While in the bathroom where I do most of my critical thinking, I thought of this rather interesting thought provoking question.

The question is whether or not God loves Satan.

So spoons, whats your weigh in on this?

His love is infinite.

Do you think Hitler's mother and father still loved him, despite everything?

Maybe He does, Maybe He doesn't
There is no way we can know for sure
But God is The Most Merciful and Forgiving
If Satan asked God to forgive him, God would surely do so

He loved him for who he use to be "lucifer" but not now "satan"

because for us humans its easy for us to gain pardon, because we have not seen God in all his glory where his very sight is beautiful and awesome (read out of books have not seen him myself and is not the real jesus just trying to be a good immitator thoguh and not the anti christ -_- ) But for the devil he has seen his glory he has seen his splendors and then sinned, thats like being born and then saying to your parent I want to be the dad and you my son, isn't that strange? he couldn't accept that he was a creature of some awesome mighty being so he fell wanting to one day take his place but that will never happen God is infinite and will never cease the devil on the other hand is not he is still a creature plus think this if the devils around and messing with us we wouldn't be tested and then go to heaven

I don't know if im accurate about this so look it up okay blaugh

I think there is a reasonable precedent to support the notion that God does indeed love Satan, especially if you ascribe to the belief that Satan was once the angel Lucifer (which literally means "morning star" or "light bringer") before his fall from grace.

The story of Lucifer refusing to bow before Adam and his exile to the underworld is not biblical, however, it was part of pre-Christian Jewish mythology and was also adopted by many early and medieval Christian writers. Dante's Inferno and Milton's Paradise Lost are probably the most famous examples. In many of these stories, it's quite clear that God loved Lucifer deeply, and that his disobedience pained God greatly.

I can also see how there could be a strong case for God having no love at all for Satan, since God hates sin and Satan is the root of sin.

I think he does. After all, God is love. The problem is that he is also holy, and as the scriptures say, "What does light have to do with dark?" There has to be some accountability.

I don't think Inferno was ever intended to be understood as religious truth. It was a political point that just so happened to involve the church because their teaching was fresh in the mind of readers and they held enormous political power. It's scary how much of Inferno and Paradise Lost are accepted as being scriptural by believers.

If I remember right, didn't "Lucifer" refer to Jesus/Nebuchadnezzar in the Vulgate?

I never meant to imply that either Inferno or Paradise should be treated as scriptural truth. Or scriptural anything for that matter. I'm pretty convinced that Christianity as a whole has the highest concentration of followers who never study their faith's source material.

I don't recall "lucifer" ever being used as a proper name for anyone in the Vulgate. Before it became so commonly associated with the devil, Lucifer was not an uncommon given name, but it doesn't appear as a proper name in any known scriptural sources. At least not that I know of.

Unless you're asking if "lucifer" was used as a common noun or an adjective in reference to Jesus...which is an answer I don't have. My Latin isn't what it used to be (not that it was ever that good). Though it seems very possible that Jesus would be described as a "bringer of light."

I believe the question itself stems from a failed understanding of Satan. To me, it is not clear if he is the source of the cancer, or merely the test to find it.

Yes, our Heavenly Father loves Satan, despite him being in a rebellious, irreconcilable state.

The relationship between David and Absalom, I believe, is a picture of God's with Lucifer (Absalom was David's son, the most beautiful man in the land, perfect/unblemished beauty, who turned against his own Father and tried to become king; 2 Samuel 14:25; 2 Samuel 15-18).

In the end, King David's servants kill Absalom; David was heartbroken over his son's death (despite his son's attempt to take over and assassinate him). David didn't stop loving Absalom and even mourned for his death, wishing he had died in his place; and just like in Absalom's case, Lucifer was the most beautiful creation, a rebellious son who will not reconcile with his Father, and will be killed in the end. I suspect this will pain God just as much as it pained King David.
