Okay, I havn't thought about new gear in the way of actual guitars in a while, but lately I've been thinking that I need a smoother playing axe than my Tele. Sure my baby's a great rough n' tumble blueser, but she jsut doesn't have it in her to be a great shredder. I've always wanted to start shredding but have been limited by the abilities of my main axe. The notes in the upper regesters (14+) just aren't up to snuff, with a lot of buzzing and bottoming out, so no shredding for me!

Anyway, I wanted to throw it out to my fellow guild members: what are your top picks for inexpensive "smooth" playing guitars. I'm talking fast neck, nice frets, low action, no buzzing, etc, at a reasonable price ($0 - $500). As we all know I'm not known for my money, or even job xD. Thanks to all suggestions!

Hmm.. I'm thinking the LTD H-50 is looking pretty good... or perhaps the Ibanez RG321.. anyone had any experience with these?

I'd look into Ibanez, Jackson should do a few guitars Below the 500 mark that are worth looking into, too.

But, primarily, I'd go for Ibanez myself.

I would suggest a Jackson, Ibanez, or an ESP/LTD.

Yeah, those three brands are quite excellent.

Figured that might be the consesus. Wish I could afford a JS100 - Hylian's makes me jealous! xd

Even thought I love them personally, Ibanez doesnt have too much low action, I still love them, but Jacksons do, so you might wanna check one of those Randy Rhoads, they're at a pretty good price too. I've never tried and ESP/LTD but they look nice too.

I tell you... it'd make the right guitar for you judging by your current guitars. It plays a lot like a strat with a shorter scale, and it's got really solid action. I'd save up and get a quality Ibanez if I were you. Do you have a source of income?

The ibanez do come with their fair share of problems too. It's one of those guitars that does require quite a bit of consistent maintenance, what with the floyd rose and the iffy pickups.

Unfortunately, no transportation = no income for me sad

Hopefully I can pick up a job over the summer somehow and save up some money that way, but I'm pretty much in this for the long run. I figure good Ibanezes are pretty versitile, so making an Ibanez my "step up" guitar would be a good choice, seeing as how I want to learn to shred but still be able to play other things as well.

So far its still a tossup betwen the big three (Ibanez, Jackson/Charvel, and ESP/LTD). I havn't been down to the local shop in a few months so I dont know what they have. Wish there was a guitar center near me.
