She had gotten up early before dawn and jogged down to the beach, Stryker snapping out his encouragement in her head.

Pick up that pace! Get that heart thumping, ghoul! You aren't a zombie, so don't you move like one! Feet up! Higher! Higher!

America was feeling pretty lively and confident as she approached the shore, air tank in hand. Shaking out her limbs, she eyed the waves, the waving tentacle in the distance, and decided that this was a ******** awesome decision. She was going to storm this underwater stronghold and kick the ocean's a**.

And get runestones to carve.

That too.

She quickly began to strip off her clothes, hopping a bit from foot to foot in the morning chill.

Dude, you're slower than molasses.
Seriously, even we move faster than this and we have to agree to do it.

Solomon didn't really like the cold, to be honest, but he also didn't really sleep either, so getting out in the morning (just like everybody else on this rock seemed to do) had become something that Aren had to actually make him stick to.

He had regretted the decision immediately upon walking outside. In fact, he was pretty sure in his '******** it's cold' punctuated jaunt he'd been lapped by a girl who was younger than him at least 4 times (spoiler: It wasn't America, sorry Cass beat you here).

In fact, he hadn't really had much of a goal in mind until -

Of course you would find the one ghoul on the island who is stripping out in the open.

Your luck is fantastic.

But it had been motivation for him to run back to the base and then back to the shore with a tank to maybe have an excuse to be company. Because one eccentric mind definitely called for being with another one.

"Brave to be out here in th'mornin'." Solomon commented as he dropped the tank in the sand and began to pull his shirt off, throwing it in the sand along with his boots and..well, that was about all that was coming off, frankly. Pants were invincible, they could handle being wet.

"Yep! But it's the best time for fishing, so I reckon that'll apply to fishing up rocks and such." America shot him a finger gun and grabbed her air tank, strapping it on firmly. "Guess you thought the same, though, huh? Best way to start the day is with a good kill...or rock." She frowned a bit, uncertain about how awesome rocks were.

They'll keep your jacking phone charged for one.

Right, rocks were great. "But maybe if we're lucky, something will come and attack us, right?" She took a moment to pose heroically in front of the water before starting to wade in, "s**t! That's ******** brisk. If I wasn't aware before, I sure as hell am now!"

Ghoul, I won't tell you twice, but you best make this quick.

The weapon's unease brought a smile to America's face, "Somebody doesn't like water much, does he?"

Ghoul. You stop your nonsense and get this done.

As firey as her hair, that one. Solomon chuckled as he too strapped on the air tank - he mostly only knew what he was doing from his jaunt into stunt work, after all. "Can't say I know much about fishing, just can't sleep all that well." he shrugged, looking into the dark water for a moment before he pulled his visor off and tossed it into the pile of clothing he'd made.

Congrats, America, you were now the second person to see his face without it.

"Maybe! Not as nice as that giant thing that came at us a week and a half ago or so. Were you there for it? Wrecked the entire town." he'd not seen America before the division meetings (and it was hard to forget that name), so it was possible she was newer than even he was.

That water doesn't seem all that nice, man.

What are you talking about? It seems fun

Or something.

Solomon glanced over to America as she spoke up, brows lifting. "Hm?" he wasn't aware she was speaking to her head-partner (much like he'd had to talk out loud for a while) as he was wading in, toes curling just a bit from how much the cold stung from such an early escapade into the water. Yikes.

"Wakes you up better than coffee, fersure!"

Making a disgusted sound, she replied, "Naw, just missed that sucker. Heard it was a real party, though!" And with that she put the mouth piece in and dived down into what she thought was the sea, but what turned out to be a gaping maw, filled with row upon row of teeth. <******** style="color: ********: 40

He laughed before he put in his own mouthpiece to submerge.

Unlike some people, however, Solomon apparently didn't look delicious. Maybe the sea monsters just liked to eat petite young ladies instead of stringy guys like him.

Or it was just distracted by eating exhibit A.

Aren was rolling with laughter in his head either way, though.

<********> Normally America was pretty gung-ho when it came to amusement vs personal safety, but she couldn't even see the rest of the thing's body. It was all mouth, and it says something about your enemy when it's too damn big to even look in the eye.

It says, Come back later. Bring a nuke. Flipping the thing off, she tried to swim out of it's mouth before it swallowed her whole.

Some of the caves house many useful stones, other house things waiting to kill you. You can keep on collecting for as long as your willing to risk it (or until you die.)

Roll 1d6
1: A few stones! Roll 1d4 to see how many you find in this cave!
2: Sentient sea weed aggressively gropes you! Roll 1d4 to see how much damage it does!

4: Tentacles! Roll 1d8 to see how much damage they do!

6: Mermaids! You encounter a group of mermaids with grey skin, hungry smiles, and glowing blue eyes.
Group HP: 777
Auto-damage: 5 (once they are under 100 hp, the blood in the water causes them to enter a frenzy, increasing auto damage to 10)
Escape: Roll 1d20, if 10+ you escape, failure results in auto-damage.
Upon Defeat: this area becomes permanently mob free and reveals a large cache of stones, roll 1d20 to see how many you find in this cave!

Solomon had at least waited to see how things turned out on the Miss America v Mouth Monster front before he'd continued on, giving her a thumbs up once it seemed she hadn't been eaten before swimming down further.

He could see a few little caves down there and Solomon, without much caution whatsoever, shoved his hand into one of them. Because that was perfectly safe.

His hand didn't get chewed off, fortunately (Aren seemed disappointed by this), and instead he had 4 runestones to show for it!

Score!

Heart thumping at the encounter, America returned the thumbs-up with two enthusiastic ones of her own. The great thing about near-death experiences was surviving them. Nothing beat it, except maybe coming back bigger and badder to get your revenge. Swimming down further, she entered the nearest cave.

And oooooh, this one looked like it had a nice bunch of rocks. America's eyes glinted with greed and she gathered as many as she could pry out.

And the best part of being spectator to near death experiences was you weren't the one getting eaten. Hey, she seemed to be pretty chipper about the whole mess anyways!

The bad part of being smug about not having a near death experience was that you got mobbed by a whole ******** of mermaid who were trying to eat your flesh oh dear ******** ******** ******** style="color: goldenrod">PUNCH 'EM!

This really sucked.

Fortunately a swift jerk of his arm back and a shove of one of his offenders back into the cave was all that was needed before he rolled his eyes and glanced over to see if America was doing better than he was (she already was, but still.)
