Jacen had never thought he would be out on his own again. What had happened? He had recently been I'll, and Colby had taken care of him---like a father. Jacen had thought he would grow up there. Maybe get married someday. What had happened, to make Colby dispise him? Hadn't the man loved him? Hadn't he? But then, the vanilite boy had thought that his first trainer loved him. She had abandoned him too.
The small boy wrapped his arms around himself and cried. It wasn't fair! No one wanted him. Was it something he did? He couldn't think of anything. Maybe he had said something wrong? But this was a rather dramatic way of punishing him, wasn't it? He wanted Molly! He wanted his room, his toys!
He wanted his Papa. "I want to go home..." he sniveled. But which way was home? And would he ever be welcome there?

Today was quite the day for little Petaya to go on his very own berry hunt! Of course, he did that before, but this time, he wanted to go find lots and lots of berries for his mother and father! Some yummy pecha berries so that he could make a delicious little fruity dessert for them!
He loved his parents! They were so kind and warm and even named HIM after a berry! It seemed that there could never be an end to his momma's kindness, and he just wanted to do that kindness back to him.. So today, his basket was full of berries!
As he continued about, he heard a soft sound, feeling all too familiar.. He remembered before when he was crying, stuck lost and alone and so very hungry.. And He cried.. for so long.. He just had to go and figure out what the crying was..
He went over to the sound, kneeling beside the gentle little crying creature.
"You're sad.. I'm sorry.. C-can I help..? Here!" He offered an oran berry to the sad, crying little boy.
"Mommy says these make you feel better.."

Jacen stared at Petaya through wet eyes. He stared for a long, long time, before sniffling, "You're like me. A pokemon." He had seen pokepeople before, but this was the first time since he had been adopted by Molly and Colby. He slowly leaned forward and wrapped his arms around Petata. "My papa left me here," he said. "He left me. He doesn't want me." There was a matter of fact sound to his voice: the vanilite boy had been through this more than once.
"T-they do?" Jacen asked, blinking. He took the or an berry and studied it. He took a bite. He shook his head. "This one doesn't work," he said. Could anything make him feel better? He had lost his family in one fell swoop of fate. "I want to go home!"

Through his purple eyes, Petaya stared back at him, then relaxed and smiled , hugging him tightly back. He was so sad.. And so cold..
"Don't be sad... I'm sorry it didn't work.. But.. But what about kisses..? Can kisses make it better? " He leaned forward, a bit closer to him, and kissed his nose. Then both of his cheeks.
" Mommy said kisses always help.. You can come to my home, if you want.."

Jacen wasn't sure what help kisses would be, but he allowed himself to be. After a moment he gave a small smile, and laced a kiss on Petaya's cheek. "They do help," he said. "Your heart must be really warm and loving inside. Because you're so warm." He hesitated at the offer, before shaking his head violently. No. No, he could never live with someone else. He had abandoned twice, he want sure he could ever trust someone to accept and love him again.
"I'm awfully hungry though," he said. "Do you have poffins at your house?"

Petaya simply grinned at the notice that he was warm, and seemed to happily squeeze him tighter, before pulling away to stand up.
"Yup, I'm warm and fuzzy, just like my mommy is! And I love everyone, so.. Yes! I'm loving!"
Jumping back a bit at the violent head shake, he seemed saddened, though it lasted for only a moment, before he was smiling again.
"No, no poffins, but I was gonna make some for my mommy and daddy! I can make some for you too! Would you like that?"

Like a candle exposed to flame, Jacen's damp face lit up. He beamed at Petaya. The joltik offering to make poffins for him was the nicest thing he had heard all day. He nodded. "Thank you!" He exclaimed. "You're so nice! No ones been thiS nice to me all day!" He wrapped his arms around the other boy.
"I'll help!" He added, pulling away slightly to take Petaya's hand. "I'm Jacen!"

"You sure did get happy fast!" Petaya's laughter was soft, but sweet, and he rubbed his cheek to the other's, before pulling away and taking his hand.
"Come on, my house is this way! We'll make lots and lots of poffins, and you can be nice and full and warm always!" He was curious as to where this boy was supposed to go after everything was finished.. He said he didn't have a home, right? Or maybe he was lost.. Petaya honestly did not know.
"Hello Jacen! I'm Petaya, like the berry!"

