There wasn't much Mae could do to help the injured Drakein as they made their way slowly from the lake, as much as he wanted to. But Sam was too big to lean on him, and Mae didn't have magic that would be useful in moving him... Usually, he wouldn't have cared one way or the other if a Drakein was injured. They were out to be rid of Magescians, anyway. But Sam wasn't. Sam was peppy and genuine and he actually tried to protect Maeron and his young companion. That merited help in the Orderite's opinion. Plus... He found he wasn't particularly fond of the scent of blood. It was actually making him a bit queasy. More so than even the sight of the large, bloody gash. This was kind of a new feeling for him. He'd been hurt before, and it had never bothered him. But it was pretty rare that he ever came in contact with someone else's blood. "If we can just get a safe distance away, I can look for some herbs to make you feel better! I've read about them, and I know this forest well enough, so I'm sure I could find something that would at least make it stop hurting and maybe keep infection out. We should probably clean it up a little... I can get some bandages from the house, and..." He continued on as they walked. Darke pounced along at his heels, occasionally peeping in agreement.

Sam could only chuckle. It hurt, yes, but it wasn't that bad. He'd probably had worse, and he'd never used herbs or anything before. He had a decent immunity system, so he wasn't concerned about infections, and he'd certainly felt worse pain... He usually cleaned up all on his own. But he also didn't think he should deny the kid. He might become offended... And even though Sam hadn't known this two-legger for very long, he certainly seemed the type to hold onto any misgivings he had. Sam settled in a nook between two trees whose branches were growing into each other. "I'm sure here is fine. We've gone far enough." The Drakein told Mae. He settled onto one side, crossing his forepaws over each other and smiled up at the lad. "And I'd be very grateful if you wanted to find those... herbs, or whatever. As long as you're careful." Once Mae departed, Sam would be free to clean up the only way he knew how; with his tongue.

Mae agreed instantly, eagerly. Anything that would get him away from that vile smell. "We will be." He promised with a nod. he leaned down to scoop up the young feathered Drakein at his side and tossed the youngling across his shoulders. Samael frowned a bit. He wanted to question whether or not it was really a good idea to take Darke along (and the strange treatment). He'd probably be safer laying low with Sam rather than gallivanting about looking through the grasses. But before he could say anything on the subject, Mae had taken his companion and departed through the greenery.

Samael was not thrilled about the quick departure. A kid wandering out alone in these woods was not a good thing, whether Mae knew it or not. But the Orderite did seem to think he was smart, so maybe he knew not to antagonize the beasts in the woods. Sighing, the brown Drakein set to work cleaning himself up, passing his rough tongue across the gash to clean away the blood. Maybe they wouldn't travel too far, and he'd be able to hear them if they got into trouble... If they didn't return by the time Sam finished, he'd just have to set out to find them.

Mae ran through the trees eagerly. He already knew what he wanted to bring back to Sam, even if the brown Drakein didn't approve. The particular herbs he wanted grew pretty well in the mud. And he bet that anything that grew on the lake's edge would have extra special healing properties from the water. But what he really hoped for was another run-in with some Peisios. He'd already managed to kill one on his own (even if Sam had been there), so he was sure he'd be able to handle it again. And if he brought back treasures from his battles, he was sure the Drakein would have even more respect for him! And maybe he'd stop questioning his actions with Darke, too... Speaking of which, the youngster was still perched on his shoulder, doing his best not to be dislodges by Mae's bouncing. His little claws sunk into the scarf around the boy's neck, tugging on it to keep himself balanced, even though it nearly choked the Orderite every time Darke gave a particularly unsteady lurch.

As the lake drew near, Mae wondered if he should try the far side of the waters. Yes, it would take him much longer to reach, and that would be time that poor Sam was laying in the forest wounded, bleeding, and prone to infection. But Maeron wasn't sure he'd see any Dragons on this side... They'd already fought quite a few, so what if they were scared off or in hiding now? Mae would be scared if he knew some vicious killer was hunting him too. The boy smiled smugly and tossed a bit of hair over his shoulder. Of course, the strands smacked Darke in the face, making the Keinling chatter at him in frustration. The long purple bits wrapped around his neck and caught in his mouth. Feeling particularly fiery today, the sky-colored youngster gave that silky hair a harsh tug.

