The first thing apparent in the room was that it was lacking any sort of lighting. It was dark, and it was cold, and it was frankly a rather strange departure from the usual comings and goings of the mysterious Hunters of Deus Ex. The second thing apparent was when the door opened, someone fumbled for the lights, cursed, and then opened a back-up flashlight, or what looked more like the lovechild of a flashlight and a giant rod of glowing blue light. It may have looked creepy, but on the other end, the effect had been purely coincidence.
"Look," said the voice carrying the flashlight, a short woman with cropped black hair in a ponytail, which is about as much as one could get of her in the lighting, "I've been told to empty all current projects out. We're having a little issue with ah, emergency generators." She laughed as if it was an inside joke. "And yeah, they mean empty as in get rid of. You get my drift. Now, unfortunately, we have some problems thanks to this broad statement. First of all, you're kind of my guest and while I am sort of out of a specialization right now until the ball gets moving again, it doesn't mean I will always be. Secondly, getting rid of you, well they make it sound easy. No portals, no access anywhere else, nothing. They don't make this work easy."
There was a clinking noise. The woman set the lamp down. "I came up with a third alternative, well, for now." Clink. Something snapped in place around the occupant in the room's wrist. "It's just a temporary solution. It's the same thing they use for those test weapons golems, though I swear to god those things are more rowdy than actual students, you guys have generally been quite well behaved actually, I haven't had much of a problem with you, despite common belief."
There was a sound of a door opening. "Well?" They paused. "Are you going to follow me or what. I don't abandon guests."

The weary purple eyes of the captured Cerberus opened into darkness as the sound of the opening door echoed through the otherwise quiet room. Was it food? Had someone come to keep him company? It was getting really lonely here, now that Thackery had passed the point of worrying himself to tears; when there were no more questions to answer or facts to rattle of, it was very clear that he was alone here. Most of his time was spent sleeping or staring at the wall (or what he could see of the wall, once the lights were out), which eventually descended into shivering in the corner, curled with his knees against his chest, hoping for warmth. Hellpuppies weren't meant to be kept in the cold. He tried not to think about home. They might be worried about him, but there was that sinking feeling that some of them might not have made it home at all. They couldn't worry if he'd lost them. Not that he wanted them to worry, but he definitely didn't want them to be lost. He missed them. But there was hope, because someone was coming to see him, and he might be able to plead for some warmth somehow, might be able to ask questions about the other side of the world. Maybe he could trade something. Maybe cuddles! Two black ears perked crookedly as she spoke, and he did his best not to frown, but frowned anyway. That didn't sound very good. And neither did the stuff she was saying. His ears twitched towards his arm to catch the noise the bracelet made, and his eyes soon followed, curiously tilting his head. What was that? A present? "I tried to be good!" he hurriedly added, pushing himself up to stand. "It's 'cause I don't wanna get anyone in trouble, and--" He paused to yawn, followed by an apologetic smile. "Thanks for coming back for me, even if it was to get rid of me and stuff. I didn't wanna be alone in here forever. But um, I was thinking, since I haven't seen a whole lot of other humans...is everyone okay?"

She didn't bother moving over to help him, just waiting there quietly until the occupant inside deemed themselves physically able to travel. Outside, the hallway was dim, but the lighting was better, a series of orange emergency lights lining the edges of the walls. Every single door was open, and now his was too.
"Of course sweetie," the corners of her mouth turned into a smile, though the other couldn't see it, "It would be the human thing to do." She paused at the very end, waiting again for them to catch up, not necessarily indifferent, but not necessarily sympathetic either. "There's very few guidelines, and yes, everyone is okay." Again, another wry smile. "We've had worse days, but it has put everything as I mentioned on hold. You don't even want to know the favours I asked to get you valid- you know what never mind. Honestly, there's just way too much going on so really, consider yourself a house guest, with a few guest rules. Number one, don't touch anything. Seriously, I wouldn't even touch half the things lying around. You'll find the clasp reacts negatively to attacking so I wouldn't recommend that too. I would also watch your mouth, running it might get you somewhere where I really can't save you. Avoid the main headquarters, that's the big building, you can't miss it. There's a giant blue flag right in front of it. I'll give you a specimen clearance tag for the non-restricted section of the labs and section A of the training fields. Try not to get in trouble, and do show people your clearance tag before you run your mouth. That will let them know you were given play time."
The door suddenly opened, a bright light pouring out. Natural light, odd light. A bright yellow sun and an oddly blue sky.
"Well, that's it. I'll pick you up in a few days, when portals are up, we've been having some cannibalism issues recently. Political stuff. Nothing for you to worry about. Oh, right." She pulled out a map, which highlighted where they were. "Training fields and labs only. Maybe ask a local for a tour." She smirked, knowing exactly what sort of reaction that would cause. "And for the record, if anyone asks who approved your clearance, please tell them Mark did. If you follow those rules, I'm sure you will continue to be just perfect. Run along now." She made shooing motions.
