Caterpie's Forest Beginner Rank, Levels 1 - 10 Home to Bug and Grass Types Just west of Armonia lies a small but flourishing forest. In the sun, it glimmers with colors; red, yellow, blue, and multitudes of green. Though it's labeled as a dungeon, if only for the mysterious moss covered stairs that appear to lead explorers deeper into sun-flooded groves, most Armonians don't think of Caterpie's Forest as particularly dangerous. Guild leaders send their new recruits here for practice. While most of the wild Pokemon who have taken up residence in the forest are peaceful, the Bug types can be quite territorial...

It wasn't too long before Freunde was at it again. She hadn't done as well as she hoped she would the last time she went into Caterpie Forest, and she planned on fixing that this time around. Giving herself a shake to get into the right frame of mind, the Nidorina made her way into the forest. She had to admit she felt a bit better going in this time, now that she had that first encounter under her belt. She hoped to find the Butterfree again to give it a rematch. The Sleep Powder wouldn't catch her off guard this time, she was sure of it!
Marching in, she paused once the main road was out of sight to adjust her bows. She didn't want to lose them during her trek, after all. Once she was positive they were secured, she headed further into the forest, where the trees became thick.
Freunde wasn't too surprised when nothing appeared in front of her. The forest was a calm place, after all. She wasn't expecting Pokemon to be jumping out at her at every turn, nor interesting things on the ground to pick up. She did, however, know the forest was home to some beautiful flowers, and she stopped to enjoy them while she rested. She wanted to be in tip-top shape in case she came across any potential targets.
Being a rescuer was hard work, and she needed to keep her fighting skills up if she wanted to help other Pokemon out. Freunde knew training was important: what you put in is what you'd get out.

Caterpie
As Freunde started off again, she stumbled across one of the Pokemon that the forest was named for. She sized up the bug Pokemon - they were small, but they could really pack a punch if they were threatened - before deciding to fight. The Caterpie heard her Growl and froze for a moment, its little antenna waving about. Without warning it sprayed out a good amount of String at her, but Freunde dodged and moved in for the attack. A quick Scratch and the but Pokemon fled, crawling away to the safety of a tree.
With a triumphant laugh, Freunde grinned and watched the Caterpie crawl to safety up in the trees. She took the victory with a smile and a little tug on her bow for good luck. Confidence high, she set her sights further down the road. Maybe now, if she ran into that Butterfree, she'd be able to hold her own. That thought in mind, she set off for the more dense part of the forest, hoping to run into more Pokemon to fight.
As Freunde pushed her way through the undergrowth, she caught the enticing smell of a Berry. Sniffing her way off her path, she found the Oren Berry hidden under a small tree that was just barely starting to grow. She plucked it from the ground and gave a little hum. It was in pretty good condition! She decided to hang on to it, knowing that Berries were highly prized by Pokemon back in the town.

Combee
No sooner had she tucked the berry away for safe keeping, a familiar sound met the Nidorina's ears. She turned and focused in on the buzzing: a Combee! Not the same one from the other day, though. It would have still had the claw marks from her scratch. This one was going about its business as normal, and she wondered if she should risk attacking it just for the experience. The Pokemon didn't even seem to notice her, though, and she sighed as it flew away. Ah well...better to save her strength for another Pokemon.
Shaking out her ribbons, Freunde continued on through the forest. The trees were growing so thick and close together that the sun was being blotted out pretty well. Freunde paused from time to time to gaze up through the leaves to try to gauge her direction and the time of day. The good thing about the forest was the sun: in actual caves and dungeons the time could slip away from you so quickly without even realizing it.
Having a bit of trouble finding the direction the sun was moving in, Freunde grabbed a stick nearby and stuck it in the ground. She waited for a bit, indulging in the stream nearby for a drink, and when she returned she made note of the shadow of the stick, how far it had gone and in what direction. That done, she plucked the stick from the ground to hang on to it. She could use it later if she got turned around again.
Freunde came to a clearing not long after finding her way, and she paused to enjoy the sun. As she shifted to lay on her back she almost rolled right onto a plump Cheri Berry. Picking it up, she examined it for flaws before deciding it was good enough to take home. She brushed off a bit of dirt before putting it in the tiny pouch she had with the Oren Berry. Now they could keep one another company during the rest of her journey.
Freunde almost laughed as she tripped over a stick that she hadn't seen. Almost being the key word. Instead, she rolled her eyes at her own clumsiness and shifted around to look at the thing. Tilting her head, she picked it up. It was larger than she thought, and very sturdy, and very straight. Perhaps it had been a board at one point, holding up a house? Deciding to take it with her, she tucked it under her arm for safe keeping before moving on.

Butterfree, +20 EXP
A bit more walking and suddenly, out of nowhere, the Butterfree from the other day showed its face. Freunde was surprised at the sudden appearance, once again, but this time she was ready. Dropping her treasures, she planted her feet on the ground and face the enemy head on. She snorted quietly, a little cloud of dust kicking up around her feet, and she let out a Growl to warn the Butterfree she wasn't going to take it easy on it this time. The Butterfree shivered its wings, ready to use Sleep Powder again, but Freunde was ready this time. She darted forward, claws outstretch, and Scratched it. The Butterfree wasn't used to the attack, and fell to the ground. Another Scratch and the Pokemon flew away weakly. Freunde snorted and stamped her foot in approval, a victorious look on her face. Ha! She'd won!
The victory went to Freunde's head. She made a few victory laps around her sticks and berries, grinning fit to burst. She'd done it! That pesky Butterfree had gotten a piece of her mind! Satisfied that she'd conquered this forest this time around, she picked up her things and started for the exit. There wasn't much left to do here now, she figured.

Butterfree, +20 EXP
No sooner had she picked up her things than a furious flapping noise came from the trees. Freunde dropped her things again and turned to face another Butterfree, obviously upset about the injured one that just flew in that direction. Perhaps it was the mate of the Butterfree, or the mother or father. Unsure of what to expect but ready to fight, Freunde Growled low in her throat, claws digging in to the soil. She wasn't going down this time, either!
Charging, she met the Butterfree head on, and brought it to the ground with her claws. Scratching over and over, she let out a triumphant Growl as the Pokemon rolled and flew away, heading back to the trees as well. "Ha!" she shouted, unable to contain herself. That's what they got for picking a fight with her!
