A night spent patrolling the city was nothing new. Ida did it almost every night, she knew the streets of her home territory like she knew the layout of the house she had lived in since she was a small child. That didn't mean it they didn't surprise her every so often, turning up monsters in odd, unexpected places.
Such was the case tonight... no more than a few blocks from her house, the place that she lived and worked by day, in a park she and her brother had played in as children. There, Ida sensed something familiar and the feel of it chilled her soul. It had been months since she'd felt it, and the last time she'd been confronted with it, she had nearly died.
The threat posed this time was different though. This was her home and her greatest weakness was less than a mile away. Ida clenched her hands into fists as she jumped to the top of the jungle gym in the park, flipping her locator open to quickly scan for signatures nearby. It was a relief that none registered in the immediate area... one less thing to worry about. Snapping the brooch shut, the flower senshi stretched her senses wide, feeling for that dot of foulness on her internal radar.
What was Painite doing here? Was she just passing through, or was Ida going to have to deal with her personally?Quicksilver the Archangel

Horatio was not very good at patrolling. She was good at seeking out playmates and then steering whatever they were doing into what she wanted to do--aka playing. Or maybe cuddling. Or running. Or beating up the bad guys. Whatever it was, so long as there was a friend there then it could be turned into fun, fun, fun. So, when she felt a Senshi nearby she simply made a beeline towards it, happily scampering into the park's playground. Two words: Jungle. Gym. The childish cat mewed in glee as she ran towards it, and after a series of leaps and one slight miscalculation, she finally scambled to the top. She recognized the Senshi there immediately, and she purred. This night was going awesome so far! "Hi, Ida, can I play queen of the castle too and--ugh, I feel somethiing gross." The Himalayan's nose crinkled, and her fluffy fur stood on end. Nasty, dark Chaos energy, and very strong... ruined the whole playground experience and was probably why the flower Senshi seemed so tense! The tiny cat carefully leapt onto Ida's shoulder and nuzzled her face briefly before facing straight ahead. "Don't worry--I'll protect you!"

Quicksilver the Archangel General Painite wondered if someone was talking about her, or looking for her. She had a funny feeling in the back of her mind, like she was being called and she did not know where that feeling was coming from. It was a gut reaction, the kind of feeling she used to get in the news room, just before her boss came out to yell at her. She paused and let her senses reach out, catching hold of a distant senshi aura. It made her smile, and she wondered if that little Senshi was what had prickled the hairs on the back of her neck so keenly.
It was time to go on a little hunt.
Calling her weapon to her hand, the pent up General teleported from where she was to close the distance between herself and the senshi immediately. She reappeared and found that the senshi was still hard to locate, but she had always been a hunter at heart. She hadn't laid a trap tonight, but she was not going to let her new prey get away from her. She moved to follow it, and soon enough she found the source.
A grin curled the corner of her lips upward, and she gripped her spear tightly in anticipation when she spotted just who it was. And a little kitty too. She's skewer the cat and take the senshi's starseed. It would be a good night!
"Lookie at what I've found. One of my favorite little friends. We have some unfinished business between us, don't we? And who's your companion there? What lovely fur. I'd love to hang it on my wall."

A voice calling her name and a flash of cream startled the orchid senshi on her precarious perk, but she managed to hold her ground. Even when the small body leaped to her shoulder, she stood firm, one hand reaching to steady Horatio. Slender fingers worked into the soft, silky fur, feeling the warmth of the small body. It was so similar to her own pet cat, but she fancied she could feel the difference between them... one born on this world, one coming from the faraway Mau.
Ida was a little surprised to see the kitten tonight and normally she would have called it a pleasant surprise. She honestly loved the little guardian cat and had some of the most fun when she was around, but now wasn't exactly a good time, not with danger so close at hand. Horatio had told her once she had ways of defending herself, but against an officer of this level? It just bolstered her resolve to face the threat head on and do her best to protect her little friend.
Suddenly, a familiar figure appeared and Ida jumped as she spoke. Painite... after their last near-death encounter, she'd become like the boogie man, the monster under her bed and in her closet... but since then, Ida had grown, had upgraded and fought more battles that she could count. As she turned to frown at the general, her eyes were afraid, but her spine was firm.
"What are you doing here, Painite? I suggest you leave, now. Things won't be as easy for you this time, I'm stronger than I was before." Brave words... hopefully she could back them up. This could easily go south, especially with Painite's ability to teleport the way she did. Her hand trembled a little as she stroked Horatio again gently before lowering it, watching for any sudden moves.Quicksilver the Archangel

