Caterpie's Forest Beginner Rank, Levels 1 - 10 Home to Bug and Grass Types Just west of Armonia lies a small but flourishing forest. In the sun, it glimmers with colors; red, yellow, blue, and multitudes of green. Though it's labeled as a dungeon, if only for the mysterious moss covered stairs that appear to lead explorers deeper into sun-flooded groves, most Armonians don't think of Caterpie's Forest as particularly dangerous. Guild leaders send their new recruits here for practice. While most of the wild Pokemon who have taken up residence in the forest are peaceful, the Bug types can be quite territorial...

Freunde stretched as she headed into the forest. This would be a walk in the park for her, she was sure, but it never hurt to go back to the basics for a refresher course. She had been focused on helping other Pokemon out lately, and she'd neglected her own training as a result. She really needed to polish up her moves and explore a bit, to try to find that all-important Moon Stone that she'd need to eventually evolved. The Nidorina doubted she'd find one here, but hey. It never hurt to look!
Pushing her way through the undergrowth, Freunde paused to sniff a particularly pretty flower. It smelled very sweet and made the normally stone-faced Pokemon smile just a bit. It really was nice to stop and relax every now and then. Shaking her head, she pressed further into the forest to see what she could find.
Freunde sighed quietly as her first pass proved to be pointless. There wasn't even a dust mote to be found, let alone an item of interest or a Pokemon to scuffle with. She gave a little sniff and pushed at a leaf, disinterested for a moment. It was hard to hone your skills when there was nothing to hone them on! Shaking her head, she pressed on, moving around a large tree. Maybe there'd be something there for her to find.

Butterfree, +20 EXP
The Nidorina was surprised when she came around a second tree to come face to face with a Butterfree. The Pokemon was obviously not amused by Freunde's sudden appearance, and before she could apologize, she found herself under attack. It was such a surprise that she didn't have time to get her defenses up and, after a confusing moment, she found herself drifting off to sleep. Sleep Powder...of course...zzzzz...
Freunde awoke a while later, grumbling about Pokemon and manners. It wasn't as if she'd stumbled across the Pokemon on purpose, after all. She had been looking for a bit of a fight, but she had hoped she'd sneak up on her target a bit better than that. Oh well...there was always next time. Shaking the last of the powder from her ribbons, she set off again to try her luck at another area of the forest.
It wasn't much of a surprise when more walking found nothing but flowers and grass. This area of the forest was pretty empty, except for that Butterfree. Glancing up at the sky, Freunde determined she hadn't been asleep for too long. The sun hadn't moved enough for her to notice, so her nap had probably been only five or ten minutes. Just enough to keep her refreshed and ready to go.
This time her searching led Freunde to a little pile of leaves. It smelled much better than leaves, though, and she rooted through the pile with her nose and paws to locate the scent. When she made her discovery she grinned: a Cheri berry! She didn't have a particular favorite berry, but these were pretty popular with other Pokemon. Not wanting to leave anything behind, she picked it up and tucked it into a tiny pouch she had brought with her for such an occasion.
Freunde pressed on, keeping a sharp eye out for any Butterfrees or anything else that might show up. She didn't want to be caught off guard again. Licking her lips as she went, something caught her eye as she looked around. It wasn't a Pokemon, but an odd stick that looked sturdy. Some sticks were broken or rotten, but this one looked nice enough to hold on to. Picking it up, she decided she'd bring it along, just in case.
The stick and the berry were good finds, she reasoned with herself as she happened upon another empty part of the forest. Freunde paused by a stream to take a quick drink, careful not to get her prizes wet, nor her bow around her neck. A quick rest and she was off again. Even though she hadn't come across many Pokemon, she was certainly getting her exercise walking around the forest. Deciding to pick up the pace a bit, she began to jog rather than walk to her next destination.

Combee
Jogging was fun, but it brought her to the next part of the forest quicker, and once again she stumbled across a Pokemon. This Combee didn't appear as agitated as the Butterfree, but it certainly wasn't a happy camper. Freunde hit the brakes before she ran into it, saving herself the possibility of running right into another Sleep Powder situation. Ready to fight, she lowered her head and gave a little warning Growl, but the Combee wasn't willing to stick around for too long. A quick Gust and Freunde was head over tail, tumbling away as the insect Pokemon made its escape.
Freunde grumbled as she picked herself up, the distant buzzing of the Combee haunting her. She was really off her game to have lost to such an easy battle! Annoyed at herself, she picked up her precious treasures and continued on. If she ran into another Pokemon she was sure she'd get the better of them.
Freunde, still in a bad mood from losing to another Pokemon, grabbed another stick she found to drag it through the dirt behind her while she walked. She glanced over her shoulder and watched the little trail she made, smiling just a bit as she made little designs. Well...this wasn't a total failure of a trip, she supposed. These sticks were nice...someone would want them, she was sure. And if not, she could always make something out of them.
Two sticks and one berry in hand, Freunde continued her push through the forest. It was starting to get dark, though, and she frowned up at the sun as she found her way back to the path that had lead her in. She could get out in just a few minutes now, so she stopped to enjoy the beginning of the sunset. The way the light made the colors of the flowers and plants turn rich around her made her appreciate the beauty of the place she was in. After a while, she got to her feet again and started to walk. She'd be out of the forest soon.
