The staff lounge is one floor above the student lounge, and is normally locked unless someone is inside. All staff members carry a key. The windows look out on the lake, and taller staff members standing in the right spot can be eye level with the bell tower.

There are tables and chairs on wheels, allowing for easy rearrangement. In the center of the room is a large round table set with chairs for every member of staff. Staff meetings are almost always held in the staff lounge due to lack of space elsewhere.

On weekends, brunch is served at the round table. Some of the teachers get together to compare notes on lesson plans, grade, and discuss future lessons with their colleagues over coffee and pastries.

There is a small window in the door, for students to peek through if searching for a particular member of staff. Students wishing to enter the staff lounge must be accompanied by a staff member.

Please knock!

Sister Eleanor got to the staff lounge first, unlocking the door and propping it open for the other members of staff to come through. If there were any new members on payroll this year, they might not have a key yet. She hadn't seen the headmaster at all yet, and she doubted if anyone else had.

She pulled up a chair at the round table and set down her empty binder. Hopefully she could fill it up with medical information on all their students, new and returning. The fires had wrecked most of her files, and she needed to build them back up. Never again would she be unprepared in a crisis, not if she could help it.

Eleanor sat back in her chair and awaited the arrival of the rest of the staff.
But in the end, our choices make us.

Mathieu found the door already open, and popped inside. "Morning, Eleanor," he said, nodding to the nurse. "Good summer?"

He sat down opposite her at the round table, looking around. "Dubhan's not here yet?" he asked, frowning. "No one's here yet. I wonder where they are."

Mathieu opened his grading register, hoping to at least copy down the names of his students. "So. Um. How was your break?" he asked lamely. "Gone back underwater at all?"

Ashe walked inside the longue after knocking lightly, as it was thankfully unlocked. As Ashe didn't have a key, it would've been hard for him to get in otherwise. Noticing a woman and a man in the room, he sat down at the table. He was new, so he didn't know anyone yet. Plus, because he was new, he had to remember students names. What a pain in the butt.

He got out his class list and began to read it.

The headless man swept into the room, carrying his head in one hand and a case of papers in the other. "I apologize for my lateness..." He looked around. Only three. "I see we're still missing a few."

He set down the case and his head on the round table. "For Mr. Waldeinsam, welcome to the Academy and please make yourself at home," he said, directing this comment at Ashe. "My name is Dubhan Connolly, your headmaster and Law professor. Your colleagues will introduce themselves as they see fit."

Dubhan looked around at Mathieu and Eleanor. "Monsieur, I regret to inform you that I have yet to succeed with my computer, so I have handwritten out your roster for the year," he said, handing Mathieu a roll of parchment covered in names. "Meliora, I have not received all your requested medical information from all the families, but I shall forward them to you the moment I get them," he told Sister Eleanor.

He sat down in a chair, looking exhausted. Being headmaster was harder work than he liked to admit. "I have called you here mostly to distribute rosters and make sure you all know each other, but I should pose the question of you. Is there anything you need to know before term begins?" Dubhan asked the room at large.

Sister Eleanor gave a half-wave in Ashe's direction. "Hi. I'm Sister Eleanor. School nurse," she said. "You're the fighting teacher, right? I suspect we'll be well acquainted before term's end, though I wish you won't send too many my way by accident or otherwise."

She craned her neck to look at Mathieu's roster. It was a healthy long, populated with mostly new students and a few transfers. A good number returning... it looked like they wouldn't have to close down after all. She breathed a small sigh of relief. They were safe.

"Did you manage to get those handhelds working, Herr?" she asked worriedly. Over the summer, Dubhan had asked her to investigate a handheld mode of communication the staff members could use in the event they needed to speak, but were not near an intercom. She'd gone off to the city and bought up as many handheld walkie-talkies as she could find. Of course, anything more advanced than a mechanical pencil tended to mystify Herr Connolly. "I can always fuss with them, I sense you have a lot to do."
But in the end, our choices make us.

Ashe waved back. "I'm Ashe. And yes, I am the fighting teacher. I won't send too many your way, no worries." He smiled a little. "And I don't have any questions, sir." He said as he looked to the Headmaster.

"You have a computer?" Mathieu asked incredulously. Imaging Dubhan operating anything that ran on electricity bordered on comical. Although, he supposed, it made sense given the man's sudden promotion to Headmaster. "You got him handhelds?!" he asked Eleanor. Was she mad?

