After breathing some life into several christian guilds (and being kicked from them because of it...), it always makes me sad at how quickly things die without heated discussion. Honestly, while I at least like the spirit of this guild, it's also dead.

Why is this always the case, despite the site still being at least moderately alive?

Dead? I wouldn't say that, most of the higher members check back every so often but if the conversation is only going to between 3-4 people, sooner or later they will run out of things to go over. If you have a topic you wish to debate or chat about, launch it. Other than that, it is life that somethings fall, while others rise...

That's dead. It's always like a ghost town; people might show up from time to time but nobody lives here.

So in order for it to be active and alive, in your opinion, people have to be on 24/7?

It's an analogy, and no. There should be traffic, though. Discussions are just few and far between.

I understand what you are saying Aporeia...

I think every guild in my list but one is pretty much dead. But even the Vending Guild isn't getting as much traffic as it used to. I think Gaia's time is in decline. The admins have put too much time into off site pursuits, they have made allot of people mad by their new policies concerning re-releasing items for so much money, and allot of people just feel they have outgrown the place.

As for most Christian guilds, the others that I had tried out besides this one all seem more interested in converting non-Christians, or continuing doctrinal arguments, not actual fellowship or real debate.

I try to breath life into it by inviting new members and coming up with new topics but a guild requires everyone and well when you have only 4 people posting it gets dull fast. Also you don't have as much posting as other guilds because we don't focus on converting, we don't focus on trying to brow beat any particular theology on to anyone. I'm surprised though that we don't have people asking for advice or opinions here since we aren't here to brow beat anyone.

All of the guilds I'm in are dead. And I don't think that the lack of heated debate is why this Guild has such low traffic, I would be happy to post here and engage in discussion more often, it's just that I left Gaia in general because of all the heated debate outside of guilds that frustrated me. By the time I left I was relying on discussion in only three of my Guilds, and since I had most of those people added to facebook...I just stopped coming around.

But yeah, it has gone a bit the way of a Ghost Town here.

I get bored without meaningful discussion, and most of that on the internet amounts to trite arguments. I don't generally stick around for people who already agree with me.

I also noticed that most of the guilds on this site are pretty much completely inactive. I may post a topic about my rather unorthodox Christian beliefs that likely differ from the ones the people who still frequent this guild have to try and help with the content flow on here.

As much as I don't want it to be it is true. Guilds are dying and withering out left and right, and it is because of the current site situation (hungry cash-obsessed admins, no updates for guilds or anything else in this site besides GC items) as well as people on that 'moving on' or fallout phase in Gaia. I do, however, still run my guilds and try as much as I can to live it up. It's hard though, coz most of the guilds I have date back to 2010, and most of the friends I've made don't go on. But that doesn't stop me at all, I try not to lose hope and keep the faith that the guilds I'm in would return to its glory days. I'm currently running events and activities to help my fellow Guildies, try to make them see the people factor and interaction factor that should be remembered in guilds, 'coz most are up for just more members to come in and slapping contests and stuff in hopes that people would drop in and do something. And it's hard to get numbers these days, what with the dwindling population in the Gaia community. Occasionally I go to Towns and Forums and meet people there, and most of the time the folks have a bad view about guilds. But there are some, after getting to know them and making friends with them, I invite them to my guilds and try to let them see that guilds have pretty much the same perks as the places they usually hang here in Gaia. (: So not all guilds are dead, there are some that are still there, they're just struggling a bit. (Okay, not a bit, but a lot actually.)
