Since awakening to himself Liryn's overriding purpose had been to search for his senshi - he or she was out there he just knew it, but Destiny City was such a big city, so many nooks and crannies to explore search and above all so so many auras. Liryn had faith though - he knew his path would cross that of his senshi at some point, knew he just had to keep looking.

Part of his afternoon, had been spent meowing at the back door of a bakery that he'd stumbled on last week, the owner a cheerful middle-aged lady who'd he'd found seemed to like cats and always seemed to have a bit of crust or bun to give in exchange for a little meow and a friendly rub against the legs.

Evening, however, found him in the downtown area of town, the little bobtail sensing a few auras around. Some were distant, but one was relatively nearby - certainly near enough to practically ask for him to investige.

And who knew, mayhaps this would be the night that found him reunited with his senshi.

There was something lurking in the shadows that put Varuna on edge. A small, but steady aura that had made her anxious and frustrated at the same time.

At first she tried avoiding the other aura that seemed to be trying to catch up to her, but it was a persistent little thing. While she had come to terms with the fact that she was thrown into a war with strange powers and an even stranger outfit, she wasn’t too happy with the process.

The cat that had awakened her had been less than helpful — whether or not it had been in a hurry, or just didn’t care past awakening, she didn’t know… but it didn’t give her any huge reason to trust the little animals.

Finally, tired of being obviously followed, Varuna turned around and crouched down, waiting for the cat to come around the corner so she could confront it head on.

The aura hadn’t seemed inclined to stay still though leading the little tabby bobtail a merry chase through the streets.

Despite being relatively persistent, Liryn’s legs were starting to feel a little sore with the trotting he was having to do in order to keep tracking the aura - them being so little and all.

And then it suddenly stopped, seemed to be staying in one place.

It was easier to follow now that it wasn’t moving all over the place, although it didn’t stop Liryn from managing to get his legs to put on extra burst of speed in case it source of the aura - senshi he was sure of it - from deciding to move off again.

Down a street he trotted and around a corner and then there she was, senshi like he’d thought, but all crouched down.

He trotted over to her his purplish eyes curious.

"Hello" his voice was cheerful when he spoke, even as he looked over at the blonde senshi, then the ground before finally looking at the senshi again coming to a conclusion. "Are you looking for something?"

After all that was generally why people looked down at the ground.

Varuna frowned at the small cat as it turned around the corner, giving it a stink eye. “Are you?” she returned the feline’s question with more accusation in her voice than he. She stared at it, a sense of anxiety welling up in her. Oh sure, the cat looked innocent enough, but these little animals were responsible for waking up people like her, only to leave with very little information.

She didn’t think that was the best way to be thrown into the war, and she knew she wasn’t the only one who had come into their powers with the ‘assistance’ of less than helpful Guardian Cats.

They were also responsible for awakening small children, still in grade school, into the same war that brought violence and death to those involved. Whether or not that was this cat’s intention, she didn’t know, but she wasn’t too happy about seeing it, either way. Even though this wasn’t the cat who’d awakened her, she still couldn’t shake off the feeling of bitterness she had for all of them.

Liryn blinked at the unfriendly look that he received in answer to what he’d thought was a simple question - she was the one all crouched on the ground after all, but he gave a feline nod before answering the blonde senshi’s return question.

"Actually I am" he answered simply, wondering as he spoke if she was just simply having a bad day and whether that was the reason behind the bad look. "Although it’s actually a someone rather than a something," he continued "I’m looking for my senshi see."

Although the blonde was a senshi, Liryn could tell that she was not his senshi, was not the one he was searching for. It wasn’t something he could really put into words and there was still a lot of things that were still kind of hazy, but she didn’t have the feel of his senshi.

It didn’t stop him from adding cheerfully "But I can help you look for whatever it is that you’re looking for if you want." After the senshi hadn’t said that she wasn’t looking for something and he didn't mind taking a bit of time out from the search for his senshi.

