Bast was off doing something decidedly Bast like...she was trying to pull the wool over a couple of models. She'd told him her plans and that was fine, really...but he wasn't in the mood to look through clothes, makeup, jewelry...all things that were decidedly feminine in nature and use given the Kitty Kat twins were very much female.
That left him wandering around the streets of town occasionally conning someone, out of something. He wasn't as good at pulling the sympathy card and being given things as his cohort, but he was usually pretty good at parting some fool with their wallet. Which is what his plans were today, he just had to find the perfect target....

The 'perfect' target would stroll right into view, actually. He didn't look like he was too strong. Probably ill, if his pallor was anything to go by. Head down, not watching where he was going, or paying much attention to his surroundings. Listening to music via an iPad sort of device, and his wallet on a chain... that was hanging out of his pants, and somehow had 'snapped' off. He probably didn't notice.
However, there was a roadblock to this little bit of luck... in the form of an arcanine close-by the pale boy's side, walking with its head up, looking around, nose working, paws stepping carefully. THIS part of the duo was very much alert. And he appeared to be the 'no-nonsense' kind of pokemon that could give a little thief a run for his money... There might yet be a way to get some cash, though...

Lorne spotted his mark and a smile crossed his lips seeing the perfect set up.
Inattentive. Check. Easy to snatch wallet. Check Looking unlikely to chase. Check. Big Arcanine. Check...
Wait...
Lorne backed up his mental review and scowled seeing the Arcanine there. "Damn.."
The Purrloin child swore slightly as he looked at the situation with a fresh perspective. Other than that dog,
So...so tempting!
Lorne flexed his fingers. If he was fast enough...maybe he could snag that wallet...a hard enough yank...and take off fleeing...
A smirk crossed his lips as he mentally prepared himself.

The boy stopped walking, still listening to his music, and leaned back against the the wall, apparently either catching his breath, or just relaxing for a moment. The arcanine at his feet sat there, and looked straight ahead. Straight at the child about to make the biggest mistake of his life. It was as though the pokemon could sense intent - his eyes locked on him. In the way only pokemon COULD talk to pokemon, the arcanine growled out a warning.
"Ninnnnne.... Arrrrrcaninnnnne..." which to pokemon ears was: =You touch my trainer, and I remove your arm.=

"Oh how cute. You want to play."
Lorne purred in amusement, tail flicking behind him as he contemplated the Arcanine who was threatening his own maiming and snickered some.
"No intentions of touching your trainer you flea bitten mongrel."
Oh sure, lets taunt the large fire dog. That was the smart thing, right?

Arkie's hackles went straight up, and he lifted his head a bit, eyes flashing with the fire he, and all arcanine, had within. His tail stilled, as it had been gently waving back and forth, and his legs stiffened, ears going erect from the relaxed position they had been in.
"Ninnnnnnne...." he warned =Back off.= Although for that one, he really didn't need to be translated.
"Nine.... ninnnnne nine... arrrr.... nine.... canine... arrrrrcaninnnne..." =If you wish to challenge me... make it formal.... I'm sure Ethan would... like a battle with the likes of you, KID.=

"Battle? You think I want to battle?" Lorne couldn't help but laugh as he shook his head in amusement. "No. Far from battle honestly."
The feline child grinned and stretched a little, back arching as he did so fingers flexing again as he crouched down and got a handful of dirt which he smudged over his hands arms and face a bit. His clothes for the day were older, worn things. None of the new things he'd gotten lately. His feet wiggled in his beaten up shoes as he sized up the situation and of all things, began to simply walk towards the pair.
He'd learned a few things from Bastet, and he was hoping to put at least a few things to use. He moved closer, shoulders hunched a little looking like he was trying in a way to avoid the world...walking with his head down and as if he wasn't paying attention, purposely walking closer to the Arcanine.

The arcanine barked. Single, sharp, and only a bark, not actually a word. It jerked Ethan out of his music contemplation, causing him to jerk the headphones off, and look down at Arkie first, then over at the... strange... looking... boy. What in the WORLD was that? He blinked, and gave a weak smile.
"Hello... You...erm.... okay?"
Arkie was on his feet now, tail still and out straight, making the fluff stand on end. His ears were perked completely forward.
"Sorry if my Arkie scared you - he's really protective. I... can try and make it up to you if he did? I don't have much, but...I might be able to treat you to lunch?"

Okay so the actual bark he hadn't been expecting and it did cause him to jump just a little, eyes widening a moment. Geez he had a deep bark!
The reaction from the trainer, had not been what he was expecting though and he looked up at the teen with wide eyes, though he did look to the Arcanine distrustfully and he sniffled a little for effect.
"I was a little afraid he'd attack me...jus' tryin' to walk by you mister...hoping to get to the soup kitchen before they run out for the day." okay so it was a total act, but he looked like a homeless child at this point, and he was going to play it for what it was worth.

