She was going cat hunting. There was just nothing else to do. She needed some answers, and a guardian cat could perhaps give them all to her, but first she had to find one. She was equipped with the best gear possible. Two cans of tuna, a butterfly net, a cat toy from the pet store, and a bell from the pet store. There was no possible way that she wouldn’t catch one tonight.

Lutetia set up her camp near a playground out in the park, opening her tuna cans and waiting, holding the cat toy up so the little sparkly feathered bird like thing swung in the slight breeze that filled the evening.

There were just so many questions that she wanted to ask the cat once she got one, and she was exceptionally excited to get them off of her chest. Sure, Tsui had said that she couldn’t change her sphere, but maybe a cat would say otherwise, and maybe a cat would be able to tell her how to become a real senshi, because that would just be awesome, and that was what she wanted more than anything right now.

Well, maybe she wanted to find a cat pretty badly too. “Here kitty, kitty, kitty! I have some tuna for you, please come out! Wherever you are!

Horatio was never much one for math, but this equation was easy to solve. What did tuna + toys + new friend equal? The need to absolutely run over with every ounce of speed she possessed and claim all of them before some other feline could. Luminscent teal eyes followed the movements of the toys as they swayed in the evening breeze. It had feathers and was that a bell?! She could play so many games with those things... either by herself or with her new little Senshi friend who called out for a kitty. Her mouth also watered over the offered cans of tuna. It wasn't salmon, but it was still wonderful, flaky fish and she wanted it. Her claws kneaded against the bark of the tree she currently sat in, one conveniently behind the little Senshi.

Why then, did she hold back? Well, a prankster like Horatio couldn't just come when called. Anyone calling for a kitty was pretty much asking not to receive one, right? But the girl was a winner, and a winner with so many wonderful things... so it was impossible to stay away. A grin crossed her muzzle as she lowered herself on the branch. After assuming perfect pouncing position, leapt down from the tree - and landed on the girl's old-fashioned hat. "BOO!"

She had been hoping for a cat, this much was true but this didn’t mean she had been altogether prepared to receive said cat. When she felt something fall onto her head, Lutetia let out a scream, using the cat toy in her hand to start hitting at whatever had landed on her, praying and hoping it didn’t have rabies.

When she managed to give herself a few good whacks with the bell, the chibi stopped, reaching up to rub at her head. “Ow that hurt.” Finally something seemed to register in her mind and she paused. “You talked. You said boo. You’re a guardian cat? Or maybe you’re a very small person. Whatever you are, you’re on my head and I’m sorry for hitting you. Do you want some tuna?”

Hitting a guardian cat might have been a big mistake, and right now she only hoped that it wasn’t too late to fix whatever damage she might have done.

“I have a lot of questions. And I was hoping to get some answers for them. If you don’t mind giving the answers, that is.”

She was under attack!

Horatio clung for dear life to the hat,a lifeboat even when the super fun toy became a weapon. A painless weapon, but still a weapon. All she could do was arch her back and try to avoid getting smacked and... well, that worked a couple of times, but it still hit the Guardian a couple of times too. Was this some new form of Whack-a-Mole involving kitties? If so, Horatio may have found the one game she did not want to play! The little winner's scream was some kind of comfort that the prank had gone as desired but it clearly wasn't the kitty's finest hour.

When the hitting finally stopped, Horatio's eyes were wide and her fluffy tail flicking here and there as though it were scared to stand still. She relinquished her death grip and hopped down to a shoulder, and then a lap as she mewled, "I'm a Horatio guardian cat, and it's okay the hits didn't really hurt but next time you should tell me the rules of the game. You had all sorts of wonderful things and just looked super pounceable and fun to play with and--yes, tuna, please, and play time, and cuddles!"

The Himalayan placed her tiny paws on the girl's cheeks in order to indicate that she was totally serious about getting all of those things and then turned and helped herself to an open can of tuna. "And since we're going to be eating, playing, cuddling friends, I can answer questions! I like questions, I like giving answers, so fire away but my mouth might be full so give me a chance to swallow first, okay?"

Lutetia watched, still seeming kind of nonplussed at the way that the cat was just talking. Like it was absolutely nothing and like cats just decided to talk every day of every week of every year. It was something that, even though she had seen it once before, and even though this cat had said ‘boo’, it was just too much to hear full sentences coming from the mouth of an adorable cat.

