Lance tapped the pen impatiently against the desk as the hunters filtered in one by one. "Normally I'd congratulate all of you on reaching the end of your trainee status," the Mist assistant began as soon as enough trainees were present, "But this time something's been picked up on the long range scanners. A sweep of Hunters has already gone through and taken care of the bulk of the work, but there's enough left to get your guys' feet wet. Charlotte?"

The Moon division assistant shuffled uncomfortably in her seat as attention was placed on her. "U-um," she began, "T-this is going to be a rescue mission. T-The, um, town's been overrun with zombies and we've detected a few civilians left..."

Lance took over again. "Normally we'd leave them. Deus Ex doesn't have resources to spare, however there's something odd about this hoard. It shouldn't be too dangerous for you guys -- they're just the standard shamblers. You know, Night of the Living Dead? The classic zombie that just shuffles forward moaning about brains? It's a giant gathering of those guys. Normally when something like this happens, there's something nearby that's the cause. The hunters weren't able to find the source, but since there's some civilians left..." He shrugged. "The easiest way to take care of a large hoard like that is to bomb them and pin the blame on an out of control wildfire. Can't exactly do that with civilians, yeah?"

"Your mission is to locate the survivors and escort them to the extraction site." Lance continued as Charlotte handed out maps of the town. "The extraction site is outlined in red. Get them there in one piece and make sure they don't get bitten. Fear infected wounds on a human are never a good thing."

Peyton got the text as she was heading back to her room after a bit of training, and she immediately changed and made her way to the aforementioned meeting place, and slipped inside with a nod to either division assistant. She assumed there was a missions of some sort, which had her both incredibly curious, and vaguely warily. The last few missions the tiny Sun hunter had been on hadn't gone the smoothest, and she'd only just gotten the stitches out of her shoulder and and wasn't in a hurry to repeat the ordeal anytime soon.

It was inevitable, she knew that, but was a week without an injury really so much to ask for?

Probably.

Lavender eyes gave a startled blink when Lance mentioned 'congratulations', and 'end of your trainee status', but he carried on with the debriefing so seamlessly that it took handful of moments to really sink in. And even then, she was hesitant to let the thought form fully in her mind.

Promotion.

<Bring it.>

Damn right!

Wait, had Charlotte just said zombies?

She slide to her attention to the moon assistant, and felt a distinct swell of apprehension as their mission was laid out and she was handed a map.

Tuck listened very intently to everything that Lance and Charlotte said, glancing down at the map in his hands once he'd received one from the Moon assistant. There was no denying the fact that Tuck felt immensely confident about this extraction. Evan was here, Heidi, too... Peyton was given a fleeting glance. He knew for a fact that she was skilled, but Tuck hadn't forgotten her little 'Evan is a diving board' shenanigan after the cruise had gone really south. He didn't trust her, and wouldn't until Evan said that she was worth trusting.

Whatever. He'd been laying low prior to the tournament, and amazingly enough he'd been able to avoid island drama because of it. It was something he completely intended to continue, and so clearing his throat, Tuck gave Lance all of his attention.

He was so ******** ready for this promotion.

This was it! Promotion! Heidi was so excited when she received the message. She listened eagerly to their briefing, making a slight face at the methods they were thankfully avoiding because of civilians. Heidi took the map she was given, looking it over with a thoughtful hum. "Eh? What..happens to them when they're bitten? Do they become a zombie too?" Like in the movies?

Were all movies true?

Charlotte drew a picture of a zombie to make sure Peyton understood how serious zombies were, it was a pretty beautiful looking zombie with long flowing hair and sparkling eyelashes.

"Here's the thing," Lance began in reply to Heidi, "Not all zombies are alike. The ones that can think and move around and stuff? Those are pure Halloween. These ones are corpses being reanimated. Think of how much bacteria is in the human mouth. If they're lucky, they'll just have a really bad infection. If they're unlucky and get some Fear into them..." Lance shook his head. "It can vary from person to person depending on how much Fear there is and what kind of Halloween monster we're dealing with. All in all it's bad news. Don't let it happen."

A text message interrupted him. The assistant grabbed his phone and shrugged before shoving the phone into his pocket. "Allright, looks like it'll be just you three. Evan already went through another promotion mission, so let's head on over to the lighthouse and portal you guys into position." He wheeled back away from the chair, ushering the hunters before him and all but herded them towards the portal room.

Peyton looked down at the drawing, up at the division assistant, then side long towards the others. With out a word she held the picture up for Heidi, letting her attention drift up to Lance as he explained zombies a little more fully and the risks attached with being bitten.

Don't get bitten. Sounded simple enough.

When they were being herded out the door she took her map back, folding it up and sliding it into the back pocket of her shorts.

She didn't have a whole lot to say. No questions that hadn't already been asked or answered, so she fell into line with the others and followed along to the lighthouse without so much as a peep.

She did, however, offer Heidi a very bright smile should the other girl happen to look in her direction.

Heidi blinked and looked to the drawing when Peyton showed it to her, snerking and quickly clearing her throat to stop herself from laughing. How glorious. Charlotte was a true artist. She gave Lance her attention when he spoke up again to answer her question, and her smile fell when he explained that yes it was bad when this happened and they should avoid it. Right. Okay. They'd do that. "Understood."

There was a bit of disappointment in Evan not joining them. He was Tuck's friend, she would've loved to have seen them work together. Next time. As they were herded she quickly took hold of Tuck's hand to give it an affectionate squeeze, idly swinging their hands between them as they walked. When Peyton smiled at her she grinned. "We get to play hero with a Sun~. Exciting, huh?" Yes, she was taking this seriously, but Heidi always covered up nervousness or any other less pleasant feeling with humor and giggling. Anxious habit.

