his own spiritual might, Carroll once more climbed the ranks, and with a greater amount of swiftness as well.
When the time for his very last promotion finally came, there was only one spot open. It was a fitting spot, but Carroll was not the typical man to fill the the spot of the Captain of the Fifth. The men and women before him had always been spiritual individuals. Calm, cool and collected peace keepers. With a title like the Spiritualists, it was something that was expected though. In contrast, the newly appointed Captain, Carroll, was considered unfitting, a little difficult, and not entirely mentally stable or able for his job. Although there was never a coup, members of the Fifth Division would often come very close to, or actually would actively defy his orders. There was a problem with that strategy was that the man just didn't seem like he could be bothered by the majority of the Division's issue with him. Instead, most field missions were taken care of by his Lieutenant at the time, while he did all the paper work. During the entirety of his time as a Captain, Carroll actually not only saw very little action, but also very little respect from much of his own Division, and consequently, other Divisions' soldiers as well.
It wasn't until the end of his time as a Captain that he garnered any form of respect or fame. He was given a new Lieutenant, his old one ranking up and being swept away from him, and this new Lieutenant was one of the many who were not on good terms with the Captain of Division Five. Carroll was challenged by his Lieutenant within a decade of the new installment and they were set to duel to determine a new Captain. At the duel, he was warned by the woman, his opponent, that this was serious, and there would be no outs but death. Carroll acknowledged the truth in her statement, but told her this was more like a game, and because of that, his zanpakuto would not participate, as it did not like games. Insulted, his opponent started the fight with their lives on the line. Unfortunately for the woman seeking the Captain's head, she, like many, had no idea how well, or even how, Carroll fought. It was to her disdain, that she discovered first hand that he was more than excellent with both Kido and Hakuda.
The end of the fight swiftly drew near. The aspiring Lieutenant was made a joke of in close quarters by Carrolls mixture of Hakuda that threw her away, and as she attempted to close distance, his "laughably weak" Kido. It seemed the current Captain, Carroll, was making sport of his opponent, that was, until he grew bored. Finally locking her down with a Bakudo, Carroll took her own weapon from her and slit open her chest, rolling up his sleeve and plunging his arm into the artificial cavity he created, tearing out her still beating heart. As if to jest further, he declared "And lo!, the Queen of Hearts is dead!" tossing her heart into the dirt around them and finishing her off with her own zanpakuto.
Ironically, it was this widespread display of semi-insane brutality that made his Division more respectful, perhaps under fear that he was being nice for their sake. It was only a year after this fight that Carroll announced his retirement from the Gotei Thirteen. However, that wasn't his last hand in their affairs. He pestered people for years on end until he was finally approved as the Captain Adviser. He would be free to give advice to any Shinigami seeking it, primarily the Captains for tactics and regiment changes. All they needed to do as ask or give him permission to do so. However, it is understandable that many are hesitant to take what advice he offers. It is not uncommon his past and his display are brought to mind, coupled with his almost snake like smile. Many find him untrustworthy, in part, if not wholly because of, his mind and appearance.

- Zanpakutō Name: Kyouki [Madness]
Zanpakutō Type: Unclassified
Sealed Zanpakutō: The sealed zanpakuto takes the form of a silver pocket watch. Because of this, Carroll constantly plays with its details and workings in minor ways, such as making it tick backwards, changing the numbers from Roman Numerals to English/Arabic Numbers, accelerating the second hand and so on. Most of these are subtle and generally unnoticed, but some of the curious few find themselves confused because of the way the details and clock's inner workings change.
Zanpakutō Spirit: Carroll admittedly hasn't a clue what his actual zanpakuto spirit looks like. This is because he presumes it takes the image of anyone visiting its inner world, given that whenever he visits it, it takes on his image, although often in distorted and demented ways. Most often, it appears as himself, with his head twisted upside down. However, the true image of the spirit is an extremely tall, gaunt, human shape with spindly arms dressed in a fine suit. Unless assuming a form, it has no defining characteristics, as its body is wholly featureless.

