Aaaargh that video annoys me soooo muuuuuuch. It's like "I hate religion except the exact form of religion I am practising" and it's just.... so.... offensive. Jesus was a religious leader and a mystic, I just.... I don't.....
**rubs head in frustration**
I don't know. I just think it's really... not hypocritical, but... like "all men are jerks, so I must not be a man because I'm not a jerk". I'm sure there's a name for that sort of logical fallacy. Instead of examining why he hates religion and what might be wrong in his thinking, he'd rather just pretend he doesn't belong to that group. And that's either ignorant or it's dishonest.

Instead of examining why he hates religion and what might be wrong in his thinking, he'd rather just pretend he doesn't belong to that group. And that's either ignorant or it's dishonest. What I got out of it is this. Religion is always something practiced by people. Religions vary from different beliefs and that they must have a church. Most churches today only want your money instead of preaching the gospel truth and at the same time, the majority of those who practice the religion, practice hypocrite stuff too. Kids who I know that claim to be Christian, also talk about getting wasted and going to get their freak on. So what he is saying is, do you think your church is actually preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, or it's own? Would your church let Jesus in or would they call him a glutton or a drunkard all over again. Religion is just something men make to make their actions be seen as Good, while Jesus truly only asked for those who want salvation, to just accept him as The Lord and savior and that they would go to heaven.

This video bothers me too. If you believe in a personal God or Gods, you are by definition religious, the end. Just because it raises the hackles on some worldly people doesn't mean it should be treated like a dirty word.
A lot of young people are trying to distance themselves from the big R Religion of their parents and I get that. I did it myself. But claiming the identity of "spiritual but not religious" often brings with it a noncommittal attitude that basically makes people Jesus-flavored agnostics. I personally think that a person's active faith should be more passionate than that.

But claiming the identity of "spiritual but not religious" often brings with it a noncommittal attitude that basically makes people Jesus-flavored agnostics. I personally think that a person's active faith should be more passionate than that. Not necessarily. Religion, by definition, involves some form of ritual by those who practise it, so it actually is possible to hold spiritual beliefs while avoiding religious practise. That being said, I don't think I've ever met anyone who was truly spiritual and never took part in some religious ritual to express their faith. If you make it a point to pray every day, that's a religious ritual. If you intentionally take a day off work to observe the sabbath, that's a religious ritual. If you make a point to go to church on Easter and Christmas, that's a religious ritual. While it is technically possible to be spiritual but not religious, religious ritual has been closely linked to spiritual belief for the whole of human history, so it's pretty difficult to actively observe spiritual belief without ever dipping into some form of religious ritual. @ Thread: Obviously the world is full of churches and self-professed Christians who are far from Christ-like. That's been true for as long as Christian churches have existed. Welcome to the human experience: Imperfection! But should you cut yourself off from interacting with other Christians on the grounds that all of them are sinners and hypocrites? Of course not. Many "spiritual-but-not-religious" people seem to become so obsessed with distancing themselves from sinners and hypocrites that they forget that they are sinners and hypocrites, too.

Garland-Green I wish I could tip your post. smile Thanks. Come to think of it, why isn't that feature available in guild forums? Do they just figure that you join guilds to be with like-minded people so there isn't any point? Because that's not always true. I seem to recall some of the more vicious debates I've had on this site taking place in certain guilds.