Varuna clicked her tongue to the roof of her mouth the moment the cat mentioned looking for a senshi — obviously one he was going to try and awaken. She had no idea what this cat knew about how to be a senshi, but from her own experience, she doubted it was much.

The cat would simply find a senshi, awaken them, and then run off to find another. Cats didn’t warrant a very high opinion from her.

Why?” she glowered, her plum purple eyes squinting at the cat as it spoke. She didn’t want it to help her with anything. Cats had caused enough trouble in this war. And while she kept telling herself she was happy with who she was now, she doubted everyone would be as content.

Some might awaken and be on their own and get killed before anyone even knew they needed help… so why should she allow this cat to find someone whose life it would ruin??

Liryn blinked as his offer to help the other senshi for whatever it was she was looking for was met by a glower.

"Well you looked like you were looking for something" he offered, assuming that the curt sounding 'why' was referring to his earlier offer. "But if you don't want any help then all you have to do is say so."

To be honest he was feeling a little taken aback by the blonde's hostile reaction, his tail drooping a little as it started to sink in that something about his offer seemed to have upset her, although for the life of him Liryn couldn't think what it was.

She shook her head almost viciously at the cat’s response, realizing that he hadn’t understood her question, tugging on the length of her hair as she continued to glare at the cat. There were so many things she wanted to say, and yet… would it really matter?

“Why awaken senshi?” she forced out, her words more like an exhale, and almost pleading in the way it sounded. While she had no proof that this cat had done anything wrong, or had left senshi stranded with little or no information, she still didn’t trust them and couldn’t understand the necessity of finding new people to awaken.

“Why force them to go to war??” They had lives and school and family and friends… they didn’t need to be risking their lives fighting if they didn’t want to!

Liryn stared at the senshi and for a moment there was a taken back expression on his face at the viciousness from the glare that the senshi levelled in in his direction.

His fur puffed out a little indignantly however at the blonde's second question "I personally haven't forced anyone to do anything" he said as he stared up at her with a mixture of hurt and irritation in his purplish eyes.

"And it's not like it works that way anyway," he paused for a moment, tail twitching as the hurt look was replaced by an implacable stare. "I have a question of my own for you" he continued to stare up at the senshi as he added "Since you seem to dislike all of this so much then why did you pick up the pen? Why continue to power up?"

After all even though Liryn could spot and help unlock the potential - the decision to use the power - to in fact continue to power up was one that only the senshi could make.

Why?

Varuna leaned back and away from the cat. Why did she pick up the pen? To save herself… It had been a selfish reason, and one that she hadn’t understood the consequences. But why did she continue to power up…?

Because… She had to, didn’t she? In order to help people, in order to keep herself alive.

In order to feel alive.

Becoming a senshi had saved her in more ways than she was willing to admit to a complete stranger, much less a guardian cat who awoke others like herself. Those who didn’t understand or realize their destinies, if that’s what it could be called. She had to keep fighting youma and those who intended to hurt others…

Her eyebrows furrowed, but she looked away from the cat, obviously upset with herself. As much as she wanted to move on, knowing others might be in her same situation because of irresponsible guardian cats made her upset.

“I need it…” she choked out, trying to keep the tears from building in her eyes, but try as she might to keep herself separated from others, she was still an emotional person. She needed the power, for herself if nothing else.

The answer to his question hadn't been immediately forthcoming, instead the blonde senshi had leaned back and away from him.

In fact when she had turned her face away so that he could no longer see her expression, Liryn had started to think that he wasn't going to get an answer at all.

So her response, when she finally gave one had taken him by surprise, as did the choked sound to her voice.

"Only you can choose whether to use the magic," the implacable stare from earlier was gone, Liryn's voice gentle. "No one else - not me or anyone else." The other's distress made him feel sad and he padded over to her, before gently reaching out a paw towards the non-adorned fur-topped boot not liking to see a senshi upset.