Finally the senshi managed to close her gaping mouth and picked Horatio up before she could dig into the tuna, bringing her back up, holding her little cat cheeks in her hand to show that she was serious also. “My name is Lutetia, and I really must ask a million things. The guardian cat that awakened me just left me with nothing but my name and my sphere, and the way to power up. The stupid thing didn’t even tell me how to power down, and I’m sorry. But guardian cats just aren’t on my list of best friends right now, but you do seem nice. Even though you jumped on me.”

She put the cat back on the ground right by the tuna and sighed. “First off, I want to know why I’m still a chibi. I met a senshi, and her name was Columba and she said when I turned fourteen, I wouldn’t be a chibi anymore, but here I am. And why do I have to wear this dumb hat? I look like a character from a badly scripted television show. And can I change my sphere? Migration is dumb. And why can you talk? Can all cats talk? I mean I guess they can’t. But how did you become a guardian cat? Why am I a senshi?”

Lutetia drew in a deep breath and stared down at the cat. Sure, she had asked a bunch of things, and now she just had to wait a bit for some answers. And hopefully they would be good ones.

Sorry for wall of text. xD; Let me know if anything doesn't come across clearly!

Sweet, succulent tuna was so close that Horatio's little mouth was watering... but she could only take a single, fulfilling bite before she was being pulled away from the tasty feast! She chuffed in protest even as soft, tiny hands took hold of her fluffy cheeks. Lutetia was obviously a go-getter of a winner, but... "Oh come onnnn, it's really mean to wave a shiny toy and wonderful food and then say 'oh, well, you can't have these things until you do what I want.' But... okay, I'll answer all the questions and then we can eat and play?"

Large teal eyes widened all the more at the discussion of her awakening, and the Himalayan scoffed. "Well, obviously you should've come to me because I would've made sure you knew everything you needed, Lutetia, but I'll do it now--except for powering down because I'm assuming you figured that part out on your own. Then WE can be best friends, okay? Okay."

Being lowered next to the fish was too much of a temptation for the cat who purred happily and nommed down (much more quickly this time) while the young teenager listed question after question. Horatio heard them all but did not even begin to answer until the multitude finished rolling out. At that point, she lifted her head from the mostly empty tuna can and licked at her lips and muzzle. "Okay, that it? Here goes!"

The Guardian took a deep breath almost at the same time the Chibi Senshi did, but if Lutetia was calming herself, Horatio was merely getting ready for a veritable dump of information.

"Okay, Columba was only half right--see, it's not like an 'Oh you're fourteen now dingding time to grow up!' alarm goes off in your starseed, right? If you wanna become a big Senshi you've got to go through a ritual first, and then you won't be a Chibi anymore... which is really sad, okay, because Chibis are way more fun to play with and when they get older it's all fight this and blah blah that. Even if you go through the ceremony, you'll still have your sphere and your dumb hat--well, definitely the sphere, I guess the hat might go away. No refunds, no exchanges, so sorry!"

"See, you're a Senshi because your starseed--that wonderful little glowy warm spot in your chest that marks you as a winner--is that of a Senshi. It's all cosmic fate and stuff; some people are Senshi, and some aren't. That's just how it goes. So, you're Lutetia of Migrationf or life and can I just say that Migration seems like an awesome sphere to me because it's sort of like... a big ole game of tag, right? Run over there, then run back, it sounds like fun! And when birds do it, it's even more fun because it means the seasons are changing!"

The Himalyan stopped here because she got distracted by a moth landing on her nose. Wriggling it to no avail, she finally just pawed the little creature off and watched it flutter away. "Where was I? Oh, right, Guardian Cats. Of course not all cats can talk, silly! I think I've always been a Guardian Cat, at least for as long as I can remember, so... I guess that's that?"

Lutetia scoffed. It would have been a lot better if she had been awakened by this cat. At least she was nice and answering questions. And not being rude. The chibi listened through all of the answers, letting her hand drift down to pet the Himalayan gently as she talked. Some of the answers were fine, sure so no refunds or exchanges and she was most likely stuck with the hat. And Migration and all that, whatever. She could deal with it. Maybe she could just take scissors and cut the hat up to make it look a little more fashionable. Or do something.

