"And done!" Having just placed the last hard covered book on her overflowing bookshelf, Hannah picked up the empty cardboard box and set it outside her bedroom. Break time she thought as she turned around passing by the stack of 4 other boxes full of clothing and nick knacks, to her dresser to grab her phone before plopping on her bed.
Sliding the phone open to reveal a small keyboard the periwinkle haired girl searched her phone for Delilah's phone number and began texting.
Hey you! What are you up to? -send

It was a rare moment off for the teen who lived the double life. Laying in bed with her eyes closed and her head phones in, Delilah was drifting in and out of sleep. It had been far too long since she could just listen to music and not care about anything.
She was just at the edge of sleep when a strange buzzing noise caused her to stir. Blinking several times, Delilah's brain started to work again and she reached over to her bedside table to grab her phone.
Still sleepy, she had to smile seeing who it was from.
Completely nothing for a change. How about you? How's unpacking? - send

Yeah, about that... wink - send
Hannah looked around her room, satisfied with the progress she'd made so far. Though she was still determined to get the last few boxes put away in the next hour to an hour and a half, she felt the need to take a small maybe fifteen minute break.
I'm almost done, the rest is mainly clothes. - send
Hey, do you have any plans later today? - send
Yup... Hannah was one of those people, the kind of people that can text a mile a minute but tend to send one sentence texts instead of one big one. What could she say? She had a happy finger, or in this case thumb, when it came to pushing the send button.
Mom's making taco salad for dinner if you'd like to come over. - send
As she waited for Delilah's reply, Hannah leaned back against the mountain of pillows on her bed and stared at the ceiling, tracing pathways through the textured wall almost as if it were a puzzle. Thoughts of returning to school hummed in the back of her mind. Before moving up north to be closer to the other hospital, she had attended Crystal Academy with her raven haired friend, unfortunately as things would have it now that they were back, she was going to be stuck going to Meadowview. Not that it was a bad thing, no, it just hadn't been what she was hoping for.

Delilah had just put her phone back down when she got not one, not two, but four quick dings. Chuckling to herself as she reached over and picked it back up, she glanced at the screen reading her friend's train of thoughts.
Scanning though the quick text wall, Delilah smiled, kicked off the blanket she had on her legs and crossed the room to her door.
"Mom?" Delilah called out and looked down the hallway. The master bedroom light was off so her mother was still downstairs. Crossing the hallway and quickly running half way down, Delilah called out again. "Mom?"
"In the kitchen. And don't scream in the house!" Elizabeth called out in a voice just as loud. The comment made Delilah roll her eyes as she finished walking down into the hallway and round the corner. She couldn't smell anything coming from the kitchen which meant one thing...left overs.
"Sorry about screaming." Delilah responded looking at her mother washing the dishes before leaning against the counter.
"So what did Hannah say because that's the only time I ever see you this energetic." Elizabeth smiled looking back at her daughter. She was thrilled beyond words to see Delilah with this much life in her again. Ever since Hannah left, she had never opened up to anyone else. Elizabeth had been worried.
Delilah only smiled. "She invited me over for dinner. May I?" Her mother just smiled, nodded, and pointed to the keys on the table. "You know the rules. No driving after 10pm. If you are going to be late, call us." Walking over, she kissed her daughter's head.
"Thanks!" Delilah smiled, grabbed the keys and headed upstairs to get her bag and shoes all while some how texting On My Way! - send

See you soon! - send "Wooohooo" Hannah thrusted her arms in the air, the sound of pure joy echoed down the hallway into the kitchen where her mother was cooking. Swing her feet off the side of her bed, she scrambled across her bedroom deftly avoiding the hazardous open boxes save for the one filled to the brim with clothes hangers. Withdrawing a breath through clenched teeth, Hannah hopped around the room on one foot having stubbed her pinkie toe on the corner of a card board box managing to land on a pant hanger in the process. "Ow ow ow." that smarts...Startled by the loud crashing sound, Mrs Carrington put down the knife and walked over to the open area at the base of the stair case. "Hannah?" she called upstairs "Are you okay?" "Yeah!" came Hannah's reply. Too excited to care much about her stubbed toe, thought it did throb a bit, she released her hold on her foot, leapt over the pile of plastic and bounded over her bedroom threshold coming to a stop on the hardwood floored hallway which she slid across like Tom Hanks in Risky Business... only difference is she had her pants on. The sound of her stampeding down the stairway resembled a pack of Great Danes charging downstairs for dinner rather than a 16 year old 116 pound girl. "Careful!" Pleased to see her daughter so happy, the reprimand for running down the stairs was laced with laughter. "What's going on" With wild eyes and a smile that spread from ear to ear, Hannah threw her arms around her mother in an over exuberant embrace. "Mom! Delilah's on her way over to hang out! It's okay if she says for dinner right." The look on her face was a cross between an earnest plead 'please say yes' and an apologetic 'sorry, I should have asked first... please forgive me, but please say yes'. Mrs Carington stood there pretending to ponder her answer. "That's fine, there's plenty of food." She placed both hands on her daughters shoulders and turned her around to face the stairs "Go finish up your room before she gets here." "Kay!" the periwinkle haired girl turned around and smiled up at her mother "Thanks mom!"

