**The wind has picked up and some of the mud seems to be drying, as the battles of the day moved it around. Before was not particularly happy to see that he was going to be fighting in the mud pits again. He was very much surprised he was in the finals at all. Finding out who his opponent was, on the other hand, wasn't a surprise. This was Gale after all, and for all the time he'd known the younger man, Before had complete faith in Gale's abilities.
Of course, this meant it was going to be a one-sided fight and it wasn't in Before's favor. And Before was perfectly alright with those odds. It was more a show of good-sportsmanship that he greeted Gale with a great big smile, a hearty "This is so awesome!" and a tight hug. Okay maybe Before still hadn't fully acknowledged his own merits and the hug was stronger than he anticipated it would be.

"Yes. Hi. Ow," he wheezed out, before not-so-subtly pushing him away, his feet slipping and sliding in the mud. "That's - okay, yes, it's good to see you too."

No, Gale, never not rib-cracking. Even as he was shoved away, Before was still grinning. "I'm totes not surprised you made in the finals. But you know," the Mist hunter took a step back, "Even if I've never won against you in any of our spars, iun want you to take it easy on me." And with that, Before summoned Vanna just as he swung at Gale.

Gale knew she was there; he'd practically pulled her from Jack's fight straight to his. Guilt had solidified in her gut like ice, but that conversation was still a ways away. Still time to spend anxious and antsy. But Stormy was there to support her boyfriend (sorry, Mist bro), and cheer him she would.
At least Before was friendly. "I thought you said you didn't hug anyone else but me!" she teased Gale, helping keep things light; the heavy stuff ought to stay with her anyway. "Come on, Gale!"

This was already not going as well as he had hoped.
Gale made a disgruntled sort of sound, coughing a little as he forced himself bodily away from Before, swinging Jinhai around. Before's weapon was enormous, bigger than it had been since he'd last seen it, and Gale gave it a wary once-over, unsure if he wanted to be on the receiving end of such a thing.
"Pretty sure you're doing a good job of winning this one so far..."
He saw Stormy out of the corner of his eye, but he was determinedly focusing on the battle because thinking about Stormy right now was slightly painful. Gale swung the rifle around and fired several shots in Before's direction, gritting his teeth a little.

Turning on the ball of his foot, Before managed to swing Vanna in front of him, the large wheel taking most of the shots. Though several managed to slip through the gaps in her design, "Nah, nah!" he laughed cheerily, "You shoulda seen my fights though. The terrain did Jordan and Candace in, and uh, yeah iunno about my fight with Kat."
He turned the wheel on its spike, and once it was paralleled beside him, Before pushed the runes on the surface. The wheel shot out a small number of spikes towards the Death hunter, evenly spaced out to keep the wires from tangling.

Gale gave a small snort.
"I fought Marcus, and won, which surprised the hell outta me," he admitted, as he ducked the first swing from Before's weapon before the spikes came shooting out at him. "I've never beaten Marcus, really, except like once." His foot got entangled while attempting to dodge, and Gale rolled into a somersault onto the ground.
Which just served to make him ridiculously muddy. Gale flicked dirt from his fingers and dragged Jinhai up again, shooting in the direction of Before's leg.
"This is not exactly ideal terrain here."

The wheel was spun, again to block some of the fire but the chihuahua yelp was heard as the shots caught Before in the foot. He hopped on one leg, using Vanna for balance, "I can prolly guess why," he winced, gesturing the wide empty space. "It don't mean it's my ideal terrain either. I mean, just look at this!"
To prove his point, Before dismissed Vanna and charged at Gale, planning to use the same sudden tackle he'd done with Candace. A quarter of the way into his run, the wheel returned but rather than throwing himself full weight, Before slipped on a shallow patch of mud. He ended up tumbling into Gale, weapon and all. "See?" the Mist wheezed in the tangle of limbs and mud.

He was back in the mud again.
Gale did not like the mud.
"Ow."
Using the gun as a sort of pry bar, Gale pushed upwards with as much force as he could muster and then slithered out from beneath Before, his entire back now coated in a thick, sludgy brown slime. Annoyed, he flicked a hand, getting some of it off, and then sighed.
"I really hate dirt."

Before's inner child seemed to be enjoying himself. It was different to his fight with Candace, mostly because he actually liked Gale and saw this situation as all in good fun than a potential bout of humiliation.
Oh yeah, there were people watching them but eh, Before did not do dignity. When Gale expressed his dislike for the mud, the Mist remained on the ground and grinned. Was that a fistful of mud Before held?

"I will totes heat up water for you to wash with but that was sooooooooo worth it!" XDDDDDDD

He was less than pleased by the next method of attacking.
Wiping mud from his face, Gale made a disgruntled sound low in the back of his throat. Jinhai made a quietly soothing sound inside of his head, though it was clear the dragon was a little amused by the entire situation. Still, the reassurance was comforting, if not slightly annoying, and Gale resisted the urge to roll his eyes as he fired off a few shots towards Before.
"That's all right," he said, a bit dryly. "I like to wash by myself, thanks."

Before rolled to the side at Gale's attack, cheekily grinning and obviously having fun. Yeah, those shots hurt like a mo-fo, but it wasn't as if Before himself wasn't willing to give as good as he got. "That's good, cuz I'm pretty sure my girl won't be too happy with the idea of me washing someone that wasn't her."
He dismissed his weapon, aiming to deliver a kick from the side, only to reveal it was a feint. Before was more interested in using the momentum to add strength for when he summoned and swung Vanna's broadside against Gale.

"Neither would mine," said Gale lightly, shaking his hand again in an attempt at getting more mud off of his arm. The sticky, slimy substance made him feel slightly nauseated, but he shoved that thought away just in time to get slammed in the side by Before's weapon again.
No, this was definitely not going as well as his other fights.
He let out a little hiss of pain and staggered, dropping down to one knee. Propping the rifle up on his other leg, he pointed it directly at Before's torso and fired, his hand sliding along the barrel of the gun to keep it steady. Uneven, sloppy mud ground did not make for a nice, flat surface from which to shoot from, after all.

And there was the reason Before had never won against Gale. He didn't have the time to bring Vanna to block and the dead-on shot folded him in half. Clutching his gut, Before took a knee, planting Vanna in front of him for cover. Again the runes on the wheel's surface were pressed and the spikes shot out.