- Shikai Incantation: "Encompass all in your embrace, Kyouki."
Release Appearance: Release
Description:
Being an unclassified zanpakuto is something of an advantage for Kyouoki. It's entire purpose is wholly unidentified, as it accounts for distractions, defenses, offenses, and supports. Really, whatever idiotic way that Carroll can think of can be put to use by this zanpakuto. It thrives off of his madness, using its abilities any way deemed fit by the wielder. However, it should be noted that upon activation, the watch itself that is the zanpakuto does not disappear or become the blade, but rather, it creates the blade itself, often drawn out of Carroll's hat for theatrical purposes. It should also be known that he may "sheath" this weapon when he chooses without ending his Shikai, as the watch is his actual zanpakuto, rather than the blade itself, allowing him to fight unimpeded with his hands or a sword. The only catch is that he must "draw" it from somewhere again whenever it isn't visible.
Abilities:
- Mistukiusagi [March Hare]
"Would you like one lump or two?"
The user seeks to either make contact with the foe or their weapon with his hands or his own weapon. By using his other hand and touching his own arm, it creates an odd, spiraling burst of energy that twists at the foe's weapon or body, further damaging them or weakening their guard. Consequently, this technique is extremely effective at going through the guard of an opponent, as the only real requirement is getting close enough to make contact. This can also be used on objects such as walls or barriers in an attempt to break right through or weaken them. [2 Post Cool Down]
Yamane [Dormouse]
"Go to sleep."
Carroll throws a strike with his hands or weapon in a piercing motion that causes an amount of pressure to spit from the end of the strike. This pressure moves in a straight line for three meters before stopping. Contact with any object causes the blow to stop, however, what it hits first determines the end result. Upon striking a person, namely the opponent, the technique deals moderate blunt damage as well as inducing mild sluggishness that fades away almost immediately [1 Post]. However, when used on objects such as walls, barrier, or Kido, the attack seems to be greatly enhanced, strong enough to bust through the average concrete wall. Because of its ability to be used as a sort of breach charge, Carrol can indeed run his sword into an object normally too thick for the move and blast out the other side first, greatly thinning the wall. [3 Post Cool Down]
Chesha Neko [Cheshire Cat]
"He just disappeared!"
Carroll emits a pulse of reiryoku that forcibly swaps the places of himself and a target object within the three meter range. This has several drawbacks. The first being that it can only target Kido or reiryoku based attacks, Shinigami or other Spiritual beings, or in the event it makes contact with the zanpakuto, the zanpakuto and its owner. Another drawback involved in using this move is despite the pulse is completely spherical, he can only trade places with targets he can see, meaning he would have to turn around or look up to target something not in front of him. Consequently, this means when the switch takes place, Carroll ends up not facing his target, putting himself in the same predicament as before. The last draw back is the skill has a rather long cool down period, making its use sparing. [7 Post Cool Down]
Mayakashi [Make-Believe]
"What do you mean it isn't real?"
Perhaps the only real proof that Carroll was even a member of the Spiritualists Division, he can summon his zanpakuto spirit with this technique to temporarily aid him in the fray [2 Posts]. The spirit is summoned most often from the ground beneath the feet of his foe, should they be withing the summoning range of three meters, allowing a surprise attack if they aren't prepared. In the event the opponent seems to be expecting an attack, Carroll may also call his spirit from some of the more ridiculous places, including his coat pocket or from within his hat. Sticking true to itself, the spirit often takes on a twisted and demented form of the opponent or Carroll himself. [5 Post Cool Down]
Kyofu [Horror]
"The Law has long arms. Madness has long fingers. The Law of Madness has both."