"So where's this town? I didn't recognize the map're anything.." She was just curious is all.

Tuck might've muttered something under his breath that sounded something like Evan is a p***y as he gave Heidi's hand a squeeze, but he was all smiles at Charlotte and Lance. He didn't have any questions in particular, and surprisingly enough he didn't have momma-bird syndrome. This was a promotion, and he knew Heidi could handle it.

Momma-bird syndrome would kick in if things got hairy - and things always got hairy.

"We gonna be looking for the source of the zombies while we're there, sir?" The question was directed at Lance, of course, and Charlotte was given a very small, polite, oh honey you are precious smile.

"The word towns is really vague." Lance scratched his chin, "Don't know the exact details, but once enough Fear gets into it, we're looking at something that's more neutral ground, that's territory between Halloween and the actual well, our world here, than an existing location or map. A new location is created and these pockets can get out of control and dangerous. Your goal is to grab and go the civilians before it gets out of hand. We don't have any working data of how dangerous the actual threat is, or the source of it, and we'd rather not risk any more Hunters right now. Go in, grab the civilians, go to the extraction site, and leave before everything collapses. I've already flagged the nearby outpost Hunters at the extraction base, they'll take it from there once you get to home base."

The Moon assistant listened to Lance with large, enraptured eyes as if she wasn't also in charge of helping out in this mission. When the Mist assistant was done and herding everyone out, she did, however, notice the light look of disappointment in regards to Evan. Oh, they just wanted to be with their friends! This was okay too! She sent a text out to the missing party.

And that was about as good as her English and typing skills got. She should probably send a location too.

Text from Charlotte

At the Light House.

There she would wait patiently at the lighthouse portal until Evan arrived.

Lance had somewhere along the walk decided to take a detour, which ended up in him arriving before the team, so by the time they arrived was in the process of handing out equipment. "Standard issue," he shrugged, "headsets, flashlight, we're short on working pendants but holler for help and we'll send a portal when we can." He moved over to the inactive portal, pulling his own Reverse Pendant (modified, Division Assistant privileges bonus) and inserted it into one of the many rune slots on the portal. The framework hummed, and immediately lit up, glowing a pale blue. "Well, there we go. Suit up, and get ready."

Evan is invited for a secondary promo if he wants!

Evan just kind of stared, dumbfounded, at the single word of text lighting up the screen of his cell phone. He didn't know who it was from and, without context, it didn't make any sense. Maybe it had been a mistake on the sender's part. Maybe they would realize it themselves and he could unpack his s**t and go to--oh, nope, there was another one, giving him a where to go with the who.

He dutifully hauled himself down to the lighthouse and was bemused to find no one but the Moon assist waiting for him. While Evan tried to be at least friendly with most people on the island, he had never met this girl before--that he could remember, anyway, and it was sad to think that that was an actual factor. "Ma'am," he said, nodding respectfully. "Got your texts. I'm afraid I don't--" understand was what he had been going to say until he caught sight of the trio making their way towards the portal.

Friends, he thought, smiling and shaking his head. Tuck and Heidi and--well. Mostly friends, anyway. He pointedly ignored Peyton, instead turning his grin on the pair of Moons. "Aw, c'mon, you haven't even left yet and you already need backup?" Evan asked lightly.

Well that explanation sounded comforting. Though Peyton couldn't deny a budding curiosity. She had not, as of yet, gotten a chance to poke around Halloween, and there was a certain eagerness attached to the idea. Eagerness and reasonable caution. Pale lips pursed as she followed the two Moons towards the lighthouse.

Upon seeing who was waiting for them, aside from the two assistants, the dainty Sun froze, lavender eyes going wide before narrowing down on the tall blonde as he grinned towards the other two trainees. It had been something of a relief when Lance had mentioned Evan not coming, and now here he was.

That was just great.

With an unhappy frown she turned away from him, focusing on Lance and the equipment he was passing out. "Holler, with our phones?" It seemed an important thing to clarify. She put her headset on, adjusting it, then ticked her flashlight into the band of her shorts at the small of her back. When everything was in place she was about as ready as she was going to get.

Upon Evan's arrival, Tuck reached out with a big hand and clapped the other man on the back in a sort of greeting. A manly greeting. While Evan had a way of really working him up sometimes, pissing him off - there really wasn't another man on the island Tuck trusted more to have his back when things got rough.

It was a huge relief to see the big blonde sun. A huge relief.

"Glad you decided to show up," Tuck joked, noticing the way Peyton was given no real greeting or even recognition. "I think we're just about ready to get this show on the road."

Heidi took each item she was given, putting on the headset and checking to make sure the flashlight worked. The reverse pendant Lance had was given a curious look, having never seen one in person before, but it only lasted until she heard Evan's voice. She blinked and looked up to see him coming up and teasing them, grinning from ear to ear even when she realized he was ignoring Peyton. It wasn't that she didn't care, it was that she didn't want to draw attention to it and cause friction. She would give Peyton enough attention to make up for Evan ignoring her. "HI~! Yeah, we were gonna leave in a second. This is great! Now Tuck can be your Moon and I can be Peyton's~! Kinda like girls versus guys. I like it." Instead of holding Tuck's hand again she linked arms with the small Sun, giving her an affectionate squeeze.

"I'm totally ready when you guys are."