Normally, Horatio would melt into a little puddle of joy at having her fur stroked. She had a tendancy to flop over and relax all her muscles, sort of using those moments as momentary rechargings of the batteries she needed to keep up her fast-paced life style. Yet, her little body remained tense and hard under Ida's fingers, and her back remained at a high arch. Tiny ears flattened against her skull as the General spoke, and the Guardian Cat hissed instinctively. "Fair warning, stick girl, I'm not going to let you hurt any of my winners, not now, not ever, so you'd better be ready. Sticks and stones break bones but cat bites and scratches get infected." Okay, so maybe her threat skills weren't up to par, but the jovial Mauvian rarely had to make them. She had not been up against anything this powerful yet, but she refused to retch in the face of the Chaos stink. So distracted was she that she hardly noticed when the gentle strokes to her fur stopped. Horatio crouched, and her pupils widened as she prepared for a pounce. She had always been braver than she was smart. " We're going to kick her butt," she announced as she sprung for Painite, claws and teeth bare. So what if the General was super strong and clearly confident? Nothing was going to scare this kitty away from defending her winners!

Quicksilver the Archangel "What do you mean, what am I doing here? I'm hurt. I came here to see you, and check in with how you were doing! We haven't seen each other in such a long time, don't you think? Why not catch up, as only we know how?" She grinned, remembering how close she had come last time, and how much fun she could have now. Ida's only back up this time was a little cat, and a silly looking one at that. It was certainly not something that struck fear into hearts.
It was cute.
When the cat leaped at her, Painite grinned and caught Horatio by the neck, holding her out since she weighed next to nothing. Even without her super strength, snapping the poor thing in half might not have been too difficult. Painite grinned at that thought, though she didn't act on the impulse just yet. Not immediately.
"Well hello there, kitty kitty. You want to play with the big kids too, do you? How sweet you are, and your soft fur too. I think I'll take you home with me, what do you think? You could be one of our kitties, you know."
She had learned a long time ago that most White Moon senshi feared the threat of corruption, and she assumed the same was true of cats. It was that or dying, and she felt it was fair to offer them both options.
Nice gal Painite.
She looked up at the Senshi and grinned, tossing Horatio around in her grip a bit, just to shake her and rattle her. Painite kept her grip tight enough to be worrisome, her eyes on Ida.
"What do you think? Can I keep it? Or can you take it back from me?"

What a typical answer... teasing her like they were old friends who hadn't seen each other years. Her side twinged, as though the scar across her ribs remembered being a fresh wound. She remembered that attack... and the attack on the carnival. She ranked right up there with Bischofite for what Ida would consider pure evil. How could someone become so uncaring, so happy to cause pain and suffering? It was probably something she could never understand.
"Catch up? You are truly out of your... Horatio, no!" Ida felt the cat spring from her shoulder and she desperately grabbed for her, but it took her so much by surprise that she was gone before the eternal senshi could reach her. Fear flashed through her as she sailed towards the general, and not surprising, was snagged by the scruff of her neck and dangled out of reach.
"Painite! Let her go!" She shouted as she threw her hands up, hoping to stall the general from doing anything drastic... anything Ida would regret later.
Corruption had actually never been something she had considered... she'd never met a corrupted cat before and had only seen what it did to senshi. The thought would have terrified her anew. She knew the fear of loosing her starseed, having someone do that to the sweet kitten would have been nearly more than she could handle.Quicksilver the Archangel

Horatio squeaked whenever she was caught by her neck, her claws instinctively digging into Painite's hand for stability. If she fell, if she moved, she could be seriously injured. None of that really explained the anger that appeared in her teal eyes, though. She wasn't just angry because of the grip or the taunts or the threats - it was because she could not talk. For a motormouth like herself, being silenced was one of the worst possible actions. She wanted to scream back at Painite that she could take her threat of corruption and shove it because she would rather die than become a stinking Chaos loser. She wanted to cry out to Ida that it was time to kick this loser in the teeth and not to worry but as soon as she was free she was going to claw her gleaming little eyes out. Instead, she was stuck flicking her tail and tring to dig her claws in as deep as she could in an effort to get free. It was fighting time, not blacking out time!

Quicksilver the Archangel Painite felt the sharp pain of the cat sinking her claws into the General's skin, but Painite only grinned and kept her grip tight, giving Horatio a mean little shake. She was enjoying herself, and she liked seeing the way the senshi reacted to her little kitty being in danger.
And she liked being the source of that danger, of course.
Grinning ear to ear, she imagined she could rattle the Senshi a bit further. Of course, Painite knew that she did not have the power to corrupt a White Moon cat, but that did not mean she had to tell Ida that, and the cat certainly wasn't in a position to tattle on her. She just had to hope that the senshi was not already aware of this fact.
Moving one hand, still keeping her other hand firmly around the cat's neck, Painite placed her hand on the kitty's little chest. It had to work the same, right? She could just push her hand in a little bit and look for a starseed.
Really, Painite had very little experience with cats, at least this close up and personal.