It had the desired effect. Ethan's heart melted. Despite his arcanine being complete on edge, he was relaxed, and trusted easily. He went for his wallet, and unhooked the chain, putting that bit in his pocket, and taking out the actual wallet-part.
"Third time today that thing's come off. I really need to sew it back on... But... let's see. Here. You don't have to go to the soup-kitchen today! I can treat you to lunch."
He gave a kind smile, and motioned around. "Where do you want to eat? I was about to go get myself some lunch too - but I have enough to treat two. I'll bet you'd like a milkshake..."
He rubbed his chin a bit, thinking, while the arcanine gave a disgruntled huff, and his eyes bored straight into the human-form pokemon's. He was saying 'you make him sad, I make you pay' without actually saying a word.
"What about that old-timey place up near the end of the street? You can get something to eat.. Then.... I might have something nice for you, if you behave. Okay?"

Lorne's eyes were quick to notice the wallet coming off the chain and how t he metal was put away into his pocket. That was potentially a good thing...though of course it meant the wallet would likely follow suit, which would be a little more problematic. He did better filching from bags and purses and coats, rather than actual pants. "No ones ever bought me lunch before mister." this, was genuine. No one had ever bought him lunch, he'd always found it somewhere, or gone without. So the surprise in his voice was genuine. "Milkshake?" he'd seen them of course, but they weren't exactly easy to steal and all so he didn't know what one was, exactly. The huff made Lorne take a few steps back, putting on that same, wary and scared look he'd worn moments before. He'd caught the warning from the canine loud and clear...but for the moment, Lorne was actually side tracked by the suggestion of where to go. "I uhm...well...I dunno mister...I mean...I've never been in a place like that...but I know the people that go in aren't all messy like me. I don't think they'll like me in there..." and he trailed off, ears and tail drooping in sadness. How much was an act, he couldn't have actually said. The idea of having a proper meal...in a proper eatery was enticing!

Ethan laughed a bit, and smiled at the boy kindly. The kindness was genuine - the teen really WAS that gullible. He offered forth his hand, after sticking his wallet back in his pocket. "I'm sure it's not all THAT bad. C'mon. The place I'm talking about allows pokemon, so I can get something for Arkie too. I'm sure you'll be just fine!"
Arkie, for his part was remaining silent, keeping his eyes on the Purrloin at all times. Of course he knew what he was. His sense of smell and his scent-memory wasn't broken, after all. He trusted Ethan, but he did NOT trust this kitty to not take the boy's wallet and run off with it. Well...
"Ninnnnne... nine nine arcanine... nine... arrrr." he said, matter-of-factly. =If you take his wallet... and run off with it... I will chase you... and bring you back.=

Lorne stared long and hard at the offered hand and he rubbed his own against his pants to clean it up a little before he did set it to the teens hand looking up at him warily. This was...not going at all like he'd originally intended. "Maybe..." he sounded thoughtful then, pondering. He didn't think he'd ever stolen anything from this place, and he was relieved to see it wasn't at all familiar to him. Good! No one would start calling him a thief and all. He turned to Arkie while Ethan walked and he stuck his tongue out at him and made a face taunting him slightly. A smirk crossed his face before he turned back around, back to that same innocent face he'd been wearing before he turned to look at the Arcanine. He "anxiously" looked over his shoulder a few more times, as if worried he'd be attacked. Oh yes. Bast's lessons had come in very helpful!

"I wouldn't worry about Arkie. He's just protective. If you don't mean me harm, he won't lay a paw on you." Ethan said jovially. "Let's get you something to eat."
He started strolling down the street, headed toward the eatery with the child's hand in his own, not really worried for his safety. Arkie followed along behind, eyes constantly on the purrloin, probably thinking of ways he could intercept any untoward action that would befall his trainer. He was definitely keeping a sharp eye on the boy's hands. If that purrloin didn't want to LOSE said hands, he'd keep them where Arkie would see them.

"Oh okay mister." Lorne gave him a tremulous smile and finally turned away from Arkie. With the hand closest to Ethan being held he couldn't exactly go after the wallet anyhow. It wasn't a smart move! Lorne was trying to think this through, figure out how he could snatch that wallet and book it...but he was looking forward to a nice hot cooked meal...and he was curious what a milkshake tasted like...and what would happen if he was...*shudder* good. The Purrloin felt like while he might've lost out on snitching the money outright...he was still coming out on top in this situation! Once inside he looked around with wide eyes. "Maybe I should go wash my hands...they're sorta filthy..."
