Aaron was rather excited about Zavier's first little outing to the bookstore. The boy had been clamoring on and off most days for a new book with recipes in it, and he was finally going to satisfy that curiousity. He hadn't had a lot of time lately, what with moving, and settling, and unpacking. But finally, everything was done, and he could give his pocky child some decent spoilage before he got too old to remember it.

"Now, Zav..." Aaron warned as he opened the door for Zavier to enter the bookstore. ".. Remember. You want a cookbook. I'll get you THREE books in here, but keep in mind what you want, keep in mind your budget, and make sure you get something you're going to use. I don't want to have to return a book because it's too hard for you. Read carefully before you decide."

Zavier - always at least attempting to please - nodded his head, and took off toward the back of the store once Aaron let go of his hand. The brown-haired boy crossed his arms, sighed, and watched him go. Whoever knew his favorite flavor would be so... energetic. "Be careful about strangers!" he called to the running child, before finding a place by the main counter to sit, with his own book, and wait for Zavier to get back from shopping on his own. Since Aaron wasn't exactly a cook... Zavier kind of got to call the shots on this one.

"Alright, Ladon, you know the drill. You go under my hat and you stay there, got it? This place seems to have something against animals coming in the store. I tried to explain you are a familiar but they don't seem to see those as being two different things. Fools, all of them." He muttered, adjusting his tall witch hat before heading toward the door again. He paused at the door, turned to look at his broom, and pointed at it, "You, be inconspicuous." He told it. As though a broom that floated around on it's own could possibly move about unnoticed. To Midori though the broom was an everyday, average object that a witch would have and as such nothing that should be looked upon oddly.

After giving out his orders to his followers he headed inside, looking back and forth for the old crone of a woman that tossed him out earlier, and then rushed forward. They would see about finding the books that they needed, they'd pay for them, and then they would be on their way without anyone being the wiser! Midori was quick to rush forward, across the book store, and ducked into the aisle he needed... and behind him was his broom, following along after him whilst making sweeping motions. It was of course the most suspicious thing ever but who cared, right? What was important was the fact that he had made it to the aisle where the spell books would be found! At long last!

Turning to look at his broom he pointed at it, "You keep an eye out, I will find the books." He ordered. The broom moved to wait at the end of the aisle as though standing guard, not as though it could call out if they were spotted but oh well, it was still doing as told. Midori couldn't fault it's lack of voice when it was listening as well as a broom could.

Zavier paused mid-step when someone rushed past him on the way to the books, and gave a hard, HARD look at... a broom? Sweeping by itself? That required investigation. He followed along behind, just as quiet as the broom, and wound up watching a boy in a witch's hat browsing through books on... magic? Really? Awesome!

"You're a witch?" Of course Zavier recognized the witchiness. It was in every single Halloween book he'd ever read, or had read to him by Aaron. The pointy hat and broom was definitely a dead giveaway. "Where's your black cat?"

He blinked as he poked at the broom, expecting it to rise up and attack him or something. A flying broom. How cool was that! "Hey, does this fly, or does it only sweep?"
PostPosted: Sat Oct 19, 2013 6:53 pm

Midori turned to look over at the boy who was approaching, giving him a once over, before he turned to face him, "Of course, I am the best witch that there is." Or at least he would be once he found the right books to help him along on this course he thought to himself. Giving a little flush he said, "Well, you see, a black cat is something quite important so I am being picky as far as deciding upon which cat it is that I am going to take on as my black cat." That was a good enough explanation, he didn't want anyone to know that he had just yet to find a cat despite his searching. It was quite unlucky but damn it he was going to find one of them one day!

Lifting a hand up to lift his hat up slightly to show him then little dragon that was tucked under it he whispered, "Until then I have my dragon familiar and broom to help me out." He said, putting his hat back into place to hide Ladon before he turned back to searching through the books once more, "We are going to find the perfect spell books today so that we can become all that much more powerful." What he really wanted was a spell to summon himself a familiar. If he could find one of those he would be set forever! He could only hope that such a spell existed he thought to himself before he spotted a book with an interesting title, grabbing it up, "Mine!" He chirped happily.

