She had stolen his pen.

That was just about the only thought racing through Raven’s head as she left the apartment and drove off, the box of her clothes in the back seat. She had taken it and there was nothing that he could do about it. Why hadn’t she done this earlier? It was the best possible thing…and couldn’t she just blame him for being careless if it came down to it? Couldn’t it just have been an accident? Or something…or…or…

Maybe it really was their ticket of staying together.

Raven drove just a little faster, checking the backseat in her rear view mirror once every few seconds. What was she afraid of? Did she really think that the pen was going to walk off…or that Jett was going to be coming after her to get it back? No. No he wouldn’t even know that it was gone for a good few hours at least…or so she hoped.

Where was she going to put it? Should she just go to the park and dig a hole and leave it there? Or perhaps in her parents house…under her bed or in her closet? Somewhere, anywhere that Jett wouldn’t find it. Wouldn’t ever find it.
Raven swallowed hard as she drove, finally pulling into the driveway of her house and getting out, bringing the box inside with her. Her parents were gone as normal and she let herself in without a word, going into her bedroom. Where was a good spot…

The blonde looked around and went into the box, digging out his pen and glaring at it for a good few minutes. How strange that such a small simple thing could cause her so much trouble and heartache. How stupid that she could feel so threatened by it…it was almost laughable. Almost.

Finally the answer came into her mind and she went to her dresser, digging through the jewelry box, looking for a small key which was found after a few moments of looking. Raven drew the key close then opened her closet, grimacing at just how messy the thing still was, but secretly thinking that it would be a good thing in the end. She stood on tiptoe to pull down a small, locked box from the top shelf and unlocked it quickly with the small key. Perfect. Nobody would think to look there, and it was locked…and Jett didn’t even know about this box…so it really was perfect.

She dropped the pen inside of the box and locked it back up again, giving the first real smile she had given since the day before. Perfect. This was all perfect.

After putting the box and key back where they belonged, Raven flopped onto her bed, hugging one of her pillows close. Now all she had to deal with was the throbbing pain that was radiating from her heart. She wanted it to just go away.

She rolled over and muffled her face into another pillow, finally allowing herself to say the words she had been wanting to say since he told her to say them. “Jett…I really just need you…”