She was very confused about the topic of the ritual. “What sort of ritual are we talking about? Do I have to sacrifice someone under a full moon or something? How do I complete my ritual? And what is it? Can you tell me?”

The senshi picked the cat up, plopping her into her lap and beginning to scratch behind her ears. “I’m kind of eager to get to the being friends and playing part of this, you know. So thanks for answering all of the things that I want answered. It means a lot. I guess all guardian cats aren’t terrible after all. I was really thinking they were.”

Horatio was taking a small break to grab another breath and lick around her muzzle just in case there were any lingering tuna bits. The open can was still giving her the biggest hunger pangs but she tried really hard to concentrate on the last few questions so she could get back to eating and playing and having fun! She found the pets and being placed into a little lap as indications that she was doing a good job and, always an an attention-whore, she tried to continue doing good so she'd get more! At the suggestion of a sacrifice, she chuffed in amusement but shook her head, "No, don't do that those kinds of sacrifices are very bad and we're defenders of righteousness and the good guys, so don't go around hurting people and expecting it to be a good thing okay? I dunno what your ritual in particular is because it differs from person to person but you gotta show your planet that you've earned your big girl powers! ... you've been to Lutetia, right?"

At the admission that the teen wanted to play and be friends, the Himalayan rolled away from the wonderful skritches on her ears in order that her fluffy tummy could be available for pampering. Her paws batted at the Chibi Senshi's fingers, all thoughts of the ritual out of her head as she tried to think of what game they could play first. Tag? Fetch? Hide-and-go-seek? Eating contest to see who could slurp up the tuna fastest? The possibilities were endless! "It can be play time now? I'm as good at playing as talking, maybe better in fact!"

“I was just mostly joking, I figured that we wouldn’t be much of the ‘sacrifice someone’, type, that’s just the first thing I think of when I hear the word ritual, you know?” Lutetia leaned back against a tree, still petting the cat. “We can play I guess. I mean, I don’t mind. We could, hm.” She trailed off, scratching the cat’s tummy for a moment, laughing as her fingers were batted around.

Finally something clicked and she paused. “Hang on, back up a minute? What did you mean by show my planet that I’ve earned my powers? And what do you mean by have I been to Lutetia? That’s a place? What?”

It almost felt like she had been hit with a ton of bricks. What was this crazy cat talking about. The only planet she was from was earth. Right? Lutetia was just her fancy name that she was stuck with because. Well, because of some silly rule that she didn’t understand, and didn’t really care for. This was all some silly thing that she still didn’t understand, and was beginning to care for less and less by the moment. “Where do I have to go? And how do I get there?"

Finally! Play, play, play, plaaaay. Horatio's batting of the fingers only became more intense as she squeed, "YAY! I can fetch, or we can climb a tree or do a foot race--but fair warning, I'm pretty fast and... and... awww, I know that look, that's the 'I've got more questions look'--"

And sure enough, little Lutetia did. It was really hard to be a Guardian Cat who wanted to play whenever there were so many questions to be answered, all the time. She gave a little pout and looked longingly at the shiny, shiny bell but... well, if her new friend was having fun playing twenty questions, then maybe that could be a fun game too!

Besides, space travel was super cool!

"Okay. Up there--" she batted a cream colored paw towards the night sky. "Up there, there's a place called Lutetia. I don't really know starstuff so well, okay? It might not be a planet, it might be a moon or a star or an asteroid, but somewhere there's a Lutetia. And it's tied directly to you! So you can go up there and visit it. Awesome, right?"

Oh right. Rules, all games had rules! Not fair to the player if they didn't know the rules.

"You have to find Lutetia's call. If you look up into the sky and concentrate really, really hard... you'll eventually hear it. Then you latch onto it and then you press the 'home' button on your Senshi cell phone. ... you got the cell phone, right?"

She looked up at the sky as the cat pointed to it and stared blankly for a few long, long moments. Wait. So she could go up to space? Well. That had never really been brought up before. Or if it had she had really shrugged it off as just someone saying something dumb. Which was something that happened more often than she would care to admit. But still. She could go up to space, to this Lutetia place and then she would be able to become a real senshi? Well. This seemed like it was something she should invest in.

Or at least look a little more closely at.

She had zoned out for a good part of what Horatio was saying, though when a cell phone was mentioned she quickly looked down at the cat. “You mean I get a phone? No. I was never given one. Remember, you’re the first cat to really give me any help with any of this. I suppose giving me a new cell phone wasn’t really high on the other cat’s priority list. Can you give me one? I would love one. Will it have internet access? And can I take selfies with it?”