Turning back to the other boy he found himself a bit curious about him, "You kinda smell like cheese, is that normal?" He asked of him, taking a couple steps forward to inspect the boy. He might be interesting enough and someone worth spending a bit of time with he decided, grinning a bit.

Zavier grinned and nodded, standing up proudly, and putting his hands on his hips. "Uh huh! It's normal! I'm from Nacho Cheese! I want to be a cook, too, so I've been trying out different recipes with cheese. Like cheese-sticks!"

He grinned, and extended his hand to the other boy's. "My name's Zavier! There's a man in here somewhere with brown hair and green eyes, and blue on - and he's Aaron, my dad! I'm here to get books on cooking! But... I saw your broom and got curious."

He moved over to pluck another book off the shelf, one with an interesting title to HIM - 101 Spooky Recipes. "Hey! Hey! Look at this! I found a cool book too! What's yours say?"
PostPosted: Sat Oct 19, 2013 7:14 pm

Midori's brightly colored eyes went wide for a moment before he chuckled, "You came from Nacho Cheese and you want to cook with cheese? Heh, you are so creepy, I think I like you." He said, his finding the guy creepy a good thing. The idea that the guy was wanting to cook his own kind was a creepy as it got, making him instantly want to be friends with the cheese cannibal. He would be the perfect sort of friend for a witch he decided, not caring whether or not the cheese boy would agree with him. It was too late and he meant to keep him.

"Zavier, huh? My name is Midori and... well, I am here alone save for my entourage." He said, motioning to the broom and then to his hat where his familiar was hiding, "My father's name is Aden, he's a doctor or something. What about yours?" He asked of him, wondering if he he was a creepily awesome cook as well. At the mention of his broom he recalled the question that he missed, causing him to turn to look at the broom that still appeared to be on watch despite lacking eyes and being a broom. He gave a bit of a laugh, "I supposed as much as I tell the broom to be inconspicuous it's still an animated broom, huh? Ah well, it is what it is. Oh, and about what you asked earlier, it can fly. It just doesn't need to fly inside." He laughed.

As the other found a book that interested him Midori smiled, "Looks like fun." He said then looked down at his own book, turning it around, showing it to him, "It says 'Spells for the Beginner Witch' on the cover. It's probably where I should start then I can get more of them complicated looking ones." He motioned to the rest of the books with the various creepy titles and images on the covers.

"My dad's not a doctor. He has lots of books and stuff, and he draws with a really neat pen, and lots of images come out." He grinned. "He says it's called 'manga' - but I don't know what that is. It's cool though! He's really good at drawing guys."

He eyed the cover of the book Midori was reading, and beamed even wider. "That looks like such a neat book! You'll be a master witch in no time at all, I'll bet! Tell you what.... I know my dad has a black cat... What if... you come and see her, and maybe we can give you a kitten when she has her babies? She's apparently been... erm... what's the word dad used.... Knocked up? I think that's when something knocks you on the head, and then you get babies. I didn't know it'd take so long, though. I guess the stork doesn't work for kitties."

At the mention of the broom, he turned sparkling eyes to Midori again. "Can... can I ride it? Oh PLEASE? Pleasepleaseplease? I've always wanted to ride a flying thing!"
PostPosted: Sun Oct 20, 2013 12:33 am

Midori cocked his head to one side, looking for a moment thoughtful, "Manga... is that like those smut books my father has a lot of? Heh, so your dad is a perv, eh?" To think that this kid's father would be the sort that created the books that Aden read, small world. It made him wonder if he should see about introducing their fathers but figured that they should take it one step at a time. He didn't want to rush into this, not as though they were planning on eloping or anything he thought to himself, "I somehow think that my father would like yours due to his job alone... though him being a guy and having a pulse would likely push it over the top." To say that Aden was on the promiscuous side was an understatement.