He nodded to Ashe. "Monsieur Mathieu Marrouf, I teach literature," he said. "Let me know if you ever need anything. Staff's gotta stick together."

Eleanor threw a pencil at him from across the table. "Aie! What!" he snapped at her disapproving look. "I swear."

He looked over his roster. Oh thank god, the schedule had changed for the better this year. Finally divided by year, as he'd always wanted it. Although... there didn't seem to be many upperclassmen. "Did we lose a lot of students?" he asked offhandedly.

"Please do, Sister." Dubhan slid his case across the table to Eleanor, letting her do whatever black magic was necessary to figure out how a battery fit into the blasted things.

"Unfortunately, yes. The incident last winter has crippled our reputation and we must work hard to recover. We have a decent influx of new students, but we must be sure not to lose any more. Most of the major world powers are already overlooking us as an option." Dubhan rubbed the back of his neck, thinking hard. "The best we can do to ensure we keep receiving students is to provide the best education we can and hope that word spreads that we are a safe place to learn."

He waved to get Ashe's attention. "You've set up your classroom to your satisfaction? And your dorm? Let us know if you need any assistance, we are quite used to helping each other get through the year."

Lord August Jaegar

August hurried into the room, a sheepish expression on his face due to his tardiness.
"My apologies for being late, Dubhan. I had a bit of trouble finding socks," he said, glancing around the room. He gave each of his colleagues a smile. When he saw an unfamiliar face, he said, "Oh, hello. I'm August, the history teacher." He walked over and held his hand out for the man to shake.

"Mr. November, thank you for joining us," Dubhan said, passing August's walkie talkie and class roster down the table towards him. "We were just discussing the Academy's diminishing reputation and how we must continue to do our best despite the circumstances. I wish not to have another incident such as last year's."

He scratched his head, wondering what else to say. It was his first staff meeting as headmaster, and he honestly didn't know what to do. "Er. Please, feel free to set up your classrooms and let us know if you need help. Have any of you seen the missing ones?" he asked, wondering where on earth Rob and Harley were. He supposed he could always catch up with them later, but...

Ashe shook August's hand firmly. "I'm Ashe, and I teach fighting." After shaking August's hand, he heard the headmaster comment on last year. Ashe wondered what had happened. Ashe was never told what had happened but was told not to ask.

Staff... Room..., Izromos thought as he stared at the words. English had not been his first language and despite the fact that he had been learning it since young, it was not easy to read. He spoke it more often. It was definitely something he was going to have to work on. He knocked on the door, as was the proper before entering a room that did not belong to oneself. As he waited for someone to come and allow him entry, he looked down at his attire. That was when he noticed that his boot lace had come undone. Kneeling down, he began to retie it, hoping he wouldn't be waiting too long.

"I'll get it." Eleanor stood up with a bit of a frown. Hopefully, it wasn't a student already in search of staff. She pulled open the door to see a kneeling man who appeared to have... were those gills? And fins?

"May we help you?" she asked, closing the door slightly as Mathieu waved her down.

New staff! he mouthed at her. Security! Let 'im in!

Has he been vetted? Eleanor mouthed back. Dubhan waved "yes" at her, she opened the door to allow the stranger in. "My apologies," she said, returning to her seat. "Please, come in."

She reached to her right into Dubhan's open case of handheld radios, and picked one up. "All staff members need to carry this so we can maintain contact in an emergency."
But in the end, our choices make us.

When the door had been opened, Izromos quickly stood up, bowing to the woman who addressed him.

"ՈէոօոօԽ, pardon me. I am Izromos Sheityra. I am the new... Security guard," he said the word with such unfamiliarity, his accent making the word sound rather odd.. Gingerly walking into the room, far too strange for his tastes, he took note of all the other members. There smelled of two humans, a human with elven blood, and two others he wasn't sure of. He immediately noticed a man without a head and almost turned on his heels, far too nervous with his surrounds. Calm yourself. Mervid males are strong. In the midst of his observations, the woman who had opened the door for him and welcomed him in held a device in her hand. Staring at it oddly, he slowly walked towards her. He noticed her brilliant blue eyes immediately, but the device she held was far more interesting, if not intimating. Gently taking the thing from her hand, he looked it over with interest.

"What is this thing?"