Smiling at the returned text, Delilah dropped her phone into her bag just as she started back down the stairs. Hannah and family did not require make-up or two hours in front of a mirror. Heck, her second mother would most likely find her hysterical if she did come dressed up.
Walking into the kitchen, she scooped up the keys her mother had left out for her and found something else there as well. Sitting in a plastic container was some of her mother's signature fudge. "I knew she was hiding some!" Delilah laughed as she picked it up and headed towards the back door. "Bye Mom!"
While it was not walking distance, the drive was a quick one and had Delilah pulling up into the Carrington driveway in a matter of 10 minutes. Might have been less if she would not have gotten behind someone doing ten under the speed limit.
Slipping out of the car and locking it behind her, Delilah noted the house appeared nice. It did not have the memories Hannah's childhood home did but that just meant this one had to make its own.
Sprinting up to the front door, she give quick raps on the door and waited.

Hannah had been upstairs breaking down the last cardboard box when she heard her mothers voice echoing into her bedroom "HANNAH! DOOR!" with a smile spread across her face she quickly shoved the broken down boxes into one fully assembled box and went to let Delilah in.
If she hadn't been trying to finish up dinner by browning the beef she would have answered the door herself, but as timing had it Mrs. Carrington wasn't able to leave the stove right that second. "HANNAH" she called one more time and was promptly rewarded by the trotting sound of her daughter descending down the staircase.
"I GOT IT!" she hollered down the stairs. Turning the corner at the mid-way landing, one of the box corners snagged the decorative piece attached to the corner hand rail causing her to drop the stack of cardboard down the remaining steps with a rather loud tumbling sound.
Setting down the spatula, worried her daughter just fell down the steps Lisa was quick to call out as she rounded the kitchen counter, "ARE YOU OKAY?"
"Yeah I dropped the boxes on accident, sorry" she flashed her mom an apologetic look before closing the distance between herself and the door. Quickly turning the deadbolt, Hannah took a hold of the knob and gave it a twist to let Delilah in "HI! I'm surprised you made it back without getting lost!" Then again her raven haired friend had just walked her home no more than twenty-four hours ago. Stepping to the side she continued "Come in come in, I just need to take these boxes," she motioned to the mess of 6 broken down boxes the blanketed the front area "to the recycling."
As Hannah worked to clean up the mess, Lisa walked over to her adopted daughter and wrapped her arms around the young girl in a tight hug "Delilah! It's so good to see you, it's been so long. How have you been?"

Delilah stood behind the closed door with a confused expression on her face. Since she had knocked, several very strange sounds had occurred. Her recognized Ms. Lisa's voice followed by the running. And then came the crashing.
Wincing as she listened, Delilah's mind chuckled. That was Hannah alright.
Shaking her head when the door opened, the ravened hair girl sighed at her friend. "So what didn't you break on the way down?" she asked, stepping inside only to be wrapped in the loving arms of her second mother. "Ms. Lisa. It's great to see you again." She smiled and hugged the woman back. "Mom sends her love and some of her fudge." She stated handing over the container.