Usually used as a deadlock breaker, Carroll uses this technique to perform a partial spirit summoning. His spirit attacks, using his own body as the core for the summoning, so if anything, the object from which the attack originates is predictable, but the exact point of origin is not. Once activated, the Spirit's upper body or just one or both of its arms are brought forth from Carroll's body, grasping at the opponent. The spirit will attempt to hold onto the foe so Carroll can attack them more effectively, or slam them into another object, or simply throw them away. Regardless, this technique is great for breaking deadlocks. [2 Post Cool Down]

- Bankai Name: Shiro Usagi [White Rabbit]
Bankai Incantation: Lure them down the rabbit hole, Shiro Usagi
Release Appearance: Release
Description: Although not changing its standard appearance, Shiro Usagi has devolved from a zanpakuto of unpredictability into one that is more aligned with the mental state of its wielder. The techniques are meant to inspire some sort of fear, horror, pain, or awe into its foes while in the midst of battle. Using powerful techniques that have no other intention other than total domination, Shiro Usagi is indeed a zanpakuto that doesn't like games.
Abilities:
- Yuutsu [Despondence]
"Are you going down or are you feeling it?"
Carroll releases a powerful wave of energy in every direction around him that travels for fifteen meters. Contacted objects, be they people, Kido, projectiles, or the like, are caught and carried to the end of the range. Once the blast has reached the end of its range, everything afflicted by the wave of energy is brought crashing immediately down. This makes the technique an excellent counter attack as well as defensive and offensive blast. One should keep in mind the pulse has enough power to uproot large trees and punch through concrete, and depending on how many objects get swept up into the blast can greatly change the lethality of the technique. [5 Post Cool Down]
Kuzureru [Crumble]
"Why? Why is it all coming undone?"
Similar to Kyofu, Carroll performs a partial summoning of his zanpakuto spirit. However, rather than the spirit trying to grapple and keep hold of the foe, this time around it swings or strikes at them violently. This strike is infused with reiryoku, making it stronger than normal and giving it an added effect. Upon contact with an object the stored energy is released, causing such things as concrete, clothing, trees, barrier, ice or so on, to crumble apart in a one meter area. Offensive techniques, such as Kido or Projectiles, are affected in the same way, though those with explosive power will often hit Carroll for around half the normal force. People that receive the pulse from the strike however, suffer minor external damage, as the pulse deals much of its damage internally, namely on the muscles, making them heavily sore. This is actually somewhat bad considering this effect can be outweighed by the adrenaline in one's system. [3 Post Cool Down]
Kurushimi [Suffering]
"Please don't."
Carroll surrounds himself in a sphere of his own, honey colored reishi. Then as if being stained by dripping ink, the orb begins turning black. Once entirely pitch black, it raises up into the air, forming his zanpakuto spirit in Carroll's image, twisted and distorted as always. It draws a blade from its sleeve and swings at the opponent, provided they are within striking distance. If they are not, the Spirit will hurl the weapon at the foe within twenty-five meters. The blade then explodes, expanding into a sphere with a five meter radius. Should Carroll be within the blast range, the Spirit protects him from its own attack. Once finished, the spirit withdraws back into Carroll's body, and he has dark black stains from the corner of his mouth and eyes. While it appears to be internal bleeding, it is an effect of this technique that lasts on Carroll for three posts. Additionally, should the foe be struck by this attack, whether by the blast or the blade, they too suffer from the odd liquid's effect for three posts of their own. After the three post period, it will stop flowing. [5 Post Cool Down]

- Hadō: All Hado Known
Bakudō: All Bakudo Known
Other:
- Kido Master: Having to always spread his reiryoku out so precisely, Carroll is nothing short of a Kido Master. The spells he uses are used with utmost efficiency, simply because he started out never having the energy to waste. Because of this, Kido Practice was one of the things he did most often, and in the end, it panned out very well for him.
Hakuda Expert: Another result of Carroll initially having little amount of reiryoku to spare, he trained his Hakuda to be above the par. Consequently, he's a surprisingly strong fist fighter. Even more surprisingly, he's fairly good at going against someone with only one hand, as he may use the other to keep hold of his hat. All in all, the somewhat dapper and fancily dressed former Captain is quite the brawler.
"I followed a White Rabbit here." Despite his position and his history, the man is crazy. At least somewhat mentally unstable. It's something everyone else should keep in mind.