"Its hard to be unhappy when you've got a new friend to share your unhappies with!" Jacen said, wiping at his eyes. "It'll be good to be nice and full," he said, with a slight frown. It reminded him that he wouldn't be wrapping up in his blankets tonight. "I think I'll be cold tonight," he muttered. He was different than the last time he had been homeless. He didn't know if he would be able to last out the winter this time.
"You have a pretty name, Petaya. Thank you for inviting me for poffins!"

"... No, you won't be cold, cuz I'll give you some of my blankets! If you don't wanna stay with me, then you can atleast take some stuff with you, okay?" It was just so sad.. How was he expected to just.. To just let his new friend go like that! Maybe if his cooking was good enough, he could convince the other to stay, atleast, for some time..
"Thank you! My mommy named me. His name is Cheri. Like Cheri berry, and my daddy's name is Rose! His name is kinda silly, but don't let him know that!" Hand in hand, he led the little vanillite back to his house. It was a cozy little home, on the edge of a living complex, closest to the woods.

"Just one," Jacen said, shaking his head. "Maybe a sheet. I'm an ice Pokemon, I can be in the cold." But was he still, really? He felt more like a little boy. He had become accustomed to clothing, toys, blankets, having a pillow. Thinks he had never worried about when he had been a wild Pokemon. He missed them. "Okay. I'll take some stuff with me!"he beamed at the joltic boy's generousity. It was the nicest anyone had been to him all day.
Which wasn't saying much, since he had just been abandoned. "Your mommy is a boy?" He asked with interest. He was too young to see an issue with that: and he hadn't had one. Maybe all mommies were boys. "Rose is a pretty name," he mused. "Like a flower."

"Well, still! If you are my friend, I don't want you cold. I want you to be warm and happy and smiling all the time, okay?And Rose IS a flower, silly! Oh, not daddy Rose, he's a Nidoking!" His fingers shifted a bit as he lead the other to his home, lacing their fingers together properly. Petaya was worried about the other, but there was nothing he could do right now..
"Where are you going to go..? When everything is finished, we're done cooking.. Can you stay with me tonight atleast? We can play and tell stories and share my bed! It's a big bed! I'm little, really little, and it's big and empty so you can sleep in there with me!

"Sometimes its better for me to be cold," Jacen tried to explain. He couldn't be too warm, of he might melt! "I mean. My heart is warm, but the rest of me is okay being cold. "I'm an ice Pokemon." He paused, blinking. His new friend wanted him to smile all the time? He wasn't sure he could do that. It was hard for him to think of Molly and smile. "I'll try to smile all the time," he promised. "But I can't promise. Sometimes things are sad."
He wasn't sure he wanted to answer that question. He didn't know where he would go. "I...don't know,"he admitted, at last. "I don't know where to go. Or who would want me. I've tried twice, I don't think I want to try again. It just hurts when they've pretended to love you, and then leave you." He shrugged. "...you'd really let me stay the night?" He asked. "Okay! But just for the night."

"Well, yes! There are some times to be sad. Sometimes things hurts, and sometimes things go really bad, but smiling lets other's know everything is gonna be okay.. Even if you can't smile, I'll smile for you. Mommy says smiles are like yawns. If you smile alot, people smile back. Since you're my friend, Jacen, I'll smile always at you, so then you can finally smile too." He pushed the giant door, or atleast giant to him, open, and pulled Jacen inside, looking around for a bit, then closing it behind him.
"Mommy and daddy are out right now, but that's okay! I've baked before! And I can read, so We can follow the recipe for the poffins!" He went over to his little kiddie oven and turned it on, so that it could get hot. "Okay.. now.."
Petaya thought for a moment as his friend answered him, still moving to get all of the supplies, and the little recipe book he had for his oven.
"Well.. Maybe you have bad luck with big people. Grown ups. But I'm a kid! I'm like you! And I love you and I'm not gonna leave. Why would I leave if I live here, silly! But.. I can't go, so I'd want you to stay. I'm REALLY really glad you're here for tonight, but I'd be super-happy-forever if you could stay always!"

The smiling concept made very little sense to Jacen, but it did make him giggle. "You sound like Brenny," he said. "He told me he's only happy when he knows he can make someone else happy too. You'd like him, I think! Maybe you two can be friends! Then we'll all be friends!"
He hesitated, frowning slightly. "You live with grownups though," he said. "And of course your parents are nice to you, they love you. But they don't know me. I might upset them. They won't want me." The thought upset the vanilite boy, and his lip trembled. "I don't want to be unwanted!" He said. "I can live on my own until I find someone who does want me. Really want me... Like you do. But in a grownup. "