"No!" Ida shouted as panic gripped her. She had no way of knowing if Painite could corrupt Horatio or not, but she knew the feeling of someone reaching into her chest and she was terrified of the ease with which the general could crush that delicate crystal.
She had very little time to decide what to do and a very limited number of options. Allowing Painite to hold Horatio like that, play with her life like that, was not one of them.
"Let go!" The Orchid senshi shouted as she darted forward and swung at the general, hoping to land a hit that would be enough to distract her into letting go of the cat she held by the scruff. "Touch her again... and you'll regret it!" She hissed between her teeth.Quicksilver the Archangel

The Mauvian felt the hand on her chest and squirmed about as best she could to get away from it. Bad touch was bad touch! This was not good cuddly time or nice strokey time or even grooming time - this was "I need a Senshi and/or Knight time"! It at least freed her throat and made her spit, "Let go, let go, let go!" Her claws were beginning to get tired from all the gripping but the tenacious feline continued to hang on as best she could. She was going to be a thorn in the general's side, if nothing else! It was still too early to call on her forehead beam... what if Ida still needed her? No, had to use the forehead laser only when she was sure she and the Senshi could get away.

Quicksilver the Archangel The General grinned as the cat continued its little struggle, though the pain in her hand was rather intense now. Claws could do a lot of damage in panic, but Painite could at least focus on other things and force her way through the pain.
She did not want to lose hold of the cat too soon, it was just too much fun.
Ida charged at her, though, and Painite had to react. She laughed and pulled her hand back, to make sure Ida didn't get a hold of Horatio, though she had to take a hit that she was not too happy about. She growled and lashed out before she could really control her instincts, pulling her arm back.
"Let's see how good you are at fetch, Senshi! Do your guardian cats fly?!" She leaped back, away from Ida, and hurled Horatio as hard as she could. She could then follow after the Senshi as she raced after the cat, and see about getting her own attack in this time.
She called her weapon to her hand, in preparation.

As frightening as it was to be attacking Painite on her own, with Horatio in danger, it was more frightening to even think about the adorable little cat in pain, or worse, dead. It drove her with a combination of desperation and passion to do everything in her power to rectify the situation.
It was gratifying that her hit scored, though the reaction to it was startling. She gasped as the general flung the cat away from her, and without thinking, the senshi raced for her with her arms out to catch the small body. She felt the soft fur land in her hands and she clasped her close to her chest, hunching her body to shield the guardian from the general she heard coming up behind her.
They had to find a way to get away from Painite... or at least a way to get Horatio away from her. She couldn't fight her distracted by her friend, worrying about her and trying to keep her safe.Quicksilver the Archangel

No, Guardian Cats did not fly. Horatio vowed that this experience would not forever be lost to them, however, because just as soon as she was done here, she was going to invent a kite or a pair of wings or something that would allow them to fly because she was really getting tired of being tossed around and flying sounded like a really fun game when you stopped to think about it and oh, wait, the ground was coming rather quickly maybe she should-- Sink gratefully into the strong arms that caught her before she could go smack and slide back to rest against her chest. It was safe and warm, and the small cat huddled in that safe place gratefully. "Good catch, Ida! Now we just need to--oh wait, wait, I have an idea!" She wriggled herself around so that she could place both of her front paws over the Senshi's chest. "I'm gonna give you a power up - but it's not an extra life, so don't go doing crazy things, okay? Okay." Horatio actually had to stay quiet for this next part because it required an intense amount of concentration. Games made it look so easy. You cross an entire checkerboard? BOOM, you're a king. Super Mario eats a mushroom? Huzzah, his size has been doubled! But powering up a Senshi? Ida's heart was warm, warmer than even it had been whenever the two of them had first met. Teal eyes narrowed, the Mauvian concentrated on pouring every bit of energy she could into that warm area and helping the purple-clad Senshi reach the next level. She knew that her flower friend could do it - and then, then they'd turn this game around for the more dramatic victory! "Now... say Ida Eternal, Make-Up!"

Quicksilver the Archangel Damn it!
Why was it that any time the General was having a little bit of fun, Senshi or whatever it was she was fighting on the White Moon side of things always found a way to ruin it? Here she was, enjoying a nice little encounter with an easy to defeat Super Senshi and a small cat.
She had been around the blocks a few times, as far as their antics went: she knew when an Eternal Senshi was about to hit the scene. That was the last thing she needed or wanted, but her pride refused to let her do anything about it. So she would kill the Eternal, what difference did it make to her? She had been playing nice, so far, anyway.
If they wanted to up their game, so would she.
"Come on, little Senshi, come over here and play with me fair. Stop running away and playing with your little pet. I want to see what you're made of. From the inside. Preferably when I spill it all over the ground." She laughed, gripping his terrifying spear and feeling the weight of it in her hands. It, as she did, wanted blood, and she would be all too happy to feed it.
She felt no fear. Not even a slight hesitation. Let the Senshi, the White Moon, throw everything it had at her: she would not be stopped.