"A knocked up black cat, eh? That sounds useful." He mused to himself, rather liking the sound of that if only because that meant that there was a chance that the cat might have a baby like herself. He really did need a familiar and if he could find one a little kitten sized familiar that meant that he would be able to raise it however he wanted! It would be the best, most deadly and adorable familiar ever he vowed. As the other described to him what 'knocked up' meant and how the stork was taking a while he opened his mouth to explain what it really meant... then closed his mouth. Ah well, let him be cute and naive, better then being stuck knowing the truth cause you went skimming through a medical text book thinking it was something else.

As the other boy suddenly asked about riding the broom he turned to look over at it, starring at it for a long moment, then laughed, "Ahh... well... I guess you could try. Nobody but me has ever done so, don't know what it will do if a stranger tries to ride it but... have at." No reason not to let him have a go at it since the kid was offering him a chance at a familiar after all.

"Yay! Okay... Umm..." He set down the book he had taken off the shelf, and walked over to the broom. He sat down on the floor in front of it, cross-legged, and canted his head to one side... before he started talking to the thing.

"You know, I know you belong to Midori and all - but I'd really, really, REALLY like to go for a little ride on you, so if you would let me on, it would be really nice of you. I don't know what broom's eat, but I'll make you something! Or maybe I'll have dad buy you a friend? Would you like a broomfriend?"

He turned back to Midori, smiling. "About dad? I think Manga has lots of things in it, and I think dad only draws guys. I don't really know why, but he's really good at it! The books he draws are in a series that I... think is called Blue Winter - but he won't let me read them. I know there's about ten of them."

The broom didn't respond, at least not in words, it was unable to really do so due to being just a broom. Still, if nothing else it shifted from standing up right to being horizontal, set up in 'flight position', ready to go. It was the best sign that one could get from a broom when asking if they could fly on it. Off to the side Midori was chuckling before he said, "The broom doesn't eat anything and I only need the one broom for flying, you can thank it by being careful. We don't want it to get mucked up after all." The last thing he wanted was a dirty broom after all... which was a funny thought in a way since brooms were meant to clean up dirt.

Midori moved to run his fingers along the spines of a couple more books, wondering if he should get more or if he should stick with just the beginners book. It was hard to pick when he really wanted all of the books for his very own. Turning slightly he glanced over at the other boy for a moment, a thoughtful look on his face, then he gave a shrug, "Maybe, he has a whole mountain of those kissy face books so it might have been amongst them. So, your dad draws them but he won't let you read them? Seems silly." He muttered, giving a half shrug.

After a moment though he snapped his fingers and said, "Ah! Idea! We should go and check out the manga section, see if they have any of his books. Most of those time those sorts of books are plastic wrapped but we can at least check out the covers and the back flap." That sounded like fun, especially given how hard Zavier's father was trying to keep such a book secret from his son. It must be something special, interesting, and very adult if that were the case. It all just made Midori want that much more to get a peek at the book with or without his new found friend.

"Thank you, Mr. Broom!" Zavier said, before cautiously lifting himself up onto the broom, half-afraid he was going to break it. He bit his lip a bit, and lifted his feet from the ground. Right now, all he wanted to do was hover. Maybe he could fly over to the manga section? Slowly. He gripped the broom tightly, but not too tightly, as he tried to keep his balance just hovering.

"It is kinda silly." Zavier said. "But he said I can't read that kind of stuff until I'm older. Then, he said he's gonna draw one just for me - if I want it." He smiled. "My characters and everything! Whatever that means. My dad's silly, but he's also really nice."

Zavier's eyes went wide at the next mention. "You.. you think they have my dad's stuff here? Right here? In this very store?!" He'd never thought to go look at it before. That was a really good idea! His new friend was really pretty smart, huh? Well, of course he was, he was a witch. Witches were always pretty and smart. Why shouldn't he have good ideas?

"Why do they wrap them in plastic? That makes reading them kinda hard, doesn't it?"