Stepping aside so Delilah could come in, Hannah smiled at her triumphantly “Myself.” She replied with a bit of a laugh before turning around to pick up the scattered boxes that littered the landing, shoving each of the broken down ones into the one that was still intact. It’s not that she was a total klutz no; accidents just tend to happen… a lot around her especially when she’s in a hurry. Though she was grateful for the lack of pictures on the white walsl otherwise she’d be replacing a lot of frames right now. Relinquishing her hold on the raven haired girl, Mrs. Carrington took a step back and accepted the container “Oh why thank you! I’ll give your mother a call later this evening; It’s been a while and would be great to catch up. In the mean time I need to get back into the kitchen and hide this.” She looked at her daughter who in return gave her the ‘What?’ look. “Hey dad was the one to finish them off last time not me.” Hannah teased though it was in all honesty the truth. “Anywho, dinner will be done in about ten minutes you two. Delilah dear, make yourself at home!” With that said Lisa turned around and headed back into the Kitchen, followed closely by her daughter who sought to deposit the boxes in the garage next to the recycling can

The mother/daughter duo was followed by the third as Delilah walked behind Hannah, reading to scoop up anything the girl dropped...again.
"It smells wonderful. Thank you for having me." Delilah smiled at her second mother before looking around the kitchen. It was mostly set up but she could still see a few boxes that needed to be put away. Smiling, Delilah moved to open the door for Hannah.
"So how much more have you left in your room? Because I cannot believe you finished it."

"It's definately no problem, you're always welcome here you know that right?" Just because they were gone didn't negate the fact that Delilah, for all intensive purposes, was family. "Thank you"Hannah smiled as she passed over the threshold into the garage. She carefully maneuvered around boxes meant for the attic, bike handles, and the car mirror before setting her load down next to the recycling bin. Once her task was done she went back inside and rubbed her palms together as if she was wiping dirt off them "Actually... I just finished" she said with a look of triumph on her face. Even her mother had paused what she was doing to look at her daughter "Really" the influx of doubt that seeped into her voice was not missed. "Yes really." Hannah faked an offended look. "Delilah sweetie, scratch what I said before. You should just move in. I've never seen her that motivated to get stuff put away. I guess she just didn't want you to see how messy her room was." Lisa teased her daughter knowing that what she said wouldn't be taken seriously. Hannah wasn't really a messy person, if anything she just had a tendency to leave clothes scattered about her room.

Delilah nodded towards Ms. Lisa as she cooked. She was her second mother. Always watching out for her and not afraid to scold her either when needed. Sometimes she figured Ms. Lisa had introduced Delilah as her own daughter than remembered.
But when Hannah proudly announced that she was down, her smile became shock. "I second your mother on this. Really?"
Laughter echoed at the thought of moving in to motivate Hannah. Had she been younger, she would have of course jumped at the thought of this. There had been a month in their youth where they had basically just flipped houses each night to sleep after all.
"While I love the idea, I will have to pass. Could you imagine Hannah and my sewing items in the same room together? Her fingers would be covered in bandaids

"Hey now!" Hannah pointed a finger at Delilah. "I've actually gotten better at sewing... kinda. I did manage to fix a few shirts that were falling apart at the neck line." Though she knew her friend could have done a better job, at least it was something. Stepping into the kitchen Hannah grabbed three bowls, three forks and three cups. Unfortunately her father had to work late tonight and would not be joining them but he would be home by 9 so there was a chance Delilah would be able to see him. "Speaking of which, have you made any new outfits recently? it had been a while since Hannah last saw something her raven haired friend had made and was eager to see more. Delilah was quite talented with respect to design and had a lot of skill with the sewing machine.

"Yes but where they correct or did you have to pull them out six times and redo them before getting them somewhat acceptable? Her voice was joking as she cocked her head and stepped out of the way to let Hannah reach the table. Noticing the set of three, her head cocked.
"Working late again?" She asked glancing from Hannah to Ms. Lisa. It wasn't as often as her own father but all people seemed to have a few nights they couldn't make it home in time for dinner. "Is he back at his old job?"
The question from the side though made her smile. "What do you think? My sketch book is in my bag if you want to see a few things in progress after dinner."

Hannah walked back into thee kitchen to grab the pitcher of Brita filtered water. "I actually only had to redo it twice" She had the stitch length too long on one of the shirt repair attempts and had to rip the seam to redo it. "Yeah, he is. He will be home later this evening though. Thankfully they had an opening in his old department so his work with be more or less the same but with a few different responsibilities and a shift in hours." Mr. Carrington was a computer software engineer, data analysis, and computer tech all rolled into one. If there was a computer problem chances are he'd know how to fix it. Setting the water on the table, Hannah flashed Delilah a mischievous grin, finding herself half tempted to go grab her bag so they could look through the sketches while they ate but decided quickly against it. "After dinner would be great, that way we don't get food on your lovely designs."