Mae yelped loudly in surprise. Caught off guard and off balance, he staggered the way Darke pulled him. Somewhere along the line, his feet tangled up and he crashed to the ground, slipping into the mud by the banks edge and winding up head-over-heels in the water, taking his bonded companion with him. It was a mistake in and of itself. Darke hated baths. The second the Keiling realized that they were headed straight for the water, he started to shriek. Loud, high-pitched calls that had the birds fluttering from the trees. And then the Keinling was pitched from Mae's shoulder and straight into the water by the force of the Orderite's falling. Thankfully, standing on his hind-legs kept him from drowning, but the calls didn't stop. It helped Mae find him amongst the water.

"Agh, Darke!" The boy groaned, covering one of his ears with one hand and scooping his companion up from the water with the other. Mae sloshed from the water with Darke's cries still ringing in his ears. The two were sopping wet, with nothing to dry themselves with. And Mae doubted those wails would stop until Maeron was fluffing his feathers with a nice warm towel. Not today, Darke, not today. The Orderite huffed and scoured for some dry leaves to pat him with, not that it did much... Darke's feathers seemed to do a decent job of shearing off water, anyway... Mae didn't really know what else to do for him. But while the Keinling still howled, Mae spotted a plant on the bank. "Oh!" He chirped, running down to retrieve the greenery. One of the herbs that would make Sam feel better. As he plucked it from the ground, he heard a roar, and turned his teal orbs out over the lake: three Peisios, summoned by Darke's cries.

This was what Mae had been waiting for. Sure, there were three of them and one of him, but if he just took it one at a time, kept out of their attack ranges and kept Darke safe, it wouldn't be so bad. Of course, Darke didn't know to stay away, they were completely within the Peisios attack element, and Mae was going in empty-handed, but it was still possibly to win, right? As the Orderite stared up at those looming dragons, he was starting to wonder if this really had been a good idea. It had only been because of Sam that he'd been protected before. And if he died... He cast a glance over his shoulder to Darke, whose peeps had quieted, but not halted. The little ball of feathers sat bunched up, ruffling himself up to try and appear larger, even in his wet state. It would've been cute if Mae didn't find himself completely and utterly terrified.

One of the Dragons swiped out a paw carelessly, smashing it into Mae and sending him flying through the air and crashing into a tree. The Orderite boy gasped in shock and pain, struggling to draw in a breath through his stunned lungs. Even the Dragons seemed to realize there was no threat here... They sauntered from the water, licking their chops and flicking their tails. Mae staggered to his feet, trying without much success to get his legs to at least point him in the right direction. But it was tough. If he could just get to Darke, maybe he could save the little one. He stumbled from the tree, hardly making it two feet before a large tail hit him in the gut and sent him sprawling onto his back. Even from that position, Mae could see his sky-colored companion with a shadow looming over him. The little Keinling hissed violently at the Drakein that towered over him, but even his tiny claws refused to budge. the Dragon raised his paw. He wouldn't have to do more than step on Darke to finish him. "Darke!" Mae shouted in alarm as those large claws came down.

But it crashed down only onto a slate of earth that sprung forward to defend him in the nick of time. Sam came barreling from the trees, launching himself off the platform and slamming into the beast. Once it was down, he pounced on it hard, and Mae heard the painful sound of ribs cracking. It tried to roar, but the only thing that came out was oozing blood. But Sam had no time to revel in his victory. He turned to the two beasts who were assaulting the Orderite. He speared one through the wing with a jet of earth, before diving at it and tearing its throat out. Mae's eyes were wide in wonder and horror. When Sam was in this kind of frenzy, there was no stopping him.

The third beast posed as little a problem as the first, and it probably wasn't simply because it was the smallest of the three. rather than enraged, it seemed distraught over the loss of its two companions. That gave Sam plenty of time to charge in with his teeth bared, nipping and tearing at it until it was too weak to fight on. Once that was done, Sam approached Mae to help nudge him to his feet. A simple sweep of his tail was enough to pull Darke close enough to be scooped up and squeezed by the little Orderite.

Mae panted fearfully, letting his fingers roam across those soft feathers to soothe him. Drakeins really were vicious... Sam had been violent, but also brave and strong... His heart definitely would have been that of an Orderite's, if he'd been born a two-legger. "Sam?" Mae whispered softly. "Would you please escort me home...? There's something I want to ask you..." Maybe Serenia wasn't the best place to do his training... Smiling softly, the Drakein nodded and followed him off.