Midori watched as the boy positioned himself carefully on the broom and seemed to cling to it, floating in midair. It was funny to see someone so tentative around the broom, as though it might buck him off or bite or something but he supposed not everyone saw a flying broom day in and day out. Tucking his book under his arm he set to walking a couple circles around him, then patted him on the shoulder, "You are doing well, don't fall now." He said, not wanting to be responsible for any bumps and bruises.

With that he turned his attention toward where the manga section was, not normally his cup of tea but a place his father frequented, always looking for updates to his favorite series, interesting one shots, or new series he wanted to start up. He seemed for a moment thoughtful then turned to look at Zavier with a bit grin on his face, "Well, we will never know until we go and check, huh? So how about we go over there, look around, and you can see if you spot anything that sounds like or looks like his work." He was eager to see if the guy was actually the sort of mangaka that appealed to Aden, mostly because it would be amusing to Midori that his friend's father wrote such stuff.

"Hold tight." He said before he moved forward toward that section of the book store, motioning for the broom to follow along after him, something it did quickly and willingly enough. Since he was in a hurry so was broom but at least it remained at the right angle, not risking dumping Zavier unless the boy lost his hold or slipped off.

Zavier held onto the broom as tightly as he could afford to, and had no problem staying aloft as the broom followed Midori down the aisles of books to the Manga section. Once there, it didn't take Zavier too terribly long to lift a hand, and point to a plastic-wrapped book near the bottom shelf entitled Winter Moon's Call.

"There! That's the kind of work my dad does. I think that's one of his novels. I recognize the character on the spine. He has a lot of characters, but he's been drawing that one a bunch recently."

If Midori picked up the book to read the back, it would say something like this:

The newest manga from the author known as Deep Blue, this latest installment of Winter Moon sees Tristan sent away from the village. Apparently, someone knows his secret! When Alan finds out he's been sent away, panic ensues as he searches frantically for his full-moon lover... But someone else wants Tristan, and isn't afraid to kill to get what they want!

Meanwhile, Blake pines away after the death of Neil... but who's this in the shadows?

It was your typical, cheesy yaoi novel - but it sounded as though it might have a pretty decent plot. And it was the brand-new installment of the series. It was more than clear that Zavier had NO idea what the book was actually about, or what was inside it. "Deep Blue" probably went by that name so his kid didn't recognize him. All signs pointed to a father trying to hide some seriously adult content from his kid...
PostPosted: Sun Oct 20, 2013 5:42 pm

Midori scooped up the book that Zavier was talking about, turning it over so that he could read it over, inspecting it, before he laughed, "Yeah, this sounds like the sort of stuff that my father would read. I wouldn't be surprised if he already has this one or means to get it soon." He couldn't help but to be amused, to think that he would meet the son of the mangaka that his own father enjoyed so much. It was too funny.

Turning to look over at the other boy he said, "Sounds like an interesting sort of book. I'd try to buy it but I somehow doubt that they would let people our age to buy it." He said with a bit of a laugh, holding it out to Zavier so that he would be able to read it over as well. It wasn't his sort of thing, it was his father's sort of thing, but that didn't mean that he couldn't be amused by it all. He wondered what the other boy thought about his father writing such things. Maybe he didn't care? He supposed he wouldn't know one way or the other until Zavier himself read it over.

Zavier seemed to be remarkably adept at balancing on the broom, as he'd now gotten the hang of it to the extent where he didn't really have to hold onto the handle as long, and was able to reach out and take the book. He looked over the back cover, and read it attentively. The look of concentration on his face was honestly almost funny.

"Wow! Dad writes stuff like that? Seems exciting. I want to know what happens! ... But I'm not allowed to read his books until I'm older." he said, handing the book back with a sigh. "I don't want to get dad mad. He gets strange when he's mad. He's never hurt me, but it gets really cold when he's angry."

He maneuvered the broom over toward the shelf more, and looked at all the books wrapped in plastic on the bottom. "Wow! Dad's written..." He paused to count the number of manga with the same type of cover. "... TEN books! His hand must get tired sometimes...."