Oh she had far too many questions. She hadn’t even realized she was this curious about everything. But hey. Curiosity killed the cat, or in this case, it made the cat want to play even more. And really, she would have to help out with that. “I do promise I’ll play tag and hide and seek with you and everything, I am so happy you’re being so nice to me, so please just bear with me for a bit longer?”

Horatio scurried out of the Chibi Senshi's voluminous skirt because she needed space to dig around in her own magical space. The girl in the silly white bonnet had obviously gotten her henshin pen or she wouldn't have been able to power up... so all she needed as the cellphone! The Mauvian gave a little dash, running one paw purposefully on the ground until a cellphone magically appeared!

Gripping the phone up in her mouth as best she could in her mouth, the small Himalayan drug it back to Lutetia and promptly plopped it in her lap. Along with her fuzzy self, of course! "Here it is! You can use this to keep track of other Senshi by scanning them, and you can contact other Senshi with it or me and the home button can you take up to space. So don't lose it, okay? Keep it safe with your henshin pen. Oh, and you can text with it? I dunno about selfies and stuff."

Now the intrepid Horatio put both of her front paws on Lutetia's little chest and gave her the biggest, saddest kitty eyes she could muster as she mewed, "Can we play now? Pleeeeeeeease?"

Lutetia watched, quite fascinated as the cat produced a cell phone out of mid air. Out of nothing. The girl picked up the cell phone and looked it over for a moment, seeming quite impressed. “I see. Well, thank you very much Horatio.”

She would take care of the phone and the planet thing later, she was sure. Right now she had a promise to fulfill and she was almost more than happy to do so. Laughing the senshi reached down, scratching behind the little cat’s ears. “Okay, okay. You win.”

Picking up the cat toy, Lutetia began swishing it around, letting the feather tickle the guardian’s nose. “Is this good enough for you? We can run around if you really want to. And, hey. Horatio? Thank you. Really just thank you so much for answering everything. I think you’re a much better cat than the one who made me a senshi, and I want to be friends. I’ll feed you whenever I see you, if that’s all right.”

She hoped it would be. She really did. She owed this cat, for this was more than just answering simple questions. She had gotten Lutetia even more excited to be a senshi. Even more ready to just go out and do things.

But things could be done later. Right now, it was play time.

The excited cat purred whenever she was rewarded for her hard work with ear skritchings. Truth be told, she did not mind answering questions. It gave her time to make new friends and playmates and it was sort of her job, after all. She needed to make sure thate everyone of her winners had the tools they needed to fight as best they could. Keep them playing in the game!

Teal eyes began to follow the feather as though Lutetia had found a hypnotist's coin and wanted her to follow it. When the feather hit her nose she instinctively leapt for it. When pulled back out of range, she raced to get a speech out before it lowered back in range again, "No worries, I'm always here to help, and of course we're friends, how could we not be friends after spending so much time together and yes, lots more fish please and and and oh please lower it down again I want to bat it and the feather tickles."

Lutetia laughed, obliging the cat and lowering the feathered toy. “Whatever you want, Horatio. If you really want, after this I can take you back to my dorm and sneak you in and we can play all night long as a thank you!”

It wouldn’t be a bad way to end the night, plus Horatio was a very adorable cat, and she wouldn’t mind getting to know her a bit more outside of the whole senshi thing. “I have more tuna in my dorm after all, I hadn’t really expected to find a cat right off the bat like this, so all of my extra fun things are back there!”

Lutetia looked from her left to her right, then let herself power down, leaving Samantha cross legged with Horatio in her lap. “When I’m not Lutetia, people call me Samantha, so hi.”

She felt a great sort of inner peace, and excitement. This had been the best possible outcome, and it wasn’t even done yet. She answered everything, and now she had a new cell phone and a guardian cat friend. There wasn’t anything better that could happen with all of this. Not really, at least. If Horatio had been able to make her into a real senshi, that would have been the very best outcome, but she couldn’t force things to happen. She had to make them happen. And she would go to Lutetia and do just that. As soon as she could figure out what she had to do, but that would be another night. Tonight, it was play time. And fish time. And finally it would all end with cuddle time and sleep time.
