"What was going through your heads when you thought of this!" October shouted, displaying her anger and protest quite openly. What had initially been planned as a relaxing day by the lake now had turned into an argument about October's future. Just as Eero, her butler and best friend, and herself were about to head to the lake, a knock had sounded at the door. Never had the Council come to Easeway, she had always went to them, yet seeing the two members standing there meant something was wrong. Aonica, the Leader, hardly left the Chambers to address important matters. Though that wasn't to say she had seen the female Mervid named Elizra more often out in public.
"Child, you realize that you aren't of royal blood. You have no parent or guardian here to decide your future or govern your actions. You must abide by our ruling until you take the throne," Aonica had said calmly. "We are sending you there because there is only so much we can teach you and there is only so much Mr. Eero here can teach you. You need proper schooling."
"What about my life outside of Alive? My mother, Alton, my high school? I am going to be a junior this year, are you just going to make me repeat those last two years?" October had calmed down a big but that didn't make up for the fact that they enrolled her into a school without her knowledge or consent.
"Your Mother has been contacted by the school," Aonica said, looking at her Princess.
"You called her?" Although she didn't give a definite answer, October knew the answer by her slow blink. "How did you convince her? Who will pay for my tuition?"
"That doesn't matter right now. What matters is that you must leave today. Today is welcoming day." With that, October's mouth dropped open as she turned to stare at Eero.
"I'm sorry, Princess. They told me just to pack your bags," he said giving an apologetic half-smile. Glaring at her best friend, October grit her teeth. You knew all along. With a sigh, October shook her head. This was too much. Why had she been left in the dark so long? Was she to return home and her Mother say she had to leave? None of it made sense, but she knew she had to listen. She loved Alive and everything in it. She wanted to be queen and so she would do as she was told.
"Fine," she said in defeat. Suddenly, a knock sounded on the door. Just about to question who it was, Eero was opening the door. Upon seeing a male Mervid standing there, confusion filled her face.
"Princess, my brother will join you. He is to serve as your guard at this school," Elizra said finally after her long silence. "Do you remember Izromos?" The male bowed before entering and waiting to enter until his sister motioned him to come in.
"Yes, I do. Hello Izromos," she said, smiling to the man who had done her no harm. He was a handsome man with blue-green skin, silver eyes and matching silver hair pulled into a ponytail. There were gills on the side of his neck that seemed of little use. His pointed elven ears ended with fins instead of a normal tip. Scales dotted his face and he looked like a genuinely soft-spoken man. October also knew that even though he didn't offer his hand, his fingers would be webbed together.
"Hello, Princess October," he spoke with an accent much known by Mervids.
"Now, we must get going," Aonica said, breaking introductions. Closing her eyes, October took a deep breath and nodded. What a fun year this would be.
