Ailean looked around, still dazed and sore, and honestly not sure just how bruised he really was. He looked over the children with a critical eye, but they appeared relatively unharmed. Ailean could hardly believe they were real. Their existence made him incredibly joyful and caused his heard to ache terribly all at the same time. Their markings and colorings were so similar to his; it was pretty obvious that he was their father. Why would Callisto not tell him? Why had she vanished for so long, leaving him to wait night after night in the place they had frequented. And why after all this time, had she returned, children in tow?

He shook his head. Better to put those thoughts aside and deal with that problem later. For now, it was much more pressing to figure out where they were, what had happened, and where their mother had landed.

They had worked their way through the sand to the wide body of salt water, but Ailean was not sure how to search effectively for their mother without letting the children dive out of his sight to look. He waded into the water and began to swim around slowly, hoping that if she were near, she would be able to see his hooves, and that hooves in the water would give her cause to see who they belonged to.
